I'd like to see John Danaher replace Liam Neeson in Taken 4. Just to hear him whisper "I have a very particular set of skills", as he footlocks his way across Eastern Europe, taking out sex traffickers and assassins, to save young Jamie.
Ah, but leg locks ARE a part of the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system. Jordan Peterson, he didn't say much. Similar with Gad Saad, Rhonda Patrick, Andy Galpin, or Carl Hart. Maybe with his comedy or fighter buddies it is different but I don't watch those.
Anyone else would interrupt this dissertation on all things mixed martial arts, but Joe did the best thing by trying to learn and in turn teach us. Danaher is not human. It was a PhD level convo. Incredible. Best mma podcast ever.
This guy loves creating lists of steps and there is only 3 or 4 steps to anything. I could listen to him explain the 4 steps to making coffee and it would be fascinating. Amazing.
"Joe, what is the first step in the system." "Ummm, to grab the beans or maybe, umm, maybe grind the beans." "Joseph, stop there. Slowly repeat what you just said." "Grind the beans?" "Yessss" [delicate whisper into the mic]

Jesus. I love Joe, and this isn't a knock on him, but you KNOW it's a great podcast of his when his guest is the one talking like 90% of the time. John Danaher, what happens when a nerd gets obsessed with combat sports. This was great.
2:13:31, John: "You just fucked up your own reference." Laughed SO hard at this call out! This was by far one of the greatest podcasts ever for a jiu jitsu practicioner. Especially when John broke down Gordan Ryan vs Cyborg. Thank you so much.
Fr, once you're a blue belt it's fair game to learn and practice in the gym. Hell, tournaments like naga in the no gi bracket allow knee bars as early as adult white belt. Beautiful to see how the game has evolved.
Lots of comments from people who dont understand John. He is a coach, a teacher. When you teach people you ask them questions to make the think about things rather than Parrott what others say. He is 100% in teacher mode. Thats what he is.
100% his background is academia...he’s not trying to make Joe look bad or be a smartarse, he’s trying to get Joe to think. I’m sure Joe totally understands this.
Damn.. I don't know much about Ju Jitsu but I can appreciate it as a system. But this interview was really amazing. I had never heard of John Danaher but he is really awesome to listen too. Very matter of fact, no BS, no marketing, good analogies and just has the ultimate grasp on everything it seems. Had me captivated!
he is truly a genius... I remember talking to him in the year 2,000 AD. I'm very flattered he gave me so much credit... Basically John is a real humble man and it was my honor to meet and know him but even more to know that i had potentially influenced his life
I think that he is more driven by control than by the money. He is upfront about having a difficult character and personally I was impressed by the way he handled it.
The way this guys mind work is fascinating. Just the way he breaks down jiu jitsu to joe, who is also a black belt in bjj, makes his understanding of it seem rather elementary and that’s no knock on joe. John is a gem of a human
I haven't understood the differences between irony and coincidence ever since that Alanis Morisette song confused the fuck out of the planet on its definition.
alcott devalte he only made him lool amateur because he was trying to get the answers he created. danahar has another level of understanding when it comes to jiu jitsu but in any field when you create the pitch you can upstage the highest level of player.
I absolutely love someone who is an expert or a master at anything in life. I love listening in-depth and learning from these type of ppl. Much love joe and john
T.Smith: I disagree, I think highly detailed jiu jitsu breakdowns can be boring but his breakdown of universal CONCEPTS is phenomenal and I believe is revolutionary in jiu jitsu which he explains in detail. All you need to do is understand a few of the ideas he speak about and it SHOULD help you improve your game.
Ive never practised jiu jitsu or anything like that in my life but this was great to listen to. Really insightful and made me appreciate the sport even more.
Danaher would be like, "the earth is three things: 1. solid, 2. rotating, 3. spherical. its solid nature has imparted rotational momentum, which over time has rendered it roughly spherical"
PedestrianRage I am pretty sure it was roughly spherical pretty much from it's formation on. Swirling gases collecting because of an increasing gravity well into a roughly spherical shape from the start, rather than 'over time'. In a very similar way to how dumping power into a draining sink will form a tight round clump of powder over the drain . And solid is not the key, density of mass is, otherwise how would the gas giants also be spherical... Rotation does ensure the even distribution of mass as mass was collecting together, so that I agree with.
@@ChrisMisc1 Real easy to say with hindsight. From the various comments you've made I assume you must be a BBJ black-belt with proper fight experience, you certainly seem to claim that level of knowledge. Got any links to your record?

It’s been reported that John Danaher can’t have a heart attack... Nothing attacks John Danaher
@@neilcolvin5348 His heart attacked him so he choked it out

He knows all about quality rash guards. We got the best.
He wears them on the train as well in manhattan. Saw him in Whole Foods, wearing the rash guard
Wore a rash guard at Matt Serra's wedding too.
gotttemmmmm
Loc Goblin he never wears anything else apparently, it's his thing
I just can't get enough of this guy!!
Please bring him back to the podcast!!
This is the only time I've ever seen Joe listen more than speak.
truefrompg you must not listen often. This is certainly not this has happened.
He does it often. He pretty much going to listen more when they have a professor type guest. Obviously this wasnt an open discussion and much more of a college level class presentation.

Damn this is one of the most articulate, intelligent and down to earth guys I have ever heard.
So he was a bouncer and a philosophy student. He’s Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse

This was like watching morpheus take neo down the rabbit hole.
It seriously was though.
This guy loves creating lists of steps and there is only 3 or 4 steps to anything. I could listen to him explain the 4 steps to making coffee and it would be fascinating. Amazing.

If I found out that John Danaher was secretly the most prolific serial killer in human history I wouldn't even be that surprised.
Zach Todd he certainly has a sinister vibe. Man is creepy af but when he speaks I cream my undies.

How fuckin good is his pronunciation of "yes", he really does sound like a total villain

Jesus. I love Joe, and this isn't a knock on him, but you KNOW it's a great podcast of his when his guest is the one talking like 90% of the time.
John Danaher, what happens when a nerd gets obsessed with combat sports. This was great.
Zachary Reichert correct
intelligence does not make you a nerd, dork.
2:13:31, John: "You just fucked up your own reference." Laughed SO hard at this call out!
This was by far one of the greatest podcasts ever for a jiu jitsu practicioner. Especially when John broke down Gordan Ryan vs Cyborg. Thank you so much.

That breakdown was GREAT... The detail which he described each position and movement
Agreed! The breakdown, at least for me, was simply mind blowing.

One of this guy’s talents is actually to be the first ever person in this podcast who managed to put Joe on mute for such a long period of time.
Tongue lock game is strong
It's a powerful skill, and with great power comes great responsibility.
Listen to the podcast with John Carmack 🤫
"Why would you ignore 50% of the human body"
Chills man, chills.
Quoting Dean Lister who Danaher learned a lot from. Awesome how knowledge gets passed and evolves.
Doesn't really apply to Joe though because 50% of Joe's body is his head
You simply cannot go for a leg lock in rolling as its just going to upset folks and get you in trouble. Its fun to practice them but that is it.
@@quasar4601 Funny how this sentiment has changed over the years
Fr, once you're a blue belt it's fair game to learn and practice in the gym. Hell, tournaments like naga in the no gi bracket allow knee bars as early as adult white belt. Beautiful to see how the game has evolved.
Danaher wearing a rash guard 24/7
He even wore one to Matt Serras wedding. Now he only wears ours.

Tom Atos rash guard and a cumberbun

You could say that about lots of other sports. I don't know why he rides that so hard.
why the fuck was he whispering for????
Haha, brilliant!
I hate when he says that
Because he knew John would counter that so incredibly thoroughly that it would seem like a dumb way to describe MMA 😂
Eddie Bravo, Tony Ferguson and John Danaher in a discussion would be genius
Add Nate Diaz to it. The conversation would be total fuckin chaos hahahaha
You could have charged 100 bucks for this podcast and it still would have been a bargain. When John Danaher talks bjj, we listen.
Joe Rogan has the best spectrum of guests from mma fighters, scientists, celebrity chefs, comedians to serial killers always something different.
Bryan Escober Hahahahaha. Pure serial killer. We are all lucky he found jiu jitsu to channel the psycho energy.
kevin ogrady who is the serial killer or is this just a metaphor?
Lots of comments from people who dont understand John. He is a coach, a teacher. When you teach people you ask them questions to make the think about things rather than Parrott what others say. He is 100% in teacher mode. Thats what he is.
harddobe absolutely. Interactive learning trumps being just being lectured 100%.
100% his background is academia...he’s not trying to make Joe look bad or be a smartarse, he’s trying to get Joe to think. I’m sure Joe totally understands this.
harddobe of course he is, hes wearing a rashguard to a interview
Legit serial killer vibes at 39:48 when he says "if I can inhibit movement for long periods of time, I can break you at will."
Silenkurii He marketed the hell out of those fannie packs... 🤣🤣🤣
Silenkurii Agreed. I don't know of him either, but seems very aware and enlightened.
he is truly a genius... I remember talking to him in the year 2,000 AD. I'm very flattered he gave me so much credit... Basically John is a real humble man and it was my honor to meet and know him but even more to know that i had potentially influenced his life
You should try it it's crazy fun!
I think that he is more driven by control than by the money. He is upfront about having a difficult character and personally I was impressed by the way he handled it.

"Nobody tries to brand a standing steer. You're gonna get killed."
The way this guys mind work is fascinating. Just the way he breaks down jiu jitsu to joe, who is also a black belt in bjj, makes his understanding of it seem rather elementary and that’s no knock on joe. John is a gem of a human
I know nothing about Martial Arts. But this was fascinating.
Ironically he gave me a point of view with his sentence about a point of view.
Michael Corcoran Well he is a philosophy guy. Ontology is his bread and butter.
"The right point of view is worth 80 points of IQ" --- Alan Kay.
I haven't understood the differences between irony and coincidence ever since that Alanis Morisette song confused the fuck out of the planet on its definition.
extra ironically Michael Corcoran just gave me a new point of view with his point of view
Seems like we're now talking less about irony and more about point of view inception.

Danaher has broken the da vinci code, he made rogan look like a amateur in commentary, get him back for fight companion
alcott devalte he only made him lool amateur because he was trying to get the answers he created. danahar has another level of understanding when it comes to jiu jitsu but in any field when you create the pitch you can upstage the highest level of player.

Tom Smith, delete your faphub account. That shits messing with everybodies head smh.
T.Smith: I disagree, I think highly detailed jiu jitsu breakdowns can be boring but his breakdown of universal CONCEPTS is phenomenal and I believe is revolutionary in jiu jitsu which he explains in detail. I would love to see Edgy Brah try explain to John Danaher the Earth is flat
Danaher would be like, "the earth is three things: 1. solid, 2. rotating, 3. spherical. its solid nature has imparted rotational momentum, which over time has rendered it roughly spherical"
I would like to see Eddy explains rubber guard to John Danaher
PedestrianRage 😂😂😂
PedestrianRage I am pretty sure it was roughly spherical pretty much from it's formation on. Swirling gases collecting because of an increasing gravity well into a roughly spherical shape from the start, rather than 'over time'. In a very similar way to how dumping power into a draining sink will form a tight round clump of powder over the drain . And solid is not the key, density of mass is, otherwise how would the gas giants also be spherical... Rotation does ensure the even distribution of mass as mass was collecting together, so that I agree with.
Hahahahahhaa this comment killed me!
