Normally, when I see a review video of a stationary bike, I don't even look at it, but I have to admit that this is by far one of the most informative & to-the-point reviews with relevant information that I've ever seen. EXCELLENT job. Thanks.
Finally a real world review. Great video. I really appreciate the info, especially about the headlight adjustment and the suspension setup. I never knew the high beam could have been adjusted. You should really make a video on how to go about doing it. I recently got my ZX10R. The suspension settings are from the previous owner. It feels good for now, but i may give your settings a try after i service my forks. Keep up the great work!
Man I had a 2012 when I was 19 and I just bought a 2014 a few months ago. Just got new tires and was so upset with the handling. Going to give those adjustments a shot and see how it feels. Best review of the gen4 I’ve ever watched.
Best and most informative review on this bike I've seen yet. Currently looking to buy one. I've had an 07 zx10r in the past and just sold my 04 zx12r. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
Thanks! One update on the suspension setting since this video was made is I started running 2.5 turns on the front forks tension (rebound) instead of 3 turns. But otherwise all else is the same.
wow, what a great allround review! thank you for all the tips. I just picked up a 2013 model. it's the best zx-10r generation for street use in my opinion. greetings from germany
You sir are a lifesaver, the suspension setup helped me alot. One thing I hate about this bike is the front sprocket nut. What a heacache that thing is to work with, its torqu settings come straight from hell!
LoL, yeah that nut is on tight. A good impact surely helps with that thing. On the suspension settings, I changed things a little since this video was made. I now run 2.5 turns rebound and 2.5 turns compression, but everything else is the same.
finally a real world review ```!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well ur videos r underrated ! hope u get million subscribers soon
Honestly imo, gen. 4 still being good, even it doesn't have any major update especially on the chasis for the latest gen. 6. With simple electronic(traction/riding mode) it still capable to compete in race track nowadays. besides wear and tear problem, it's a normal thing for 10+ year old vehicle.
Great video, im popping up 5 years later but are there any suspension setting recommendations that have changed since releasing the video? Primarily aggressive street riding here, not planning on tracking this bike in particular. Thanks again, super informative vid
Hello. Thanks. Thats a good question and the answer is yes. The only thing I have changed from the settings listed in the video is using 2.5 turns (instead of the 3 mentioned in the video) on the forks tension (rebound). This change brought a slightly more planted feel to the front end. So I now run 2.5 turns on the tension and the compression on the forks.
I have a 2015 Kawi Zx10r Factory Settings that was a nice video I never knew that I supposed to do that, My weight is 200 pound is you think that I can do the same settings that you have on your bike?
It would be closer than stock for sure. Especially getting the rear end up some. They send them out so low in the rear and it really messes up the handling
I have a '14 with 3100 miles and the front pre load is definitely way to stiff as well as the rear low speed dampening at factory settings just doesn't cut it .
2 years later and I'm needing the same info haha the fronts way too stiff and I'm not getting enough sag in front or back 😅 it's been a rough very responsive ride but whoever owned it last set everything basically to as stiff as the settings would allow
Do you happen to remember how many mm of thread was showing on the rear after you set it up? I have 10mm showing but I feel like it is too low now and I get headshakes all the time
Great review, I've had 3 gen 1 and 2 gen 3, so this would be the logica progression.. your suspension info is great. I'm just worried about lack of low down power and am hoping a gearing change may help with that.. maybe 1 or 2 up on the rear? What do you think?
surely minus one up front. But you can also add a tooth or two out back also. All depends on how high you can handle your cruizing RPMs on the interstate. Maybe start with cheaper used sprockets to try out different setups till you find your sweet spot?
Hey I know this is an older video, but on the off chance you see this, do you think you’d chance the suspension settings much if the front of the bike was lowered an inch? Thanks!
They are all great bikes. The 06 is a good looking bike, very fast for its time. A snappy motor. The suspension was softer in stock form. Great bike for the road with decent gear spacing for the road too. The 08 is sleeker than the 06, and once the 15 pound muffler is replaced for a aftermarket one it is lighter, sharper handling. And also a very snappy motor after a few bolt ons are added.. A little less bottom end power but more top end power than the 06. It has a shorter first gear which makes it easier to take off fast from red lights. Its kinda overall right in the middle of the 06 and 12. The 12 will be the fastest, especially once its unleashed with a ECU flash and a exhaust. But it does have a close ratio gear box that has a tall first gear so its good to change out the front sprocket down a tooth to help it pull easier from red lights. But once on the bubble the other too really can't keep up. Very strong and free revving top end pull but a little softer on the bottom and not as snappy, till its in the 9k to 14k range. Also the lightest of the bunch. Maybe not the best looking but surely my favorite to own out of the 3
@UpAllNight91 in the service manual I found such a sentence " When turning the high speed compression damping force adjuster (outside), turn the low speed compres- sion damping force adjuster (inside) too. But, the low speed compression damping force (setting position) dose not change." and I do not know how to understand it? it means that we should rotate high speed and low speed compression at the same time? or in the right order? or that both should be set to the same values? I will add that first I set high speed (12mm) compression and then low speed
Hello. Yes it is normal for the flathead in the middle to spin with the outer 12mm hex while adjusting the high speed. It won't change the low speeds setting while turning the high speed. But for peace of mind you can first adjust the high speed 12mm and then afterwards adjust the low speeds flathead
@@UpAllNight91 Thank you for the answer, I did, first high speed 12mm, then low speed, and finally - rebound in the hole in the motorcycle frame. The reason why some bikes only have one running headlight is because when you’re close behind a car, when they look in their mirror the two motorcycle headlights being so close together makes it look like a cars headlights do when they’re far away, so there’s a higher chance they’ll merge into you thinking that you’re a car far behind them.

I always thought the reason bikes only had one low beam light was so other drivers can tell it's a bike. Basically because 2 close together lights on a bike that is 100ft away looks the same as 2 far apart lights on a car that is a lot further causing drivers to think you are a car and misjudge your distance then turn out in front of you
Thats a good point too. I do remember my R1's from the mid 2000s had two low beams and then most other sport bikes only using one low beam. Hmm. Guess it comes down to if you need more light or not. For me I can hardly see the road on the ZX with low beam only, but I do know your right someone could mistaken it for a car way out.
