These sensational tyres have proved magnificent in All seasons - offering great performance in the Alps in winter, in a wet english summer and anywhere in between.

Couldn’t agree more. Fitted these to my T5 in autumn 2018 and they’ve got me through mud, snow and sand as well as miles of tarmac. They’re wearing very well, surprisingly low road noise and good on-road handling. I wouldn’t fit anything else now.

i've had these exact tires on my nissan nv-200 work vehicle for a little over a year now. they are very good tires. so much better than the garbage continentals that came on the vehicle.

Great video - it covers exactly my situation - ie just bought a new T6 California Beach and have only covered about 2k so far due to lockdown. It came with Cascavel 7J x 17
215/60 R17 C109/107T low rolling resistance tyres which might be good for fuel economy (35mpg so far) but are very hard and as a consequence a bit bouncy. I’m planning to visit relatives in Europe from around October so will need at least all season tyres. The tip regarding snow chains is very useful as I plan to buy these just in case.
So being a total novice when it comes to reading tyre data what tyre size so you think I need to replace the current Continentals having in mind I obviously need to maintain the same rolling diameter but otherwise speced to suit snow chains. Also any recommendations on snow chains. Thanks Ray
Hi Ray, thanks so much for watching and your comments. I am sure you will love your Beach, we are very pleased with ours. My original 17” tyres were 235/55 r17’s it was only when I was researching snow chains that I discovered there were very few viable options that gave little if any clearance to run with this size tyre, the only chain options that I found were very expensive. It was almost more cost effective to downsize the tyres to a full set of the narrower 215/60 r17 C (for commercial) Michelin Agilis Cross climate. I made some money back by selling the original tyres as part worn. The Michelin’s have been great so far, showing little sign of wear after 6000 miles, performed well in the Alps in February ( we never used the chains) and I do like the chunkier look. So far so good !

Fitted Michelin CC2s and they’re a vast improvement over the dodgy budget brand tyres the van came with from the conversion company, we’ve got michelin composite snow chains which get round the clearance issue.

@@CampervanJourney Didn’t get to use them as roads were clear whilst we were in the Jura. They’re a compromise between a snow sock and a snow chain, Michelin Easy Grip Evolution, legal in France but not other parts of Europe.
Hi, Nice wheels and tyres set-up. Something between swamper and sport which is a good look as well as functional all year round. I think you said they were 17" but what brand and name are the wheels and approximate cost please? Did you purchase them in the uk?
Hi Rob, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The wheels are by Dezent and I ordered them online, at the time the best price was from oponeo. I wanted load rated 17’s that looked good but would also not be too wide to accommodate snow chains in the wheel arches. Being Matt black they also don’t show the brake dust ! Thanks! Absolutely, the tyres are performing very well and importantly wearing well. We have done 20,000 miles on them and they have only worn by approx 2mm ! Cheers JT
Really useful video as I have a T5 and I've been looking at tyres that I can use all year round.
I live at the top of quite a steep hill which is often icey in winter.
How are you finding in snow/ice.?

Thank you David ! We have now done 20,000 miles on them and they have been great. We have only driven on snow in the Alps and they performed faultlessly, no need for chains. As we are in the south of England we don't get much snow but on icy roads again they have performed well. If conditions allow, I will do a video for snow and ice ! Hey, great video! I'm really interested if you could tell me more about the direct comparison between Continental 235/55/17 and Michelin 215/60/17, since you have experience with both. I want to buy a new set for my camper and am still not sure which way to go. What is your experience with comfort and fuel consumption after the switch to Michelins? Michelin is narrower so, in theory, should have a better millage, which is important to me, but don't want to sacrifice too much of ride comfort. What tire pressure do you have/had in either tire? Also, Michelin seems to be really good also for some occasional offroad drive, but how did Coninentals perform when driving on grass/mud/gravel? Thanks!
Hi Jan, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The main reason for us switching to the narrower 215 profile was to be able to accomodate snow chains in case we needed to fit them whilst in the Alps. The 235/55 17's are too wide to do this according to the VW handbook. The agilis have now done around 20,000 miles and have barely worn still on 6mm tread !. They are slightly noisier given their chunky tread design, but we regularly get 35-37 MPG on a motorway run. At 50-60 mph we can crack 40 MPG. They run at quite high pressure around 50 psi. They are very good in wet weather and standing water. Their grip on wet grass is not quite as good as a full on chunky tread off road tyre like the BF Goodrich, but they have far superior on road performance and all round characteristics. Thank you for your answer. 40 MPG sounds really amazing, even 35 sounds good to me. I only manage to do about 31-32, driving like a granny... It's true that both of my current tire sets (winter Nexen and summer Falken) are wider 235/55/17, have high rolling resistance, and only C eco-rating.
great review but what size tyre did you get? where and roughly how much please. The Cali I have ordered is on 17" rims.
Peter Waugh thank you ! And thanks for watching. The tyre size we opted for was 215/60 r17 we needed space for snow chains so went a size smaller than the default 235/55 r17. If buying again and snow chains are not an issue would you go for these tyres but the 235 size? Reckon much difference to handling and ride quality going smaller width?
Hi Rob, thanks for watching and getting in touch. If I didn’t need to accommodate snow chains I would have had no hesitation going for 235 width. The tyres have been great, excellent for grip and wear. I would imagine difference in ride quality between widths would be negligible. Despite the chunkier tread, noise levels are absolutely fine. Hi Nick, thanks for watching and making contact. The exact tyre size I went for is 215/60 r17 C. I went for a slightly narrower size than the 235/55's I had on before to provide enough space for snow chains in the event we needed to fit them in the Alps in winter. Well spotted. We have covered almost 40,000 miles on them so far and they have been a superb all rounder. Fuel economy is good, wet road performance is exceptional and they performed well in the Alps on icy roads. I would definitely buy again. Only slight downside is their wet grass / mud grip is not as good as a full All terrain tyre, but one of those would not give you the same economy, noise level or braking performance. My snow chains are buy a German company called Konig, again bought online. We did not need to use the snow chains but you have to have them just in case if you are travelling in some parts of Europe in the winter.

Their is a steep hill that cars and vans get stuck on and I drive past them with hardly an issue. I'd recommend them to be standard on all cars as you don't need two separate sets of tyres. I'm looking to fit them to my car I'm so impressed

Snow chains are not compulsory except for certain access roads, the three peaks mark are all you need, if you are doing limited mileage the Michelins have a habit of side wall cracking over time so will need replacing before the tread has gone
Lee Allford Thanks for watching and your feedback. It was our first time to the Alps in Winter earlier this year and knew that SOME access roads required chains but not all. We did not need to use them but did not want to get fined if we were stopped and did not have any on board, or of course if the snow got really bad and we needed them to get out ! In reality the tyres performed faultlessly in the winter alpine conditions. Our van is our main family vehicle so used regularly. Campervan Journey it sounds as though you do a lot of mileage in the van, if not however then Michelin’s have an issue of side wall cracking before you use all the tread so not the best long term option

Had cross climate on old car , but not tried In mud , not going off roading as such just in fields at horse riding events
Great video - very informative - any idea of the impact on MPG ?
Thanks Conrad, we get around 37mpg on a steady Motorway 70mph run, pretty good I think ! I believe the harder commercial biased compound helps with this, ‘car’ orientated tyres run a bit softer sidewalls and therefore a bit higher rolling resistance..and maybe less efficient.
After nearly 2 years on them I can see no effect on fuel consumption over ‘standard’ tyres.

Hello. Could you please comment on road/highway noise? (Perhaps you did, and I missed it.) We take road trips here in New England cruising between 115 and 125 KPH. Just wondered how the highway noise level is?

I have found that the road noise from these tyres at a cruising speed of around 70-75mph is absolutely fine, they not that much noise than the regular tyres we had fitted previously. They have served us well in muddy conditions. Not as good as a full off road tyre, but a great all rounder. They have also lasted very well, 39000 miles so far ! Recommended. Thanks for watching - cheers JT
