To defend Pelops travelling through time, the computer he was in was a singular point, meaning it exists in all points of time simultaneously. So Pelops wasn't really time traveling, he was just in a time traveling computer
@@chadgorosaurus4898 the computer is built around a singular point, which is a phenomenon that exists in all points of time at once. That's explained in the show.
Personally I really enjoy S.P.’s apocalyptic and godly (or ungodly) nature, with an opposite approach to the anime trilogy. While the anime trilogy’s godly Godzilla takes over the world as a force of nature, returning the earth to as it was before man, Godzilla Ultima shapes earth to fit its own needs, creating a hellish landscape, and his face resembling the oni of Japanese mythology reinforces this mythical feeling.
yeah, but the. there is the fine line between slow pace to flesh out characters and doing too much show, don't tell, which sadly most of the shows and movies that come out now do that, which kills the media in general
the most confusing thing i found in the show was lee's death, it implies it in ep 9, but after it shows her in a restaurant, i thought she didn't die and that was another character but then it says she dies
It was a flashback, the end of that dialogue was her asking Li about what happens when there's a -1 and Li says to look for something missing and then it snaps back to the present where Li is now the -1 missing component
I really think the shows problem is a branding issue. Of course if they call it godzilla their gonna attract all the people who want massive monster action, and yes, they did not focus on massive mosnter action. They instead made a high sci-fi mystery plot (which i personally absolutely love) but yeah, the godzilla connection is weak and the show could have substituted basically any other monster because it stands on its own feat in a different genre. Come to think of it, they should have thrown out godzilla and gone with a more lovecraftian creature if you ask me.
@@josevst7274 Agreed, but ultimately it seems like the execution was off. I haven't seen it cuz I don't have Netflix, but I was so hyped for this show. It seemed like the perfect blend of old & new, but judging by this video, it seems like somebody involved at Toho came up with the scifi-mystery conceit of the show & somebody else said, "That should be a Godzilla show!" & the show struggles in properly melding them together. I wouldn't wanna watch just any run of the mill sci-fi mystery show because I'm more of a movie person, & there are plenty of Godzilla movies to watch, but a Godzilla anime with a sci-fi mystery? I love the idea! Killer elevator pitch too, but it just doesn't seem like it worked out incredibly well.
@@TheReZisTLust Thanks for the reply! I didn't mean to come off as derogatory towards the show; just sh^tposting. Still haven't seen it bcuz I don't have Netflix. I was very hyped for the show with every announcement, image, trailer, etc. When it came out & got a mixed-positive reaction from fans & critics, I still stayed hyped. When I'd read spoilers about it for a few months after it came out, the hype still would not leave me. Although, with some of the more passionate Godzilla fans I've come across on YT, I'm not convinced I'll dig SP that much despite all the interesting things it has going for it that hyped me up. But, I don't let other ppl dictate my opinions, so I'll think of it whatever I think of it, whenever I get around to watching it.
@@BaldPerspective If you haven't seen the SP show yet, Godzilla actually made technical appearance since the end of episode 3 (in his other forms, like Shin Godzilla). And his presence is always felt from that episode all the way to episode 13.
I fully accept that I'm in the minority here, but I truly loved every second this show. I've watched thrice already. Twice dubbed and once with the subtitles. I loved the characters. I loved the story. I loved the animation. I loved the voice acting, both English and Japanese. I loved the fights (though I wish they were just a tad bit clearer to see at times). And I especially loved the high-end quantum and theoretical physics and how surprisingly grounded in real quantum and theoretical physics they were. The only things I can really point to that I didn't love were the initial look for Rodan, but that gets better; and the frustratingly short time we had with some of the characters, just about any of which could have been a main character in their own right. I should say also, that, while I am a bit disappointed that the earlier forms of Godzilla _weren't_ reimaginings of Titanosauras and Varan, I am very sad that we didn't get a triumphant return of Gabara. I mean Salunga takes _so much_ from Gabara, just make him Gabara damn it!
Agreed. This was my cup of tea. It’s not high art, but it’s a way more challenging and interesting take on Godzilla. I loved the lore and I didn’t find it too self-indulgent in the science mumbo jumbo, which I admit I typically love anyway.
This show was awesome. The characters were super enjoyable. They weren’t very deep but they all had great chemistry and I loved just how awkward Yun and Mei were.
As a King Ceasar fan, who researched what a shisa is because of him, I like that he is shown defending people from Manda in the end song. In the lore for shisa, one killed an evil dragon that terrorizing a village.
I would like a Genndy Tartakovsky style Godzilla show where G-Man just kinda wanders around and does stuff. Humans would only show up in the form of insects and there would be little to no dialogue.
If Toho likes Shin Godzilla so much, just make a Shin Godzilla 2 already. I hate the fact that this Godzilla just became diet Shin Godzilla, and really the legacy of that movie is starting to detract from Toho's projects as a whole. Still, I hope we get a Season 2 as it IS still a step up from the anime trilogy. Least I liked the people in this, flat as they were.
Man, I had the exact same thought. They just copy-paste elements from Shin Godzilla and expect it to work but it makes no sense narratively or metaphorically.
Necropost, but this is a really, really, generic way of looking at Godzilla from GSP. For one, they have 2 entirely separate themes and concepts. Singular Point is an apocalypse theme, while Shin Godzilla is a commentary on nuclear waste, and the Japanese Government's inaction. Secondly, all they share in common is the evolution; Ultima and Shin go through 4 stages. On the contrary, Shin can go beyond 4 stages, Ultima cannot, he just grows exponentially stronger without changing appearance. Also, there's no Shin Godzilla 2 because Shin Godzilla works better as a standalone movie, due to it's themes, and nature.
I don't mind the writing and the mystery in this anime (except for killing Anguirus). But my biggest issue in this anime is that Toho tricked us into believing that Titanasaurus and Varan are coming back. But NOOOOO!!! They were just two forms of Godzilla, which weren't necessary since I believe Terrestrial should have been the first form of Godzilla!!!
Mate, in a way Titanosaurus, Gorosaurus and Varan did return, just not in the way we thought. Heck, everyone thought Gabara returned but were bummed out to find that it was a new Kaiju called Salunga but Gabara in a certain way DID return just not the way that fans thought. I only understand a couple of things about this show. But I still enjoy this show for what it is. The characters are fun The mystery behind the monsters are interesting The animation is amazing Jet jaguar is awesome The end credit is just amazingly nostalgic Flaws and all this show is pretty cool. Please give us a season 2 and fix some of these issues
Great review man and I agree sp definitely had a interesting story/set of characters etc. but the execution could have been far better. I liked it to a point (pun intended) but felt it needed to focus more on it's central characters instead of jumping around so much. The heavy exposition/dialogue left me literally exhausted after I finished it lol. I am hoping for a season 2 though, hopefully they can improve were season 1 fell short
Favorite part of the show for me was the score. The OP and the rendition of the classic Godzilla theme were definite highlights. as for the monster designs, they're ok.
I can say as a big Godzilla fan, I can never watch s.p again and be absolutley fine. You hit alot of my problems with this series right on the nose. I feel the same way about Planet Eater. What got me into giant monster movies as a whole was the idea of monsters duking it out. There are films that work with just a singular monster (1954, 1984, Shin, King Kong) but when you add other monsters or mention them especially in a franchise like Godzilla, it feels like a slap in the face to me. I dont mind the science talk in any other Godzilla film because in all honesty its simple to follow and I know Godzilla is gonna fight a monster and i'm going to be satisified. When I feel the need to google a word every 5 minutes it especially considering what and average GODZILLA MOVIE IS.... It doesnt feel like a movie or television series as in rather a master class into some bullshit im most likely never going to understand lol. Also that red mist thing had to be an excuse to do as little animation work as possible. They copied almost every Godzilla apperance with scenes from shin so yeah...
The reliance of exposition is absolutely atrocious, Toh Enjoe shouldn't have been the lead writter of the show, and should have been a consultant to give the thumbs up if the science and math are correct.
I get the overwhelming impression that he REALLY hates the square cube law and all the guys that bring it up to point out how impossible giant monsters are. It's like they brought the guy in to do a more "hard science" take, but the guy hijacked it to make a thesis on how interdimensional supercomputers can make Godzilla possible.
The funny thing was is that he was initially a consultant, but Toho just decided to cut out the middle men and put him on the writer seat rather than having to go through multiple people to explain stuff.
In recent years I've grown to appreciate how open it is to make a 'Godzilla' product. At his point you can make it about anything while still sticking somewhat to what Kaiju are. Though I kinda wish there was more spiritual type stories like GMK. But this show was definitely the idea of the Singular Point and red mist before anything kaiju related. It did feel like most of the early episodes were made to be an actual show and events and characters, but the latter end was more about putting a period at the end of finding the equation more than putting an end to the story or anything. I still enjoyed it a lot for how different it is. But like 95% of people think of Godzilla as giant monster fighting and it could've used more of that. I don't think the JJ fights really made up for the lack of Godzilla fighting.
Its not that i disagree with the arguments that point out the weaker elements of this series, but rather despite them i still liked it a lot. Things like general audio-visual quality, character personalities and interactions, the specific take on the whole subject of reality and kaijuu. It was not perfect, but if the flaws ruin it for some people, well i cant do anything about it. I had a great time. In moments where i felt like i didnt get something fully I just let myself go over it like "alright, lets just assume thats what it is and move on" instead of getting upset, mad, dissapointed or frustrated. I can be critical and nitpicky when i need it, but here i felt it would be pointless and just spoil my fun. I had moments like "ok thats wierd" or "man, they could do it differently..." but not to the point of "Its awful" or "it is just objectively bad and i should feel bad for liking it". I saw so many critical reviews of movies/shows made by highly knowledgeable people and many times I had a feeling that they must have a hard time to actually enjoy anything anymore ;). In my opinion it often comes down to "do the elements i like about this are enjoyable enough for me to overlook the elements I dislike?" and in this example they were. Im not saying they have to for everyone or if the show is "objectively" good or bad. Only from my perspective.
I basically felt the same. To be honest, I was pretty lost for most of the series, and I was even overwhelmed with the amount of information dumped on me (since I was just binge-watching it) and had to stop at episode 6 and continue the next day. But I just rolled with it, because the few things I did understand were pretty interesting and intriguing, and that kept me invested. And then, after finishing the show and reading/listening to some explanations online, I grew to appreciate the show even more. In the end, the show definitely needed to present its plot in a more clear and easy to understand way, for the benefit of the audience, but if you manage to overcome the complexity of the show, it ends up being pretty enjoyable.
@@LinkNinjaMaster Agreed, but knowing the show's writer, his intention WAS to make it as confusing/complicated as possible, while still making sure that somehow if you catch things/understand the logics behind the elements in the plot, you can enjoy it much more.
I'd like a Genndy Tartakovsky style show. Similar to Samurai Jack or Primal, where Godzilla is just wandering doing stuff. Each episode he'd get harassed by insect-like humans or fight another monster. Doesn't even really _need_ dialogue.
I love Singular point because it brings back the mystery part of the Godzilla franchise. People are like: It's too similar to Shin Godzilla. Thats true that this anime is similar but thats one of the reason why I love it. Here monsters are not fighting machines but true apocalyptic, terrifying, mysterious beasts. Humans FINALLY get involved. Ans Godzilla...Oh Godzilla Ultima. My favorite Godzilla version. The idea of Godzilla being universe level threat is appeling. And the way Ultima got defeated is probably the most impressive. He didn;t get killed by more powerful monster. He didnt retreat. It took super computer that can see future and singular point to just stop it. And the scaries part is that fate of Ultima is unknown. It's still exist. But is just sealed. This is very mysterious piece of Godzilla franchise and I love it. And well repeating things never bothered me in this show. Maybe because I like when characters do that. But your review is just amazing
I like the news scenes a lot actually. They show how the common people are reacting and even capitalizing on the kaiju's sudden introduction to the public. I also thought it was a pretty good take on how people and the news would actually react to them. Especially on taking autopsyband the researchers seriously.
I like the news report aspects of the show. It gives a broader perspective on the kaiju problem, a bit like shin godzilla's political struggle to convey the threat that is godzilla.
Since you asked; I liked the fact that it was a Godzilla series willing to take Godzilla in a strikingly un-traditional direction in the same way that was tried in Shin Godzilla. You are correct in saying that the animated series draws a LOT from Shin Godzilla; from the fact that the human characters have more emphasis and total screen time than the monsters and monster fights. Even the "mysterious song/poetry that is an underlying "thing" in the series is just another version of the "origami puzzle" thing in Shin Godzilla. Don't forget the eccentric set of characters in Singular Point being a version of the "misfits" work groups in Shin Godzilla who eventually save the day. As for your complaints about the "info dumps" all over the series; I actually didn't mind it so much. I'm one of those types who prefer to watch Amine with original Japanese voices and english subtitles, as long as the subtitles are done well. So i just paused, "rewound/rewatched the parts with the info dumps (several times sometimes) until I had a good grasp of what they were talking about. With age comes patience I guess. Better than scowling at broken-logic Star Trek and just plain stupid Rings of Power, never mind brainless She-Hulk episodes, yes? The only thing i didn't like about G - SP is the fact that the entire series seems to have been one, very long prologue or introduction, hinting or even teasing that the REAL story will come with Season 2. you talked about "set-ups" in the series. I'm saying that the entire first season was a LONG set-up which stole ideas from Shin Godzilla, and it acts as a teaser to see if ANYONE is interested in seeing another season, probably with less info dumps, and more Kaiju-on-Kaiju action. BTW, considering how many things you didn't like about G-SP, i'm surptised that you actually finished watching it. My guess is that you did it as an excuse to make mure RUclips content for your Godzilla animation critique videos. BTW2; I am in fact a long time Godzilla fan; have been for most of my - so far -64 years, and like you, I have had my ups and downs with the Godzilla franchise, including the initial American tuna fish eating version of Godzilla with it's many, seemingly endless un-scientific UN-GODZILLA contradictions.
@@lewiscoates96 Shin Godzilla literally does nothing but walk and fire a beam. That’s it. But I think Godzilla Earth was even worse because he barely moved at all.
I loved Singular Point and it's weird science stuff, because i've always been a fan of wild time travel/interdimensional weirdness. Salunga was also my favorite kaiju of the show, besides this show's version of Godzilla. Interestingly, Salunga's name is based on the legendary bow Sharanga used by the hindu god Vishnu
No matter how hard I tried I could not get into this show. There's just way too many characters dumped in and to me, they aren't memorable or interesting. The redesigns for the kaiju aren't awful, but they don't click with me. I love the new Jet Jaguar design. I dropped the show after having to sit through the massive information scenes. I felt they didn't need as much explanation as they pushed. The show spends too much time explaining things while not doing the things they're explaining.
It was a missed opportunity purely for the fact that there wasn’t enough kaiju action. I would have been okay with the exposition dumps if there was more giant Kaiju fights so I could just turn my brain off after getting it loaded up. Better than the movie trilogy? Meh tough call. They are both good and bad for different reason.
I liked the series somewhat more when I went back a few months later and binged the whole thing straight as two 'movies' (in effect). Two Jet Jaguar movies, specifically. At its over-simplest, the whole series is a riff on the explanation from GvsMegalon that JJ programmed himself to grow larger, and how that could possibly happen (namely transdimensional computers made of exotic material existing outside time: all the kaiju are these abstract math computers competing against each other in disagreement about how to solve a deadly problem, except for JJ who instead are two abstract computers cooperating together to solve the same problem.) That said, it's verrrrrry much an acquired taste. And the writers suffer from once again (like the anime movie trilogy) being almost unable to make the kaiju characters. Almost, because JJ is definitely a character (though not really a kaiju until the end, so almost doesn't count); and I felt like Anguirus came across as a character. Sometimes some of the Rodans, but that regularly got swamped.
I mean I loved the new designs and I liked the show loads characters could be better I just liked the references in the credits and the old man guys who pilots jet Jaguar he’s funny I really thought the show is good I never really looked into the story
Personally i love singular point because of the whole science theme, i just really enjoyed the talking and theoretical stuff about time itself, dimensions and somehow codes aswell Another thing i really like is the designs this show demonstrates all throughout itself, i personally think that these animalistic designs are kinda realistic and i like them for that, they have a TON of really realistic traits that could easily find in an actual animal. It also makes me remember that at the end of the day, since the showa era godzilla kaijus at least are very inspirated by animals, they always were SUPER-FAUNA, its just that these designs make it a lot better to that aspect. About the characters, i dont really like them to be honest, it is true that there isnt any charcter arcs or development, tho the show has 13 episodes and its completely about science and kaijus, it certainly wasnt made with that in mind. The characters are pretty empty but with the 12-13 episodes format and SO MUCH INFORMATION there just wasnt any space for that. Personally i dont think its that necesary since the show just isnt about that at all, they save the world because why the fuck would you not if you can and in the case of mei she just kinda got caught into the whole thing, at first she just went to the archetype conference and didnt really choose to go to ashihara's house or to meet the people at shiva, she was kinda just dragged into the whole "saving the world" thing by profesor Li and later on by BB, and off course if you had a chance to save the world why the hell wouldnt you. I loved the show anyways even tho it has a lot of flaws, they kinda hinted for a season 2 but they never actually did, i hope they do tho, maybe they can save the show with that Sorry if there was any misspells my first language isnt english.
I didn’t hate Singular Point, but I can’t say I loved it, either. It wasn’t as bad as the anime trilogy, but it was definitely just as pretentious. They overcomplicated *everything* to one degree or another, and I kept being struck by the impression that they were just using words that made them *sound* smart, regardless of what they actually mean. (Archetype being a primary example.) This was a show that wanted to be “Shin Godzilla: The Series”, which wouldn’t have been a bad idea, as the characters were far more interesting and likable in Singular Point (not a challenge considering the non-characters of Shin, but that’s an entirely different conversation)… but they couldn’t leave well enough alone. “Let’s throw some classical literature references in there! Philosophy! Nonsensical time travel! *ASK* *US* *WHAT* *IT* *MEEAAAAANNNNSSSS* !”
Singular point really is just the modernized version of the showa era but with 3 of the kaiju being godzilla forms and the rest being weaker versions of themselves. Rodan also was done dirty here by litteraly dying to rain.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this show when I first started it, but now that I've finished it; What the hell was any of that? The show's plot lost me around episode 4, and the immense amounts of dialogue and exposition got really tiring and boring. It's an interesting concept but, frankly, it's really boring and really complicated. Maybe I'm just not super smart, but I couldn't understand anything about the science of the archetypes or whatever the sand was or the singular points or the time traveling computer...? I dunno. The score was great, I think the animation was charming, I enjoy the characters and their interactions (though I must say that there are so many characters that I literally forgot most of them existed and I don't even remember anyone's names except Yun and Mei). The Kaiju stuff was undoubtedly the best stuff of the show. Overall, the show's not awful. Just really, really, really boring most of the time. Genuinely fell asleep a couple times. Music is good, action is good, designs are good, and the animation is nice. If you're a Godzilla fan, you won't be missing anything if you skip this. But if you decide to watch it, be my guest. 6/10.
Its somewhat hinted at in the first episode that Yun and Mei were in some kind of a relationship over the internet. It’s not clear if they just like picking each other’s brains or if they are romantically interested. I lean more towards the idea of them basically being online lab partners. If I’m remembering correctly Mei was also wanting to meet Yun in episode 1 which is why they finally meet in episode 13.
old video but i adore singular point, it has flaws but as a person whos grown up with the western godzilla(heroicish or based in scientific biology). This eldridge horror godzilla was unique and creepy, while giving a lovecraftian un-understandable aspect to him. like to take him all in when he's in his red hurricane form will tear your mind apart. Also the wild pseudo science that probably isnt correct reminded me of 80/90 anime like akira or magnetic rose. anime that have strange scifi fantasy vibe that doesnt quite make sense but makes you think what if, and is quite memorable because of its strangeness
I’m one of the people who enjoyed this anime just my opinion everyone is allowed to like or dislike what they want cause I won’t lie I grew tired of over simplicity in the modern Godzilla movies and before people say “Godzilla movies are a shut your brain off series” yes most only one’s breaking away from that is this anime and Shin Gojira but why I love these two is cause it makes you think of different possibilities that could happen and I love that cause then that mindset can spread to other formats like art and fan animations who use their imagination to make something even more this is why I’m a huge fan of SP
I thought the red dust was a nice nod to Seatopia, or whatever island that isn't Easter some of the people from Seatopia surface from in order to do the bidding of it's leader (it isn't really explained in G vs Meg after it's initially discovered, and a button is crushed?). I'm glad you made this. I haven't had a chance to watch it all the way through. I may revisit it now.
unlike for everyone else i guess, singular point dumped completly on netflix in germany. i binge watched the entire show in one evening to night. i feel like the story and kaiju had a lot of potential, but things were massively overcomplicated or cut weirdly. i had to go back one episode and pay close attention to notice Li actually kicking the bucket... what i actually liked were the mosnter designs tho. having a whole bunch of different monsters roam around, be it the two rhodan variants, the evolution of godzilla, salunga or anguirus, i enjoyed them on the screen. the CG didnt look as bad as it could have... like those pesky weird flying drake things from the anime trilogy... im not angry or mad i watched it, but in the end i know i wont really give it another whole watch soon... also if anyone wants to know, the german dub is pretty good. shows often suffer from the same B cast everytime, but this one was dubbed actually pretty good
Yeah, it seems like something you watch once and done because of the mess that it is. It tries to do too much and it kinda puts the kaiju in the background, the whole singular point stuff is just stupidly complex, and things are just maguffin’ed at super convenient times.
I understand why you find it confusing, i really do, but as an individual i really enjoy the confusingness of it, mixing the events around in my mind to try and figure out the secrets and having to remember minor details. I see why people may not like that, but i personally do
I loved this anime, I can see your points, but the day the dub dropped on Netfilx I binged it as quickly as I could Some parts went over my head, but the characters we followed we enjoyable I liked the redesigns and it did not bother me, did not notice that we did not get proper Godzilla action till episode 7 or 8.
Not at all, Mlom is shit this is far better and more interesting with actually good characters, Unlike Mlom with cringey characters and bad storyline Only good thing in that show was the past trio story
My biggest problem is that, Godzilla needs to be the reason the show really easy to say that this show could work without any mention of Godzilla, Godzilla needs to be the reason the show is the show, he should not be able to be replaced
I agree. My ideal Godzilla show would be in the style of Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal; G-Man would wander around doing stuff and getting into situations. Doesn't need human characters or dialogue.
I personally loved singular point though I have some criticism like I wish there were more 2d shots of the kaiju and I wish some more side characters got more screen time. But otherwise it messed up my brain in just the way I like it
I think people are overhating this show... I liked this show a lot... It was an interesting take on Godzilla and the science and mysterious factor in it... I think the writers wanted it to be confusing...
Having the writer wanting it to be confusing isn't something to praise or brag about when the story should be simple for audiences to understand. Not something only for experts in physics to understand.
honestly, i really loved this show, i think is really good sci-fi (maybe not what people wanter that from a godzilla show?) and also the OP is top tier
I honestly think this show being good or not for you completely depends on how much a sci-fi nerd you are. the thing about hard sci-fi is that, they NEED to overexplain everything, since that's why they are that. ask the right audience, and they will tell you that the based on real science theories, are just as, if not more entertaining than the fight scenes. and those are the types of information that are basically impossible to do show don't tell with, specially with this many episodes. I didn't see the science talk as info dumps, I saw them as me and the characters trying to figure out a mystery based on given information. which only happened, because I mystery and sci-fi are 2 of my favorite genres. the thing is, while I do get why some may see this as a problem, I also believe that what this show achieved could not have been achieved without these info dumps and long science talks. if it didn't it would have been like primer, which is a hard sci-fi that does a lot of show don't tell. the result? 99% of the people including me got completely lost at some point. I don't think Sp has this problem. I think if you actually pay attention, the science is very well explained. people just get bored and stop listening which is fine, but that problem comes from the wrong audience watching this. If this show was marketed as a Hard sci-fi, aka it was marketed right, people would have loved it. I whole heartedly believe if the show was viewed by the types of people who watch movies like primer for fun, or enjoy talking about the details in the time travel of steins;gate, they would have loved it. the show is impossible to watch with subtitles though. I got to episode 12, had no idea what was happening after a certain point, and had to rewatch it dub. but I did absolutely love it after doing that. I gave it a high 7/10 it does have too many characters, and it is somewhat rushed, and some of the 3d is kind of jank, but I loved a lot more than I hated. + the soundtrack is a 10/10
Honestly? Singularity Point is just the worst parts of Shin Godzilla. The science babble can get REAAAAAAL boring. It WASN'T that bad, but definitely a lot of hammering and repeating of the same statement over and over again. Certainly, it can be quite boring. Characters are quite fun when they're allowed to be characters
I watched it for godzilla, it was never mentionned that it was gonna be just... Science... Like reallllyyy complicated science. I didnt understand ish. And there was barely any godzilla. Its really good, but they tried to attract the wrong public, if the marketed it as a scientific+kaiju anime THEN it would make sense.
You pretty much said it all, the concepts are interesting, but the execution isn’t great, the plot is confusing, characters aren’t that interesting, but some of the monster scenes are okay. I like some of the redesigns, this might be one of my new favorite Godzilla designs but I’m tired of toho just copying shin Godzilla from the shots to the lack Godzilla’s character. Some of the Easter eggs were fun, the score is awesome, and if we get a season 2 I hope they listen to some of the complaints and remedy some of the problems. But overall I’d rather watch the anime trilogy again over this, just saying. Spoiler section: I like how they combined the concept of kiryu with the design of the original mechagodzilla. If we get to see more of him in season 2 he might be my new favorite version of mechagodzilla.
True fans have different taste and can admit they like one piece of godzilla media and don't like another piece of godzilla media. Just because you're a fan, doesn't mean you have to like everything
By default a True fan will give even the horrendous show a pass because it caters to them. True fans never help break even. It's always the casuals. Hence why so many Disney products are making less & less money.
While I understand that there were very few kaiju versus kaiju moments in the show, that's still more than the original Godzilla had. Part of Godzilla's appeal to me is just the sheer diversity of the genres that the series covers. heck, even withing subsets like the monster verse, you look at Godzilla 2014 and Godzilla versus Kong (I haven't seen GxK Yet, but from the trailers it seems to lean even more towards the action and spectacle side of the franchise, and that's OK) And aside from Godzilla looking similar in both, they might as well be two separate incarnations of the character. And we've always had such crazy variations in tone, The first movie in the showa era was a dark and foreboding piece about the dangers of nuclear weapons and their repercussions, then latter we've got Godzilla fighting a golden three headed dragon and space chicken controlled by aliens from a tower that also looks like Godzilla. In the 2000s, Godzilla went from being a villain, a collection of angry spirits who wanted revenge for the horrors they experienced during WWII, to just three years later Godzilla is an anti-hero who saves humanity from more alien controlled monsters. Just recently there was Minus One and GxK, and all over the internet people were comparing the two as if we hadn't already had incredibly thought provoking, emotional Godzilla movies followed by big, explosive, action packed ones! Godzilla has had this diversity of subject matter from the start, and that's great! I got so carried away going on that little rant that I almost forgot my main point. I didn't mind the lack of kaiju battles in this one, nor did I mind that there was a lot of science talk.
Despite the medium of animation having so many possibilities in what it can produce, the animes have somehow done less with the kaiju than the live action films. I don’t even understand how that’s possible.
This show made my head hurt and not in a good way. I appreciated the exposition heavy nature of Shin Godzilla because it was counterbalanced by extremely snappy editing and some of the best solo kaiju scenes I have ever seen in a movie let alone the Godzilla franchise. This show just completely fails to balance the talking scenes with ANYTHING to hold your interest. Almost every kaiju sequence comes and goes way too quickly in relation to multiple minutes of phone screens, texting, and exposition dumps every episode. The one sequence I remember liking was the spiders vs Jet Jaguar but (as stated in this review) the entire sequence meant nothing to the story and didn't add anything. Everything else is just vague recollections and I have no real intention on ever watching this again
Admittedly, when I first saw the show, I didn't think it was bad, but the science stuff was way too much. After a second and third viewing, I appreciate the approach, but let's face it; the show is just too smart for its own good. Plus, calling this godzilla for a godzilla fan, is rather insulting. This is not godzilla. If this were called the Jet jaguar show, it might have worked better. There is enough for a sequel, but I'm not sure if you could (or even should) pull it off given how it was written. The writer is going to have to expand 9n principles that were established here, or just go an adjacent direction with different characters.
I think alot of people are saying in some round about way "I can't understand it, so it's bad" and its kinda silly. Just because YOU didn't understand it. Doesn't mean the show is objectively bad.
In fact, it just means that the show is bad. If most people, fans of kaiju-themed, say that the show does not cope with its genre duty, then that's the way it is. The series can be smart and entertaining at the same time, and this cannot be said about Singular Point. (Sorry for the bad English, I use a translator)
@@ipattikuoloratti8643 I personally disagree. Main reason, every person who I watched it with who are all godzilla fans. Found it entertaining and thought provoking. And that does mean something. Either we were to dumb to think it's bad, which I can confirm isn't true (as like every other person I watched it with, are very critical of media). Or were to smart and only we can understand it. Which is very much so valid and trying to refute that would be like saying, every single Movie/TV Show critics liked more than the general public are objectively bad. Or and even worse take would be saying "your opinion isn't valid, because I think it's bad and only my opinion matters" which is pretty much the same thing as "I didn't get it, so it's bad". Essentially whether you know it or not. Your defending both entitlement and that being dumb is a somehow a bad thing (which it isnt) so people should react by over reacting and ignoring other people's opinions.
@@do1phin248 Okay, perhaps such a polarity of opinions is generally caused by another problem, namely, that the anime format and a similar way of presenting information and plotting is not suitable for the entire audience. After all, many people don't watch anime for this reason. Perhaps, for some people, the moments with explanations were too hasty, which is why the audience did not have time to think about the information. Therefore, I agree that the show is not bad, but, probably, the pace does not suit everyone.
@@ipattikuoloratti8643 Yes I do agree with this. I do remember times where I was like "wow a lot just happened" didn't really affect my comprehension, but still kinda noticeable.
It is objectively *not the show I wanted* which doesn't mean it's "objectively bad" but it _does_ mean that I don't like it. I am happy for all the people who do like the show, the artwork and end credits are certainly well done. My ideal Godzilla show would be in the style of Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal; G-Man would wander around doing stuff and getting into situations. Doesn't need human characters or dialogue.
This is my first time watching anything Godzilla & I liked the show, but when it came to the science rants I just tuned it out (mostly) & still was able to fallow the story. It's hard to trust if a show will use real science or just made some BS up that the show will eventually use to side step things like how Jet Jaguar can just become Godzilla size. I feel like a lot of the dialogue could be cut to a 3rd of it's length & use that time to explore other parts of the world like why is this Godzilla pissed off. Although I liked the the characters they didn't seem smart to me, just mindlessly following a predetermined path that left me asking why are they doing this? No one really reacted to the discovery of giant monsters, they just continued to do what they normal would have done. In the first episode they spend way too much time just to say "here is a problem light & we don't know what it is". They did the same thing in Venture Bros episode 2, but that was done to show that the protagonist is a failed scientist.
I would just like to say if this wasn't called Godzilla I wouldn't been disappointed. It felt like Godzilla 2014 all over again and to much time peredox stuff going on.
I gotta say.. this review kinda completely misses the point of so much of this series. JJ’s whole deal mirrors his original journey in Vs. Megalon while expanding on it.
I almost loved this show. An almost identical plot, with the sane characters and monsters, but actual character development, a decent amount of Godzilla action, less Shin worship, and it could have been one of the all-time GOATs.
To defend Pelops travelling through time, the computer he was in was a singular point, meaning it exists in all points of time simultaneously. So Pelops wasn't really time traveling, he was just in a time traveling computer

Yeah. And i really love the fact they made it based on the apolycapse.

"Does it have something to do with Godzilla?"

Couldn't have said it better

I actually really liked Singular Point. While complicated, it did a very good job of giving us a mystery to solve.
Gabera was so hated they had to bring him back with a new name
I liked this gabera in the show i just wish we saw him more and use his power
They just copy-paste elements from Shin Godzilla and expect it to work but it makes no sense narratively or metaphorically.
its better to just have godzilla ultima then possibly get a bad shin godzilla sequel
shin godzilla stands good on its own
He cant have/ doesnt want 2 same media Godzilla. If the monsterverse dies then maybe

Favorite part of the show for me was the score. The OP and the rendition of the classic Godzilla theme were definite highlights. as for the monster designs, they're ok.
For me. It wasn’t bad, it was just confusing.
Same like seriously the “super computers” were literally worm holes.
@@BRAINFOXINFINITEnever let him cook ever again
I wish Matt Frank's Godzilla neo got an animated series
Wasn’t that more like his passion project?
“Singular point”? I think they mean “way too many points”
I think that a killer anime series for Godzilla would have been something based in the prequel novels of the anime trilogy movie

I loved singular point, it had shin godzilla vibes and the science and character parts where interesting to me.
I kinda love this shows. It’s really crazy, the designs are great, it’s characters are fun to watch and I love it!
What characters? They are just exposition dumps, they start as characters then devolve into "science bitches!" Too much fake science talk
yea this series is kinda confusing with the entire plot but hey ANGUIRUS AND MANDA HADN'T APPEARED SINCE 2004! while jet jaguar APPEARED LAST IN 1974!
At its over-simplest, the whole series is a riff on the explanation from GvsMegalon that JJ programmed himself to grow larger, and how that could possibly happen (namely transdimensional computers made of exotic material existing outside time: all the kaiju are these abstract math computers competing against each other in disagreement about how to solve a deadly problem, except for JJ who instead are two abstract computers cooperating together to solve the same problem.)
That said, it's verrrrrry much an acquired taste.
I mean I loved the new designs and I liked the show loads characters could be better I just liked the references in the credits and the old man guys who pilots jet Jaguar he’s funny
I really thought the show is good I never really looked into the story
I HATE Singular Point SO MUCH. it just completely sucks. and I'm a huge Godzilla fan.
Personally i love singular point because of the whole science theme, i just really enjoyed the talking and theoretical stuff about time itself, dimensions and somehow codes aswell
Another thing i really like is the designs this show demonstrates all throughout itself, i personally think that these animalistic designs are kinda realistic and i like them for that, they have a TON of really realistic traits that could easily find in an actual animal.
I loved the show anyways even tho it has a lot of flaws, they kinda hinted for a season 2 but they never actually did, i hope they do tho, maybe they can save the show with that
Sorry if there was any misspells my first language isnt english.
Rodan also was done dirty here by litteraly dying to rain.
finally a new animated show for him to review please dont suffer when watching these
I wasn't sure what to expect from this show when I first started it, but now that I've finished it; What the hell was any of that?

I love the 4D wacky physics of Singular Point. It's a good show, though it is a bit talk-heavy. I still really enjoyed it.
12:35 what the song
Its somewhat hinted at in the first episode that Yun and Mei were in some kind of a relationship over the internet. It’s not clear if they just like picking each other’s brains or if they are romantically interested. I lean more towards the idea of them basically being online lab partners. If I’m remembering correctly Mei was also wanting to meet Yun in episode 1 which is why they finally meet in episode 13.
I still don't see why people think the plot is confusing, Its pretty simple, its not like the quantum physics aren't simplified
I am the intended audience, I love physics and over explained science and I love Godzilla being an incomprehensible being
Godzilla vs king ghidorah is a better confusing Godzilla story than singular point
as boring and confusing as this show was, i will admit that it has a really good godzilla design....when he's given time to be on screen that is.
old video but i adore singular point, it has flaws but as a person whos grown up with the western godzilla(heroicish or based in scientific biology).
Singular point was soo damm disappointing only the ending credit was the only good thing. Its need more action and monster.
It says much about a show if the only satisfying part of it is a post-credit scene that is basically just cheap fan service.
unlike for everyone else i guess, singular point dumped completly on netflix in germany. i binge watched the entire show in one evening to night. i feel like the story and kaiju had a lot of potential, but things were massively overcomplicated or cut weirdly. i had to go back one episode and pay close attention to notice Li actually kicking the bucket... what i actually liked were the mosnter designs tho. having a whole bunch of different monsters roam around, be it the two rhodan variants, the evolution of godzilla, salunga or anguirus, i enjoyed them on the screen. the CG didnt look as bad as it could have... like those pesky weird flying drake things from the anime trilogy...
im not angry or mad i watched it, but in the end i know i wont really give it another whole watch soon...
also if anyone wants to know, the german dub is pretty good. shows often suffer from the same B cast everytime, but this one was dubbed actually pretty good
Would have been real cool if they'd finally make a show _about_ the monsters.
I'd have Genndy Tartakovsky do it.
Monarch Legacy of Monsters is much better than Singular Point! I actually understood the science behind Axis Mundi without getting a headache!
Not at all, Mlom is shit this is far better and more interesting with actually good characters, Unlike Mlom with cringey characters and bad storyline
Only good thing in that show was the past trio story
I will grant this video the highest honor I can bestow: I'll watch it while eating my dinner. Thanks for the video!
maybe i was just watching it late but this show made no sense to me.
This show sounds horrible, ima watch it
My biggest problem is that, Godzilla needs to be the reason the show really easy to say that this show could work without any mention of Godzilla, Godzilla needs to be the reason the show is the show, he should not be able to be replaced
I agree.
My ideal Godzilla show would be in the style of Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal; G-Man would wander around doing stuff and getting into situations. Doesn't need human characters or dialogue.
Still better than the boring twilight movie
are you a time traveller from 2012
@@keebeenacho2287 yeah for real
@@keebeenacho2287 lol
Singular point is underrated!
Trully
I absolutely love the 1st episode I could feel the balmy summer air, it brought out a feeling of nostalgia. To me the entire series is a master piece
2:16 i like how he hasn’t noticed that the monster artwork on the wall is hedorah
I personally loved singular point though I have some criticism like I wish there were more 2d shots of the kaiju and I wish some more side characters got more screen time. But otherwise it messed up my brain in just the way I like it
It is so fricking boring.
Jet Jaguar pp hahahahah
Bro went through everything & I'm... I'm still... I'm... What...? WHATS HAPPENING 🤣
There will be much less people hating S2 if it ever gets made
25:38 Perhaps they needed to upgrade their security with today's sponser NordVPN. LOL
Also, Mei is best girl. :D
honestly, i really loved this show, i think is really good sci-fi (maybe not what people wanter that from a godzilla show?)
and also the OP is top tier
Ngl man the opening song hits hard
I think the show is ok, I just turned off my brain. All the science think rolled over like a smooth stone.
I gave it a high 7/10
it does have too many characters, and it is somewhat rushed, and some of the 3d is kind of jank, but I loved a lot more than I hated.
Spoiler section:
I like how they combined the concept of kiryu with the design of the original mechagodzilla. If we get to see more of him in season 2 he might be my new favorite version of mechagodzilla.
Some people just are not godzilla fans true fan loves every movie😞
Not going to lie the only reason I watch God's singular point was because Godzilla's Atomic breath looked cool
godzilla s.p is very worst animation show because godzilla ultima and jet jetguar is very ugly worst designe.
what i think nobodys talked about is jet jaguar's eyes look crazy, and i like it
this made Godzilla Earth look so much better than this JOKE😂
Jet Jaguar (Singular Point) for Super Robot Wars.
While Godzilla SP isn't a bad show, it's not my "cup of tea" especially the really confusing science the show use.
I agree the science was just too hard for me to understand
Thanks to Netflix shutting down there animation department we may not get a season 2
I almost loved this show. An almost identical plot, with the sane characters and monsters, but actual character development, a decent amount of Godzilla action, less Shin worship, and it could have been one of the all-time GOATs.
Singular point makes sense if you binge it
Genially like it but maybe liked the jet Jacular design.
They’re is too much rodan they should lesson down the Romans L O L.
Yeah so probably the next season will be a rebuilt jet jaguar maybe a baby Godzilla or Mechagodzilla
