Your procedure worked perfectly for my '98 Chevy pickup, even though my truck has manual windows. When the inside door release was difficult to operate, then the release handle finally broke (2nd time in 3 years) I began to suspect the door latch needed replacement. When some bits of whitish plastic fell out of the latch, that convinced me to replace it. Now my passengers don't complain about the difficulty of opening the door from the inside. Thanks!
Just finished doing this on a 95 suburban about 15 minutes ago. 99% of it was easy, the hardest part was reattaching the fiddly little bars to the exterior door handle again and getting the window regulator back in the track. everything else was relatively easy.
If you remove the vent on the door ( 3 screws ) the old latch will slide down thru the vent hole. New latch slides right in and makes it easier to align the rod from the outside handle with the open mechanism.
On my 92 blazer the driver side won’t open from the in side could the latch be the problem? If not then could you give me a list on what could be the problem?
I’m having same problem on my 98 Tahoe. It’s definitely the door latch as it sometimes gets stuck and I have to pull outside door handle and manually move the latch to open. Same problem with passenger and rear passenger doors.
Didn't go as flawlessly as your video, but it got done. After I got everything put back together, the power window motor went out. Back at it tommorrow.
Great video, got a 1999 ck3500 with a bad latch, ie we can’t get the door open. Using your video we’ve gotten the door panel off and the inner panel. The linkage is still in place and even manually moving the levers on the latch we can’t get it to unlatch. Any suggestions or videos on how to move forward? We’ve tried unscrewing the latch post but can’t get a wrench on it (T-50) so I’m thinking the door is sagging. Thanks
Could you PLEASE do one of these videos for the front right driver's side, drivers door latch, for a 96 GMC Jimmy SLE? I've looked everywhere and am getting nowhere. The door assembly and thus, latch accessibility, seems to be different and accessibility isn't the same. VERY FRUSTRATING, and am definitely stuck with no further progress. Already have door stripped down to metal . . . but can't figure out how the heck to get at door latch from inside. Alternatively, if you know of a link for this particular issue, that's be great. Thank you.
Before I order a door latch mechanism for my 97 c1500 Chevy truck is there a difference in the standard roll up type window and the electric roll up type mechanism? I haven’t found a video yet that deals with the standard door latch mechanism...
Dark Rose On my 92 blazer the driver side won’t open from the inside could the latch be the problem? If not then could you give me a list on what could be the problem?
Why do latches usually need replacing? My 1992 C1500 doors rattle on gravel roads. I replaced the pins and bushings on the hinge but they still rattle on corrugations. Could this be a worn latch? The latches work fine otherwise.
What size are the latch bolts on a 96 silverado,,i need 4 asap,,where can i buy them,,if i had size i oculd go to local hardware and not pay 20 for shipping bolts plus cost of bolts..one site wnats 6.40 per bolt plus shipping
Are you in a shop in southern California. I need a door lock fixed and everyone is messing up my truck worse. All isiots, I can’t do it anymore. I have too much back pain. I want to bring my truck to have it fixed. 1990 C3500 chevy dually
Why do i feel like you didn’t need to remove the entire door panel? Can’t you just remove the rods from the latch and keep all the wiring connected? Just seems more work from the video.
In my opinion, it would really help to instruct how those metal clips that go to the exterior door handle work. I had to watch another video to find out. Installing those rods that go from the door handle to the latch are a head ache, a big one.
do ya'll have a video on how to replace the entire column shift mechanism including the handle on a 1998 gmc k1500 ?....the handle broke off past where it attaches at the bolt , can't find a video anywhere
I'm currently doing this on a 1990 K1500 and it's pretty much the same process. The biggest difference is you can't remove the harness without drilling out the bracket that mounts the switches to the inner door as the connectors are too large to fit the through the channel they are fed through. That bracket is fitted with pop rivets not screws, so you gotta wanna or let it hang. You could disconnect the wiring from inside the door jamb on the body side and pull it into the door and remove it that way. One thing of note....the part of the video where he's removing the door handle. It was getting stuck on the plate the rod attaches to for the door lock, at least that's what was getting in the way for me, kind of hard to see in the video.
Slide black clips off after prying through indentation. Put back on so that when reassembling you simply pop rods in. Take pictures is my advice as to orientation of the rods before removing
It's really difficult to show since they are bent and inconveniently connected where you cannot see the way it is attached. It's literally a resemblance of a male part going into the hole. It has to be pried with a little force. When taking out, reinstalling

Outstanding. Thorough and well shot. We need more tutorials like this in the world. Thanks so much.

Fantastic video. Thank you very much for showing this.

Do you have a video on replacing door latch assembly for Honda accord

Does it bother anyone else that they go through all that trouble just to put the same worn out latch back in? LOL
The video was made for instructional purposes only. Thanks for watching. +blwn99ford

You may have a grommet that broke or it may just be the whole mechanism. In my case it was the mechanism...
U and trq have completely different methods. Yours is much better.

Its the rubber damper in the latch that is squished from the previous hinges sagging.
My door lock is stuck or jammed, so it wont lock. Does the latch have tk do with this?

Yes
Its sorta similar but thats about it

You left out the part where the 10mm bolt, the one that holds the window track, needs to be re-aligned to fit.
Could you do one where you show how to open the door with two new handles on the truck and now the doors will not open after a year
+Ink demon Thanks for your suggestion, we will pass it along!
seriously you dont sell a passenger side one?
You didn't show how to remove the connecting rods.

Yeah, they are the problem here😂

Anyone else cringe when he started banging it to try and release handle? As for clips they have a tab you pry to remove easier than how he did it.
Thank you for the feedback! +Alfredo Ibarra
Cut the music please- thx
It's a damn shame a job like this will cost more than what the car is worth, in a General Motors POS vehicle.
How did I guessed it was going to be a General Motors vehicle A.K.A POS.😒
It's in the title lmfao
