Johnny is such a humble guy, love his playing and character. If you’re ever feeling cocky about your playing, listen to him and he’ll serve you a nice slice of humble pie.
Exactly, and he's clearly very grateful for what he has and where he is in life. People are just bitter and jealous unfortunately and don't like to see someone living the dream.
My god, this man has to be the most loveable person I have ever seen :) I don't even mind him advertising for all the stuff. He genuinly likes what he plays. Bless him, man!
He's like a NASCAR guy promoting his sponsors! Met Johnny at a NAMM show. He couldn't have been a nicer, more humble guy. He sat and talked and was so generous with his time. I'm a totally weak player but he offered to just sit and play with me just for fun. Made me feel like a million bucks.
Gotta love Johnny. Spent a day with him and his wife a few years ago at the Dallas Guitar Show, and in addition to being an amazing player he's probably one of the nicest people on earth. One thing's for certain, if you want a product endorsed - get to him. Been watching these rundowns for years and never heard anyone thank his nail salon and God in one episode. Great stuff!
Johnny "I don't need no stinking B-Bender" Hiland. Man, what a player! And a sweet guy to boot. A lot of people think strength is about acting tough and uncaring but it takes WAY more strength to remain positive, kind and supportive to others, esp when we feel like crap or we're stressed or like Johnny, we have physical impairments. That's when we really show what we're made of.
I could listen to this guy talk gear all day long! He seems like a real down to earth person and very passionate about what he does! Definitely a new person who'll inspire me to be my best!
This was probably the easiest rig rundown John has ever done. Some folks John has to really pull into out of. Johnny here couldn't be more happy and excited to talk gear. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Over the years it has become clear that humility is not only a wonderful virtue, but also practically a certification of real talent, whatever the craft.
#1 on my bucket list is shake this young man’s hand and just say hi. And holly jeez, has there ever been any man who plays with such effortless fluidity? It’s as if he has Teflon ball bearings in his fingers. Mr. Hiland is second to none.
Johnny Hiland is one of the most humble guys I have ever seen,to be as talented as Johnny is,it is refreshing these days to have someone like Johnny, hope he's around for a long time.
Who could dislike this guy. He just puts a smile on your face while talking and at the same time is clearly extremely knowledgeable about his stuff, also an amazing guitar player.
Johnny's awesome. You know exactly what you're going to get, as he's a complete walking advertisement, but he's a phenomenal player and comes across as a lovely guy.
+Martin Cliffe I know, right? Dude always plugs everyone he works with. I'm surprised he doesn't plug the people that sells him his clothing. I find it admirable, though. I think it's less of him wanting something in return, but more wanting to give them more business.
If he wasn't such a great guy and jaw-droppingly good player, all the plugs would be laughably annoying. Truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet in the music business.
Correct Mirrorworld that is the point of the video! And of course he has to give props to the people who help him get those sweet tones! And we want to know about the gear and how and where to get it!
When Johnny mentioned redneck jazz explosion, my hand instinctively looked for a "like" button. Danny and Johnny are two of the most killer country players that the world has seen. RIP, Mr. Gatton.
People always asked how the hell do I listen to country!? Well, picking like this! Really is like jazz tbh - similar just with a lot of twang! There's a reason I almost exclusively reach for the ol TELE!! Johnny on a whole nother level!! Not to mention one of the nicest guys out there! Danny G would be proud! I usually won't sit through a whole one of these rig rundowns but watched the whole thing. Thanks for vid!
What a pitchman too. "I like to chew a blade of grass while I play - I chew the Johnny Hiland, Sun and Shade Mix that my friends at Scott's grow for me. You cna find it in the garden center at Home Depot"
I have no idea who this man is, but I have nothing but respect for his communication skills. Just listening to him makes me just kind of lay back and relax, kind of like a restoration in humanity type of vibe.
Been watching Rig Rundown for many years and they just keep getting better and better. John Bohlinger has the perfect personality for these. Keep 'em long! Thank you!
I'm not into country music, but this guy is amazing. He's got all the skills, plus grace and great attitude! Nice chat these two had about guitars and rig.
I met Johnny one night in Nashville at Robert's Western World down on Broadway. I walked out of Jack's bbq and heard someone just totally blistering the guitar. I walked on down to Tootsie's and it was so packed in there and the band totally sucked. I walked back down to Robert's, walked in and my jaw about hit the floor. There was like 5 people in the whole bar. I watched as Johnny played the most amazing guitar licks my ears have ever heard. I waited till his set was over and went and talked to him. Nicest guy on the planet and so appreciative. Johnny is honestly one of the best guitar players on the planet and such a nice guy. He is Nashville's hidden jem! Kudos to you Johnny! God bless you buddy!
I could listen to and watch Johnny talk and play all day. What a lovely, humble and spiritually aware guy... and a ridiculously great guitarist. God bless him... love exudes from every pore of his body.
ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARISTS WHO HAS WALKED THIS EARTH WITH A SIX STRING ON HIS BACK ! Take your Vai's , Satches , Petruccis , Bonammas etc etc nobody does every thing like Johnny can . Bless you brother !!!
One of the best premier guitar videos to watch, Johnny drops so many names in every part of the music industry. Not to mention a hell of a nice guy and a phenomenal guitar player.
An Amazing player and a class act!! This was one of my FAVORITE Rig videos and I'm not even that into country music!! What an Awesome enthusiastic dude!!
If I had a list of only 5 legends that I could meet before I died, Mr Hiland would be on of them. Such a genuine, lovable, humble sweet man.....and so ridiculously talented. Bless you man !
Such a talent, nice he remembers and talks about ALL the companies/people who's helped him along the way, most musicians are all about themselves , you Are blessed Mr Hiland 👏👏👏👏
Wow! Mr Hiland's musicality is off the charts!! After that rig rundown I feel like I've gone through at least three magazines worth of advertising. He remembers to mention every product and company a couple of times, maybe too many. :)
I often like to drink tea whilst watching rig run downs and when I do, I like to drink Tetley English breakfast from my buddies mark and Pete over there in Yorkshire at the tetley plant. Great product!
Johnny is probably the best player I have discovered on RUclips (other than Paul Gilbert, but that was about a decade ago!). Johnny is a lovely guy and a fantastic and versatile player, and he and John 5 are responsible for turning me on to chicken picking. I want to see Johnny up there with the big names like Satch, Vai, Gilbert, Johnson... in fact I'd like to see him do a G3 tour in the future with Satch and Vai... Imagine what Johnny would bring to the G3 concept with his style and versatility!!
Easily one of the most interesting Rig Rundowns, Wow. Covered everything. John Bohlinger does a great job letting the artist go into detail. Really worth the watch.
Wow. I think is my favorite rig rundown ever. Not only is Johnny so amiable and generous here, but we get to appreciate plenty of awesome technique from a real master of the instrument. Phenomenal.
+Michael Newman There's an older video, where he's doing some chicken picking and then turns on the distortion and starts shredding VH songs, plus his vision is very bad,he's legally blind!
Amazing how he can recall all the names of companies, people, places, models, dates and, places of all that stuff. Not even a slight hesitation on anything. Amazing man !
Man what a class act. I'll be honest, I had heard of Johnny before but never really checked him out prior to this rig rundown. What a nice guy...he's so personable that I'd like him even if he couldn't play a lick. But, alas...he can! So talented, so humble and so friendly. Not to mention, I've seen almost every rig rundown in existence and this is the only one I can think of where the artist takes the time to thank the companies that he's been blessed to work with and be sponsored by. I wish Johnny all the success in the world and hope I can see him live in the flesh in the very near future.
My favorite rig rundown. Not bc he's my favorite guitarist or it's my favorite music but bc hes a really humble nice and grateful guy and absolutely loves guitars. I'm glad they sent Jon B to cover this one too
He mentions Hendrix and 80's Rock and then I just imagine him stood there with his guitar next to Hendrix and Eddie VH in their prime and I die laughing but that's what is so cool about this guy he has incredible hands and the slide style playing is brilliant. A genius player with no pomp, gimmicks or bull crap. I'm now a fan.
Even shouted out his Vietnamese nail technician. Legend.
Oh yeah baby
@@Guitargate thank you for the introduction to this guy, tornado of a player
Lots of respect for such a humble and incredibly talented player.
Johnny is such a humble guy, love his playing and character. If you’re ever feeling cocky about your playing, listen to him and he’ll serve you a nice slice of humble pie.
I love when nice guys are at the top of their field
me too!!!
I thought the same exact thing! What a class act.
Dude I went to Atlanta Institute of Music a decade ago, and Johnny came and did a clinic. He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
Super cool guy and a monster guitar picker!
on the roof,, so on top literally !! lol
people keep saying Johnny's a walking advert , but the whole idea of this show is to show off your gear and the people who have supported ypu.
I was thinking the same, so informative - won over a new fan in me
Exactly, and he's clearly very grateful for what he has and where he is in life. People are just bitter and jealous unfortunately and don't like to see someone living the dream.
EVERYONE in ANY profession can attest to the fact that other people turn other people on to previously unknown shit.
You only get there when your that good though lol, I agree with you 100 percent
The fact that he shares his air time with the people who helped him is definitely a mark in his favor.
My god, this man has to be the most loveable person I have ever seen :) I don't even mind him advertising for all the stuff. He genuinly likes what he plays. Bless him, man!
The 'advertising' seems totally OK in a rig rundown...if we weren't into gear we'd be watching something else :-)
He had me at Phillydelphia.
HE IS GREAT I JUST WORRY ABOUT HIM BEING OVERWEIGHT AND WHY HE OR SOMEONE CAN'T HELP HIM ?????IT'S A MYSTERY TO ME.

To be fair, the whole point of the video is to showcase his gear. It is Rig Rundown after all.
Of course. And I'm not criticizing him for being like that; it's quite refreshing, I just find it funny.
