Thanks for the calm overview of these changes. The one that kills me is the extremely high percentages. You sold a sticker! Great, we’re keeping half. Half?! Yikes! Since this is a new change I will wait and see if they course correct in a few weeks. I also want to see if this helps eliminate tag spammers and thieves.

I opened my RB shop yesterday following the tips on RB dashboard, like profile pic, shop banner, social link, bio, payment info, and uploaded 16 designs. today i got the email notification that RB classified my account as premium. not sure what i done correctly but i learn the design skill from Juna, and i applied it to RB, Teepublic.
Those designs are actually the same with my Teepublic account, but currently my Teepublic account still classified as Apprentice (shop opened for 1 week), and i've followed all the correct way for setting up the account.
What i like is that RB hold the newly opened shop, after they review, they will notify which category you are in, after that your shop will go live. but for Teepublic, they just assigned apprentice for a new store, i do not know if i still get the chance to move up to Artisan category

Great video, Juna, a nice antidote to some of the hysteria I've seen on certain other channels! I've left feedback today asking RB to publish the precise criteria for each tier and suggesting that accounts which make very small amounts of money each month should be exempt from fees. Beyond that, I'm just going to wait and see how things pan out.

If you are fee sensitive, Etsy might not be a good choice. They charge 20 cents for each listing (which doesn't sound like a lot for one listing but it can really add up fast when you're uploading a lot of designs) and then you have to renew the listings every 4 months for another 20 cents each. They also have fees when you sell. And while running ads is optional, but it can be a way to get your listing seen higher up in the search results. And the ad fees and listing fees are due whether or not you make any sales at all.

Basically, create xx amount of products, if they don't sell for that 0.20 fee then ditch what doesn't work, and make more of what works. I am confounded by the paradoxical occurrence that one of my most successful accounts, adorned with a Fan-artist emblem and boasting an impressive catalogue of 1880 designs, has been subject to suspension, despite having amassed a substantial 11.5K sales. In stark contrast, my second account, which is meagre in both content and performance, with only 24 designs and a solitary sale to its name, has been bestowed with a premium tier. Such an incongruous situation has left me in a state of perplexity and bewilderment.

Well, I think it is because, we all know, that 80-90% of the stuff, on RB, is garbage, and rarely makes a sale, so how would they get any money from that. They are putting stores, who make consistent sales, into that category, because that is the only way to get money from this. The 80-90% of people rarely make one sale, so they're going after the people who are making consistent sales. They won't go after the people who are featured as their "feature artists," but they will go after someone who is making consistent sales, and who is making them a lot of money, because that 80-90% hasn't made them a dime, and are just filling their site with garbage. I see misspelled words, and the same graphics over and over, being used on RB, so, I believe, they will take from people, such as yourself, because it's the only way to make money from this stupid idea.

I've heard this exact thing from many other multiple account designers.
RB Is cash-starved and trying to make quick money. They stick a big account in standard and take that 37% fee off of a much bigger pie. And what happens if that big account can't afford to just de-platform?
Looks like a lot of small, new accounts are being put in premium.

As RB are so poor at monitoring what gets added to the site you may well find copycats selling your uploads anyway! So I stopped Etsy because it wasn't passive enough for me. I have a 9-5 and I need PODs that at are more set it and forget it. Etsy takes a lot of work. You have to answer messages, create mockups, do customer service... it's a lot more work and the more designs I add the more work I added to myself it was not scalable for the time I had. I got sales but I knew it was not sustainable for me with a 9-5 and my other PODs. I also didn't like having to keep track of all my sales individually. So it was mainly a time thing.

Sadly people who auto upload crap to multiple platforms are the ones to thank. They upload, endless crappy designs and don't consider the platform they are uploading to. Amazon, Zazzle, Merch, Redbubble , Etsy are all cleaning house, closing accounts and making it harder to make money, not because they want to penalize the sellers but they want to get rid of the people who do NOT CARE about the quality of their work, and are just blindly uploading ugly designs and not going into fix their listings to make them look professional. So thank you makers of automated uploading tools, we have YOU to thank for this, IMHO.. I predicted this would happen several years ago when Automated uploaders became the rage. I said they would destroy the good thing we had, and here it is.

Your comment raises a good point. The auto uploading of "scaled" designs such as "Worlds Greatest (X)" is likely a problem for Redbubble (or their goals for the biz). They reduced the number of uploads from 50 per account to 30 a few months ago. I suspect that was due to the many auto uploaders that dump designs each day into the system.

I'm in the premium level. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens. I won't be unloading like crazy though just in case I do have to delete my store in the future. I am nervous they will do this to Teepublic where I seem to do much better on.

    • @drjonesey5
      @drjonesey5 Год назад +3

Unless you have a highly targeted shop that is successful 275 designs is beyond nothing. Believe it or not you are the average Redbubble uploader that has caused this to some degree. RB had about 2 millions designers and most of them don't make much money at all but it cost RB lots of money to have all these designs up on their website via server space and potential risk for infringement etc. The only shops with 200 designs or so that are highly successful are RUclipsr/Influencer shops, good designers who joined RB when it started so had first mover advantage and people who have multiple shops that already mastered RB so know what designs sell and how to boost it up to Page 1 when searched that also Mastered SEO on RB. If you're not one of these groups, having 275 and "waiting it out" is as useless as having 0 designs and not working on the shop, it's a lose lose. There's people who make $10,000 a year on RB which is success but not the actual success you can get on RB or Teepublic, Etsy, Amazon etc. That's beginner success or lazy success.
I watch a RUclipsr who makes Thousands on RB per month because he had 17 shops, and just sold I believe 8 in a bundle for like $170k to someone. I am 100% sure that's more success than anybody subscribed here including myself. If you want REAL success on RB it takes full dedication and Scale, same with TeePublic. You need thousands of designs which is not impossible. And these RB rules are nothing to be scared of at all, if you ain't making much money, you still ain't with a Standard account. If you ARE making lots of money, then the fee will be a small % for you. So what is everyone freaking out about? I don't agree with the policy/fees but it's not something to run from. You make $100 a month and you'll make like $50, $1000 a month and you'll make like $900, $10,000 a month and you make like $9,100 after the fee and it only impacts you if you actually make money so you're not paying RB out of pocket you're paying from profit. Why are you guys scared? it doesn't make sense to me.
Go scale your shops and be successful already. If you make $1000 a month in 1 shop that is minor success. That's not going to change your life. $1000 across 10 shops will because that's 6 figures a year or $3000 across 4 shops will because that's 6 figures a year, That's real success that I think we all want but we're not doing it because we're being lazy and complacent with minor success. if you can make money doing POD, you can make more money doing POD, it just take scale.

It also seems REALLY arbitrary who is ending up in which category. Some high sellers are in Standard. It breaks my heart to nuke my stores, but I just did my taxes and saw I'm still operating in the red when I consider what I pay for things like Canva, Kittl, and Creative Fabrica. I did better than the previous year and was hoping this year would be when I'd see a profit. No way am I going to voluntarily put myself in a deeper hole. Some people have suggested making your designs private for now. If people want to wait and see, that seems to me the better option.

    Hi Juna!
in your experience, what and when is the best type and time to use different options of garments from the same category provided by printing services such as printify, for example, t-shirts Gildan 2000 vs Gildan 5000 vs Gildan 64000, differences are mostly in weight and material, does this matter for customers or it doesn't really make a difference?
also, can you kindly help me out with the (universal) px sizes and resolutions of things - or rather what is accustomed in the pod business - for example, t-shirts, stickers, coloring books, patterns etc.
or if it cant be easily covered in a comment then i would love to see a video about it

The other option is to not care and make more money via scaling shops. They are only taking 30% or more from folks who are standard and not making much money. They are not taking 30% from anyone with the other 2 accounts nor anyone making great money on RB. Most folks make less than $100 on RB per month which is why they are doing this as most folks on RB are not producing much or any revenue for them but make up the bulk of the designs on their server space which cost money. There are like 2 million Designers on RB. If you make $5000 a month they ain't taking 30%, if you make $500 or more they only take $92. Are we really going nuts for $92 if we make decent money on RB? Most won't even get $92 taking because most don't even make $500 a month on RB.
If I was making $50 a month on RB and thy took 50%, I wouldn't care, I wasn't making anything really in the first place and once I hit $500 it's only $92 which is fine by me. if you make $1000 per month, it's still only $92. If you make a lot, it's a small %, if you don't make much, ok, you still not making much anyway.

This change motivates me to upload more on Redbubble and to become more active there. I know a lot of people hate this change and I understand their point of view, especially if it has a negative impact on their business. But for me, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I've been on Redbubble for around three years, and I quickly learned I hated the environment, what with all the spamming and thieving and low-quality designs drowning out those that try to do it right etc. So, I was very inactive and in my time there I've only ever uploaded less than 200 designs. I visited my account once every few months and my designs are mostly original artwork. In fact, I mostly just visited to see if someone was stealing any of my designs from Amazon Merch. I've been placed in the premium tier, so I know sales are not the one criterion that will keep you out of standard tier, since I've done very little in sales. But I do check off the other requirements (unique original designs, follow the rules - no spamming, I don't make cheap copycats of other design, I don't infringe). So for me, I feel like I'll invest some more time to see if I enjoy it better. Redbubble did say that once you're in the premium or pro tiers it is unlikely you will ever find yourself moved to the standard tier. That makes me think they're using the standard tier as a gateway to filter out some accounts that won't (or can't) fit into their new standards. Of course, I may be wrong, and they might just have gone bat-shit crazy, but only time will tell. 🤷‍

You don't have to elaborate, but if you can share what you think may have caused this difference, please let us know.

Not necessary driving traffic to your own designs. It’s working for “the Man.”

I meet all the requirements to be Premium, my profile is complete (social media, covers, etc), I have 100 unique designs created by me from scratch (not copying anyone), I have social accounts (Instagram, facebook, pinterest) and I drive traffic to them, never had a problem following their community guidelines and yet they put me on Standard tier!
Those fees are crazy high in addition to product prices! But the most absurd thing is that there are many users in the comments on videos like this, that say they have like 5 designs and don't have sales and they are Premium! I'm so mad right now thanks for pointing out the survey I'm gonna hit them hard.

I have no emotions 😂 I just don't want to influence the audience... people should decide on their own... it's a big decision

We should all increase our prices by 40% or 50% that's will probably affect negatively the whole platforme income and then...( if they are smart enough to see that ) they will make the situation back as it was

The problem with their murky tier system is they could keep bestselling accounts on Standard just to milk their earnings and there's nothing anyone could do about it.

unfortunately l'm not bothered with what RB is currently going trough as my account got suspended 2 days ago for no reason whatsoever. l never tagspammed, never violated their TOS on copyrights or other things. And was selling there for 3 years without ever getting a designs removed. l know the TOS for POD pretty well after doing it for 3 years and still have no clue why l got suspended. l'm not bothered with them, l hope they go bankrupt, and the way they are treating their sellers, that's only a matter of time, FU Redbubble

It looks like the best option is to make more sales. The more sales you make the less you pay. And the ones that sell less will pay more. Solution: sell over 500 dolars. Simple. 😂

It seems like more and more subscriptions are doing this. Upping the price and added an extra income.

They asked us to create fan art in accordance with the rules of their corporate partners, so I created my own fan art and tagged it in accordance with their rules. Woke up this morning to an all out ban. No thanks. I'm done with them
