Salut Josh, As a 68 year old on fixed pensions paying for more expensive fine tuned barrels is not really an option on my much loved CZ 457 MTR. I was however (under the inclusive health system here en France) able to have further laser treatment to my deteriorating right shooting eye. My MOA results are vastly better, not of course as good as yours but much improved. At my time of life the ability of the eyes is more relevant than the ability of the barrel, je pense! Cordialement RB
Carry on best you are physically able. Semper Fi from a 62 yr old MOS 8541. My love has become a 6mm BR and a very good scope to overcome failing eye sight.
I'm 63, like you if I were younger I'd by custom barrel but I'm sticking with the factory cz. I don't shoot paper I shoot random rocks etc. 20 - 200 + shoot at, plus mine is 22wmr
I watched your channel a lot before making a purchase of a 22 for PRS and went with the CZ 457 pro varmint (suppressor ready) and have to say, I'm not disappointed. I showed up to my first match three weeks ago, factory rifle, warne rings, vortex viper PST gen ii glass and a harris bipod. (Don't even have a rail on it yet. Was just using the sling swivel to mount the bipod.) Friend of mine snagged me two 10 rd mags and I ran sk match ammo. (Couldn't even chrono the ammo because I couldn't mount the magnetospeed to it. Barrel too short. lol) I just punched the factory listed velocity and bc into my kestrel and ran with it. For my first 22 PRS match I can't complain. Ended up middle of the pack. Didn't even fire all 100 rds. (If I remember correctly I only fired 87. Have to work on my speed.) I missed 10 shots. Super impressed what these little 22's can do at long range especially with subsonic ammo and man, I'm now hooked on 22 PRS. What a blast! Thanks for putting out great content and making it easy to make a sound decision on what rifle to start out with. (Also makes me want to build a bolt gun for the centerfire side of PRS. Dang it. lol)
Hi josh, thanks for doing that 20 inch barrel comparison, I also like Lilja barrels. I would like to see that done again with next tozero wind because this showed the CZ barrel smallest two groups at .60 and .64. The two smallest Lilja groups was .64 and .70.
Yeah I’m thinking a rematch is in order after a good Iosso barrel cleaning on both with less wind - both have proven more capable on better days but I do think the conclusion is likely to be the same they are both very close
How about an ammo comparison between a stock CZ MTR barrel vs a CZ NON MTR barrel. People are saying cheap ammo shoots better out of the non MTR barrels. Curious if it’s true. Also, a video on how suppressors effect accuracy would be nice!
Hi Josh, thanks again for such thoughtful evaluations. You truly account for all the errors built in to precision shooting and discuss what matters and what doesn't in any given setting. Did you ever repeat this test under less blustery conditions? Or do you have a sense for how good the Lilja vs OEM MTR barrels can do without wind if given their favorite ammo lots? I'm wondering if you think it's a big difference(at least for the bench rest crowd) like 0.2" vs 0.4" at 50 yds?

Hi Josh- Thanks for your work! I have a question regarding the placement of the bipods. On both of your guns the bipods are NOT mounted max. near to the muzzle. What is behind this placement in the middle of the chassis fore end? Could you please explain your thoughts:-)
Hi Josh. What do you have to invest for this 21" Lilja barrel? What twist does Lilja's barrel have? Is the extra charge for Lilja's barrel justified with an advantage of 0.1"? If you now carry out the test with 10 different types of ammunition? Then the advantage of Lilja could be gone, or become even more visible. Especially with 22LR, the right ammunition for the barrel is extremely important, which makes a lot more difference than the 0.1 inch. I would be happy about a more extensive ammunition test from both barrels.
this. All of my CZs love SK std plus. I get the occasional better group from Rifle Match or Wolf match extra, but SK Std Plus is always consistently good, and occasionally great.
