    It takes a lot of praise and patience to potty train a dog and sticking toys in his face just teaches him to bite !

    My 2 little girls and husband really wanted a dog. I grew up with dogs and it’s not that I didn’t want a dog but as a stay at home mom I knew it would be a third child and I would be the main care taker of it. We looked at German shepherds but then agreed on a Labrador retriever. I found one and we brought her home 2 days before Christmas 2022. The first year was a lot of work but worth it. Luna loves her crate and sleeps there throughout the day. Her favorite toy is the snuggle puppy that you got. After a year I took the heart out and now it’s just her stuffy she sleeps with and carries around with her. My daughters were 5 and 3 when we got Luna. They definitely needed instructions on how to play with Luna, and many reminders. Luna is 2 yrs old and my best friend, my shadow. I take her everywhere and won’t leave her more than 3 hrs. Luna also goes to puppy day camp once a week with her trainer and runs around with other dogs. Getting Luna has changed my life in the best way possible. I’m so happy for you all. I’m your biggest fan and adore you all. ✌️❤️🐶

    When we brought our German shepherd at 8 weeks old, I put an alarm on my phone every 4 hours even through the night to take her out to potty but brought her right back in the crate and went back to bed. I had her fully potty trained within 3 full days. Never had an accident since!

    Hang in there our Miniature Pinscher pups are now just over 3 years old. Fully crate trained! We too got the snuggle pups one for each of their crates! Not a peep! Out of either. Got them together they are bother and sister. Names Thor and Loki. When we would feed the pups we would train them to sit in their crate and feed them their food a kibble or two and praise them up and down. That made them truly love being in their crates. We do not hear a peep from them. They started to love to go in them and just sit. I will say this though as far as accidents in their crates usually when they pick up some foreign object while on a walk. Hang in there you got this. Our two little blanket dweller snuggle bugs are the best to come home with and snuggle at night with! Although min pins only get to like 12 lbs. You guys got this!!! Rocky will get more and more use to your routines. Love you guys.
    Consistency is the key to training and dogs!

      I used to have an American Bully and a Pitbull. My pit, Cisco, was VERY protective of me and my daughter! My Bully, Bo, was just a huge teddy bear! He loved everyone! Cisco, busted out my window screen & went after the electric guy, who is my ex husband 😂. He hollered at him, Cisco stopped, walked up to him & licked his hand❤. They both were fantastic dogs, my babies! One day when I was gone, someone came to my house & shot both dogs. They both were penned up. Cisco was inside my house with a doggy door to go outside in a pen and when I was gone, Bo had an outside pen with a big dog house with AC in the summer & a heater in the winter. He only stayed in the pen when I had to go to town, otherwise they both stayed inside with me and my tiny yorkie & my miniature Maltipoo. The only reason I separated them when I was gone is because Bo had separation anxiety & pooped all over my house & they tore up my pillows & trashed my house together. Anyhoo, You'll love your pit and she'll love you! ❤

    Also, I trained my own dog.. found it to be a waste of money. My neighbor hired a trainer. It was nothing I couldn’t do. The basic training they charge you for are things that you have basically already done… then they ask you to do extensive training.. I just didn’t find the expense comparable to the outcome. I did it myself and my dog is very well trained and happy. I suggest you save the money and invest it in his food, vet expenses and GROOMING, that will be a huge expense as they need constant brushing to avoid matting. (as you will surely need it). As I said, hope you did your homework on this breed, they are adorable and cuddly but just have to take on the responsibility … hang in there…I don’t see Janie hanging on for the long haul.. she just likes the “puppy phase”.

    During the day put his food and water bowls in the crate. Toss in a comfy blanket for a nest. Put him in for nap time as well as bedtime. Drop a light weight towel or small sheet on it to reinforce the coziness and block out the sun and noise. Good luck from Snuffy's mommy!

    I'm sure Rocky sees Ava and her brother as a new siblings. What a great idea to give the children a puppy, and a puppy new family. I've had a few dogs.I got my first dog at age 27. Yes, they are time consuming. For you I recommend finding a certifide animal specialist to come help you take care of Rocky once a week, so you can be free as a family to go places without him. Second, have pet insurance, and third, a water fountain bowl for dogs.

    My wife took our first Czech working breed German Sheperd to puppy training, two trips and saw it was a waste of money. We worked with him until he was around 7-8 months, then took him to a professional trainer. Once a week, we took him to training and worked with the trainer so we could learn also. He went on to protection training, my wife can take him to Lowes, Home Depot, pet store or walking around crowds of people, on a leash but full control of a 110 lb German Sheperd with voice commands.

    54 yr old here raised 4 children, 6 dogs…. There is no perfect breed dog. There will be 6 months of strict by the book training. Even firmness with the kids. You HAVE to be alpha. Diarrhea is caused by the nervousness by being in kennel. Canned pumpkin( no sugar just pure) will be your best help through this diarrhea phase. You guys got this! Kids have chores…. Feed, pick up pup toys, brushing and teaching sit and lay down commands with Rocky. Every time the pup bites a big NO or pin him down needs to be done. Same with jumping up. pin him down by the scruff with a NO. More firm and routine orientated now the more well behaved Rock will be. Also that mix breed digs holes. Make him a sandbox, put balls, hard chew toys out there ( Kong, nylabones) then he will learn that’s his digging spot in your yard and ONLY there. Remember…. You got this! 🐾❤🐾

    Shepards are great dogs. So are BMD's. If healthy longevity is in the equation, then you went the right way. Bad wording by me however, because there is no "wrong" way! Life w/a dog is much better than dogless life though. Just wish you found your way to rescue one of the so many in need. Make no mistake, you now have another child. And unlike the kids you now have, that become more independent by the day, this one is dependent on you from the 1st day to the last! Peace

    I've had dogs and I never got a trainer or a crate, and I trained my own dogs and potty training them by turning them loose when they potty somewhere they shouldn't, it only takes a couple of times to let them know where they have to go and they will do it you don't need to go to extremes on training a dog you can do it yourself if you got any common sense 😏

    I just hope you guys did your homework with this breed. Sounds like poor Dave AS USUAL, didn’t have much say, in this big of a FAMILY purchase. This is sad guys, shame on you, Janie..Dave appears resentful already, yeah he loves the dog, but he seems like he’s not on board with it all and Rocky is only going to become a bigger responsibility with this type of breed, especially when you already have the responsibility of a growing family. They are a great breed but they are going to need a HUGE amount of exercise to get their energy out. That tether in the backyard he’s on right now ?? Will be ripped right out of the ground real soon and he’ll be running down the street 😂… Janie is more of a Chihuahua type dog person 😂😂… and yeah Dave is a German Shepherd guy all the way…stick with it guys… it’s a long road but keep educating yourselves and you’ll get there! Just keep the dog’s best interests in mind!! 😊

    That much money, wait for all the foods you going to have to buy the dog as it gets bigger and the vet bill, that dog is a money pit and it needs to run free not chained up in the backyard that's cruel, let it run free or give it to somebody that will take good care of it, how would you like to be chained up, in a dog trainer are you serious already being lazy, train the dog yourself ok, that way you could train him the way you want him to be, just wait and see guys you won't keep him long

    • @Christina-cb7bb
      @Christina-cb7bb 3 месяца назад +1

      Crate training is for every puppy. Even dog trainers will tell you that. You want to leave your puppy roaming for even a half an hour in the middle and they will find somewhere to pee on. They put the puppy on a long leash so that it won't get under the fence or dig under the fence so it can use the restroom. Once it is fully potty trained, then you can get rid of the crate. IT'S A PUPPY!!! They have to get sleep too.

      We keep our dog on a chain while she’s outside. It’s 20 ft. We play frisbee and ball with her while on it. Even with the best training, dogs are dogs they will stray if they have the will. It’s better to be responsible and restrain than to have it run all over the neighborhood and scare the neighbors and possibly get hit by a car!
