    • @darbywilliams6406
      @darbywilliams6406 3 года назад +29

      My thought is always that the best part of a gift is simply that someone thought of you and wanted to give you something. The book isn’t doing anything for anyone when it just sits on my shelf. I know that if I gifted someone a book I would love for them to pass it on or donate it so others could enjoy it. Remember that the person thought of you and spread the joy to others :)

    To my memory you don't need to keep track of the characters. There is a central character, and a Final Boss, but otherwise pretty much works like a series of short stories.

    I listened to Norse Mythology and loved it because Gaiman read it himself. I don't think I would like it nearly as much if I read it to myself. Same goes for Garrison Keillor and David Sedaris books. They both have such great delivery when they speak, but it just doesn't come across the same when I read them.
    The worst thing about being a book lover is hanging on to books I loved and planned to reread and books I wanted to read a long time ago and never did. My taste in books has changed and I'm more critical about books now--at the age of 69, I'm realizing I will never get around to reading most of them. And that doesn't even include the 16 boxes of books I gave away. I unearthed my Mary Stewart King Arthur/Merlin trilogy to reread because I loved them so much 40+ years ago and was saddened to find the charm they once had for me had slipped away.

    Oooh I didn't know you owned Good Omens. I watched the show a few months ago and became obsessed with it and read the book afterwards and loved it a lot!

    Slightly weird that this Unhaul Challenge attacks the TBR so much. My TBR only includes books that I want to read. Or they wouldn't be on my TBR... 🤔

    This was super easy for me. I only have one bookshelf and it filled up last year. Well, I really liked the Sword of Truth series when I was just starting to get back into reading like 15ish years ago (and even then, I still thought a few of the books were pretty bad). Then I read LotR, WoT, and the other huge fantasy books/series and realized just how awful Sword of Truth actually is in comparison. So as I get new books, SoT goes into a box to get donated some day.

      Same! SoT was my first "adult" fantasy series and now after reading so many better ones they only stay on my shelf because most of them were gifts from my sister who got me into the series

    Gotta respect a woman who, when faced with dwindling shelf space, doubles a challenge by deciding there's 20+ books she can do without, rather then consider turning her favorite books to sit *spine out* on the shelves! No hum-drum stories will disgrace the majesty of Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings and Peter Pan!

    It hurt when Murphy unhauled 11/22/63 because i loved that book 😨. I was surprised she didn't pull out the Murakami ones.

    I’ve been catching up on your videos! Is that the same Battle Royale you meant to unhaul a year ago? :) I read Battle Royale twice, totally agree there are a lot of characters. It is really psychological and weird though. There are a few noteworthy characters: the main guy and the girl whom main guy’s friend liked (the friend died early in battle and main guy swears to protect her), the guy that won battle Royale previous year and transferred schools (he helps the main guy and girl throughout the book), the guy that can’t feel pain because of a previous accident, a girl that was physically and mentally abused when she was young (described as “angelic”), and the crazy teacher. That’s about it.
