I go to Kyiv next week, I got an apartment on Independence Square with a balcony and view over the square for only $35 per night. The city looks beautiful, cant wait to explore. You both seemed to like it so much.
OMG, I'm from India but I live in kharkiv and I was in Kyiv in August and I stayed at the exact same apartment. The location is great and the host was very kind to me. I can't believe you guys stayed there too.
I hope you understand that not in every city of Ukraine the tap water is so bad. The thing is Kyiv takes it's tap water from Dnipro river, but for example in my town Smila, we take our water from the artesian well, so it tastes just amazing.
In fact, different districts in Kyiv take water from different sources. The water from the Dnipro River and other ground bodies has issues, to say the least, but there are those who get their water supply from artesian wells (over 10%, I guess). Also you need to factor in the condition of district waterpipes... Anyway, there is nothing to panic about but having a home water filter is probably a good idea.
This apartment is located in a house that was built before the revolution of 1917, in fact so there are high ceilings (so it was decided to build). You are lucky to live in a historic architecture. In the days of the Empire in these houses lived the rich people ))
You guys rock!! Thanks for sharing all!! I dig your vintage 70’s black and green polo shirt that matched the couches and the kitchen. Lol I’m visiting Kiev Spring of 2018! I may want to choose the exact same apartment you guys stayed in!! Anyhow stay safe and be vigilant. See ya!!
Been so long since I watched your videos because I was so busy for the past 5 months and I missed watching your adventures and the food. Hahaha. Thank you for always sharing your adventures and travels. :)
It's funny what you call retro. But your younger than me. My brother had an Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale and the seats in that car were identical to your sofa. Remember the Disco Saturday Night Fever Retro Days. Ha Ha It was awesome driving those cars, Boats, down the streets of NYC and not feeling all the potholes. Those were the days bro.
Personally, hostels are much better than renting an apartment, and not just because of the cheaper price. You come to Europe to see architecture, yes, but also to meet the people of foreign countries. A rented apartment is isolation. In a hostel you will meet Europeans and also locals from that country who are travelling around their own country. You can rent a private room, or a dorm room for maximum cheapness. Hostels have a common room, couches, information boards, a front desk staff to advise you, an equipped kitchen, a dining area, & social events. Hostels have much more than an apartment, including more fun.
Love your videos, great to see different parts of the world good food all through the eyes of a lovely couple. How do you guys afford to go to so many amazing places? Do you work 9-5 jobs and spend your leave traveling the world?
Thank you! We actually work online as we travel. Instead of traveling fast we tend to stay in each place we visit for a week to 10 days. Basically all of the time we're not out sightseeing and filming we're in front of our computers doing work.
I love this "spooky" buildings in Eastern Europe that look like they're falling apart on the outside and then everything is renovated on the inside and you get really high ceilings which are so rare in other parts of Europe!
Ah, I know what you mean! We had a great apartment in Bucharest that fit that description as well. We're so keen to travel more in Eastern Europe to be honest.
This is and old Tsar building built before 1917 so the celling is like 3.7m typically. It just looks like that cause it wasn't renovated yet it would be at some point
This is a nicer apartment the decor is dated as in most (if not all) Eastern European countries post USSR but nice nonetheless you should check out some rustic Soviet Union complexes built back then, that is an interesting sight to see
Thanks! It really was. To be honest I'm not sure as we haven't been looking at hotels for a really long time now. We really prefer apartments, while traveling in Europe, so that we can do our laundry, have a work space and also cook a bit at home.
This is nice apartment for Kyiv (this is actually how we call our city). And yes, you 100% should not drink tap water in Kyiv. Locals did not drink tap water.
Вот не сказал бы что у нее есть какой-то запах. Вода как вода. Разница во вкусе чувствуеться конечно между " с под крана" и отфильтрованной, но запаха никогода не замечал.
This couple doesn't understand the European architectural system. A lot of European cities have beautiful facades which face the street. These facades are designed for the express purpose of hiding the more mundane , utilitarian, functional, and less attractive buildings located behind it. This is actually pretty smart because not only does it keep your city pleasing to the eye, it also makes it an attractive tourist destination.
For $50 in US you can get a room in a motel that has sheets with blood stains and sigarettes burns, and they don't change the sheets before or after you a check out 😃
Remember that this is a VERY OLD building, about 200 years old. It is not always possible to make a good repair in such buildings, they are simply forbidden to remodel, as these are architectural and historical monuments under the protection of the state.
Two things surprised me: ( 1) I didn't know you're 6 feet tall!!! That's much taller than I thought ^^ (2) I thought only Americans use feet and inches meaning Canadians use meters and centimeters. Anyway, I love the kitchen area!!!
Thanks! It is kind of strange how we fluctuate between the two systems. On the one hand we use kilometers but when it comes to body measurements we typically say in feet and pounds.
Hello sam and audrey. I love watching your videos. I am travelling overseas(from australia) for the first time in december this year and am planning on going to france, italy, romania and ukraine. Any tips for a first time traveller? Regards calum
Thanks! That is really exciting to hear! My biggest tip would be to be adventurous with your tastebuds and try lots of local cuisine. If you're looking to save money consider staying in hostels, traveling with friends (as you meet them on the road) to split costs, taking buses (booking in advance when you can to save money) and mostly walking from place to place or using local transportation like metros or public buses. This will help your money stretch longer.
is that price you gave a night week or month here a motel is 75 to 150 dollars a night how much is a 1 bedroom apartment a month for people living in the country as citizans here 500 dollars to 800 dollars a month depending on whats included is income lower there than in the usa
Kiev has always been super awkward in terms of newly constructed building or old building that are falling apart with totally renovated apartments inside. Don't worry about the fire hazard and 1000 yo plumbing.
Two possible reasons I am told - one to keep out drafts when the door is closed. The other is for privacy for both sight and sound. Don't know if correct.
Can You please Tell where i can Find Apartment Vasylkivska Teremky or Vystakovkit Centre ? I am A student In Taras Shevchenko National University.I want Long Term apartment for a Year
Actually, the overall interior of the apartment is pretty much the typical Ukrainian 90s-00s style. If it was from the 70s-80s it would have looked like this: fishki.net/2236644-interyery-sovetskih-kvartir.html. It's great that you have found a nice place right in the center of Kiev for a good price!
I think only a monthly booking you get much better prices. You tend to get a lower average daily price and on top of that a further discount. I would imagine something in the 500-600 range to be of better value for a month.
Nice videos! I think it would be better write Kyiv instead of Kiev. As You did with Lviv and You didn't write Lvow. Point is that Lviv and Kyiv - is Ukrainian transcription.
