Hi Ray, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. We have found the positives of moving to a larger van more than outweigh the negatives so far... I asked the question about FWD vs RWD when we were buying ours, I did not realise that MB made the chassis as FWD, RWD and 4WD. Having had FWD vehicles all my life (bar a Boxster) I had a preference for FWD as I feel it gives better traction in Snow and Muddy conditions if you have not got 4WD. I couldn't justify the financial stretch to go for the 4WD Grand Canyon's, the weight was also a consideration. The FWD drives well, performance and traction is generally good. I have been pleasantly surprised by the fuel economy. 35mpg is achievable on a steady motorway run. The van has some Continental Vancontact Camper All season tyres which seem to be a good all round choice, although I was pondering something a bit more chunky, although not full on All Terrain tyres as we did have one occasion in the summer where traction was difficult on wet / muddy / sodden pitch in the Alsace. I don't think that was an issue of the van, more the conditions. I'd love to hear how you get on, please feel free to stay in touch. Thank you ! The Campsite is around 3 miles from the centre of Saumur. Part of the trip on a bike is on rural lanes, as you get closer there is a good network of cycle paths / lanes leading into the centre of Saumur. It's a nice ride and the city of Saumur, in fact the whole Loire Valley is very well suited to cycling.

Hi Simon, How exciting ! Yes, ours has the smart battery pack, but currently we have not had an inverter fitted. We have managed fine with 12v setup. Our Solar panel is pretty big and so far we have only been on EHU twice six months. I have a portable powerpack I could take with me if need be. Not sure if our needs require an inverter at the moment....

Price, 4x4 would have been great, but it strecthed our budget just a bit too far...

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. I didn't notice a significant compromise in ride quality, although the sidewalls are definitley stiffer. They were exceptionally durable having covered 40,000 + Miles with limited wear. We didnt drive on terrain much rougher than unmade tracks / bridleways and on those they were absolutely fine. We have now sold the Cali, but I would definitley consider putting these on our new van.

What I needed is adblue. Awesome explanation 5 stars!! 🤩

Hi ! Thanks for getting in touch. We have now sold our Cali Beach and moved on to a bigger van. Videos of our new van are on the channel. The Beach did not have an onboard water tank, unlike the Ocean which does. Cheers JT

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with your detailed comment. All of the things you listed were issues that we came across when we rented a GC600. We were just about to order one, and I am very glad that we rented one first and discovered the niggles / issues that would have been a problem for us if we ended up buying. We spent a long time trying to find the right van to replace our California Beach, and have learnt along the way that we were going to have to compromise, but spending the money on renting one, clarified many things and also saved us from making what could have been an expensive mistake for our requirements. Hi There ! Thanks for watching and getting in touch. Spoiler alert, you may never find the perfect van... You may however find a van that is 90% right and have a lot of fun making it the perfect van in time. I'd make a shortlist of the must haves of equipment / features and then buy something based on condition and history. Something that has been looked after will stand you in good stead in the long term and you can buy lots of accessories / add ons over time to personalise it and make it the perfect van in time. Its all part of the fun ! Either way it will open up a world of adventures and you'll visit some amazing places ... Hi ! On arrival at a France Passion site one of their Golden rules they request you follow is that you introduce yourself and show your membership. We were able to do that at all of the stopovers we visited this summer. Although I imagine depending on your arrival time farmers may be busy with their daily routine. Whilst we were there a routine police patrol travelled past. There was a nice atmosphere, with lots of vans from different backgrounds and countries there. I think lots of people were visiting the stones for the day in their Moho / Camper and staying overnight as other options would be a campsite not tha many in the local area, or a carpark in nearby Amesbury / Salisbury. Fingeers crossed it stays as is for the forseeable future... thanks for watching JT

It's a Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT). English Heritage tried to get it stopped up but groups such as the Trail Riders Fellowship fought and won the case. So everyone has a right to use it without hinderance.

@@blacktiger955i Thank you for confirming that. It is a special place and deserves its status of being open to all. There will always be a minority who disrespect a location, but the vast majority don't and the more people have an awareness of a location, I believe the easier it is to ask for their support to look after it in the long term...

Well it’s not the council who control the airspace it’s the civil aviation authority and all that area is coved from ground level either in the exclusion zone around the stones or because of the military training area that frequently has low flying aircraft and helicopters which drones are a hazard too and that’s why they restrict access

Hi Scott. The weight is always at the back of your mind. Ours comes in at under 3100 kg before we load up. So we had enough headroom for the stuff we were going to carry. At some point I will go to a weigh bridge loaded with all our kit to get the exact figure...cheers JT
