Amazing artist. I always sang this to myself as "Maybe I'm lost" and only just recently learned it's actually "Baby You're lost". Well I'll always sing it my way.
I used to think a break up meant you stopped loving the other person. But it's more tragic than that: the love never really dies. But neither does the pain and resentment. The relationship becomes cluttered with things other than love, up to the point where love has no room left to show itself.
You hit the nail. At some point it becomes impossible to live your love and be happy with it. Most of the time you spend together you feel bad afterwards or during. The relationship turns toxic. That's not the meaning of life.
@World's Biggest Booty Hoes that's more how I interpret this song, my teacher showed me this song when I had to leave an abusive relationship and that's how I relate to this song on a personal level. Also, great username.

I saw this song played live by a country band (a serious country band: Cowboy hats, cowboy boots, pearl button shirts and rodeo belt buckles. Not even a sole John Deere baseball cap.) They didn't do anything to make it sound like a country song. It was a faithful cover of the song, perhaps the most faithful in tone and instrumentation I've ever heard, but the good-old-boy country crowd accepted it like a dive-bar staple, and a lot of people got up to slow dance. While the band was playing a woman handed out blown-up balloons, and when you popped the balloon you'd find a treat inside: A piece of candy, a 'round tooit' (for a free drink at the bar), a dollar bill, coupons for fast food, fortune cookies, stuff like that. It was a little surreal for a country set. It validates my idea that Beck is a hot mess of radical conformity. Culture and counter-culture, quietly packaged as avant-garde. To be different, while demonstrating that being different really doesn't matter.
This song came on the radio one day as I was driving home. It very accurately describes how I feel about my own life. "I'm tired of fighting...for a lost cause."
Most people hear this song and think about their ex, I hear this song and think about my mother, and how she can't change her life and leave my abusive father. I tried everything. I even suffered myself, twice - once from my father when I was a little child, and once from trying to help her to leave him. I can't convince her, I can't force her to divorce. She'll never leave him, and I must move on with my life.
This post hits right in the gut. This couple I know need to get away from each other just like you say your mom needs to get away from your dad, but it’s not going to happen and I fear she may wind up hurt or even dead, and he’s going to be in jail.
There was a person that I loved for years. I could do everything for her, but she didn't really care for my feelings or never wanted my help or effort with her problems. Now she has moved away to another country and has just started a new life. This song fits perfectly to this case, but it was hard to realise that she was a lost cause, though I've been feeling tired of fighting for her
Girlfriend broke up with me and I had to move to another town, listened to this album the entire drive. Thanks Beck for always being there when I need ya
This song came from the heart. It’s certainly one of Beck’s more acoustic songs, and it feels very personal and it’s about such a sad subject matter. One of my favourite songs of his, partly due to the honesty of the lyrics, its like personal insight into a love lost situation.
What a great tune. I had a crazy ex with many problems. This resonated so well. Looking back maybe I wasn’t the best. People are complex but this helped a lot. Nice to revisit
His Sea Change album reminds me of when I would drive 17 from Myrtle Beach to Charleston and back. Perfect weather. Window down. Beck playing on the stereo. No worries.
One of the many things I like of Beck's music and videos is that they're timeless... I mean, I feel like this song was released in the early 90's but it came out in 2002... I can see myself listening to this song in the middle 90's or (Mellow Gold era, maybe) in ten years more and still will be refreshing and catchy, and the video too, like all Beck's videos. Beck is a genius... Cool music, cool videos... I want my 90's-00's back seriously!
Sad has to be done well enough to overide the sadness into something else, it's one of the signs of a truely fine artist ... the something else is up to you.
It's about surrender and the feeling of leaving something behind so loved but extremely detrimental to one's self if they stayed. Change out of necessity, not for just the sake. You could interpret or apply this song to anything and any way imaginable, because change is the constant in life and sometimes the things we hold dearest or fight blindly for no matter what it is, are not really the things or people that we thought they were. Been dealing with my mother who has stage 4 lung cancer and brain tumors. But she has a rare or scarcely diagnosed form of dementia on top of that. Trying to help someone who lives in their own little world, especially your own mother with a terminal disease, sometimes is the hardest and biggest battle you'll ever face. I don't "fight" it anymore, but I haven't given up either. This is exactly where the saying "pick and choose your battles...." comes from. It hurts like hell, but you have to realize and understand when it's time to move on, or get stuck in a constant cycle of misery that the devil himself wouldn't wish upon anyone.
Why is the falling effigy of Beck so sad? It's just a bunch of fireworks and paper, but it fits the tone of the song perfectly. Whoever came up with the idea to film that in slow motion with all the various stages it goes through is a damn genius. Seriously that was a cool idea.
This song came on when I spent the night at my best friend’s house in high school on SNL. I remember liking the song immediately and have listened to it for over two decades now. Some songs just resonate.
The first line kills it. This sad song hooks you with the first lyrical line "Your sorry eyes, that cut through bones" which pretty much what anyone can think of their loved one. its the eyes that you will always remember. Be they a lover, child, a friend or even an unfulfilled love whom you just have to let go.
...the hard feeling...of being left by the one you love...or leaving the one you love...wear your wounds for they are a badge of honor...that takes you home....
I AM tired of fighting, and scared of just how tired I am... Not that it matters. The only ones who would have missed me are already gone... Sorry. Bad day... It happens, they pass. My boyfriend says he would miss me, but he would be so much better off, he doesn't even realize... He shouldn't even have to listen to crap like this. I WANT to believe he loves me, but I can't feel worthy, so... Days like this will be the death of me. Haha... (Gallows humour, sorry...😳)
This song takes me back to a time when I pulled some levers I shouldn't have pulled. But, I pulled them, and am better off for doing so. You can't leave yourself. You get to carry everything. Sorry.

@@brmbkl Dang, should've thought of that! Of course. Kind of sad when artists are forced (or at LEAST feel forced) to do that.
@@MP-tf7cc because it has Beck’s face
"I'm tired of fighting, I'm tired of fighting, for a lost cause." ~ Beck
This song came on when I spent the night at my best friend’s house in high school on SNL. I remember liking the song immediately and have listened to it for over two decades now. Some songs just resonate.
Love this whole album. Sweet, sad, melancholy.
i love the first two lines of this song
This is the best song from the best album he's ever put out.
Esta canción es tan hermosa y tan triste a la vez :(
asi es
Jodie will forever be remembered in this song, you went through so much in your life, always know you are never alone.
Beyond Two Souls 😢😢😢❤❤❤✌
This song Bites into my feels and chews on them for a while... Beck is allowed in here
So many times ...and the same end.
Beautiful song!
Beautiful just Beautiful 💖💖
So fucking sad :(
"Your sorry eyes, they cut through the bone"
This was nine years ago. How am I only hearing it now?
Now this comment is nine years old
@@goxdie000 :o
This is the most exquisitely sad songs i've ever heard... I love it.
song makes me think how lonely i am and how there is nothing for me in this life and how i will be alone when it's all over.
Justin Fitzsimmons there's always hope in the darkest of events.
We are all alone , find comfort in yourself.
I used to feel like this, and then I realized I actually prefer to be alone.
Get a dog and you will never be alone.
Omg this song should be outlawed. You're not alone...stop listening to this song
This song has always made me cry
I love this song so much. So plaintive. I've been on both sides of this. Beautiful.
This song is amazing, perfectly arranged, a deep search of the right sound....and last but not least, wonderful video!
Well done Beck!
Now here is an artist, making beautiful music for the memories that touch our soul.. thanks
...the hard feeling...of being left by the one you love...or leaving the one you love...wear your wounds for they are a badge of honor...that takes you home....
I'm here cuz I'm sad, and this song basically sums it all up. Though I'm not tired of fighting, it's a lost cause. ugh.
writersherlock hang in there
I AM tired of fighting, and scared of just how tired I am...
Sorry.
You're a miracle Jodie. Our miracle.
I would listen to this when I knew it was over with her. Now I come back when I want to remember her.
Beyond: Two Souls brought me here.
One of the greatest games, in my opinion. It has such a powerful story.
@@oddball1260 I love the game
