It's a wonderful way to record (and I say that as one who spends his days tweaking cc and velocity data in a DAW to make tracks with virtual instruments). But why is there a credit that reads "Mix: David Boucher?" Was Mr Boucher telling the players to move in or out? Maybe making chalk marks on the floor? That's the only mixing I can imagine. Unless he was mixing a monitor mix, I guess. There's also a credit for "PA," so maybe that's it.
@@mattholsen7060 single mic still needs a mixer especially live. Players may here it different from monitors as the performance goes on and might not move to an exact spot each time. Playing single mic is incredibly difficult so having someone on stanby to lend a hand is nice.
I can accept that this LP didn't win the grammy because in fact, it's not the best folk LP of a year, but the most oustanding music I heard since 20 years. Stranger is the best song I never heard. Thank you so much Nickel Creek, your music is a blessing. The meeting between fire and grace, that Sarah particularly embodies.
The people who deserve accolades never get them when they deserve them. Sadly we look back on their careers many years later and give them their props. I saw them in 2001. I've seen over 50 concerts to date. That one is still in the top 3. I got to meet them too. I "Thank My Lucky Stars" I got to be there.
The last time I saw Nickel Creek in concert I was 19. This time when I come I’ll bring my 9 year old daughter. So fortunate to be listening to you “for the rest of my life”
They have done well for themselves and are best selling artists. Underrated means ignored or unfairly rated, they are held in high regard for their output by the fans that sellout their concerts and the critics and fellow musicians that praise them.
I was humming ¨Reasons why¨ and went on spotify to see if they had made anything new and found Celebrants and my world has been turned upside down! EVRERYTHING anout this album is bliss! Goosebumps and wide smile inducing. AMazing band that I hope comes to Denmark sometime
Glad to see that Chris is still wearing that floral shirt. Also glad to see Sara smile so much, even if it does nothing to help my raging crush on her. I wasn't sure about the song when I was listening to the recording, but seeing it performed brings it to life for me. Looking forward to the new album for sure!
Seeing them together brings tears to my eyes. They are so assured on their instruments and meld their voices with ease. I love the subtle fills Chris adds with his mandolin in the quieter moments. Most of all, I love the joy on Sara's face. Can't wait for the new album!
I've really missed this blending of talent. Can't tell you how pleased I am that you three are collaborating once again. You've still got it big time Nickel Creek and I hope you keep going strong. Been there with you since the beginning and will continue to do so. Looking forward to the album release!
The refinement of your skills over the years is showing for sure. And the magic sauce of the three of you together still blends as well as it did when you were young.
Y’all were formative for my childhood and growing up. Your music touched my soul and has stayed with with me for 25+ years. If thank you were even enough to demonstrate the infinite gratitude I hold for your place in my life.. but I’ll say it anyway. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I saw Nickel Creek in 2007 at the Tivoli in Chattanooga, TN for the Farewell for Now Tour. I saw them at the Ryman in 2014 for the Dotted Line tour. Looking forward to seeing them sometime this year. I love the Punch Brothers and I love Sean Watkins solo stuff, but they just belong all together.
I fell in love with Nickel Creek in 2002. I was lucky enough to see them live in 2003, 2005, and got to see Punch Brothers a few times and one solo Chris Thile concert. But hearing these 3 collaborate brings back such love and nostalgia in my heart that I can’t help but feel emotional everytime they reunite. Chris made me want to learn the mandolin. I had basic guitar skills. Then picked up the mandolin for a LONG time, then the fiddle. Then the upright bass. And after Punch Brothers formed, the banjo. I wish I could properly articulate how their music and harmonies make me feel. It’s like I’m 14 again and re-discovering bluegrass/new grass. I can’t stop listening, and will ALWAYS be a sucker for their musical talents. And that’s not even mentioning the time I’ve gotten to spend with Chris and Sean. They will always be the sound of my true musical awakening. ALWAYS. When my finance (from Chicago) knee of them on our first date, it was one of the most telling signs that he was my person.
These three are ultimate music legends. Unbelievable talent and amazing how they always fit perfectly together in every track. An absolutely stunning lead single. Can't wait for the album!!!
I love the build to the line "to move beyond/to build upon". At that point the song switches and it becomes so hopeful. I don't know if this song is about them in particular or just relationships in general, but from that point to the end, it just makes me smile to think about relationships that we don't give up on, we keep shoveling and digging because we need each other and life is better with others. So glad they Nickel Creek is back together making music and that this is such an encouraging song makes it even better!
Saw you guys at West Virginia University back late ‘90’s-early ‘00’s indoors in the Mountain Lair. Fuzzy memories from that era but of course wonderful memories.
so this is what happens when you take three talented individuals and combine them. Ultra Mega-zord talent. Each one of you have so much to bring to the table. Yet, at this table, you are serving up some musical Genius!!!! THANK YOU!!!
So excited for this album! It's such an amazing thing that you have all been playing together this long, creating such impactful music, and still finding the joy in playing together. Hope these albums never stop coming. We'll keep buying them as long as you guys keep producing them. Thank you!
This is my favorite of the new songs released so far. Then Holding Pattern. And the album drops on my birthday! My bf got me a mandolin for birthday (and got himself an octave mandolin so we can learn together) I have been playing electric bass for 2 years but I have wanted to learn to play the mandolin for several years. He likes lots of different music but he is definitely a metal guy (he plays guitar) And he has gotten me more into metal. Sharing eachother's passions 🥰
How do y’all keep getting better and better. I’ll never forget watching y’all play in the parking lot of Waterloo Records at SXSW way back. Stunned me how good y’all were, and so happy to hear new stuff. Always find time to play together b/c it’s an absolute blessing to us all
I’ve been listening to the live album a lot lately and I’m really happy to have new music. Nickel Creek are one of my favourite bands for many many years. When these three are together you know everything is okay and you are going to have a great time. Thank you.
My much adored Nickel Creek, Love the new music! Time stops whenever I enjoy your sounds. Can't wait to see you in September at Bristol Rhythm and Roots reunion festival. You are magic! :-)
If there is one thing I have learned by watching you over the past twenty years, you sure don't seem to be bothered much by a challenge. I greatly enjoy how you play with the lines and constantly challenge your audience. Instrumental virtuosity is sharp as always. Looking forward to hearing the album!
THRILLED to hear you three singing and playing!!!!! I have followed you since the Very Beginning and loved your harmonies..they are SO Special and have always reminded me of CSN…thank you so much for sharing your extraordinary gifts!!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Nothing but love for you guys thank you so much for bringing us such musical pleasure. I've been a fan from the first time I heard years ago to now.. Always great.
I saw Nickel Creek the first time in the 90s at a cool, smaller venue, at least compared to the bigger outside areas I saw them later. Either setting, they put on a great show. I have lots of memories listening to their music, some of it with friends no longer alive, so it's good to see the band still performing.
Oh those harmonies!! I think I speak for the collective when I say seeing you guys back together has broke our joy meter!! Baby steps to March 24th! Then flying out to Nashville to check one off the ol' bucket list!!!
Wow. Glad they found their way back together. Things changed so much since I saw them in concert. Upheaval too much to mention, but the familiarity of that Nickel Creek sound brings it all back to the joy of acoustic music done impeccably.
This literally brought so much joy and emotion to me. I am so happy to hear you guys together. I have listened to you since I was a kid and now get to share you with my kids. You guys hold an extremely special place in my heart. A huge love of my music came from you. Thank you
You guys have so much chemistry, I love all the other bands you 3 are in but nothing hits quite like Nickel Creek. Hope to see a tour and can't wait for the album.
4 instruments, 3 voices, 1 mic, 1 uncut shot! Pure talent!! It’s good to have y’all back. Can’t wait for the full album!
and the tapping sounds so groovy
@@feelinghealingfrequences7179 No auto-tuning here, my friends.
Oh these folks have so much practice they don’t play sour notes or hardly ever not hit notes singing. True masters of their craft

01:51 Sara's smile is how we're all feeling hearing the band back together
amen
18 new tracks? How are we worthy? Also, Sarah showing us who she is on the fiddle again. Can't wait!
Sarah's singing is so heavenly, it's easy to forget she can play like a demon!

I grew up listening to nickel creek and now can share with my 9 year old daughter too
I was 22 last time I saw them, and I'll bring my 11 and 8 yr old. 😊
LIFELONG FAN. I LISTEN TO THIS 6 TIMES A DAY.
Criminally underrated band. Can't wait for the new album!

@@BrianOates I think they mean that they arent as popular as some other artists
That phrase always has to do with the speaker’s field of view/frame of reference.
Sean is definitely the unsung hero of the group, his voice and playing in this are so nice 🥰
“Unsung” might not be the right word here…
some crazy hybrid picking
True. But the real unsung hero... has always been the bass player.
I love this band.
Every time I watch this it brings me joy and it's great how happy Sara looks.

One mic, no pedals, no auto tune, just spectacular songwriting, playing and performing!
Facts! Amazing!
2023 feels a bit more hopeful now that Nickle Creek is making new music 🙂

Angels hide just behind the veil of our world close enough to hear these humans make the most beautiful noise they've ever heard.

mind blown
that flip of the guitar over sara's head at 3:23 is so smooth!
Sara is so dang expressive when she sings and I'm here for it!
Woot woot! So excited to hear another Nickel Creek album is coming.

been listening to this 100 times a day and that part still gets me every time
So this is what expert level music theory sounds like. I love it, I am in awe of the talent of you all. Thank you.
Since 1989? Impossible! By my math, that would be 34 years ago!
So happy you can do it all again!
Yes! BRAVO!
good as each of you are individually, together you are magical. I got chills from the first verse. Thanks for getting back together
My god I'm so glad to see them together again making beautiful music.

This is the coolest music for driving down the road...Good vibes...Organic...Incredible talents...Thanks guys
So wonderful three part harmony weaving through the fast paced and strident tune .... takes us with them on the journey. Kudos !!!
Y'all are the best show ive ever been too. One of the best nights of my life
I love how Sean almost smacks Sarah in the face with his guitar. But he doesn't. Total pros.
I also love how much Sarah is enjoying this.
Made my YEAR to see a new album is coming out 🥹
LOVE This Song :Interchanging Harmonies and Lyrics. Love Bluegrass Music😊👍👍🎶🎶🎶Thank You For Creating And Posting This😊👍👍🎶🎶🎶

That mandolin/fiddle unison in the solo is just the coolest thing.

Definitely brings a big smile. Love that they get together whenever the time feels right,. Always interesting changes and musical delights, Thank you.
