I remember the day that I did drugs. Coming down on drugs was rough. And I just wanted a dollar for a beer to help me feel better from the drugs. I learned, if you want to give money to someone. Give them money for what they feel they need money for. Not what you think they, or dictate what they need it for. It can be food, alcohol, drugs. For me, it was a beer. That's what I needed. Give for them, not for you.
Your right some do care about being clean some do stink and only care about the high...I lived in Newark NJ Im a recovering addict from heroin and Xanax... Luckily never lived in the street but know alot of women who were same way and can tell you most will wash up here and there and then on bad days don't care at all how they look smell etc..only about the high .men and women the same... A few men and women I knew wouldn't bathe at all for weeks .. it's street life...you can get a motel for 40 something for the night a dumpy cheap one but who wants to spend money on that when u can get a bundle of dope for the same price...habit is always number one it controls you completely...your not in control anymore the drugs are...

Look around for a non union electrical or pipe fitting shop. Learn to work. I spent 25 years as an electrician before I bought my semi. I have tools. He finds a construction job...i will send him some tools. But he's gotta want it. Not selling my tools for dope Tom. Construction is out there. It pays good. In a month they could both be off the streets
Mels in thekn, if you ask an addict, how long they've been an addict? They will say, something like, 7, 10 or even 15 yrs.the steps necessary for an addict to recover, is stages. " wanting to " , rehab, then , staying the course. Without relapsing. An addict, find those stages almost impossible. Hence, the addict "manage " the addiction on a daily basis till it destroys them.
Mels the one thing you said that is 100% correct is getting out. There is a chance but it's very very low that he could stay where he is and turn hiself around. Staying there would make his rebound almost impossible. I hate to say this....i know some will take it wrong but the hard truth is....hes gotta cut and run from her. She is a anchor around his neck. Now I could be wrong but my impression of these two is that it's still just a game to her. He seems to have some hope. He's big and strong. He's young. He is no street thug. He has a good head. I have no doubt he could do this. He needs to want it #1 cut her loose #2 and get out of Delray #3. Cricket is another one. She is very young. She has no one. No one loves or cares about her. The love of your family is a given. The love from a non family member helps your self confidence. She doesn't have that. You can see there is a part of her that really wants out but after rehab she has no support system. There is no reason to stay on course because she feels no one cares. I really don't think she wants this life. Think she could be saved. Her main obstical is finding a person who isn't just out to exploit her. Finding a real human who sees her as a freind or soul mate who doesn't just want to bed her and leave. She has a really steep hill to climb. As far as the rest of these people. My heart aches for each of them. I'm sorry this where life dumped them. But most of them aren't ready to leave. Beckey is the only one honest about it. She tells you she's not ready to get out. You can't make anyone do what they aren't ready to do. You gotta want it first...after that you gotta find the support system to help and then never go back to that area or contact the people you once partied with.
If you want them to have a heater or a blanket then buy it for them if not they will just go straight to get dope with it. I'm sorry but its just the truth!

I dont think you should've given them cash, I'm not judging I was there myself a year and a half ago., but that $100 could be what causes them to overdose., I think you should've taken them to Walmart or just went yourself and got them what they would need & open all the packages and give no receipts because addiction will make you return things, just to get drugs.

I really wish these young girls who still have parents and family alive would go get the help they need. It's so hard when you're young to realize that one day these people may no longer be around. I think that regardless of what they’re spending the money on, the fact that they are now seeing that there are people out there who care and support them, it might help push them to want to do better and get help. Both of them are looking a lot better since the first couple interviews. They’re addicts, they’re going to find a way to get drugs no matter what. Even if they did spend some or all of the money on it, at least this is one less day of them having to do something grimey for money. If people don’t truly want to change, they aren’t going to accept any help. Atleast they have Tom and all of us to show them that they do have people who care and want to see them get sober. They might not have had that before. We should be worrying less about what they do with their money and more about encouraging them and praying for them to make a change and be safe

Yeah it was best to get them things they would use the money for, you can't trust someone that does drugs every single day to just not use that 100$ for there itch think about the thing you are addicted to, but if they are really smart they would use it for the better lets all hope they did, lets be positive :3.
Its not our business what they do with that cash. Maybe they will spend some on heating supplies maybe none. But even if they do spend it all on dope thats one less car Maddie will have to get in to that night. If she didn't have that money she would go sell her body for drugs an maybe be killed. I was in that world at one point in my life and I know how dangerous it is. People need to either be supportive or stop watching. These people need that support not more people to down them and talk horrible to them. I am sure they get enough of that on a daily basis.
I am so glad that Tom is here to put these people in the limelight. If Tom would not have, often times Maddies and others are not really "seen" and their stories are not told. My hope for all of these women and men is that they are able to get the help that they deserve. Every single human being has a fundamental human right to housing. This ensures a safe, secure, habitable and affordable place to live. Right now we have both a shortage of affordable housing and a drug crisis. Usually, the way it works is a person has to be ready and so done with drugs that they go to treatment. That person has to change EVERYTHING and stay away from other users. Often, you have to also live in a completely different area. It's people, places and things that can trigger you to use again. There are statistics show that once in treatment 40 to 60% of users will relapse. It sometimes takes several "tries" to get it and stay clean, but it is very possible. After getting clean and stabilized, then comes a job and housing.
i know tom is coming from a good place, as well as the sender. maybe a way to avoid all the controversial comments would be to purchase the heating supplies with that cash for them? bring them the heating supplies and the email. just a thought.

In my opinion, one could send a gift card instead. Find out what stores are near them. Something like Target, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart etc...

I have been watching your RUclips channel for a few months now I have been in the same situation not homeless but everything else that goes with it the addiction everything the emotional problems and I see what you're doing and you are truly a blessing just letting people know that they're still cared for in this world just when we thought we was counted out and it's not about the money or the gifts just you going there and talking to them makes them feel more human and not desensitized to the ways of the world how can I get in contact with you because I'd like to start helping and doing what I can

Yeah it was best to get them things they would use the money for, you can't trust someone that does drugs every single day to just not use that 100$ for there itch think about the thing you are addicted to, but if they are really smart they would use it for the better lets all hope they did, lets be positive :3.

Its not our business what they do with that cash. Maybe they will spend some on heating supplies maybe none. But even if they do spend it all on dope thats one less car Maddie will have to get in to that night. If she didn't have that money she would go sell her body for drugs an maybe be killed. I was in that world at one point in my life and I know how dangerous it is. People need to either be supportive or stop watching. These people need that support not more people to down them and talk horrible to them. I am sure they get enough of that on a daily basis.

I am so glad that Tom is here to put these people in the limelight. If Tom would not have, often times Maddies and others are not really "seen" and their stories are not told. My hope for all of these women and men is that they are able to get the help that they deserve. Every single human being has a fundamental human right to housing. This ensures a safe, secure, habitable and affordable place to live. Right now we have both a shortage of affordable housing and a drug crisis. Usually, the way it works is a person has to be ready and so done with drugs that they go to treatment. That person has to change EVERYTHING and stay away from other users. Often, you have to also live in a completely different area. It's people, places and things that can trigger you to use again. There are statistics show that once in treatment 40 to 60% of users will relapse. It sometimes takes several "tries" to get it and stay clean, but it is very possible. After getting clean and stabilized, then comes a job and housing.
