This song and her voice bring me to tears. You must listen to her version of “Many Rivers To Cross” from the movie Jason’s Lyric and she also does amazing on a song called “Woman In Chains” with the group Tears for Fears

The original version of the song is by Brenda Russell.

Original by Russell is good-but not even close to the perfection by Adams, she owns this song.

Yup…pretty much from jump,RIGHT!?!? Lol 🙌🏾🔥 Have always loved that TONE of her's. However, in my opinion I think it's unfortunate that she's ONE of the most extremely underrated vocalists on the planet. #DeservesWayMoreCredit💙

A super fantastic reaction 😁! Get Here was released as the lead single from Oleta (pronounced O-Lee-Taa) Adam's 1990 album: Circle Of One. It was written by Brenda Russell. It was produced by Roland Orzabal and David Bascombe. The song reached #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #5 on the Hot 100 and #8 on the R&B chart. The music video was directed by Greg Gold. This live performance is from the Dutch music television show: Countdown. She dedicated the song to Frank who was most likely the director of the television show she was appearing on. She's still around performing live and lives in Shawnee, Kansas with her husband.
Oleta Adams was visiting Stockholm, Sweden that she heard Brenda Russell's song playing in a record store and was sufficiently impressed with the song to record it for her album. World events at this time gave the song a resonance as an anthem for the US troops in the Gulf War-underscored by the lyrics "You can reach me by caravan / Cross the desert like an Arab man".
    Critical Reception 🗣:
AllMusic editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the song as a "gospel-tinged belter".
Larry Flick from Billboard remarked that "delicate instrumental arrangement contrasts with Adams' powerful reading of a lovely Brenda Russell composition".
The Commercial Appeal named it a "standout" track from the album, declaring it as "magnificent".
A reviewer from The Daily Telegraph said it is "the Single of the week, the year, the decade..."
Ellen Fagg from The Deseret News wrote that it's a "stunning love song-cum-transportation commercial". She noted that the lyrics "are creative and witty and plaintively passionate, a difficult triple combination to score. But the words are great because they're underlined by the rich power of Adams' big voice".
James Bernard from Entertainment Weekly viewed it as "an unrushed call to her lover" and noted that the singer's voice "can soar with intensity, hanging onto notes for dear life, or suddenly drop into hushed intimacy".
David Quantick from NME wrote, "Oleta is a total groover. This is a huge soft ballad that sounds lots better than Mariah Carey and her lacewanky ilk".
Stephen Holden from New York Times declared it as a "ballad of separation and longing",[14] while Philadelphia Daily News noted it as "that come-home-safe song widely connected to our troops in the gulf war".
Nick Duerden from Record Mirror wrote, "With few singers capable of matching her eloquent tones (Anita Baker excepted), 'Get Here', a wondrous three-minute love affair with the senses, is destined to scale deserving heights".
You can reach me by railway, you can reach me by trailway
You can reach me on an airplane, you can reach me with your mind
You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man
I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can
You can reach me by sailboat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope
Take a sled and slide down the slope, into these arms of mine
You can jump on a speedy colt, cross the border in a blaze of hope
I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can
There are hills and mountains between us
    Always something to get over
If I had my way, surely you would be closer
    I need you closer
There are hills and mountains between us
    Always something to get over
If I had my way, surely you would be closer
    I need you closer
You can windsurf into my life, take me up on a carpet ride
You can make it in a big balloon, but you better make it soon
You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man
I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can
    I don't care, I don't care
I need you right here right now
I need you right here right now right by my side yeah yeah
    Get here
I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can
    Oleta Adams Info 📰:
Oleta Adams was born on May 4, 1953 in Seattle, Washington. She a singer, pianist, producer and songwriter. Oleta Adams was raised listening to Gospel music. In her youth, her family moved to Yakima, Washington, which is sometimes shown as her place of birth. She got her musical start in the church. She has performed her music live on many television shows including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, Soul Train, Top Of The Pops, ZDF-Fernsehgarten, The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson, Ebony/Jet Showcase, London Underground, Behind The Beat, Caramba!, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Chevy Chase Show and more.
Before gaining her opportunity to perform, Oleta Adams faced a great deal of rejection. In the 1970s, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she recorded a demo tape. However, many music executives were exclusively interested in Disco music rather than Oleta Adams' preferred style. With the advice of her singing coach, Lee Farrell, Oleta Adams moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she did a variety of local gigs. She started her career in the early 1980s with two self-financed albums, which had limited success.
In 1985, Oleta Adams was discovered by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, founders of the English band Tears For Fears, while she was performing in the Peppercorn Duck Club at the Hyatt Hotel in Kansas City, while they were on a US tour. Soon after, Oleta Adams stopped performing in hotels and had started to look for alternative employment. In 1987, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith contacted her to invite her to join their band as a singer and pianist on their next album: The Seeds Of Love (1989). She eventually found success and fame via her contributions to Tears For Fears' international chart-topping album: The Seeds Of Love (1989).
In 1989, the Tears For Fear album was released and the single: "Woman In Chains", sung as a duet by Oleta Adams and Roland Orzabal and with Phil Collins on drums, became her first hit song Oleta Adams embarked on a world tour with Tears For Fears in 1990, performing by herself as the supporting artist at the start of each show, and remaining onstage throughout the Tears For Fears set where she would provide piano and vocals.
Following her work with Tears For Fears, Oleta Adams was offered a recording contract by their record label, Fontana Records, and restarted her solo career in 1990. Her albums: Circle Of One (1991) and Evolution (1993) were top 10 hits in the UK with the former yielded a Grammy-nominated cover of Brenda Russell's song: "Get Here", which was a top 5 hit in both the UK and the US. Oleta Adams has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, as well as two Soul Train Music Awards.
1991 also saw Oleta Adams sign to independent music publisher Fairwood Music, and contribute to the Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album: Two Rooms, on which appeared her version of Elton John's 1974 hit song: "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". Oleta Adams' version became another top 40 hit in the UK.
Her next album: Evolution (1993), was also a commercial success, making the UK top 10. It also featured her self-penned adult contemporary single: "Window Of Hope". Her 1995 album release: Moving On, saw Oleta Adams move more in the direction of R&B, and she also reunited with Roland Orzabal for the duet: "Me And My Big Ideas", on the Tears For Fears album: Raoul And The Kings Of Spain, the same year. Two years later, she released the Christian themed album: Come Walk With Me, where she received a nomination for a Grammy Award for her song: "Holy Is The Lamb", in 1997.
In 1998, she toured as a guest vocalist on Phil Collins' Big Band Jazz Tour.
In 2001, Oleta Adams released her sixth album: All The Love, a return to an R&B/Adult contemporary sound. The album was re-released in 2004 in Germany with a different title: I Can't Live A Day Without You.
In 2004, Oleta Adams reunited with Tears For Fears once again as she made a surprise guest appearance onstage at their Kansas City concert, performing the song: "Woman In Chains".
On October 3, 2006, Oleta Adams released her first Christmas album entitled: Christmas Time With Oleta.
On April 21, 2009, Oleta Adams released her eighth album entitled: Let's Stay Here.
