MGM studio and her mother got her on the Dr. prescribed medications that led to addiction and no one knew what that was or how to teat that like today at Betty Ford and other addiction facilities. When she was "ill' ,her daughter Lorna said it was called a mysterious illness. The addiction was causing her to have anxiety, fears, not wanting to be on the movie set or perform. It also caused to have psychological problems. Also I read she might have had some kind of "eating disorder' She also started drinking alcohol more in the 1950's,when she met and married Sid Luft. She was hospitalized with hepatitis in 1959,which could of been from drinking and the medications. Sid Luft was also her manger and helped her with her stage/concert career in the 1950's. Somehow, he stop paying taxes, Gambled more on the horses ,and didn't managed their income well. I think when they divorced she was almost broke. At one point when Judy was separated or divorced form Sid, she wasn't working and was "ill" and there was no money or food. Lorna writes they went over a kindly and generous neighbor a Mrs. England,(who's other name was Cloris Leachman. How come Sid wasn't sending child support? or was he? I wish Lorna Luft had been a bit more truth, because although she writes of some tough times, I suspect there were a lot more. Also, her father was still alive when she wrote it.

Judy was the love of my life. I was seven years old when she died, and I still know where I was when it came over the radio. I was with my Father, who was driving with my sister and I from Ruidoso New Mexico.. My own Mother had passed away only months before, and when Over the Rainbow came on the airwaves, and they announced that Judy had died, Dad had to pull over the car I was so upset.. Losing my Mom, and then Judy's death were to much to bear.

One of my prevailing thoughts on Hollywood is that someone needed to tell Judy she was beautiful and Marilyn that she was smart. Both of them went through a lot of heartbreak because people made them think they weren't.

Frankly I was disappointed when I first heard that she was picked for the role of The Wizard of Oz... she was too old for that part... their first pic Shirley Temple would have been better for that part in The Wizard of Oz.
I don't think that Judy Garland should have ever gone into Hollywood movies at all... that was her biggest downfall and the cause for her mental illness.
Judy Garland should have just stayed out of the spotlight of H.W. & found a good Christian husband and got married for a better life style.
