CZ, Bergara platforms are both good platforms and fun to build on and your assessment of the CZ is right on. But in the end if we get serious enough in the sport we go full custom even if what we had was just as good.
Barrels for CZ457s are, from what I’ve been able to see online, perpetually out of stock. Thankfully my stock pro Varmint shoots great. I’d love a heavy match barrel for better balance but I’m cheap! Maybe I’ll sign up for the MCR in stock notification and cry once they come back in stock as I still likely couldn’t afford one!
I own a LRP the other side of the pond in the UK, shoot Eley Sport, NSRA Benchrest 😊 I've changed the trigger spring to a YoDave, may consider changing the trigger to a Jard
I think the Bergara is just slightly a head of the CZ457 because of the clip. It is easier to put the bullets in those big clips than it is the small clips but I really like the CZs because of all the extra stuff you can get for the CZ 457s.
You can also go to Rectify LLC who can fit a heavy 1.15 or 1.18 straight contour barrel without cutting the deep notches in the chamber area to mount the barrel. A light press fit takes the stress out of the action, perfect headspace is achieved without shims. No need to send your rifle until he has the barrel in hand and they try to keep a couple Shillen super match barrels in stock. They have the aftermarket triggers and can also work the stock trigger to below Dave pull.
I recently joined your community and really enjoy watching your very informative videos. If I may ask, can you give a break down of all the parts you used to assemble this setup and Can you comment on why the mirage cover and what is going on underneath the mirage cover? Thank you
Josh.... Have you seen a difference in precision accuracy at 50 yards between the 16.5" and the 20" to 24" barrerls? I expect to see a difference past 50 yards, but I shoot against alot of other 457s and Bergaras with 20" to 24" barrels at my local ARA, and my 457 VPC with a 16.5 is on the pedestal just about every competition.
I got a Lilja to replace my VPC 16.5” barrel . At 50 the Lilja is minimally better. I’m talking about 0.03” smaller group average over 500 rounds in each barrel indoors . More than likely , I just am a little bit more stable with the Lilja at 50 . I really haven’t seen much difference at 100 yds outdoors . That 16.5” factory vpc barrel is a great shooting barrel .
Balance on a CZ with a standard 20" barrel is tricky. I'm in the process of trying to add enough weight to the front end of a MTR in a MDT XRS chassis. I'm adding the heaviest weights to the M-LOK slots out front and then plan on mount a lead weight on the front "shelf" underneath the barrel that is made by my long-ish ARCA rail mounted to the rifle. Next step is to explore one of those heavy MCR pipes...
Talk about consistency, yeah the rifle is awesome, but check out the time lapse and you body positioning to the rifle. Same spot every time.. that is consistency... well done! Thank you for all the information..
I placed in the top 20 in the PRS National Finale with my 457 and I don’t think it was the rifle holding me back. The balance issue is definitely the shortcoming, I have a 22” barrel, but it’s only .92” diameter and that’s the heaviest I could get. I needed to make my own weights in order to get the center of balance forward far enough to be viable because no one makes them heavy enough and even then it’s still not quite as far forward as I want. Maybe if I had a longer forend like an ACC instead of my Element, but I’m to cheap lol
Drop in barrels of that diameter were only available custom when I got my barrel and even now the ones Josh is talking avout are twice the price. My buget is too low for a $1300 ACC or a $750 barrel. My whole setup combined (incluing a free scope) cost me less than a Vudoo barreled action.
Noice! I think another factor is you cannot just buy a CZ457 action, and then the barrel isn’t threaded to the action so if you need to do all those things you are more likely to use established Remington 700 style components and gunsmiths
Great video Josh. Love my CZ 457, my only short coming is the weight, I had to add 4mdt weights in the front, and since I do not have an ACC chassis, I’m still short to balance it out. I’m thinking of adding a 419 grip changer so that I have more weight in the front to balance it out.
Then why did you preach the CZ 457 MTR. I'm out here searching everywhere for one? Based of watching nearly all your videos. And now they are non existence
Great Video. Question on the Modacam Mullerworks barrel. Is the barrel you used the same one they sell on their website (when in stock)? The reason I ask is because their website states "Mullerworks 1.180 straight taper. 25″ finished length with recessed flat crown." I think you stated 1.180 in your video, as well as 8 groove 1/16th twist - 24” inch barrel.
Nailed it, exactly the reason i always shoot my rim-x over my cz. When i get a heavy steel barrel for my CZ, i may go back because i love how flawless my feeding is with the cz... Just cant find any match aftermarket barrels. They are never in stock! Ever!
Started with the 457 Varmint MTR, shoots very well - then went with MDT LSS chassis, Yo Dave trigger spring - little more consistent, good feel ! Now what - full custom build ?! Haven’t been able to shoot PRS just local range. Will custom be more accurate at the 100-300 yard range ?
At my range i only have 182 yards. Ive shot that and all my others rifles out to 400ish. The problem is the conditions play an enormous role at distance and a bad wind condition day is gonna make a rifle look much worse than it actually is
I see you keep mentioning the weight as why you prefer the 700 footprint. How much does the CZ weigh, vs your Vudoo and Rimx in ACC chassis? Appreciated
Will the MPA 457 chassis not accomodate the 1.18 barrel? That size barrel looks basically flush with the receiver, and it LOOKS like the MPA Hybrid I have would accomodate it. Wondering if I'm missing something.
@@PursuitofAccuracy True, length of pull all the way out is still a little short for me. Not sure why they based it on the hybrid instead of the standard BA chassis.
So you are actually taking a 457 CZ and tossing everything but the action and rebuilding the rifle so I have to ask why don't you just start with a full rifle of another brand. Is a CZ action that good
To get to a similar point in terms of precision and ergonomics with another brand of rifle you would pretty much need to do the same thing. It just so happens that you can get a cheap 457 for less than $400 which makes it about the cheapest action available that has the modularity and aftermarket support to be able to do that. Seems like you’ve gotten away from this setup. Is there a reason other than just doing different things? Thinking about buying this barrel, so if you’ve run into problems with it, I’d like to know.
If you buy a rimx, which is just the action. Put it in a xlr stock, put a krieger barrel on it, and trigger......its a rimx. The action defines the rifle.
Do not understand, you replace the action with Rimx, replaced the barrel, replace the stock, the trigger, then what is left that you still call it a CZ?
Yeah ive went that route as well. Fixed half my issues with it, other thing for me was overall weight was considerably lighter than my vudoos and rimx.

@@jacobdobson15 not a chance
The overwhelming majority of shooters dont care if the gun is balanced in the manner which youre describing
What is that bag rider?
Search ald rifles on facebook. Its called the bag bullet
Thanks!@@PursuitofAccuracy
@@ddan5252 np. Thanks for watching. I have a video on that bag rider if you look back a few months
Josh, can I ask what scope height rings you use?@@PursuitofAccuracy
@@ddan5252 i typically run medium rings to be safe
MPA Matrix pro chasis fits a 1.3...
Is it inletted for a 457? The guys i know with the cz 457 mpa chassis are not very happy with it or already swapped to an acc
Where’s that barrel from?
Matrix Pro isn't available for the CZ457. MPA makes the Hybrid for the 455/457 and it will fit up to a 1.2 barrel.
I put a weighted Arca rail.on mine like I have on my PRS 6GT one Manners stock and it fixed the balance issue
Yeah ive went that route as well. Fixed half my issues with it, other thing for me was overall weight was considerably lighter than my vudoos and rimx.
Popular yes but it will never outsell the 10/22
Nothing will outsell the 10/22
DAMN!
😁
Will it shoot is SECOND!
COST is first
Im on the opposite side of that argument 😁
@@PursuitofAccuracy
Well of course, it is one of your jobs!
@@Redacted-Information whats one of my jobs?
The most popular rimfire? What about the Ruger 10/22??
Love a 10 22, but you will never see a 10 22 in nrl22 or prs unless they are first-time shooters. It won't take long to change over to a bolt gun.
@ericlaplante7326 I agree. However, the statement was the CZ is the most popular .22LR.
@@CruisintheStreets most popular precision rimfire.
I shoot these videos unscripted so its honest and upfront. So sometimes im saying things in a context of precision rimfire without specifically saying it
What ammo family
does the JGS chamber prefer?
Seems to like all of it
yeah its great until you want to get magazines! oof
L3i and ndr shooting have mags in stock. So you can get 13 and 15 rounders anytime you want right now
there is nothing cz on this rifle haha almost everything is aftermarket
Yup
My T1X in a SCSA chassis and lighter trigger can do those groups all day with SK rifle match @50m. 1/4 of the cost of that build brother 🫡
Is it going to balance and feel like that rifle on props though 🫡
@@PursuitofAccuracy irrelevant when sitting at a bench my friend. Rock solid bipod and rear bag and she’s not rocking on no props 😉
@@shauno7582 for bench shooting you dont need a lot. This ole girl is going to be for prs 😁
First.
