Divine Right began my boardgame journey back in the day. I then used to use the fabulous map for writing RPG sessions with my schoolmates. So many memories, but I lost it in house moves over the years. Must get the replacement. Very best wishes for 2025 fellas.

1776 was the first war game I owned. It was a Christmas gift from my folks when I was 15 years old. Still a special memory.

My mother, who was a history teacher in the 1970s, bought 1776 for her class. I don't know if she ever used it much, but she gave it to me and it was my first wargame and got me into the hobby at a young age ( I still have the original copy)

I have a newer edition of GMT's The US Civil War game. The box front says: 2021 3rd edition, second printing. As for my reaction to the game:
    1. It is the greatest strategic simulation game of that war by far! It has provided a lot of fun as well as insight. And the mounted map is a work of art.
    2. The rules are complex, even in the basic game. I have had three opponents give up on the game (at least for now) due to the complexity. Another still loves it and promises to return for more.
    3. It is a game with a long playing time. Even for a scenario, be prepared to keep it set up for days, unless the players are going to try an all-nighter. And it does take up the space of a large table.
    4. There is just enough hidden information in the game from the "special action cards" feature that it probably will not work very well as a solitaire game.

I can't be sure how many Ardennes 1944 games I've played, but AH's Battle of the Bulge was my first, back in late 1965, and I've been wargaming ever since. Let's say an even dozen, because I'm probably forgetting 1 or 2.
In any case, Last Blitzkrieg is the best of all of them. You don't have to get very far past setup to realize this, either. The first time you assault the U.S. line with an SS Panzer Division, you'll just be in awe at what it can do, compared to, say, a Volksgrenadier division. This is a game that seems to do everything right, and I have not grown tired of it in the least. In fact, I've stopped buying Ardennes 1944 games after this one - don't need them.

Highly recommend playing Ligny 1815 along with Quatre Bras, from Hexasim, as one game - the rules tell you how to combine the two games. Napoleonic wargaming right there.

1776 was just a great game. A little dated now but really not that bad. I would really love to see GMT and Simonitch do a new version of of it, could be The US Civil War for the American Revolution.

You have to play "Divine Right". its really old school - part of it is the setting lore which is really good. The factions are a bit asymmetrical and the magic items are cool. I have an old original copy too. Honestly Id love to see you guys play this as Im sure its going to be weird to you both a real throwback to yesteryear.

    ROOT. Rebel Fury. On table.
Seven untouched and one played but incorrectly, and have since done a Correct mission with it. Will do another. Compass Storm of Steel. Ju-87.

Looking forward to Kingdom of Heaven, it is absolutely the best Crusades themed game out there (at that scale). It's a pretty standard CDG, with some lovely chrome, these days you guys will eat up those rules 👍. First scenario is quick but might not give you a real flavour of all the great things in the game, such as all the factional infighting and diplomatic back and forth. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. (having the Kingdom of Heaven movie soundtrack playing in the background brings a load of atmosphere to the party)

Thanks for another interesting show guys. Some quick thoughts...
+ You'll like Next War Vietnam much better than NW Poland, at least I did. BTW I did not care for NW Iran Alexander. Didn't like the map and the game felt much too static. One guy's opinion of course.
+ Dien Bien Phu - In my top 5 all time. Love the game & the history. The real battle was much more a near thing than most casual observers would think. Giap almost threw in the towel due to excessive personnel losses. Wouldn't have changed France's long term descent toward the end of their empire.
+ GCACW my top series. Thanks Grant for only mentioning the die/initiative function once. You know I got mad with you on the earlier review episode for going on so long about it. That was silly. Forgive me for that and I forgive you for being wrong about that facet of the game (I kid! I kid!)
+ I want to get Vijaynagara, looks great.
+ Another example of different strokes - never cared for the blind swords/black swan games. I think "Longstreet Attacks" is another one in the series you showed?
    Cheers. All the best for'25.
