It's because Pixels shoot with iso priority. In good light, Pixel photos have iso 0 - 50 with longer shutter speeds and machine learning to clean up blurs when merging, and they actually use user hand shake for pixel shift color data. iPhone always has at least 150 - 250 iso in high light with shorter shutter speeds. Different photo philosophies. But I do prefer iso priority.
@@robertwilsoniii2048 That's wrong. In perfect light conditions the exposure time is only important regarding blown out highlights. It doesn't matter whether the phone chooses 1/500s or 1/2000s regarding motion blur. I also haven't seen any evidence that Google uses machine learning in order to remove blur. Google's HDR+ is not based on machine learning, it's a common misunderstanding. HDR+ exists since 2013! Only certain aspects like the white balance, digital zoom or brighter faces depend on machine learning after Google updated HDR+ some years ago. Also, Google's "super resolution zoom" was a marketing stunt, this can be proven in a comparison with properly exposed single frame dng file at base Iso equivalent exposures. No, the reality is that the Pixel isn't that great. The iPhone is just that bad and uses too aggressive noise reduction. Again, this can be shown with single frame dng files.
@@Quoutub You're not right about any of that. I have read the white papers each year with new pixels and much has changed since the original hdr+ on the first pixel. That algorithm is no longer used. It is outdated. If you read the white papers every year on the AI Google Blog you would find that they do in fact de blur merges with still frames on Pixel 5 and 4a 5g and later. And they do in fact offer motion bour effects on Pixel 6, along with object cutout features, and face debluring. They no longer use the same shutter speed for every frame, and so they can drop iso lower. Super res zoom is not a gimmick, it uses user hand shake for pixel shift color data without demosiacing which is what enables accurate digital zoom. They mosiac the pixel shift data to get an accurate zoomed image equivalent to what an optical demosaiced image would produce without pixel shift color data. Night sight now also uses pixel shift color data on all sensors on Pixel 4 and 4a and later, and so does the main shooter modes and all lenses on Pixel 5, 4a 5g and Pixel 6 and 6 pro. Also many companies are now intentionally blowing highlights above 100nits to encourage HDR photos that use HDR10 display modes to display the high peak bright highlights in photos just oike hdr videos.
For costing less than the iPhone 13, the Pixel 5a sure did a better job with its cameras. I certainly wouldn't pay more for less in a camera. Great video.
It comes down to OS preference and duration of OTA support. Google has extended the length of time their phones will receive updates (ad has Samsung), but it still doesn't match Apple's 5+ years.
It's amazing how the Pixel has less artifacts and better details in the stills. How Google keeps on improving the software for a phone costing much less is shockingly impressive.
Google doesn't really improve the software! They rather make it worse! I have a Pixel 3a and the camera is worse than the fantastic Google Nexus 5x camera due to worse white balance and artificial digital zoom. They removed the white balance presets of the 3a after an update and the Pixel 5 doesn't have HDR+ enhanced anymore.
Thanks for the feedback. The goal is to show the photo taking experience, so people can see things like shutter speed, processing time, etc. since those are important factors for some when making a decision.
You have the best camera comparison videos on youtube, period. Been looking for this kind of format for some time and happy to come across this channel. Ordered a pixel 5a today🤘
I liked that you show how the photography is done, keep it up. As for the comparison to the Pixel there is a better white balance and more natural colors, I did not like the camera of the iPhone everything looks yellow and green.
Attention to detail is amazing. Brilliant comparison video. Regarding the phones, despite the fact iPhone 13 being the much better phone overall, its camera is still not good as the 5a's in terms of still photography at daytime. Apple's unbalanced approach towards HDR/post processing needs to change. Photos taken from the iPhone 13 look artificial, oversaturated and overexposed, while Pixel 5a's balanced approached is more true to life, although with slight bit of added contrast. Google's post processing is simply better and it has remained the same for many years now.
Pixel photo processing is way ahead of its time. No one comes close. Other camera features for me are only a plus but pixel dust them all. Excited for P6 series
I have the pixel 5a. The back camera is amazing.. I finally see what they said about Google's processing. Top notch. Stabilization is top notch on video. The front camera really really sucks tho
El nuevo formato de vídeo, con esas tomas en la app de cámara y luego la foto (después de su procesado) es realmente bueno Grant! Excelente trabajo como siempre!
GREAT VIDEO Bro Grant. Especially in light of the fact that the Pixel 5a just won the BEST CAMERA award from the MKBHD 2021 camera test. Thank you for your informative video. I will be picking up the Pixel....
Its crazy that even though i bought a really expensive 13 pro and the pictures are overall probably better i will always prefer the way Pixel photos come out, and will always belive they look better. Its just such a shame google decided to make the pixel 6 pro an 6.7 inch behemoth which completely defeats the purpose of an „mobile“ phone for me.
For videography I'll only prefer iphones...But for clicking pictures I'll anyday pick a google pixel...It's still underrated but is a GOAT. Even I've download gcam on the non pixel devices because after gcam, pictures comeout really beautiful like they've shot on pixel phones.
Grant, thanks for all your hard work on comparing these two phones. For the price I'm surprised at how well the Pixel 5a did - even better in some instances. One request is it would make it so nice if the video indicated which phone's audio you were featuring in the video comparison portions in any given shot - an arrow, a border, bold text or something on the side being featured in any given moment would be useful. There were times I could tell which was being played but other times it was hard to make the differentiation.
Google pixel took the lead in photography since the first Google phone ever and it will continue to do so ... I been using Google pixel since the pixel 2XL and now am on 4XL but it's just getting better with everything .. even with the price compare to iphone still prefer android and Google devices lot more .. thanks for this

There is the misunderstanding that Google's digital zoom is good. It's actually bad, but Apple's digital zoom is even worse (I have access to an iPhone 13 Mini). I have a Pixel 3a and Google's "super resolution zoom" is really just a marketing stunt. It only works in not perfect light conditions as it combines more frames when you zoom. This improves the signal to noise ratio. But at base iso equivalent exposures there isn't any advantage over a properly exposed (exposed to the right) and bicubically upscaled single frame dng file. It can be even worse because it guesses detail that doesn't exist due to machine learning. Though note that Apple's zoom is worse due to more aggressive noise reduction and because Apple guesses even more details (deep fusion, etc) that don't actually exist, I tested this with an iPhone 13 Mini.
@Grant Likes Tech - Hi mate, did you notice any overheating issues while clicking the pictures or while just operating the mobile in general as when I'm seeing the reviews on google search people are frequently mentioning about the heating issues and the camera getting shut down and any update whether google is going to fix it.
The detail capture and preservation on the pixel really shows on the crop. Can't wait to see this iphone compared to a flagship pixel 6

No, I haven't had it overheat on me while taking all the photos and videos for these comparisons.
Great job 👍
