Expecting sane people to sanitize the emotions, thoughts, expressions, and behaviors of pseudo-insane people exploiting said insanity for that express purpose is an insane ask, literally and logically. If you don't understand the laws of nature before applying delusional, hypocrital standards to other "sane people" (while pretending you're not), you continue to reap the same futile results.
When faux-crazies seek to exploit society's weaknesses by ignorning social standards there''s traditionally been two natural courses of action; punish and/or crush the exploiters or social collapse. Sane people logically pay taxes so LEO will enforce social order for them (and doing so on their own is illegal anyways) and most folks aren't in a hurry to provoke fights, anarchy, and social unrest. Sane people are doing what they can, given the nonstop shit-storms. It's your expectations that are crazy. Also you look like *exactly* the person to have several of these women in your social circle so why not start there (ya know, since you've ignored this issue for years and project it all here now).

As a woman in engineering - I'm ALL FOR Equal opportunity. The job fair literally is discriminating based on sex and personal sexuality.... Sexuality has absolutely NOTHING to do with the jobs in tech. Its not going to make you better or worse. We shouldn't ever hire someone based on their sexuality, at least I can't think of a job where that trait would be required. Not in fashion, economics, manufacturing, sports, etc. Jobs that may discriminate on sex (m/f) would include modeling/fashion, sports. If you are ever trying to meet a quota of diversity, chances are you are hurting your company based on hired assets. I've been to job fairs.. The number of attendees vs actual jobs handed out has to be less than 10%.. The fact that this job fair required you to pay to get in.. an absolute mockery of anyone who pushed for equal op. Just sad.

I've been in IT for nearly forty years... When I went to college working on my major Computer Science/ minor Electrical Engineering degree there were just as women as men in my classes.
My first position in the field the teams were pretty evenly split between men and women. Gradually, I noticed less women in the field... those who remained were older or born abroad. Why? - well compared to many educational opportunities in the west many universities abroad likely offer less choice?
So, actually what changed are there are now far more opportunities in other areas and industries - more choices - then there ever were in the past and so what happens is people flock to areas of their own interests. Now then... it's pretty simple the reason tech positions are dominated by males are that generally males still flock to an interest in tech - if a boy goes off to college few typically take an interest in other areas, and women have far more options available which meet their interest in our educational system.
When HR sends applicants to me for an interview... what they look like means nothing. There are very few things which matter, are they personable and seem like they'll get along well, do we think they'll be capable of doing the job and will they put forth the efforts needed to reach goals in a timely manner. I do not think anyone wants a revolving door when it comes to people... especially those who have work to get done.

Stats have shown that women have made up nearly 50% of programming positions since the 50s -- well before 3rd wave feminism. These types of events are not only pointless, they feel like a con.
What about holding opportunities for people to increase personal traits (more assertive or whatever) which maybe there would be a higher attendance by women, but personality traits consider weaker actually apply to both women and men -- as the reserve is also true. Technical positions do not require female only events.

What a PICK-ME, lol. As a woman in STEM and one with some self-respect and without a need to perform for men, if men want to have their own job fair, I have no problem with that. It's NOT "discrimination" when men to not be included in a job fair NOT FOR THEM. Nor is it "discrimination" to want to hire the LGBs. I think that's stupid but that's their right. None of this is "discrimination". You are not entitled to a job fair or any job. They can hire whoever they want. You don't tell other people how to run their business. You run your business how you want. I do find Pick-Mes like you interesting. So hiring women, LIKE YOU, will harm the company? Maybe you should quit YOUR job since you may have been a "diversity hire" since apparently if MEN don't get those jobs it's "discrimination". Give your job to a man.

Of course it turned out to be multiple choice so we chose all of them then there was a “other” slot. We put “identify as all genders depends on the day” apparently other classmates decided they wanted to join us. Then the school had their statistics shown bullying was high but the diversity status was hilarious.
When we were given those college forms (4-8 times a year wed have to fill out the same forms for 5 years) i started filling all the boxes for race and gender/sexuality and once wrote “im whatever gender/race that will get me in”

They wouldn't even look at my application, despite having critical staff shortages, and the reason why was because they didn't have enough non-binary applicants, and HQ was instructing recruiters to scrap all applications.
So, I applied as NB, despite being a completely normal man, and requested a 10k+ salary above offering and got the job. They can't ask about my sexuality in the interview or during my employment because of title IX, and since gender is a construct, I can just change back whenever I want.

If woman want to have a woman only event I will support their right to do it. The issue comes in that men are not allowed to have man's only events anymore.

When I was in school in the 80s there was a big push for women's issues. Women, speaking to women about women no men allowed. All the funding for bringing in speakers and hosting other social agendas was being consumed by women's events. In a satirical moment, I created posters claiming to be hosting a Men Speaking to Men about Manly Things, We were having seminars on drinking, spitting, scratching, butt slapping, cussing and sports. Everywhere the women's conference had a poster, I put up one of my fake posters. Eventually I got called in to the Dean of Students Office, and was confronted by the school psychologist, the dean and the president. It worked. I got funding released so that we could bring in speakers addressing other social issues that were important to ALL the students.

She said that Apple covered all of their "diversity" bases with every race, sexual orientation, race, and gender. Even trans/non binary were included.
After interviewing 100+ candidates, the best/most qualified person was a white guy who also happened to be married to a stay at home wife. My ex was told by Apple that she hadn't given enough consideration to diversity. So she was forced to re-interview everyone again. I remember being rejected from a job, being a prime candidate and having a knockout presentation and the interview went very well (a bit biased perhaps). Afterwards I heard from a friend internally that the managers never indented to ever hire a man but were looking for a women specifically, not qualifications, to do exactly as you say: fill a quota. This event was actually mostly unorganized. Friend groups of 2-3 guys would plan it together for those 3 but that was as far as it went. This happened more organically than a 15 yr old girl actually deciding they were non-binary.
Also we can no longer create female only spaces because men can identify as a woman now according to the groups organizing this. So instead of checking non-binary, the men just check women. If this happens in a state like California and a man identifies as a woman and the conference kicks them out for being a man, that conference can be held liable for what california deems as hate speech.

  • @xavierxavier3610
    @xavierxavier3610 9 месяцев назад +83

One of the big reasons why there are so many men this year at this conference is because right now it’s harder to land an entry level job as a college new grad (because of recent tech layoffs and tech companies not hiring for entry level rn. Plus they have to compete against people who just got laid off for the same jobs). This conference gives them another chance to land a job.
And most of these men are international students. So for a lot of these guys, they have two options: attend a women-only conference and upset some people or be sent back to your country without a job and thousands of dollars in student loans.

    • @mike200017

Exactly. When jobs in tech were plentiful, these efforts to discriminate against men only meant that guys might get passed over for a great job, but still be able to land a very good one. I cannot but help wonder how this isn't blatant gender discrimination and sexist practices specifically males. But, as was pointed out in the video by Brett, I don't think we're meant to make any sense out of this... but rather, we're just suppose to go along with their insanity and accept their BS and call it all good. (Strange how that once enigmatic verse from a famous book now is making more and more sense, "And they shall call evil good and good evil... and they shall persecute the saints and extol the ungodly; and with a loud and clamorous sound shall they herald their own destruction while the saints shall moan and whimper as they are beaten and murdered."

@@simonaaronson1968 I agree with you on the point that the moment NB people get thrown in at a women’s conference it just sounds odd, but it’s still not discriminatory. Because men were always allowed in the conference. The main reason this happened was not because this conference existed in the first place, but because they wanted to troll the event because of the NB title. Which ended up inconveniencing a whole lot of women who wanted to go to this event to learn about and be around other women going into tech. They were always allowed to go, like Brett said, it’s just that now that this clause was made they felt like being petty.
Any one of these young men could have just as easily found a non-gender-specific career fair being hosted by a college or firm by googling it, but they did not do that. They chose to do this instead to prove a non-existent point because men were always allowed in this fair, and men still far outnumber women in tech in a 3:1 ratio.

I'm not against having women in tech and would be great to see more of them in the industry but in my opinion when you start putting up barriers saying "men only" or "women only" it muddies the conversation. If women want equality, it's a two way street, you can't say "oh it's my turn now, you guys take the back seat", it needs to be equal positions for everyone and when you exclude a certain group then it's not equal anymore

The real kicker is that all their bathrooms were so full that they just decided they were just going to go into the men’s bathrooms and lined up inside there too. He and the other guys that were there had to not only wait in line just to use the bathrooms for them, but also couldn’t use them comfortably because the women were in there and lined up waiting right in front of the toilets and urinals that they would’ve used.
