OH this is Awesome Guys, What I wouldn't give to have a machine like this right now!!! I just love watching these videos and Thanks guys for sharing them with us!!! Both of you have a great weekend...
I would think that the Maytag A806 is the best Maytag to roll off the assembly line. Wish Mom were alive today to show her this one. We owned one. I wonder how many spin cycles it went through. It would have a story to tell... We talked about it forever.
As our Maytag aged, it made some interesting sounds. My Mom's cousin come for a visit and said: "What's that sound in your kitchen" ? Mom replied, "I'm washing clothes".
Why the Kenmore "super roto-swirl" agitator on a Maytag washer? The Maytag (turquoise color) 4-vane agitators work perfectly great on a Maytag washer! I have an EX-large capacity Maytag washer (model) A-612 that was manufactured in 1989.... & it's still working beautifully, & still looks "almost" new!!
Great video.. Fantastic washer.. Always loved watching the agitator go back and forth since I was a kid.. I miss these washers.. They got your clothes clean, not like the crap that only dampen your clothes today. H E WASHING MACHINES ARE THE WORST!!!
I love that comment at the very end when you mentioned the GE's. I would love to see you restore a GE Filter Flo. My grandparents had a matched pair in the late 80's/early 90's and I was little but that machine made me fall in love with washing machines. Love Bob's modifications as well. So cool! His stuff can seriously clean clothes.
There was so much that went wrong with GE washing machines, the timer, two speed mechanical clutch, motor, then later on a plastic transmission instead of one cast in metal.....and so very noisy compared to a vintage Maytag. No Thanks
An EXTREMELY Awesome video!!! Lorain can you find out from your friend Bob what did he do to install the Kenmore Super Roto-Swirl agitator into the Maytag washer. I'd like to do the same with my Maytag A712. I'm also seeking advice to find out if I can use (5/8" inch belts) to increase the Maytag's agitation and spin speeds other than the 50 cycle motor pulley set. Again, your videos are GREAT thanks for sharing.
@@LorainFurnitureandAppliance Glued onto the power-fin agitator base...what about the screw bolt the super roto-swirl uses for the cap...how does it stay on being that Maytag's transmission is a low-post drive and the super roto-swirl washer tranny uses a tall post drive.
I would think it would be more wear and tear on the transmission gears. With four additional capacitors installed, what is the initial current spike when the motor starts up, and how much warmer does the motor run? This was probably the reason Maytag went to a 1/2 HP motor over the previous 1/3 HP. I will admit the later Orbital transmission held up well in the 20+ years we had our last machine. Now we own a front load Speed Queen washer and dryer.
think a dual action agitator from a later model Maytag dependable care would take some of the stress off that modified transmission and give a much better cleaning action
Wow this is a real Frankenstein it has a whirlpool agitator cap a Kenmore agitator and hyped up transmission. I actually like the original Maytag agitator better maybe that’s just me.
Terry Jourdain my mother and I had a harvest gold Maytag a little newer than this model it worked fantastic I was so sorry I changed it to a digital GE no comparison with that Maytag, it was still working when I put it out to the curb with a sign on it that said I’m still working a guy passed by in a truck and picked it up.
petermazbabie I made that mistake when I let them take the old kenmore out of my current house and replace it with a new Samsung front loader...I don’t like it much at all for some things..
Nothing boring about this Myatag! I would love to see it was a true Super Surgilator! Also, was this an old video or did you really loose the Romba for a second time?
Miele's are impressive machines. Matter of fact they are heavier than my Speed Queen! The Europeans (the Germans in particular with Miele) really know how to make a washing machine! Only downside is that they are freakishly expensive. To answer your question yes I believe they do have all stainless steel tubs (inner and outer!)
Incredible piece of engineering. It just goes to show, even back then, before Whirlpool and Maytag merged, their parts were interchangeable on their appliances. Isn't that something. 💯🏅👍
I really wish they'd bring back these old console designs. I don't want a digital control panel with capacitave touch and encoder knobs - I want clunky buttons and an early 1960s Chrysler spaceship dash. Going to miss the porcelain drums when they're gone too, especially the speckled finish. Stainless and powdercoat have pushed porcelain out of the market.
I agree with you about the digital controls however, the stainless steel tubs are superior to porcelain. No chips, cracks and no rust when porcelain pieces chip off.
WOW BOB, THAT’S NEAT!! I assume that’s still a Maytag A806? Yes? Or No? With a 50 Cycle Pulley in the drive system? And a Kenmore Super Roto Swirl with a Whirlpool Surgilator Cap on it. That’s Neat!! How did you do that, Bob? -Charles-
You know I always wondered about that, why did Whirlpool/Kenmore opt for the neutral drain and Maytag the spin drain? How did each company know which one would be best in terms of reliability?
People have been modifying and 'Frankensteining' cars for decades. How much harder could it be to do the same things to appliances? I like what you've done here, I wish there were more people doing the same thing, wish there were cult followings and a matching support industry as there are for modifying automobiles. There are scores and scores of old, beautiful refrigerators everywhere. But the obsolete freon and lack of replacement parts renders them almost useless, prohibitively expensive to restore at best. Too bad there aren't retrofit kits made for old refrigerators, or support groups or clubs for taking the innards of modern units and custom fitting them to the older 'chassis'. I've got a '57 Philco 30" wide electric range, it's spectacular! But it sat in an old homestead structure out in the desert for decades. The insulation for all the wiring is crumbling and one of the one-off porcelain connectors for a burner is broken. I haven't had the time yet to look into it but I'm wondering how many 'customizing hoops' I'd have to jump through to take the inner workings of say a 1990's range and fit them to the Philco? Who else is doing this kind of stuff??
I would love to be able to do what you do. The mechanical ability is not there. I have been interested in washing machines since I was old enough to push a chair over and put clothes through a wringer including my arm. Oops.
Awesome! Those older Maytags are the best ones ever built !
That roto swirl agitator I have seen before. We had a Whirlpool washer in the 1980's that had it. They called it the surgilator super.
These machines could really tackle heavy duty work clothes and get the job done. Luv the noise!
HOW DOES BOB DO THIS! THIS IS AWESOME!
Old School Modified for the win!I I like it!!
This is a hilarious Maytag. Love hearing you guys talk about all the common problems and all things Maytag lol lol..
Would be awesome just to listen to a show of them talking appliances and telling their stories.
@@jackoff1826 like Car Talk but with appliances 😂
Tbh I would find that so relaxing to listen to!
@@abmrose miss car talk with click and clack a lot...just a once a month appliance talk show would do it for me. One hour at least.
They'd get a lot of callers I'd bet on the radio for a nation wide appliance talk.
Watching this in action, there is no question this gets the job done!!!
What a washing machine!!!
It is good the way it was made and doesn’t need any beefing up as it washes just fine!
OH this is Awesome Guys, What I wouldn't give to have a machine like this right now!!! I just love watching these videos and Thanks guys for sharing them with us!!! Both of you have a great weekend...
Loving the spin cycle. Love the sound it makes
I love the movement. Those clothes will be clean!
Pretty good handling of the Maytag counterclockwise spin with those Kenmore roto-swirl fins which are made for their clockwise spins.
Those were some of the best machines
Thanks for posting - I love the change to the roto swirl!

Awesome ! I saw a video with this washer using a maytag dual action agitator and it was really cool
That agitator cap looks extremely handsome!

Why didn't i think of this.
That is the style maytag i hope to own some day
wish I could have this washer, love it
Looks exactly like my late grandma's!!! That machine worked for decades!!! Those washers were built to last!!!
I want one too!!!
Makes all but wonder on what if old-school Kenmore and Whirlpool washers were made to spin-drain.

They might as well all been named Hotpoint!
I just got rid of one of those. I miss the light up panel!
Lmao Tim the tool man Taylor would be proud 😂🤣😂
You try this washer with a Maytag agitator.
Love that spin strobe!!!
My grandparents used to have this Maytag A806
I still have my grandparents 1970 gold 806's. I love them. Showroom condition. To think someone born in the 18 hundreds washed their clothes in them.

Wouldn’t making the washer agitate faster than its designed to wear the parts out faster?

Another great washer modified to out perform anything built new today.

petermazbabie the bouncing action of this agitator might clean better than the quick swish of the Maytag
Terry Jourdain I just love everything about the original Maytag. You could be right but the old agitator to me has better turnover.
petermazbabie I lived in a house that had an original Maytag just like this and the matching dryer...they both worked very well.

It Has The Early Frigidaire's Spin Action, Cool

Meeli poobsh.
This is different. I surprised the agitator fit. It agitated faster than the old kenmore
These are the ones that will make it through the next Great depression (caused by Covid19)
O my god i would be in heaven if i was there.
Did you install a 5-speed transmission from Maserati into the Maytag 😂. A V6 engine in this machine. 😂
I wish my 1980s Maytag could be modified. The dryer died long ago

a lot were not interchangeable

RESTORATION VIDEO! The one you have in your shop.
Zippers should always be up so as to not to tear clothing.
This is a werd modification for a vintage Maytag, especially the speed of agitation.
Is your house full of washing machines or what?
It agitates like a GE Filter Flow.
My mom had a filter-flo in the early 90's. It was a hell of a workhorse until it gave out on us in the early 2000's.

I thought all Maytag washers drained before spinning. That's why the lasted so long.
I don’t think they had a neutral drain
You know I always wondered about that, why did Whirlpool/Kenmore opt for the neutral drain and Maytag the spin drain? How did each company know which one would be best in terms of reliability?
Turn your work trousers inside out!!! They washer better by getting all the crap out if the seams, plus they keep their colour longer.
a kentag or a maymore hehe

It agitates as fast as a 90’s Frigidaire washer!
Agitando na força do ódio!!
That dont look faster to me
