Have an issue w/ the one I just received. It’s the opposite of his. The crown doesn’t want to thread back on. It hand winds and hacks. But it’s extremely hard to screw it back on.

Looks just like the laco but I kinda just want the laco
The flieger-crown is obviously a QC-dud. I have the exact same watch (only with type-b dial) and there is no problem with the crown whatsoever. The hands are indeed blued, not "blue" but blued, at least according to other reviews here on the tube (one guy even took it to his local watch-shop, and they confirmed it was blued). The 300meters and the height lends the watch an elegant ruggedness. My wrist is just short of 7 inches, and I don't find the watch oversized whatsoever. My girlfriend (with even slimmer wrists) tried it, and when she wore it, it looked even more rugged-cool. I do not find that it wears "odd" in any way. In short: apart from the obvious QC-dud, I could hardly agree less with your review of the ET Flieger. I think it's an absolute stunner, and (as another reviewer put it) "tough little bugger" at the same time. A matter of taste obviously :)
My Escapement Time flieger has just arrived and I like it. I admit that was afraid of opening the box after watching this video. But it is actually fine. Nothing wrong with hand winding. Too much water resistance? Can there be too much of it? I can't even swim, but I do believe that such a high level means higher quality seals, tighter tolerances, stronger case construction, better engineering overall. And all of that is not bad. And this one feels totally solid. Unlike some other fliegers I had tried, that were chunky and unwieldy for nothing.
I got the type A and I love it. The crown and mechanism work great - maybe we'll see with time. Also heard a lot of negative stuff about the strap - after switching with a black Maikes, I put the original back on and it feels and looks great imho
Love the strap 'fashion show' - great idea, and gives us some inspiration for different straps for these types of dials/hands. Would really like to see more of these in future if you can manage. Speaking as someone with a drawer full of bad strap choices for watches that looked good on a web page but not so much on the watch.... Also shame about the Flieger, hope you can find a 'goldilocks' example soon :-)
I think a very slim diver with quality parts (metal movement spacer especially) and a Swiss fast-ticking quartz movement would sell pretty well, especially if it has a good brand name, proportions, build quality, and PRICE!
I also got that dresswatch and it simply redefines what you can expect for this kind of money. Rather than being an outright Grand Seiko homage it rather has some King Seiko design elements in it. It actually has a little bit of brushing along the inner edge of the lugs. Cracking watch that look fantastic on one either of these blue leather straps.
Shame about the Flieger. I have the very same one and it's damn near perfect. I think you got a sour copy unfortunately. The crown action on mine is flawless, I can wind the movement forever.
Same here. I bought my type A awhile back and the crown stem functions perfectly. I concur on the extreme heft of the Flieger, but on the right strap it's not unwieldy at all. I just ordered the Quartz 40mm a few days ago. At $76.00 on Ali, it was a no brainer.
I got the exact same Flieger 3 days ago and I love it. No mechanical problems at all. Hated the strap though and replaced it with a Laco one (black with silver rivets). Looks like a pretty expensive watch now 😉
I got the "KS homage" in early summer and love it. Can't believe I've never heard of VH31 before. Seems like a brilliant quartz movement with that sweeping hand, an d makes me wonder why it seems so rarely used.
I've got the Flieger "B" with the PT5000 in it. Works a treat and is running very accurately. It does sit a bit strange to begin with but I found that after a few weeks, the strap became a bit more compliant and it sits quite well now. I have the King Seiko homage too and have fallen in love with it despite being quartz. Four ticks isn't far behind a Vostok is it. I also have the Longines Conquest Heritage homage with the Miyota 9015 series movement. That is another nice little watch. Only a 38mm but wears like a 40mm. I see that this now comes with the PT5000. Overall, I think Escapement Time are producing some nice watches. They arrived with very good accuracy so I'm wondering whether they are regulated before being dispatched. Anyway, good to see the channel back Jody. I absolutely love the reviews. Stay safe.
I have one of these Escapement Time Fliegers (Type A) like in this video, I love it! The crown and winding works perfectly fine. No complaints about the size / weight, wears comfortably for me (7.5").
I got the type B and swapped the strap for a grey rubber Barton strap. It wears very nicely. The hands have more real estate that the type A. And the loom is fantastic. It has been a true smash hit for me!
The Escapement Time Quartz really is a stunning little strap monster. Such a wonderful and beautiful watch to have ready to go at a moments notice. I do suspect it will see a lot of wrist time.
Agree, a Flieger is a Flieger, is a Flieger. I own the type B, and it's incredible value for money. I do wish it was 40mm, but Fliegers are meant to be big. Shame about the QC issue, but I prefer more water resistance than less. Dress watches aren't my thing, but that looks pretty good, albeit the strap needs swapping. Either of the first two straps look the best
I actually really, really like the quartz one. Very handsome, and they're not trying to do too much for the price. Nice one. I think the navy blue nubuck strap with the white stitching is perfect.
I purchased both the Type A and Type B with the PT-5000 movement. I haven't had any issues with the crown/winding. I didn't care much for the leather band it came with so I replaced these. I have been super impressed by both watches!
Hi Jody, just to update. I got the replacement watch from escapement time and it has exactly the same issue after using it for approx 5 minutes. Highly disappointed. Just sent a message to the seller there, we'll see what happens. In both watches i received there was an issue with the crown and stem and the threading of the crown. The rotor spins wildly when you are tightening up the crown. Oh, also the strap for the second one fell apart when I attempted to wear the watch. In other news I got the steeldive willard homage today. Really impressed. Accuracy about +6 per day and the beat error a bit high but really good for the money an the lume is just incredible. I took your advice too and got the black one with the black rubber band. Fantastic value
I got a type b Flieger from escapement time two months ago. I have a larger wrist so it wears perfectly (Flieger watches are historically big and thick watches, so it isn't an issue for me, it give it more authenticity). For my watch, the finishing isn't perfect, there are small irregularities on the brushing of the case, but still outstanding for the price. Maybe a small quality control issue here? But for the price, it's great. I didn't expect luxury quality control for less than 90 euros. I am very pleased with the watch, and I find the heated-blue hands beautiful (yes, even with the big counterbalance of the second hand). I found it wears amazing with a nato or parachute strap. I saw some people use a metal strap with this watch, and it looks really neat.
I might get shot down, but Fliegers like this do nothing for me, but on the positive a classy dress piece always gets two thumbs up 👍👍, nice to see more content from you after recent events.
It IS good, I have one, and I do not share Jody's criticism. And although there is no call for the watertightness as such, it's not a reason NOT to buy it. The San Martin fliegers also have screw down crowns btw.
I disagree with Jomw aswell. The crown works and the proportions are they same as the laco, which he recommends. Also, the stowa, has a big cantilever on the second hand. He must be having an off day
By the way Jodi, welcome back! Was shocked to hear your channel got deleted. But thankfully, by the time I heard about it (saw your video) you had been reinstated. Would've been gutted to be honest! You really awakened the latent love for horology in me...
I also have the type B. But not sure why ghost position would put people off, it's not exactly unheard of to have ghost position on a watch with no date window. Not sure why 300m water resistance would be a 'moan' from Jody either. I mean, if it's capable of 300m then it should be advertised as such...
Welcome back Jody!!!! I have the type B dial flieger and I have absolutely no complaints about it. I also like the quartz especially with the first strap you saw us!!!!!
My Typ B arrived 2 weeks ago, I am 100% satisfied, no latency, no problem with the winding position, no date (which is perfect since I cant see that for a while), however it is bigger than any of my 36-39 regular sized ones. First I thought it is too big, but hey this is a 'flieger' style watch, so it should be big. I used to it by now, love it!
Picked up a Chameri GS which has the same movement, hands and also has AR coating and a screw-down crown for $59.00. The off-white dial sort of cream dial actually looks amazing at least from a distance. I'll probably put a perlon strap on my Chameri GS. As far as the Escapement watch IMO if the watch had AR coating I'd get one. The Chameri GS doesn't have any script on the crown but then again doesn't need any for $59.00 The main thing I like about homage watches is their price point and no need to be concerned about them although I care for all my watches equally.
I have the non blued seconds hand quarts and absolutely LOVE IT! You've definitely given me some ideas for straps to pair with it. Thanks Jody, and as always, fantastic unboxing and review!!!
I received my Escapement Time Type B Flieger with the PT5000 movement. I am very pleased with it. Timegrapher measures +2sec so it is very accurate as a ETA2824-2 clone. Also, I am able to wind it no problem. Looking forward to the next Aliexpress sale.
I used to think I didn't like blue dials but after seeing a seiko srpd blue dial and blue bezel in a store, I fell in love with it. I am saving up to buy that watch now!
It's unfortunate that you had an issue with the crown on the flieger Jody. The dress one is a strap monster, I have mine on distressed vintage leather strap at the moment. I absolutely love it. I've reviewed quite a few Escapement Times watches now, I think I was the first to review actually. In fact I've just got another one, that I'll be doing a video on soon which you might be interested in.
I have the B-type flieger, and it handwinds perfectly, so perhaps it's just this one. It wears fairly large indeed, but not oddly so, but that's perhaps a personal thing, although the size would be in keeping with the original style of fliegers. I am quite taken with it!
I have the exact same flieger and put it on a black silicone strap. I don't hand wind so that does't bother me. It is one of my favorites as I like the simplicity of the design.
I have both the watches showcased in this video. Unless the dimensions are a problem for you, I would suggest anyone looking for an affordable flieger to go for it. The 300M WR just makes it more utilitarian in my opinion. Too bad you got a piece with a defect. I got the Type B about 6 months ago and I wear it often and enjoy it. When it comes to the dress piece, it's honestly a no-brainer. Nowhere else are you going to get that level of finishing for $70. PS: The hands in both pieces are supposed to be thermally blued according to the seller. Don't know if that is true but definitely looks better than the painted hands I have seen in other watches.
I know this is a strange thing to thank you for...but, I appreciate where you place the adverts in your content, there almost always in a natural break in the video. Just saying it makes a difference...so thanks for the extra effort it takes to make the video flow well. Cheers!
I had the same problem with my TC-9. The issue turned out to be the stem spring did not have enough oomph to pop out the crown properly. Needed a new stem and spring. It will be interesting to see the lume, otherwise I don't see the attraction of the flieger. It's too thick. Mesh on the Feiko is great, but have you got a cream leather strap somewhere? A little table with some cheese, a glass of sangria...
I jumped on that Escapement Time quartz when you previewed it in your aliexpress sale video Jodi and I'm really glad I did. It looks like it is out of stock or possibly discontinued now.
Yes mate, I spotted them after, a little brushing on the inner edges. It really is very nice, eh? I kept it on the slimmer blue leather, and it looks sweet.
I purchased the Escapement Time Flieger Chronograph with the quartz Miyota 6S21 movement about year ago. It's a bit long with the lugs but I really like it. the blued hands really pop and the lume is incredible. I'm happy with my purchase.
A longer than usual comment. I understand that characteristics of traditional "Fliegers" are that they have larger crowns to facilitate their use by pilots wearing gloves. They traditionally have larger dials so the pilot can read them while keeping one extended hand on the joy stick. If you check out the original Luftwaffe Fliegers, they are really big watches. Straps were also extended, to allow them to be worn over flight suits...rather like moon watches! There is some confusion over the dial types, with type 'B' being issued to the "Bombadier" or "Bomb Aimer", whose job was to make sure the bombs hit the target. Approaching the target, the bomb aimer took command of the aircraft and issued commands/directions to the pilot, whose job was now to fly the aircraft straight and level , to allow the bomb aimer to acquire the target. Time over target was kept to an absolute minimum, as flying straight and level made you a sitting duck for enemy fighters or flak. As time over target was a matter of minutes, bomb aimer's watches are marked in minutes. Bombs dropped, the pilot took back command and headed back to base... a flight that would take hours, hence the dial marked in hours. I think that modern sensitivities have led to the 'B' being called the 'Navigator', to avoid its grim purpose !
If you have a look on the Baumuster B version you understand why the counterbalance of the second hand is that long: a marvelous detail of the "B"! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That 1st flieger wears big because the case (and buckle) come from the same factory that does the rep of the IWC spitfire. Check out an IWC case and you'll notice it's the same.
Saw a video today (Honest Watch Reviews) where Escapement Time updated the flieger .. now much thinner, 40 mm, only 100m water resistance and PT5000 movement.
Tell you what, all the extra faff to unscrew a crown and then wind it, only to find it doesn’t quite wind properly without threading back in-that’s why I would shy away from screw down crowns unless it’s a real diver. I think I have that exact International Klein blue Eulit perlon strap on a Seiko SUR317P1 right now. Definitely doesn’t go with everything, but I like the effect, and even pair it sometimes on my Seagull 1963 to match the blue hands.
Sweeping seconds quartz VH31 is quite an interesting movement. It even has a few jewels. Why it is not more common? The main thing must be the price - it costs ~14$ while common quartz movement is just a few bucks. So VH31 only starts making sense in "more expensive" enthusiast watches. There are a few interesting examples with VH31. Take a look at Charlie Paris Concordia 38mm (poor man's black bay), WMT W20 (CWC Mellor, Hamilton Pilot Pioneer homage), Qimei Benrus homage from Ali Express.
Hands are actually blued not just blue! I own the pt5000 type b flieger and it is almost perfect. Wears very well on my 7" wrist and I'm getting crazy accuracy from the pt5000. I really like the screwdown crown and wr capabilities, makes it a much better daily "beater". Less worried about knocking/snagging the unprotected crown.. Though 300m wr is a bit excessive, there's really no downside! The one I have is less than 12mm. thick.
i got the dress watch a couple weeks ago. Spectacular for the money....that VH31 movement needs to show up in a lot more watches from a lot more brands.
Quite honestly,Jody, I think that every watch should have a screw down crown and at least 100 metres of water resistance. So I would be very happy with 300 metres on this flieger. I would, however, prefer a 40mm case size , which I think would be a winner for Escapement Time.
Thanks again for reviewing, and being very descriptive, lots of affordable watches for normal folks. I now have 5 Pagani Design and 2 Steeldive watches because of your channel. These are nice, but not so much my cup of tea. (I have a 55mm Flieger and no need for more). I do agree we need a Ali-Express strap and bracelet finds video!
The type B flieger I have is Awesome from Escapement time, no problems hacking and hand winding, never missed a beat. And I also have the quartz too both great watches for the money.
My "Just wow!" for Vario strap. Looks so "tweed jacket compatible". Love it so much! I want one badly. (edited) P.S. I see only "Sorry, there are no products in this collection". All I have to say is #$%^&$$%@%$@%$#%^#.
Hi Jody. I got the escapement time type a with the pt5000 and there was something wrong with the stem too. When i would hand wind the rotor would spin wildly. I messaged the seller and he sent me another, waiting to see how that goes when it arrives
Excellent shipping packaging. Some are just placing the watch in a plastic bag and good luck it works. Not a leather fan, soaks up sweat and stinks later.
I purchased the PT5000 movement type b flieger and it is an excellent watch for the case finish simple brushing but well executed and the movement is amazing I received the watch 5 weeks ago and I set against a reference time and it has deviated by under 2 seconds fast. Like most people I have a few higher end watches and this is running as well or even better than some, for the money it's an amazing deal basically a no-brainer if you are hesitating about buying one I can only say your money won't be wasted. All in all a great watch.
Hi Jody, I bought that King Seiko homage (not Grand Seiko! lol) after you hinted at it in a previous vid. Love the VH31 movement as I dislike regular 1 tick/second quartz watches however I've had some weird issues with its timekeeping. Sometimes it's at +4s within a few days of setting it, other times like today it was at -30 seconds within a couple of days of setting it. Let us know if you have any issues!
I have the VH31 as shown in this video. I was swayed by good reviews (elsewhere), and its nice if you are into technical watch details, but for me I find it just a bit hard to read the time, as there isn't enough contrast between the face, hands and time markers. A black face would fix that. The other thing I miss is the date. My previous watches had it on a small LCD screen below the hand movement. I havent had a watch with the date showing through the tiny window before, as per an automatic.
Surprised you liked the Flieger strap and buckle Jody! That was one of the only main complaints I had with the PT5000 version of the flieger. Felt a bit plasticky on wrist, and the buckle pin looks very flimsy and thin.
Hi, Jody! Too bad about the Flieger...I have three Type A and a couple of Type B Fliegers, so obviously I'm something of a fan of the type. Liked the other one, mostly because as you say, it's a strap monster and I like to swap them out to change the look a bit. Thanks for a mighty fine video!
During the latest sale I picked up an Addiesdive flieger-type and it seems to be better quality that this one - I've been pleasantly surprised. That quartz watch seems pretty nice, though.
I also have the Addiesdive flieger and I like it better than the E.T. Fliegers are supposed to be all about legibility, and the AD with its broader handset and far superior lume is a much better watch (at a lower price) than the ET that I just got in the mail. Buyer's remorse 🤨
Check your box from Ali for the watch stem. I bought the components to assemble a watch (thanks to your video last month) and found the crown and stem included even though I didn’t order them
Yes, I have been eyeing these escapement time, not the flieger though, I already have a SanMartin and very happy with it, this version always seems strange to me. However this little quartz is really a great little dress watch, simple no date, cream dial, great hand, it is a stunner.
Ordered the same ones except a Type B. The Flieger has a crown that doesn’t want to screw back down. The long lug to lug and extremely flat case means it doesn’t work on my 6.5” wrist. Had a feeling this was going to happen even before I ordered. Now the dress watch is a keeper. Nothing bad to say about it except the plastic it was wrapped in was a PITA to remove. And the strap is garbage.
Both of those watches are on my list to buy changing them out every other day or switching the strap makes the watches look and feel so deferent, thank you Jodi for showing me this now I have a ton of straps and a ton of different options 👍👍👍
Obvious dud with that Flieger, I'd send it straight back. Well, and there's still the more compact Addiesdive. Btw. Jody, you mentioned the Vostok bracelets? I got a new Vostok directly from the factory this week (ordered around June 20th) and they seem to have upgraded their bracelets to solid links. Butterfly clasp now though, couldn't get a fit, went straight to a colour matched tropic rubber instead.
Do not have that problem with my e.t. type B Flieger. The owner claims the hands on the Flieger and second hand on the other gs homage are actually thermally blued hands not painted.
That second strap on the quartz, the navy is ace. Great looking watches but the QC issue has put me off, the type b was on my list but might save for the Laco in the circs.....
@@jamesblonde2271 I have a different issue w/ the Type B I just received. The crown does not want t to screw back down. You should have heard the pop when I unthreaded it. Also an extremely flat case. It doesn’t fit on my wrist properly but I pretty much knew this before buying and gambled because of the low price.
I’ve had pleasure of owning the type B flieger and no problem with the crown, actually its the plus part of the watch and love that onion crown feel and look too. Have not owned the type A, glade i made right decision 🙂

As a VW Bus owner I love the shirt. Regarding the quartz watch, I liked the multiple ticks per second (not the normal 1 tick per second). Who thought it was a good idea to put "quartz" on the dial, LOL?
Thanks for the strap fashion show. I bought the quartz Escapement Time as well and have been wearing it several days a week since it arrived. Still have it on the stock strap as I have no other straps. Any recommendations for affordable reliable strap sellers online?

Overall, I think Escapement Time are producing some nice watches. They arrived with very good accuracy so I'm wondering whether they are regulated before being dispatched.
Anyway, good to see the channel back Jody. I absolutely love the reviews. Stay safe.
I have one of these Escapement Time Fliegers (Type A) like in this video, I love it! The crown and winding works perfectly fine. No complaints about the size / weight, wears comfortably for me (7.5").
That quartz one actually looks pretty decent.
I got the type B and swapped the strap for a grey rubber Barton strap. It wears very nicely. The hands have more real estate that the type A. And the loom is fantastic. It has been a true smash hit for me!
Just got my Flieger 3 days ago thanks to your "recommendation" works perfect and I absolutely love it. One of the best $105 spent. Thanks
Excellent review as always, Jody. Good to have you back online. May it last for decades to come.
Thanks Frederik!
Glad you're back Champ. We're here for you!!!!! Go you good legend.
Actually like how the second hand moves on the quartz
Thanks mate! Wearing the dressy one now. Flieger back in the box.....Oh well!
@@JustOneMoreWatch that grand seikoesque ET legit looks so good!!!
It's a shame about that flieger because it looked so good
It IS good, I have one, and I do not share Jody's criticism.
You're back! Glad you got it worked out! Yay!
Shame about the stem on the Flieger i bought the B type and have had no problem. I think the ghost position can put some people off .
Same here!
I also have the type B. But not sure why ghost position would put people off, it's not exactly unheard of to have ghost position on a watch with no date window.
Not sure why 300m water resistance would be a 'moan' from Jody either. I mean, if it's capable of 300m then it should be advertised as such...
@@wtfiswiththosehandles indeed!
The Chameri GS doesn't have any script on the crown but then again doesn't need any for $59.00
The main thing I like about homage watches is their price point and no need to be concerned about them although I care for all my watches equally.
I bought the Escapement time flieger about 9 month ago. I rarely wear it, it does wear comfortable.
Sorry to hear about the defect on the flieger. I have a type b and I love it.
Same here!
Me too, no complaints for me.
I jumped on that Escapement Time quartz when you previewed it in your aliexpress sale video Jodi and I'm really glad I did. It looks like it is out of stock or possibly discontinued now.
There ARE brushed surfaces on the quartz one, check the lugs :) Small detail but looks really nice.
The quartz had a decent sweep on it. Both ok, just ok.... Well done Italy 🇮🇹🏴👍👍😁
The one I have is less than 12mm. thick.
My fleger was fine, just replaced the strap (8.25inwrist...) fits perfectly on me! Cheers
Great vid, Jody! Can't wait to get one of those GS homages. Looks like they're currently sold out, but hopefully they get more in soon.
I got the B dial, it's amazing. No issues at all.
i got the dress watch a couple weeks ago.
About a year ago I bought combination of those two watch. A flight style with VH31 movement. Perfect every day watch.
First time I've seen someone complain about too much water resistance
Indeed!
Agree, that is a plus, not a complain.
I really like the quartz model, excellent choice!
No mention of the quality of finish on them ?!
Is that the compromise re price? We don’t know according to this !
I like blue dial watches 😢
Btw welcome back.
That Harris Tweed strap... attach to the Flieger and jettison off the harbour bridge.
Surprised you liked the Flieger strap and buckle Jody! That was one of the only main complaints I had with the PT5000 version of the flieger. Felt a bit plasticky on wrist, and the buckle pin looks very flimsy and thin.
The GS homage one really blew my mind. Hard to believe such great look can cost so little. Looking forward for the restock.
It’s a King Quartz homage. Grand Seiko and King Seiko were two different sub brands.
@@Bob_Smith19 I thought this one looks like a homage to SBGW235. Does KS have this style too?
Interesting choice to use a movement that resembles an auto and then to print quartz on the dial?🤔
Great to have you back look forward to your videos every weekend and midweek keep up the great work
Ordered the same ones except a Type B.
Yeah I have the Addiesdive type A on a single pass black Nato. Awesome watch and quickly becoming a quick grab daily.
I have both the AD and ET fliegers and much prefer the AD due to its easier to read handset and far superior lume.
I have the Type B NO QC issues at all great watch Hacks and hand winds no problems.
@@garyjohnson9847 Thanks for chipping in, it's the case finishing and qualitythat impressed me on my mates....maybe Jody will test the returns policy!
@@Bob_Smith19 Wow, it really seems like they've got a crown stem problem, interesting it's a similar issue to Jody's....
I own both, the b type flieger and the King Seiko homage... Love them! Amazing value for the money. Note : I don't have the issue with the crown
I’ve had pleasure of owning the type B flieger and no problem with the crown, actually its the plus part of the watch and love that onion crown feel and look too. Have not owned the type A, glade i made right decision 🙂
Really happy when you talked with horology story
Thank God you're back!
I got the fleiger best alli exspress wathch i got...thought the 300 meters water resistant was a good touch..dont have to worry about it ..if ur an active guy...my crown seems to work ok...love ur chanel man....
