Straight shooter 😎
Just fabricated a foot to an antique lamp, this information will be very helpful to finish off the part to match the others, Thanks for posting!
You’re welcome
Thanks! Simple, Quick, and Direct Info - I appreciate you sharing this with us.
You must have not watched my other long winded videos. 🤣. Thanks for watching. I’m glad I can help.
love the outtake. good job. thank you
Glad you liked it! HAhahahahahaha
Great tip. Thanks. 👍😉
You’re welcome 👊🏼
Doing this with my Traveler's Company brass fountain pen. Can't wait to see how it comes out! Thanks for the tips!
Awesome. 👌🏼👍
How did it go?
Great suggestion!
Yeap
Great info. Thanks!
👊🏼
Nice! Great video, Alexis. Thank you for sharing!

Love your videos. FF up in KC, just started with leather to make our shift some straps. Keep up the great work, we talk about it around the table a lot!
Awesome man...Well let me know if I can help in anyway. Any specific topic?
@@SofieldLeather I've been purchasing stuff for our station & make the ping pong table a little work station late at night. We've been trying to figure out how to treat the leather. We're trying to do some stamps with paint inlay, but are concerned about treating the leather since some of it will be outside our gear. Right now I've got flebing satin sheen & the Tandy aussie leather treatment, but haven't put it to the heat test yet!
Andrew Jordan nice. That Aussie stuff is good. I use to use it. Now I make my own stuff. Acrylic resolyn is the best for protection but I don’t like the way it makes the leather feel. It’s inevitable given the work we do. Paint will get ruined. But that looks cool too. 🤣👊🏼👊🏼
@@SofieldLeather You're exactly right about that! Thanks again, keep up the videos, we're all a big fan.
Andrew Jordan 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼🙌🏻🙌🏻🤝🤝🤝
Do you think that would work for copper as well?
Yes but I didn’t like the result.
So cool, can't wait to try this out :) Cheers
Awesome. Thank for watching 🤝
Thanks for the helpful video. I've head of using ammonia this way, but never knew you could use vinegar. Vinegar would be preferable because the fumes aren't toxic and it doesn't break down like ammonia. One tip -- don't leave vinegar in a stainless steel pan between uses. Depending on the quality of the steel, the pan may develop pinprick holes and leak, even if the pan is never heated. Instead, store the vinegar in a glass jar.
Thanks for watching. Yes I learned that the hard way. 🤣👊🏼
@@SofieldLeather Me too -- I ruined a perfectly good pan.
@@biondatiziana 🤣
I use ammonia, but that is only if you want green and blue patinas on your brass or copper
Hi Sofield Leather,.Lots of other people use salt too. Any recommendation on that?
Yes you can sprinkle a little in there. Works well but really tears up the pot. Thank for watching
I was wondering whether you're willing to share your buckle source. I like the selection of Buckleguy, but just got off the phone with them and they said they put a lacquer on their brass which is impossible to remove! I'd like to be able to custom-age a buckle with this method.
Sure thing. Look up a video on my tips playlist called firefighter hardware. Should be links in description as well. Hope this helps 👍
Thanks! Will do@@SofieldLeather
Do you need to neutralise the acid with ammonia ?
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️. I have no idea. This is how I do it.
Do you let it just sit or boil it?
Either or. I usually let it sit
No salt?
I don’t use salt.
This was the easiest video I have seen yet! I need to change out a ceiling fan light fixture without changing out the fan. The fan is an antique brass and the fixture I found is bright brass. How would I do that?
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure how you would go about that. Scroll through the comments. I recall someone mentioning something about that.
@@SofieldLeather thank you. I appreciate your quick response.
Anytime 👋🏼
Hey, thanks for the super cool tip! I was wondering, do you put anything else on the brass after antique-ing, to finish and protect it?
I throw some WD 40 on it after. Don’t know if that does anything, but it helps me sleep at night. 🤷🏻♂️
@@SofieldLeather Alright haha
Thanks for the answer
🤣👊🏼
I want to treat my brass flashlight. Do you recommend it? I mean....will the fumes do any harm to glass tip or electronics of the flashlight?
🤔🤔🤔🤔. I wouldn’t do that. It’ll probably do some damage.
Yeah Bro I think it's time for a New pot!
Hahahaha. 🤣🤣🤣. I finally got one. Hahahahaha
Do you have to have unlaquared brass to do it this way?
I believe mine is lacquered as well. You can just dip them in boiling water first to melt that off. Then proceed. Hope this helps. 👊🏼
Does it make a difference what metals your pots are made out of? I don't have a steamer pot. Will it still work if I use a colander over a pot with a lid on? (that's how I steam my veggies) Also, does it leave marks the metal of your pots?
Don’t know about the material. I use a cheap pot from Walmart. They definitely will mark up and deteriorate. I already need a new one. Thanks for watching.
Not sure if you'll see this, but I'm trying to antique some brass chandeliers for my sister's upcoming wedding. Obviously they won't fit into a steamer pot 😬, any suggestions?
I 👀 it! Lol. I don’t know how to go about doing that. There’s got to be some product that you can apply with a brush or something 🤔.
For those of you who aren’t from the south when he says “cut" it on and off he really means "turn" it on and off 😉 jk man great video!
True....LOL..HAHHAHAHA
Wow ! Super amazing technique. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve got a question
I just bought a sheet of brass that I intend to place it on a bar countertop. The sheet is brand new and it has got that mirror like finish. How do I antique it? Is there a quick way to do that?
Thanks in advance
🤔🤔🤔. I’m not sure about that. Sorry I can’t help you with that. Thanks for watching.
@@SofieldLeather
I went to your Instagram account and didn’t find much leather made products there. Do you have any online store?
@@SofieldLeather never mind I say them on ur webpage.
Just started the Instagram account. My website should have pictures. 👌🏼
You have to search for a liquid solution for darkening/aging brass. There's a few options from Sculpt Nouveau or similar brands and you have to aply it with a brush and sanding smoothly with extra fine steelwhool (you may repeat the process untill you're satisfied with the patina). Finaly aply a proper wax for metal protection.
Hey Alexis, does this work for brass plated?
🤔🤔🤔. I’m not sure. Never done it. Good question though.
Question I have a piece of silver that's inlayed with brass. If I were to do this would it antique the silver in the same time?
🤔🤔🤔. I’m not sure. Is it Nickel plated or is it brass?
I’ve noticed that nickel plated does antique at the same rate.
Hi! Does this method work on stainless steel?
Thanks for watching. No it doesn’t.
Will this work with brass plated steel buckles?
I believe so. Tried it once but didn’t like the results. I only use solid brass.
@@SofieldLeather Thanks, I have an Italian military shirt that came with what looked like corroded buckles. There was brass underneath but a magnet sticks to it so I'm assuming it's plated and that was a antique coating that had some spots that corroded through to the base metal. Steel wool brought back most of the brass but the more I thought about it the more I think it was antiqued because the buttons have a half and half look. Not solid Brass look not fully antiqued.
Right on. When I antiqued the brass plated buckles, they came out more tarnished and blackish than antiqued. Didn’t look bad but not what I was looking for.
What's up!!! I've noticed you've used the pot in several videos but never noticed you toss in the Brass Rivets? is there a reason you're not antiquing the rivets? or am I missing something? Peace!!.....
Good question. The reason is because once I snip off the post it’ll expose the clean brass. Doesn’t look right. Believe me I tried. 🤣👌🏼
@@SofieldLeather I thought about that snipping, but also thought you still have the washer antiqued but do get your point regarding the contrast after snipping.... cool thanks for the tip!
I’m sure it’ll still look cool. Give it shot brother. 🤷🏼♂️
👍
Does the California WD40 work?
I’m not sure about that. I would think it would.
@@SofieldLeather Thank you.
No problem. Thanks for watching 🤙
This won't work for my Gucci combat boots metal. I need something I can brush on the metal
Scan the comments. I believe someone mentioned something about a product like that. 👍
Amazon sells "Brass Ager," 32 ounce bottle for about $13.00 and you apply with a brush, etc.
Hope this helps...
