Ahh, The Jeff Parker/Kev Walker RAFT (prison) Thunderbolts, that run was one of the best Thunderbolts run aside from Ellis/Gage and Andy Diggle’s Black Ops Thunderbolts
She really should have been in The Marvels. Maybe not as the main antagonist, but that movie could have been a good way to introduce a pre-Moonstone Karla Sofen in the MCU.
Fun fact: there is a Moonstone Easter Egg in the Spider-man PS4 video game. I believe it is near the beginning of the game, in Doc Ock's lab. There is a therapist note belonging to Octavius, signed by "Karla Sofen".
This now makes me believe that Moonstone is the secret mastermind behind the Spider Man PS4 story, since she would be giving Octavious purposely bad therapy
I like Moonstone's speech to Zemo as to why she didn't join his world domination plan. It's because pretending to be heroes to scam everyone was a good gig that they could've kept going for a long time, and she was offended that he wasted it on a world domination scheme. "Who CARES about ruling the world?! Who wants to do that much WORK?"
Funny that it took about 20 to 30 years for people to really make use of the character, otherwise, she'd be a Hulk/Captain Marvel villain that appears every so often.
That was the case for the main characters of Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza’s Thunderbolts the whole team (save for Moonstone, who kinda became more like Starscream in the OG animated Transformers) they were 2nd tier supervillains, conducting a ruse pretending to be heroes, but overtime became heroes in spite of themselves. And throughout the series with the various different writers and artists at the helm of the series (except for the Red Hulk Thunderbolts, they kinda don’t count*) over the course of The Thunderbolts there two key constants, Change (there have been a lot of members on The Thunderbolts) and Redemption which has been a staple throughout Thunderbolts, and unofficial spin offs “Superior Foes of Spider Man” (you discover Boomerang and Shocker are not so bad after all) and Ant Man (the Nick Spencer run {the female Beetle} and that Asgard centered event series Giant Men {Atlas who redeemed himself after the events of Jim Zub’s Thunderbolts (the one with The Winter Soldier and Kobik)} ) 😮💨 exhaustive post I know, and I’m sorry.
Little correction: Val Cooper is also a therapist but as far we know shes not really good at it since Samson call her out for her wildly incorrect psychological evaluation of the X-factor members and herself says she was very wrong in thinking that Mystique and Spiral were rehabilitation cases.
@stevencooper564 in her defense it was the 80s she just went from working for Reagan to Clinton she was trying to be a feminist and democrat while also doing a lot of cocaine. She saw two morally questionable cunty queens walking into a government agency and thought "now it's a real office".
OMG, Val would be perfect for a relaunched Thunderbolts that are under the auspices of the CSA. The interaction between Val Cooper and Moonstone would be comic gold.
@@stevenhedge2850 What Karla Sofen did to poor Robbie in the beginning of Andy Diggle’s run in Thunderbolts (appropriately named “Burning down the House”) would have warranted Karla Sofen getting her Ph.d and license to practice Psychiatry pulled…and then some (imo Diamondback {the female one from Captain America, and Avengers The Initiative} should have been in the Thunderbolts post Dark Reign. With the mean streak that character has, she should have dealt with Moonstone, then Moonstone would have discovered Songbird wasn’t so bad to deal with after all)
The original Thunderbolts were one of my favorite comic teams. I only discovered them during the Civil War event, but their backlog is filled with so many wild storylines, and many of the OG cast underwent some wild arcs, transforming them from 1-dimensional villains to interesting anti-heros. The exception is Moonstone, who never changes from manipulative homicidal sociopath.
Man, the og T-Bolts are such a gem. It is kinda fun that the ones who are more consistently villains stick to their original aliases whereas the ones who more fully embraced heroism permanently took on their heroic monickers (or some derivative in Abe’s case)
@mrmayo5905 Yeah, Songbird became one of my favorites, and though Zemo never became "heroic," he developed this attitude of wanting to prove his superiority by being more effective than them, kind of a precursor to Superior Spider-Man
@@PainCausingSamurai That is probably the best description I have read about Baron Zemo, he was so mishandled when Matt Rosenberg had Zemo and an adhoc team of Thunderbolts go after Punisher at the behest of Kingpin. Zemo should be have said to Kingpin, “I have a problem, you’re running things, bye” and attacked Kingpin from there.
Moonstone would honestly be a great Iron Man villain, especially for like a standalone tv show in a separate continuity: childhood friend of Tony Stark whose parents worked for his family, has a quiet resentment of his wealth and status, and is now a toxic therapist who can manipulate him like crazy is a perfect storm imo
Karla should have been in "The Marvels" as Kamala's or Monica's psychiatrist/counselor to discuss the traumas of The Blip. Dar-Ben should have been after The Nega Bands but the flunkies under her employ were powered by The Moonstones on their suits, which ultimately get knocked off in a fight and picked up by Karla. Then we don't see her for the rest of the movie. But her gaining powers is alluded to in the mid-credits scene.
Just a fancast moment, but imagine Sophie Thatcher as Moonstone? Haven't seen all her work, but the work I've seen is pretty spectacular. Heretic showed she can play cunning and controlled, and she's got a good bit of horror experience, so could be interesting to see how you can leverage that. And her turn in Book of Boba Fett showed she can do silly action stuff.
And I do think that the time and space for Moonstone to show up is a dicey trick. At this point she might be best served as a kind of villain for Kamala, leveraging her civilian identity as like, a school councilor to try to corner and manipulate Kamala. But it would have to be a series. My other thought was to do something like the Thunderbolts from the comics, but in a theoretical framework of the 50 State Initiative. Some undetermined date in the future, once the Mutants are more in play and the world feels more super than ever, the US does pulls something from the Sokovia Accords to create an official system for the organization and management of "enhanced" individuals. And within this system, a bunch of former villains start trying to weasel their way through the system to take advantage of some sort of amnesty deal that was SUPPOSED to be about forgiving "vigilantism" related charges.
@ She is def a little on the young side, but this was somewhat based on both her not showing up for YEARS at this point and Moonstone would be showing up smack dab in the middle of the Champions/Young Avengers era that is getting geared up.
Alright, we can aim the MCU as it will stand towards Moonstone. My pitch is to introduce Rogue and Mystique in a Captain Marvel 3 to work it within the mutant saga, but include Moonstone as a psychologist that gets her powers teased at the end? idk
I am first. Also I've been wondering who moonstone is for 3 days. I've been waiting for this video (because I'm too lazy to look it up). Thank you, sir , for your work.
Ehhhh, yes, and no. Moonstone does not have a twisted sense of humor like Harley Quinn, you will not see Moonstone walking two Hyenas, Moonstone is closer to Nurse Ratched from “One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, (an evil manipulative nurse/psychiatrist with no conscience at all) or the version of Harley Quinn that got introduced in the Amazon Bat Man cartoon series if that makes sense.
I don't think you could get a full on moonstoen Karla, but maybe she could work in Daredevil Born Again if it gets a S2 as just the manipulative psychologist.
I first found out about Moonstone when she eas playable in Marvel Avenger Alliance(the flash game) like back in 2011 i think I forgot how he abilities work jn that gane though, and she's one of those high-end vharacters in ehich you cannot immediately purchase, but ugh, a lootbox mechanic
