I remember hearing Josh Hartnett was actually sick during the filming of this movie so if he was ill while making this, then that is absolute dedication on his part. What a wonderful and kind of underrated actor, truly. I love this film and I love this channel for covering it. Thank you so much lads!
That’s when actors/actresses are at there best, they want to get the perfect scene right away so they can go back to resting. It’s a double-edged sword, you either get an amazing performance or literally watching someone sick.
That bald headed vampire will forever be lodged in my head as one of the scariest depictions of Vamps ever. My best friend actually lives out in Juneu now, and we always joke whenever thw sun foes down about him being prepared for bloodsuckers
It's such a refreshing change from the imitation Anne Rice version we get so often, all pathetic and lovelorn. Here we get them away from their biggest risk and able to play with their food. I wish they had watched with the subtitles as it makes it clear much earlier on that they aren't beasts in terms of their intelligence, they are revelling in their power
I have 2 friends that are Biologists, they did some internships in Antarctica Institute in Argentina and got to travel for the 3 months of spring to Antarctica... One of them made just 1 of the travels and decided that it was not his path, the other made 3 travels before getting hit title... You are in a close community of 60 people (military and their families and other researchers) and its a constant sunrise for the 3 months, there's no reference of what time of the day it is, only thing that made them not fo crazy is that the base has a routine organized, so you have a schedule to follow, otherwise you lose recollection of time. It's crazy....
Your comment reminded me about an article I read about life on an icebreaker north of the arctic circle. Not only do you have to contend with the lack, or abundance of sunlight, there is also the fact that timezones are so close to each other that over the course of a couple hours you can easily travel across 12+ time zones. Completely untethered from external references to time.
It's interesting you commented about the sound at 1:58 The vampire screams and cries in this film were done by getting the actors playing them to inhale while screeching instead of exhaling as you normally would.
I clicked so fast when I saw this! OMG this is an underrated horror movies, honestly my favorite vampire movie. Bring back terrifying vampires! You guys should've put on subtitles, that way you can see what the main vampire is saying at least. Side note: Do NOT watch the second movie they did for this. DO NOT 😂😂
This is based on a fantastic graphic novel that had a great twist the movie omitted. In the graphic novel, the first vamp into town is kinda a young vampire that wants to party for the thirty days and have fun. The older vampire flies in on a private jet and meets with the young vamp kinda marvels that no one had thought of it before... And rips the head off the young vampire. After that, you have the vamps from the plane killing off the younger ones and planning to destroy the town to remove all evidence. Everything else is the same, I think.
Yes! I'm so happy you're watching this! This was the film that got me into the horror genre; I was 15 when I saw it in cinema after I had read the original graphic novel and love it so much. The only difference between the film and the graphic novel is the film doesn't include the character Vincente. Vincente was known as one of the Elder vampires (the later comics and novels expand upon how these vampires function), and he comes to visit Barrow after the group of vampires have already killed most of the townspeople. Seeing the destruction, Vincente attacks Marlow (the lead vampire in the film), saying that 'we had the humans believe we were stuff of nightmares for thousands of years and you've ruined it in one idiotic move'. Marlow being attacked is what gives Eben the idea to turn himself into a vampire.
The elder Vicente wasn't the only difference between the novel and the film: 1- Vampires didn't have their own language, their voices were just more deeper and guttural and have extended tongues; 2- Vampires acted more like sadistic sociopaths who prefer to toy with their victims rather than apex predators, more like the little girl (who, unlike the movie, wasn't killed by the survivors); 3- Marlow didn't have a female mate whom he later euthanized for being burned by UV lamps, considering the vampires in novel can regenerate almost instantaneously; 4- The familiar was more vampire than wannabe and wasn't killed by Marlow.
Great hidden gem movie. Excellent effect work. The " god, no god" line has always stuck with me as one of the best horror lines. The guy that killed the dogs was basically their renfield doing their bidding with the hopes of being turned by them. We've seen these humans helping vamps characters in a bunch of these movies. Blade, Renfield even What we do in the shadows.
Danny Huston has always been a good villain. He played Stryker well in Wolverine Origins, as bad as that film was. David Slade was such a promising director for films. Look at Hard Candy. And the reason Twilight Eclipse is the best one is he brings his dark, methodical tone to it. The opening scene is him all over and his black mirror bandersnatch episode is very good.
I didn't see the sequel. I have the impression that the yucky fellow was a familiar or Renfield. Remember Insomnia, where they're in Alaska and it's always daylight? In this one, it's always night. The evil sadistic ugly vampires versus the pretty Glitter Peeps from Twilight 😆
I love how this movie taps straight up in the top of the foodchain hunter aspect of the vampire instead of the watered down twilight type. Edit: there is a sequel to this movie which imo aint as good as this one
Tom needs to come to the Nordic countries during a winter to learn a little about how the effects of little to no sunlight does to your mood & will to stay in said darkness lol It sure is cosy when there is snow but if a bad winter with not much, that darkness can get even the best of us.
@@avatarname0008 in the areas where its almost total darkness I can imagine it does, but for me personally, its the summer time that messes with your sense of time more. With summer comes the light & when the sun is still up at 10 in the evening it can be very hard to tell, especially as its like your inner self awakes along with the light after that long dark winter so you kinda dont want to miss out on any of the light :) Our summer nights feel quite special

About guns: I always love the viewpoint (positive or negative) of other countries about our gun culture. I own two of them myself: a 12 gauge shotgun and a 22lr single shot revolver. They were both affordable, and I would take both of them to the shooting range. There was an incident where someone tried to break into my car while I was inside, and I had my revolver on me. There are a number of people who call my work who hang up at the end of the call without a farewell, which always takes me aback. Like, "We don't say 'goodbye' in this family?!" But that's only a handful of people and only on my business calls. (NB: I live in the deep American South with its "culture of honor," so we're pretty devoted to etiquette. Other parts of this big, big country may be different. In fact, I see another comment from another Southerner saying a similar thing. However, my perspective on guns is very different than theirs--I grew up assuming that everyone had a reloading room in their home.)
5:53 You know, Josh Hartnett was in a movie where he was a cop that moonlighted as a play actor in Streetcar Named Car. Can't make that up. Harrison Ford was also in it. Not their best film but fairly fun.

I tried to play it off like it didnt bother me but it took a long while before i got around to actually watching it 😂
Thought I was already subscribed…but I am, now. I think this movie is awesome. Only two gripes (I guess): there was a huge time jump within the movie. That 30 days seemed like 3, tops. AND…2…they were so close to the sunrise. I feel like Hartnett kind of sacrificed himself for no real good reason. The vampires were about to leave, anyway. And, his killing the head dude wasn’t going to stop the others from future killings. I dunno. Still love it.
Had josh hartnett survived he would've eventually become animalistic like the others and wouldve tried to kill her and the rest of the humans so that's really all he could do
"You're an idiot!!" Shaun's rant is so relatable as it's pretty much me when watching any horror movie. They always have at least one person dumb as hell or a kid that can't follow orders.
1, we all have that one film we watched far too young (Mine was "Assault on Precinct 13") 2, this is based on a comic book 3, the comic book got an awesome special where it was Fox Mulder of the X Files coming to this town in the aftermath to investigate, and it was Badass! 10/10 great reaction.
Mine was Texas Chainsaw Massacre at 13 😅 It absolutely terrified me. I didn't even watch the whole thing. I remember staying up to watch it one night and lying to my parents that it was Poltergeist I wanted to watch. It was around Halloween, so scary/horror films were on every night.
this is what its like for animals upon opening hunting/fishing season...imagine! all of a sudden some species suddenly descending upon u to kill u in every way...u couldn't settle in life like that..just get ready for a species to destroy ur homes and kill all ur beings, young and old!!😢
I’m sure she would’ve been finding somebody else right away who would sacrifice his life to save her like the guy that she wants to leave is willing to do
I think I was like 13 at the time, so I had to get my mom to take me to see this in theaters. Thinking about my (at the time) mid 50s mom sitting through this in absolute horror/disgust makes me laugh.
I love this movie! It's so much fun, but terrifying at the same time. If you guys are ever in a mood for more not glittering vampires, I'd say watch The Strain. I don't say react cause it's 4 seasons, I think, but I believe you'd like it. If you felt like reacting to the pilot, that'd be fun though ;)
I'm an American and that hanging up without at least saying "thanks" or "bye" irritates the shit outa me. It takes less than 1 second of screen time! I thought "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" was very good.
I remember watching this film on a whim with my brother and two of his girl friends one night. I was about 12 and it was us four in a fairly dim light room and we were all scared out of our minds 😂 one of the few times that I was genuinely terrified watching a movie
Like Tom, I also prefer more humane and human like vampires. You guys probably have seen Interview with the vampire but in the off chance you haven’t, I warmly recommend it.
Hi guys you really should watch THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow. It’s a fantastic thriller, twists and turns, shocks and surprises and real Intake of breath moments.
6:21 😅 American here and that always irks me, as well. I don't get why movies do that. I've never once simply hung up on someone without saying a proper bye, unless the conversation was less than friendly and a hang-up was warranted.
Did you guys not have the subtitles for the vampire language? At 26:50 you were asking questions that were answered by them previously. It's better if you have the subtitles.
It if it wasn't for the ending fight scene with Josh Hartnett and the Vampires, I would say I love this movie but, because of the ending I only like this film. I mean they spend the entire movie building towards this one moment where something exciting is going to happen and then the moment comes and it ends with a single punch.... I just felt left down.

1, we all have that one film we watched far too young (Mine was "Assault on Precinct 13")
2, this is based on a comic book
3, the comic book got an awesome special where it was Fox Mulder of the X Files coming to this town in the aftermath to investigate, and it was Badass!
As an American, I can assure you we don't just hang up the phone 😂
Hi guys, you must watch THE TALENTED MR.RIPLEY Suspense and jaw drops. Matt Damon, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow. Amazing movie.
i was obsessed with this movie as a kid ! love the car roof scene
Loved your guys reaction. This is one of my favorite vampire movies ever!
this is what its like for animals upon opening hunting/fishing season...imagine! all of a sudden some species suddenly descending upon u to kill u in every way...u couldn't settle in life like that..just get ready for a species to destroy ur homes and kill all ur beings, young and old!!😢
This director did an even better vampire film called Twilight: Eclipse. Be sure and check it out.
Most years i dont see the sun in like 3 months working the nightshift in Sweden during the winter. It´s not bad at all.
I’m sure she would’ve been finding somebody else right away who would sacrifice his life to save her like the guy that she wants to leave is willing to do
This movie F's me up EVERY time! 😮
Creepy af!!
@3:10 I don't think the creatures in "I am Legend"(2008) are vampires, even if they only come out at night. They don't have fangs, for example.
I am pretty sure in the comic they use that ship to float around from place to place killing and eating and it got stuck in the ice there
Could have sworn yall reacted to this before and I watched it lmao 😅
I think I was like 13 at the time, so I had to get my mom to take me to see this in theaters.
Thinking about my (at the time) mid 50s mom sitting through this in absolute horror/disgust makes me laugh.
I love this movie! It's so much fun, but terrifying at the same time.
If you guys are ever in a mood for more not glittering vampires, I'd say watch The Strain. I don't say react cause it's 4 seasons, I think, but I believe you'd like it. If you felt like reacting to the pilot, that'd be fun though ;)
Can't believe you guys still haven't done The Entity!
Love this movie.. a decent spin on the usual vamp genre
Well done as always guys 😎👍
Did you guys not have the subtitles for the vampire language? At 26:50 you were asking questions that were answered by them previously. It's better if you have the subtitles.
the only vampire movie better than this is NEAR DARK-features LANCE HENDRIKSON and BILL PAXTON although JOHN CARPENTERS VAMPIRES does come close
for me i think this would work better as a mini series it would give time to built up the tension
What this movie needs is a teenage girl named Buffy
Certainly!
I only watched this film last year. Pleasant suprise tbh Josh Harknet should have done more films good actor
There is a TV series for this called 30 days of night:blood trails, I have it on dvd. Never watched it though
John Carpenter's "Vampires" is a good movie you guys should react to
It if it wasn't for the ending fight scene with Josh Hartnett and the Vampires, I would say I love this movie but, because of the ending I only like this film. I mean they spend the entire movie building towards this one moment where something exciting is going to happen and then the moment comes and it ends with a single punch.... I just felt left down.
I love this movie! Great reaction!
I'm not a horror guy but liked this one.
this is how vampires should be betrayed
big fan of this movie. Do you take requests??
i LOVE this movie. thank you for reacting to it.
24:19. Poor Batista. 😂
Love this movie ❤❤❤
Lurve! Great movie!
Assault On Precinct 13 needs love if you like some Josh. Blackhawk Down is a given.
Huzzah Gents!
Ah yes the zombies vampites movie! I love that movie .i wonder how is it the comics
I think this is a good movie, but with a better director, this movie could have been a masterpiece. The premise and the story itself are excellent.
Blood is supposed to heal them, so I have no idea why he kills her
I recommend you guys react to The Autopsy of Jane Doe!
