I have to say that, despite Guigsy not being a virtuoso musician by any means, and playing it very simply, he does do a lot of nice colourings and touches through this song that contribute a lot to the composition as a whole. Those bass chords during the second verse are really cool, and I never even knew they were there until I heard this. :-)
@@oliverfield877 Noel played on She's Electric, Wonderwall and Cast No Shadow according to Owen Morris. He played on a couple of tracks off DM but the rest of it was Guigs, although alternative mixes with him on bass existed for all songs
@@francescoguerzoni1458 All instruments contribute to the sound of the song even if you cannot pick out exactly what one instrument is playing. The little things the bass does in this song does indeed create a specific soundscape, that would not be there had the bass been playing differently. I played this song in a cover band many years ago, and the bass player there didn't play the song like this, but just followed the guitar, and it sounded very differently, like something was "off", but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. Regarding the bass chords in the second verse, I was referring to what the bass is doing starting at 3:00, though perhaps that's the third verse, not the second (what I meant was, the verse after the first true chorus).
I don't think it's octave tracking, I think it's a punch-in (overdub) because Guigs played the high note there and someone wanted a low note. Although it's possible (I guess) that he was playing Wes Montgomery style octaves, though I doubt it!
Do people realize that Noel was the one responsible for some of the bass tracks on the first two albums? Like, Noel would record the bass tracks himself a lot of the times because it was just quicker for him to do it rather than teach the notes to Guigsy. Owen Morris has said this in interviews. So this could really be Noel's playing and not Guigsy.
Screw turning it up to 11, Guigs keeps his bass volume at 4.20
thats fucking brilliant 🤣🤣

Richard Xavier think it’s Noel playing
Fabrizio Adinolfi I don’t think it is. I thought Noel only played on DM

You admit you never heard the bass and state that it contributed to the composition of the song? No way...and, second, there are no chords here...

The octave tracking at 3:08 is super cool!

Just learning this at the moment so good to hear it isolated.
Thank you
Guigsy wasn’t the most imaginative bassist was he?
How did you get this mate?
chuneeeeeee

this is definitely Guigsy - on WTSMG Noel played bass on She's Electric, Wonderwall and Cast No Shadow whilst Guigsy played on all other tracks
damn he was terrible. still, he was in oasis and none of us were.
He’s not that bad considering this track kinda simple and a complicated bass line would probably take away from it
@@themasterdebater4251 yeah, I'm not against simple bass lines.
How is he "terrible" exactly?
@@TheMusicalElitist this is a garbage bass line.
@@Tommy-TwigFan i doubt he had any say in it? noel probably told him to play it like this
Nah this is poor, I'm used to playing it with much more enthusiasm 😅
