- Rail service along the San Francisco Peninsula began when Abraham Lincoln was president. Under the leadership of various organizations, including Southern Pacific and CalTrans, this historic train line has persevered. Now, Caltrain serves some of the most innovative train riders in the world as it winds its way from San Jose, through Silicon Valley to San Francisco. Join us as we explore one of the World's Greatest: Caltrain.

Even tho I have never rode caltrain, I do love driving it in Train Sim World
Lol me to
When I was in San Francisco on vacation in 2016, we actually rode the Caltrain from the city to San Jose. It was really fun getting on the train and going for a long ride. We actually made it a day out of it looking somewhere outside of San Francisco.
Caltrain has the greatest Northern California Railroad Leadership when it comes to helping out on broken down trains like helping out the Coast Starlight in 2004
A long history still in the making. Thus explaining why it's one of the greatest.
I guess it's the "world's greatest" because this is the single greatest metropolitan region in the world.
I agree, I love caltrain! Not for commuting, just to ride it for fun. My mom took me and my sister one time and ever since iv'e been riding it my entire life.
I agree. I've ridden it a countless number of times. It's especially fun to ride the train down to Santa Clara and spend the day there. :)
Thanks

"High speed" rail and the imbecilic blended system will be a disaster for this corridor. The Peninsula needs to demand the system that was originally promised.
I agree. They call CalTrain the worlds greatest train but they’re getting rid of the diesels and the bombardier cars
@@rebooted.jupiter_ Can't speak to the rolling stock, though diesels are not good for headway and capacity. Caltrain needed to go electric and there's no way around it.
The "blended system" refers to the tracks. The SF peninsula (San Jose to San Fran) was promised 4 tracks, 2 each way, with all roads separated (tunnels or bridges). Then they realized they don't have enough money.
They reneged and want to keep the existing tracks. Caltrains will have to wait at sidings to let high speed trains pass, and cars still have to wait at crossings despite much more frequent trains. The plan throws everyone else under the bus to benefit only the high speed trains.
Some of those were trained clips from his railfanning
Caltrain is definitely the best in the US, with connections to light rail, subway, and Amtrak. Can't wait for the extension to the Transbay Terminal to open. I use it every day and don't think I'll need a car since it gets to San Francisco and San Jose quicker than a car in California's standstill traffic.
Supernova Strike you do realize that there’s other commuter trains that connect to subways and Amtrak and other transits, and light rail honestly is terrible
I love Caltrain alot but I still think MARC is better. I'm not saying that because its my home town commuter. MARC has fast, and reliable service that usually gets good reviews! Right now MARC is the fastest commuter train in the US from what I saw and I see why. Most of the trains can top 125 on the NEC! It might change in a few years tho because of your electrification.
Thry forgotten that it exist other better trains... Europe (French, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy), China and Japan!
Would appear from watching the video that waiting time at stations could be considerably quickened if more than one door was available for passengers to enter and leave the carriages.
Bi levels are different.
However, all future trains have 2 doors
well yeah they did not de rail and the only major crashes is when idiots try to cross the rail when the trains are approaching
What is the maximum speed the trains can achieve in USA?
Depends on the line. Caltrain track speed is 79 mph. The fastest train right now in the usa is the accela express in the northeast. The highest track speed there is 150 mph.
Can you put electric motor in the F40PH-2C 920 Operation Lifesaver to make it electric? Please that locomotive took me on my first ride of my life, when I was four.
Alejandro Molina I don't think you can within a reasonable budget
920, 921, 922 are fake f40s
@@oct197. who cares they are still part of the f40 family and they are at least not SCREAMERS. the main reason of why i prefer the 2CATs or 2C's(920-922) than the standard f40's(the screamers) is because the non-screamers are more efficient with separate HEP generators, and the screamers roar so loudly when the prime mover is at 900 RPM and that will be wasting fuel leading to how inefficient screamers are than their Non-Screamer counterparts.
Im sure the F40's have had a lot of wear and tear, and it would be better and more space efficent to buy those cars from siemens. It would look a lot more modern and cleaner.
I forgot I made this comment lol
looking forward to electrification!
I'm not. I will NOT see the F40s and gallery cars rust in a scrapyard! Besides, I prefer locomotive-haulage over multiple units. EMUs will make Caltrain rather bland. And I don't see the Dumbarton Project going forward anytime soon, so the MP36s and BiLevels won't have much to do except run the trains that go to Gilroy.
Now if they instead went for electric locomotives (likely the ACS-64 like Amtrak is using) and refurbished the gallery cars, that'd be good. Besides, I'm sure Metra or any other commuter railroad hungering for power could give the old F40s a good home.
Can't wait for electrification! Those old piece of crap trains will finally be gone then.
I will miss the F40s
@@GrijzePilion Get outta here, the electric trains are the pieces of crap
Sure, if you're firmly stuck in a bygone era. Say, the 50s.
go caltrain
Why does some cal trains look like metra?
Because they have the same stock
I died laughing when they said the world's greatest
Why?
Caltrain because it’s very funny no commuter line is perfect nice try
@@caltrain don't listen to him, hes a bully
@@caltrain I love caltrain
This is a stupid comment. Don’t pay any attention to it.
In the future I will work at caltrain and drive them
JORDAN
No comment
they cant be the greatest when europe and asia all have electric trains
With the new BART coming to San Jose, I see no more need for me to use Caltrain. I suppose Gilroy etc can still use it. They need to modernize Caltrain badly.
RedLight GreenArrow they are modernizing with new cars and electification
world’s greatest: caltrain? lolwut
No, it's true.
foamer lol
they probably have greater concerns than the train horns
lol foamer
OH LOL caltrain responded
case not closed . vast no. of European systems a lot better check your facts.
Brian Kettle by country, ment USA. Besides, Cal train doesn't have as much revenue as Amtrak.
world's greatest? seriously? what are they smoking...
+chernobyl68 It is a scam for Taxpayer and riders. Make into an express subway!
garricksl I don't understand what you're trying to convey sir.
chernobyl68 p
Lol
I think BART had a plan for a line that more or less followed the Caltrain line down to Palo Alto, but they cut it after San Mateo County opted out of the organization that runs BART.
Caltrain is probably the greatest in the United States, but not the world. European high speed rail is the world's greatest.
ABSORB OUR PROPAGANDA
@@caltrain wtf
@@caltrain xD
Metrolink is better!
Acerailfan3101 F40PH that comment is from 11 Months ago and they were plenty of F59s in service
Pfffff imagine buying unreliable locomotives (emd f125)
from a European view Caltrain is not the greatest. I have travelled this system many times so I know what I'm talking about.
It says "World's Greatest" - Case closed.
Well there you go
Perfect response from Caltrain. 😆
I have ridden European trains, Australian trains and Caltrain. They’re about the same as the Australian trains but not as fast as the European ones.
Though the European ones are full of graffiti and Caltrain is tons cleaner.
I like your system! Please please PLEASE build the tunnel to the Transbay Transit Center soon!
Hahaha you mean amtrak
Worlds greatest? Talk to metra
Metra is the best!
MBTA is better
@Acerailfan3101 F40PH don't forget MARC! There always a good, reliable and fast commuter service if there isn't any maintenance work at Baltimore Penn. From what I saw MARC is the fastest commuter in the US right now!
@Acerailfan3101 F40PH I don't know but I caught one at high speed the other day!
