The Carnivale was my first cruise! 1984 Senior trip! Had a blast!
Sailed on her twice under Thomson cruises when I was just a kid. She made me fall in love with ships and I'm still sad that she's no longer around.
Our first cruise was on the Carnivale in the late 80s. It was a ton of fun from the midnight buffet to the very formal (jacket and tie required) dinner.
Thank you for this. I was a passenger on this ship twice. When it was the Queen Anna Maria. First from Pereas to New York July 19, 1968 to August 3, 1968. Second from Boston to Pereas, November 10 , 1970 to Nov. 23?, 1970.. I rememer it fondly. There were people on board taking photos and video but I have not been able to locate anyone.
My first cruise! July 24, 1983. Miami-Samana, DR-St.Thomas, USVI-San Juan, PR-Miami.
It was a blast. The daily special drink was the Yellow Bird, $3.00.
They sold pin on buttons that you could wear on your shirt, blouse or back pack. Cost was $2.00, but folks bought them because they said we could wear the buttons in port, and not have to carry our boarding passes. Brilliant move on their part. Ordered room service one night, I was surprised to see my room steward bringing the food and drink. Thanks for posting this, glad I found it!
I was on this boat for Christmas 1985 or 86, shared an interior cabin with my 2 older brothers.
Sailed on her August of 1985. A wonderful cruise to the Bahamas. A beautiful ship to sail on. Very romantic cruise.
I was a proud passenger of the Carnivale back in summer of 1984. We went to the Bahamas and Freeport on a four day cruise! It was my first and I thoroughly enjoyed it.. Thanks for posting this history!!
This was my first cruise when I was 11. It was wonderful, I honestly think it might have been better than modern cruises. I have so many good memories from that ship, the waiter who paid special attention to me, trying (and failing) to stay up or the midnight buffet, and listening to the captain threaten to put off some teenagers who got drunk on a rum cruise and sprayed the fire extinguisher under the doors.
My best friend and I took our first cruise on the Carnivale in June 1987. 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. It was an amazing trip and I was instantly hooked. I have since sailed 4 more times on Carnival Cruises including the Fascination, Triumph, Legend, and Fantasy.
I sailed on her many years ago. My first Carnival cruise was on the Marci Gras in 1978 and my most recent cruise was last April on Cunard. Thank you for this history!
I had a great time just after this ship 🛳, with Fantasy ..... also Sensation... really great memories !!!
I visited her in 74 as Queen Anna Maria and then again in 09 or so as Topaz. She was in amazingly good condition, with remnants of her Empress of Britain days in the woodwork and art through out the ship.. She was always a favorite of mine because of the "scepter"style mast and the funnel with the reverse scoop on it..The Greek renovation in 64 kind of spoiled her balanced profile, but the new lido and the large show lounge was a good call for her continued career... She or Mardi Gras should have been saved..
Took a cruise to Bahamas on the Carnivale in April 1987.
Same in 90. Had a blast.
i liked the look at the topaz
We were on this boat for our honeymoon it nice for the time but was showing her age in 1988 looking a bit worn. We later sailed aboard the Fantasy that was impressive.

I sailed on the Carnivale in 1990 and met my husband on this ship! We married in 1992 and are planning our 30th anniversary aboard a Carnival ship
I worked as a musician on her in 1993 I miss the old school /real school music and ships of that day! I also miss all the wild times and partying we did as crew members ( had to give up drinking soon after) the company really helped teach and “make me” into the full time musician I am today!
Do you have interior photos?

Did not get the sale on the Carnival but did get to be on the Mardi Gras in 1981. Would love to see you do a video on the Mardi Gras.
I plan to make that video once the new Mardi Gras completes her maiden voyage
