First time I’ve seen a Maytag repair guy actually do some work.
😂 Good one!
It's rare that a Dependable Care machine needs more than a belt set or an injector hose. :)
Back then, I remember the Maytag advertising with the lonely repair man and dalmatian dog. We had both the washer from Maytag, and the dalmation.
I'm simply trying to come to terms with the fact that I just watched an emotionally uplifting washing machine repair video.
Wow! Just how long did that restoration really take?!!! Fun to watch. Didn’t realize how long it was until I was half way in and had to see the end. I remember my mom had a GE washer when I was little that had the florescent backlight. It had a bunch of pink lever switches to select the water temps, extra rinse and stuff and one marked “suds saver” that I think reused the wash water by pumping it into and back out of the second basin in the laundry tubs.
LOL! i AM WITH YOU! It says something that there have been almost 11,000 views of this video
Very cool! I love when these gems are saved instead of scraped, abt the onoy one you can buy these days made as well as these is a Speed Queen, no even sure it is as good as these but after having several crap, various manufacturers, just yesterday bought a Speed Queen washer, so excited
"I'm" (No Replicates Found) you are wrong with it right now I’ve never been
Look at that old American quality. Look at all that metal. Beautiful job!
There is simply no better washer than a Maytag Dependable Care machine. Thank you for restoring this beautiful machine.
I love the blood pressure cuffs to get the agitator off. I broke an agitator trying to get it off. [sigh] It was black with the stainless steel lint screen and fabric softener dispenser.
What a beautiful job. That machine is 1000% better than the junk today.
I’m so proud to see this great appliance lovingly restored. Oh the simplicity. Sure won’t be doing this in 40 years for today’s stuff! Eugene if I had five thumbs they’d all be up!! 😊😊
Indeed, this machine was definitely the end of an era for sure when things were made in america and people took pride in what they did, now it's a race to the bottom to see how cheap they can build it and what kind of profits they can make when they dupe unsuspecting buyers into spending $1000 on junk only to find out it only lasts about 5 years and theres little to no help from the manufacturer once it dies so you have no choice but to junk it and buy new
@@jhomrich89 It so serviceable too. I have a whirlpool I use around that age and the panel is in the rear. Still very high quality.
Be lucky to get 5 years on today's sad over chrome coated plastic of today.
@@jhomrich89* TOO TRUE in Today's "Disposable World" Jon . . . Unfortunately !! 😞
@@jhomrich89 I don't know if I can quite agree with that. Mom had this Maytag machine for years (was my grand mother's). Then she upgraded in the early 80's to the new model, while keeping the matching dryer. The washer lasted us 30 years. She was meticulous when she researched.
I learned and bought a used mid 80's refresh version of her machine for $200 after moving out. It lasted me 10+ years. When the transmission died, the repair man said he had a used early 90's version of the same machine for $175. I've been rockin' that machine since 2008. The parts of these machines were definitely made to last! Just bought a new-to-me home and it came with a vintage 80's model like my mom had. I may be good for another 20 years 😂years.
Came across this video trying to troubleshoot our Maytag A102 washer that has been in continuous use since 1965! It just started squeaking on and off during agitation this year, i.e. in its 59th year of service. Local appliance repair companies have told me they aren't able to repair machines of this vintage. So frustrating. Would love to find such a skilled repairman as this one. What a beautiful job!
Likely yours just needs belts. Veery available. No tools necessary. Tilt machine back to lean on wall and replace 2 belts. Repair places that have been n business for 40 years or more will gladly work on it
@@sugrue8526 Thanks for your reply. At the moment it's behaving well, but if the noises start up again I will try changing the belts as you suggest. We will continue to use this machine as long as it keeps working!
I just heard from someone today who is having the transmission problem, and said the parts were listed but nolonger available. Now that Whirlpool owns Maytag, they are going to do planned obsolescence. They want to force us to buy that new HE crap of a washing machine. The last direct drive washer with a transmission is a Speed Queen. The Speed Queen dials on one of their machines that is highly rated are set up exactly like the Maytags of the late 1990's and early 2000's before Whirlpool came along and took them over.
now thats what I call watching a classical Opera of "Repair Of A Washing Machine" its a five star to me.
Amazing job as always! I’d rather pay a premium price for a refurbished machine from you over a cheap hunk of plastic HE washer that’ll only last for a year!
The BEST machines ever! They worked so well and the backlit control panel was a great idea. They also had an effective lint filter which kept lint from going down the drain and clogging it. These machines were so well made.
Eugene....I have to hand it to you....You sold me after that over haul of the Maytag....When I'm ready I'm buying a vintage washer and dryer from you!! I live in Conn. Your 8 1/2 hrs away....I know Quality work and that's Loraine furniture and Appliance.... Thank You Eugene for such Awesome vidio !!!
The restorer of this machine is a true artist. I never expected to have such spiritual joy over the new life that was given to this machine, which is also a creation of true artists. They would be proud of this work.
This video had me in complete awe; it was like watching a child grow. Once he finished the machine and we saw it in all of its original glory, my first thought was, "It's too beautiful to use". Breathtaking!
It's like watching a painter creating a piece of artwork! 😁😁🙏
This is amazing. I would gladly pay a bunch for one of these reliable machines. I swapped out a newer Samsung HE top loader (wouldn’t spin properly) for a 1980s pre-Whirlpool Maytag for $80 and its the best money I’ve ever spent. It runs like a dream! This one probably will last at least another 60 years with this painstaking restoration. So much more worthwhile than $1200 for a piece of modern junk!
Wow! Really? I believe it. A lady once told me of her experience with her first LG front loader..she wasn't happy.
@@blkpopeye Yeah a lot of modern machines are a joke compared to grand old Pre-HE machines which used the exact amount of water needed, washed well, lasted absolutely ages, and all!
My grandfather was lucky with his LG... It's an F1222TD and still working so far after 10 years but not every LG lasts that long before going badly wrong. I guess because my family's in England and his washer is an english model it's better but it doesn't compare to a 40 year old machine or something that has lasted at least 20 years or more without going horribly wrong.
I wish you were in Arizona so I could buy a washer from you. Hell I may just jump in my '91 F150 and make the trip myself to Ohio. Excellent job.
The sad thing is, a couple years back, Eugene would record his restore of a great vintage washer and then offer it up on youtube to someone in the comments...for free. And right when I discovered his videos, I fell in love and went to his shop and talked to him and it was right at the time that he decided to stop doing the free giveaway because the winners wouldn't come to pick up the washers that he recorded himself refurbishing to new for free. Just maddening.
OH WOW! This was an amazing time-lapse of a renovation of one of the great washing machines of the by gone era, and to the 1812 Overture no less! A perfect choice for an excellently, flawless, presentation! GREAT JOB!
First time I saw the inside of the helical transmission!
That was some serious dedication work!
more people have now seen the in sides of a helical drive than when we had to fix them, they never broke, o ring occasionally, great video
Call me a newbie to these, but I thought these were belt driven until I saw that incredible transmission.
They are belt driven. Belt on the bottom of the machine
pat cola I hadn’t realized that until I saw him put the base plate back together. Is that unique to old Maytag? I’ve never seen that before.
@@grandcarriage1 sorry so late but yes.
It's great to see this restoration! This product is worth it, nowadays, everything is very disposable!
This was my grandmas washer, in harvest gold, she misses it so much. I got her a 2017 Speed Queen 💛
WOW!
you did an amazing job on that Maytag 806 washer. You got it all spanking shiny & new from the inside out!
Thank you for making & posting this video. That is a BEAUTIFUL looking Maytag 806!!
😍
Good video ,I agree old washers were better than today’s washer machines
Wow. They don't make them like this anymore. The machine or the repairman!
So satisfying to watch . Never in my life did I think reaching 27 and loving videos like this
UnFreaking-believable! That guy knows his machine inside and out. Back in the 80's I use to fix copiers. I use to rebuild a very popular machine that same way. It was the Royal 115. I stripped it down to the frame and did the same thing he did. Boy, I miss that. This was a real joy to watch. Brought back lot of memories!
We have & still use, a 43 year old Maytag washer/dryer set we purchased the year we got married - 1980 - that we use regularly. There have been no major problems - just a few minor things that failed - like a water supply hose, the burner in the dryer, and a couple of small things. I think that this set so fit the ads "The Maytag repairman is the loneliest job in the world!"
I have to teat it apart & clean it up just like you did. Thanks for the video, I'll take my laptop with me for guidance.
Thanks!
What a beauty! Love those Maytag work horses!
I don’t know why this is so Mesmerizing to watch….. but it is. You’re incredibly talented.
Holy Crap... You're scaring me... The choreography of the music with the tear down is Phenomenal @4:05. Brilliant !!! My God it just crescendos @ 7:07... You should be directing an opera. @16:19... You have put a lot of thought into this vid WOW.
The End ??? brought tears to my eyes. This is Oscar Stuff... Indy Movies whatever... all I can say is Brilliant and Extremely well done. Congratulations. E.
It was really brilliant. His incredible talent as a craftsman and technician set to the entire 1812 Overture matched perfectly to each task and his skills as an editor.
@@LlyleHunter Yes. I agree. Mr. Eugene definitely has a musical ear. His timing was quite meticulous for each phase of his restoration.
I thought the exact same thing. Stunning washing machine.
I was going to say, the choreography was spot on in some places... I caught my heart racing a few times. 🤣
Thank you for noticing. These are the most difficult videos to make(and the most rewarding!)
dear god what beauty...it almost brings tears to my eyes
Outstanding use of of classical music. I just cheered for a frickin' washing machine!!! HE modern machines can't compare. They'll be dead in 5 years. This makes me want to do a load of laundry and it's 3 am as I type this. BRAVO!!!
Working with my dad we mostly had belt drive Whirlpool/Kenmores. Did a few motor roller kits on these. Always impressed with the simplicity and durability of the design. Nice job!
Look at that quality ! That’s a real Maytag for ya ! Not like today’s junk
Great work on this! I have a Whirlpool from 1998 still going strong! It's a shame appliances are garbage today and aren't built to last like this one was. Now it'll work for another 30 years!
Eugene watching you work on these vintage machines is an absolute joy to watch 💯. You're very thorough with the attention and care you give each of your projects. Thanks for posting this amazing piece of work. Stay safe and keep up the unbelievable work you do. 💯🎉🎖️
These are beautifully built machines. Well worth the time to repair and save. I own a 1984 set of Maytags. I’ll keep them forever if possible.
Wow Eugene what a fantastic job you did, I was blown away watching this!!! With all the knowledge that you have you should design your own machine and have it patented, I'd bet it would be the #1 seller on the market today!!! Great video Eugene and have a great day!!!
I was about to comment the same thing! He definitely should do that.
I am in COMPLETE AWE of your knowledge and restoration craftsmanship of these classic beauties! I'm 57 years old and my mom purchased a similar Maytag washer and its matching dryer back in 1970 in avocado green and it faithfully washed the clothes of us 5 kids along with my parents clothes. I inherited it when she passed away in 1987 and it continued going strong washing the clothes of my family of 6 until the transmission died and it no longer would stop at the end of each part of the wash cycle. The dial would move but the washing continued and would not stop to empty the wash water. I was sad to see it hauled away in 1999 after 31 years of hard use. I purchased a Kirkland Signature toploader washer made by Whirlpool at Costco. While its capacity was far larger, it only lasted 10 years before it rusted out at the bottom where the drum's springs attached to the base. Its replacement lasted only 5 years. I now own a 2004 toploader Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) which was used (6 years) when I acquired it, and thankfully it's going strong and has had only a couple of repairs done by my husband. I will never get rid of it.
However, after watching a couple of your videos as well as a couple other channels that feature these workhorse classics, I am tempted to go retro and get one of them myself. They are the classic muscle cars of appliances!
Compared to machines of today, those machines were almost a work of art. It's great to see someone making sure they stick around for another 50 years or so.
Thank you! Today's washers are crap.
Eugene...This beautiful used Maytag from old to brand new condition. Your a master of your craft...Great Job!!👍🇺🇸
Eugene god forbid the day but when the time comes for you to leave this world of old age. The Human Race will truly lose an Artist, Because I have never seen anyone take an appliance apart and be so detailed in the cleaning and rebuilding as you are. You are truly an ARTIST in what you do. God Bless.
Eugene, you are a national treasure.
In a new world of throw-away appliances, you have a rare talent friend. Looks badass!
I loved watching this. I just aquired a 1983 Maytag washer (LA511) and dryer (LDE410.) They use the same drive train that yours does. I didn't have the tools to pull the transmission out, but I did clean every inch of the machine before I installed them in my house. They are fantastic machines. Too bad they are cheaped out Whirlpools, now.
That is a gorgeous piece of machinery! Very well restored.
Whoever buys that machine will get a great deal. Nobody will be seeing one of those LG washers sold today working in 40 years. That style machine goes back to the 60's, i've seen them much older. I knew someone who still had and used their grandparents maytag washer and dryer from the late 50's. Grandparents bought them for the new house back then. Even old whirlpool/Kenmore units hold up very well.
God I love your channel
So amazing to watch the FULL disassembly of that machine!! I thought he was only going to spray the oil off the fears but he went right in there and took them all out. So cool!!
Im blown away with your attention to detail, the lorain furniture sticker with your signature next to it is a very nice touch, incredible job sir
I wish I had an old restored machine like that, beautiful. They are not made like that anymore.
Been everywhere you went on that thing, my complements to you on a job well done. You're a man after my own heart when you applied sound deadening! Isn't it amazing how simple and well built these machines are? Hands down the best washer ever built!
Hello From Athens Alabama
I wish I had your talent on rebuilding washers .
I have always been into washer since I was a kid
I can remember watching my washer and gas Dryer combo in a kitchen chair.
Love to purchase a rebuild one
Wow, outstanding! I was waiting for the panel light to come on at the end 🤓. This makes me miss my good ol’ A606 even more, nothing fancy but a great reliable hard working machine.
My mother had one of these and oh how I wish I had it. Congrats to the person who I'm sure got it for almost nothing at her estate sale.
I going to repeat a word that been used several times already - AMAZING job! I do restorations of Maytag wringer washers from the 1930s - models A, 30, and 32 - but they are very simple in comparison to an automatic. I can appreciate the amount of work and pride that goes into a restoration like this! Some lucky owner is going to be extremely happy - machines like this are worth restoring and keeping!
Totally agree Brad, same here with the twintubs, these videos are great to watch and such informative repair videos !!
I have this exact model. Bought it new and it has never needed any repair. I was thinking about rebuilding it due to it's age but after watching this I think I will pass. I am totally impressed. Great job!
He is freaking amazing! 😍🤩
As long as you can get the items for replacement this is a no brainer. I have worked on dozens of washers/dryers over the years and my oldest is the 37 year old Maytag combo, that I purchased my -first- home,... that I still own. The problem I see now is too many people want the Shineys and they pay for it in break downs. I've saved over 3 grand over the years making sure that they run right.
Excellent work Eugine ! God blessed talent right there .
This is the job that the Maytag repairman dreams of...
Incredible. I’m speechless!
I don't know how I ended up here. But two good things, I own a pair of wash/dryer machines from Maytag and second the mechanic repair guy is amazing. I know who to call...
Well done! Another classic Maytag given a new life. Thank you for sharing this video.
Love this. My grandmother had one just like this! I wished I could find one like it!
That's a really nice A808. Whenever I see an old Newton Iowa Maytag washer on the curb I grab it. I have rebuilt, refurbished many of these washers over the years. I got started in appliance repair when the "08" series washers came out, and became a Maytag dealer myself. Still using an A406 washer that I rebuilt in 1979 in our home. Still have many customers who do not want to part with their old Maytags. BDS Laundry , a good source for parts for the Newton Maytags. Enjoyed the video.
Now that’s talent. Beautiful machine
That transmission is better built that some modern car's lol gotta love the old stuff!!!!
Gorgeous job! Gorgeous machine! Amazing. I came here to see how to change the timer on our similar A608. Instead, watched the whole thing! What a beautiful job; inspires me to do at least some cosmetic work on ours!
I have an old 37 year old whirlpool that is still going strong. Yes, I have really taken care of it all
these years. Almost no parts replaced over the years and have done all the work myself. It is a
shame that these machines are not still made...Speed Queen still makes a good entry level. I will
buy one when the time for replacement comes around.
This is truly artistic work. It's impressive to watch this process and see your knowledge of each individual part of this machine.
Oh, and I appreciate the music! Not just a loop of stuff that gets boring after 2 minutes.
"Workin' on a Maytag. Workin' on a Maytag. Workin' on a Maytag." You are living Ol' Lonely the Maytag Repairman's dream there!
Such fond memories. When you cracked open the transmission, I could smell the gear oil.I started doing these kind of refurbishes for my dad when I was 10 yrs old !Wire wheel the legs, clean the bases, just go through them top to bottom. Remember the Highlander models that you removed the back instead of the front panel ? They had rebuildable pumps in them. I used to rebuild the brake packs in these machines, I never understood why, they all got soaked in transmission oil and didn't work anyway. Today, you can't even get decent replacement parts for them. The center assemblies and tub bearings are junk, and any of the machines with the orbital transmission probably have a rusted outer tub. Such a shame...
This was astounding to watch. I did this for a Bosch front loader about 5 years ago and I know just how much time and effort you put into doing this... plus the time and effort to film and edit too! Outstanding video!
This is the first time I saw the works on the inside of a Maytag.Or any washer as a matter of fact) I'm happy that there's someone that truly appreciates older machines. Excellent . A labor of love.
Best washing machine video EVER!!!!!
Lovely and great use of time lapse lol
Magnificent work maestro!
I am IMPRESSED! This guy is talented, patient and detailed. I can’t believe I watched the whole video, but I did. This guy made this machine better than brand new.
Mo had that model when I was a kid...59 now. The best machine she ever had. After it went, about 18 years, when Best Buy and Circut City made their cameo, she went to a mid level frigidaire, with a plastic tub. She was had...!
Do you own Lorain's? You have awesome tech knowledge. Or do you just do repairs? If you sell and do repairs, both, kudos! A real pro. I have done both only in the HVAC and Interior Design fields. Have had my own biz for 30 + years, ans have never worked a day in my life. That's how much I love what I do. I bet you are the same. We are a dying breed! More Power to both of us. I will do what I do until they cart me away! I bet you the same. Much Luck!!! Mike from Boston.
Aah, how I adore the ballet. 🩰
That washer machine and year was the Best Maytag made
Now THAT's determination and craft, and a worthy effort. Well done, LF&A! Your best post ever. Cheers.
Looks like you could do this in your sleep. Nice job.
This was literally a dream Eugene had that we just virtually watched.
You're an artist!
I want to scream! That was epic! What a masterpiece! This video made my day. Thank you so much. ❤
I have the same one. And a matching dryer. I just put them into a rental. I certainly could have bought a new set but new stuff just doesn't last - and sometimes I can't get new stuff repaired in timely manner. So I am sticking with old, reliable stuff. I got my set for free : )
True art...i would buy that in a heartbeat!
Fantastyczna renowacja pralki 👍
Kiedyś nie było mody na ekologię, a mimo to sprzęty da się naprawić. Naprawiane przez takich fachowców, posłużą kolejne 42 lata.
What a beautiful machine. Great job with the restoration.
First. Love the 1812 Overture. Bout 6 months ago my mom's washer went out and the guy said it was the transmission. I believe that, there was transmission fluid all over the floor. But what I couldn't believe is when he said it would be $800.00 to fix.
I think this is the government's way of making you buy one of those pieces of shit that won't put in the water.
THIS IS SO AMAZING!!! I just today... nearly one year after you posted this, have I found this video and YOU! WOW!!! I am so encouraged to see you do this! These machines MUST be saved! The stuff built today is plain garbage! You sure give those of us who have older machines, encouragement to keep ours repaired and going! I went searching for an older "real" Maytag washer and found a Stainless Steel Tub, "Atlantis" series! Had it for 4 years and just had to replace the Motor, but otherwise, it runs perfectly! I sure know where I will go when I need another washer! Thank You!
AND I must comment on the choreography of the music... as others have stated... OUTSTANDING JOB.... actually brought positive emotional energy to this video! You are brilliant!
Everytime I hear that piece of music I'll think of that Maytag lol.
If i could give this video 1 billion likes i would really nice job!
I want it with A matching gas dryer! Beautiful job! My 6 month old Whirlpool just had it's 3rd service call!
Wow! An artist at work! Amazing job!
I owned that exact machine and I rented so many places I left it in one of my rentals. I never forgave myself for doing that. Glad to see you restored this one. Mine was on mint condition when I left it.
Strangely calming & beautiful!
My Mom had the same set from the 60s to 1988. It would not spin or drain water. They were replaced with new Kenmore set that lasted from 1988 to 2005. Our old Maytag set was teal where this is gold. She always said that no washer could get her clothes as clean as her old Maytag did.
Wow! What an absolutely fantastic job!! I wish I lived closer. I’d gladly purchase one of the machines that you rebuild. Keep up the great work!
Looks like the one my mother had for almost 40 years. She replaced it in 2004 with a new Maytag that was made in the Newton Iowa Maytag plant. When Maytag and Whirlpool merged in 2006 the Newton plant was closed, and the new Maytags were rebrands Whirlpools. Wish they would make these machines again. They were tough and hard to beat. Very seldom needed repairs.
