Nice video but I wouldn’t recommend it, some windshields when you push up from the inside the crack gets bigger, it can even split into different directions also so yes drilling the crack at the end will keep it from spreading, most people will push up and the crack will get bigger and split into an entire new crack. Just spend the $150 get a new windshield
I'm sitting here for hours watching glass repair videos, bunch of amateur videos with their $10 diy repair kit and a bunch of professional videos with their $1k kit. Your video is the only one that married the two together. Thank you!
I've been watching DIY windshield crack repair videos all afternoon getting prepped to do my 4Runner and this one is BY FAR the best one I have watched. Thanks so much!! I have a long crack in my windshield very similar to yours, same place and length.
Thanks a lot dude. I noticed a small crack in the glass vista roof on my Mustang. This is about a $2000 piece of glass. Looked at it a couple of hours later and it had started running. It grew from about an inch to around four inches in a very short time just from changing ambient temperature I guess. No professional on-site options were quickly available so I hit You Tube and eventually ran across your tutorial here. I ran to Wally World, picked up this kit and with the help of my Dremel and diamond bit stopped the crack in it's tracks and made a professional looking repair. The crack is only visible at the perfect angle in the perfect light. Totally un-noticeable if you are not looking for it. Thanks for sharing brother.
Worked wonderfully on a 9" windshield crack started by a rock hit at the bottom left drivers side. Instead of using grease on the suction cups , I actually used those cups to press the sealer into the crack with heavy pressure since the length of the crack was relatively short. Thanks for posting, it worked!!
The repair kit manufacturer should be paying you for this video. This is the best advertisement they could hope for. Great job. I may try this next time I have a cracked windshield.
I've been looking for different ways to repair my cracked windshield at home rather than spending way too much to have it done professionally. GREAT video! I'll be picking up everything I need tomorrow!
Great job dude!!! The windshield of my Corolla 2021 has been hit by something and now there is a chip and a 15" crack!!! I started watching videos of DIY and imagined what if I put paper/tape/plastics/ or something that followed the same line of the crack and applied with a razor, a needle, and a syringe, but your idea is the best; now I know how to stop and repair the damage until I can pay $1000 DLLs for the replacement of a new one. I hope to save that amount until next month. Thank you so much.
well that is two things that I stand corrected on. I just bought a lansky sharpening system and after years of thinking it was just a fad/gimmick for suckers with more money than sense, Im now a believer! Now,I thought the same thing about these crack repair kits. I cant believe I just spent 300 bucks on a new windshield!

***** Yeah, I'm impressed every-time I do it. I was in a wind storm in this motorhome and the windshield got pelted with 2 dozen good size rocks, all leaving good sized chips. They were all repaired, then last year I got a tiny little one that I neglected to repair and it turned into this huge crack over the winter.
sixtyfiveford I left my truck running with heat on defrost in -22F weather for 20 min as I removed some snow, got 2 cracks about 12" long each. I may try this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
@@WaveAction777 I discovered a long crack this morning that starts from the bottom of the windscreen it is about 4 inches long at first I thought maybe a stone hit it which can't be possible because it's just a long line no round circle, but now that I have read your comment I suspect it was me leaving the engine running with the heater at max in the winter to defrost
@@thefullenergychannel2879 It is usually those combined. Heater alone shouldn't cause the glass to crack, but it may initiate the cracking from a small stone hit. And yes, the stone hit not nearly always makes a circular crack, it is often even unnoticeable small dot, from which a single or multiple cracks later begins to spread.
A few years ago I took my car to Safelite glass. They said they would try to repair the crack but if it didn't work I would need to get a replacement windshield from them. I've had this 1.5 foot crack across my windshield for a month, luckily it's not very visible from the outside, so no cops have pulled me over. It is however getting colder and I can tell it's starting to spread, I'm 100% going to follow this video, it's so easy to understand and helpful!
Great help! I followed your directions including what to buy and worked great. The only deviation was I used a Dremel tool with a flat bottom, 3/32 diamond bit to make the stop hole. I was concerned the pointed glass bit would start a new crack.
Nice! I was gonna say, if you go inside and gently push on the windshield, you can see the liquid kind of "flow" into the crack.... But you did get there and point that out also.... With a little practice, you can get really good at that, and they will 95% disappear... the repair lasts, too... I have some I did years ago that are still fine....
My parents had that same motor home when I was a kid! Brings back some awesome memories! Never knew those kits could fix a cracked windshield, thought they just did chips!? Thanks for sharing
SixtyFiveFord, thank you. And thank you twice more! You've saved me a lot of money in just a short while. I've watched three of your vids and now know how I'm going to clean my dirty TBI fuel injectors on my '92 Chevy. I'm also going to modify my worm gear hand winch per your methods. Looks to be the exact one that you have. And now this! I''m going to get a repair kit this afternoon and get after my cracked windshield...in my '92 pickup. That's $160 +/- for the Delco injectors and $250+ on that windshield that you are saving me. You rock!
@@sixtyfiveford I'm so glad to hear that.. I just installed a visor on my 97 Explorer and an old chip finally cracked out. Was very frustrating, for obvious reasons.. Of course, I'm not in as difficult of a position as you were with an entire overhang from a camper body over the cab/front windshield lol, I suppose I did truly have the option to just take off the visor and change out the windshield, but I digress. Hahaha. I tried both the cheaper autozone kit that you didn't use in the video (by Permatex,) and then I tried this kit that you showed in the video.. My results were varied, the Permatex one uses an adhesive "donut" that is like what you'd use to stick on a phone mount in your interior of your truck. It ripped, and failed, and after one use, did not continue to work as the resin does not agree with the adhesive that the foam pad uses. My goal was to try to end the crack, like you did, and then fill it (which worked! and also did not work!) because once I got the RainX tool that is the same design as the one you use in the video, I discovered one problem.. The suction/vacuum tip is very small. So the one issue it did have was it would not work on parts of the crack I "dug out" with a razor blade. At least reliably. It would suck in and blow out air through the "valley" of the crack, whereas the other tool did not have that issue but it lasted literally two attempts and is 100% use once then dispose.. I would say the tool you used is the go-to especially if you have any regular chip damage. It is definitely meant to go on a single divot / chip. The resin in the kit like the one you showed in the video is VERY fumey.. But that makes me think it probably works better. It seemed to spread better in the actual crack. Tomorrow I'm going to try to fill more of the visible part of the crack by drilling a "chip" over the crack, and see if that makes it basically disapper. I can't thank you enough for this video, if I had not seen this and saw your method I would've thought I was totally SOL. The windshield for my truck is about $150 raw, without labor. I could install my own, but since this windshield had no major chipping or damage or wear... I felt stupid having to replace it. My insurance does a deductable for repair, so no thanks. I'm the deductable now. And, to what end would I be replacing a windshield? Just to risk another chip and do it all over again? Pffff. We "fix" stuff around here. There's also a point where if I spend so much $ on the truck, I should just stop putting money into it and buy a V8 with less miles. LOL Sorry for the long winded reply. I'm just really thankful for your video. And hearing it lasted a long time... That makes me feel better that I didn't totally waste my time, knowing damn well I'm not a professional and if I want it fixed fixed I need a professional. Hahaha. Appreciate you!!
You mentioned about "holding constant pressure and following the crack", as well as "pushing up from inside". It would have been real instructive to see you do it in action. But alas, that's just where you sped things along making it hard to really see well. Anyhow, thanks a lot for this; And I do mean a lot!
I have 3 inch crack starts right at the edge of windshield. Those suction cups will prevent that professional plastic thingy to get to the edge. How to get around it?
A rock hit my windshield on the hwy and caused a 3” chip well this morning i noticed its gotten bigger and is not cracked about 7-8” Im going to try this today. PRAYING IT WORKS! Can not afford to fully repair front windshield!!
Hi 65F, this is a terrific reference for car windows repair, clear and concise. But, I'm wondering if you have posted any follow through. Did it withstand the test of time... after so many years?! If so, please let us know to encouraged people to take a leap of faith applying your method. Thanks for sharing!
I watched this guy re-gas the 7 up cooler, I thought he was a fridge mechanic, I just watched him repair this crack, If I had watched this first, I would of thought he was a windscreen dude. Moral here?, you are very clever mate, I will like and subscribe. You also come across with a lot of common-sense,
Had a truck toss up a rock and cause a 6 inch curving crack.. gonna try this out sometime in the next couple days and i’ll update. Seems like a great fix if you can do it right vs paying for a new windshield
I wanted to say thank you for posting this video!! This is the best windshield repair vid on the net/utube !!! I enjoy all your vids, you are one smart fella!!!!!👍
Hey man great video i had a one inch stress crack that came out of nowhere i moved my truck from the feild to my driveway the one inch crack turned into a foot long crack im a matter of 2 or 3 minutes. how long did it take you to repare your windshield. the one i have is almost as long as the one you fixed.
I've had a bit of success with the plastic syringe type resin injector. It never completely removed my bulleye's but did the job I wanted them to do, which was stop the crack from growing. Next time I'll try this style. Thanks for the video!!
Im about to do this cause my car got a rock chip then turned into a long crack just like yours. If the crack is old will this still work even if there might be dirt in the crack?
Just ordered the stuff that you pinned the link to. Hopefully it will take care of the crack in my windshield. I have the exact crack as yours in the video. 🤞🏼 thank you for the video to help us, and thanks for keeping it short and to the point.
Just found this video. Major thumbs up. I have a star crack I am going to try this on. I may have to move the tool a small amount. My only concern is to make sure the suction of the tool is strong enough to handle this movement. Did you notice any loss of adhesion with the suction cups by using the grease? Thank you.
Very concise and well explained, ordered stuff as shop said 6" crack and half dime size calls for full replacement of w/shield. Worried about cleaning grease off but will tackle with thanx from canada.
just bought the kit through your link, will check home depot for the drill bit.... thank you so much for this awesome video. i think i may end up saving a few hundred dollars!
I honestly didn't think that moving the suction spider unit along the crack would work. But I was wrong! You make a good video- keep up the excellent work sir!
great information - I'm going to give it a try. I'm just not sure about the drilling part. How did you make that little bulls eye? do you need a special drill as well as the glass drill bit? thanks for any advice you can give
You don't always have to drill. If the crack isn't growing or you don't fear that it will continue up the windshield then you can skip this step. You can always go back later and drill it. It is a readily available Glass Drill Bit. You use it in any standard hand drill.
for sure man, I'll message you when said and done with the results. and again thank you cause all glass shops around sacramento want to replace the whole window for a 9 inch crack lol
This video definitely gets a thumbs up. The price to have this done "professionally" is $80. I don't care if my doing it looks 10% worse then theirs if it saves me $60.
Thought I was gonna have to replace the windshield on my mustang after passing a semi dump driver and a rock made a nice long crack . This is going to be a nice DYI project to fix it and save a lot cash :] thanks
I usually do it about a quarter inch away. Only use extremely light pressure when drilling. If the crack goes past your drill hole while you're drilling you are pushing too hard or the crack was already passed and you just couldn't see it. Just do another one in front. You can also put it to the front in the side to steer the crack in the direction you would rather it go.
@@sixtyfiveford this helps ease the nerves about the drilling part... Posted a question a few minutes ago about how to drill it correctly, this answers it! Thank you! I have a very long crack going up the drivers side and it's never been a problem with my states inspection but I noticed it grew a little after taking to get tires maintenanced (what did those boys do to it I wonder!? I had the car with the crack never growing for about 3 years before that- car was given to me with the crack already there) gonna try to put a stop to any further growth, thank you!
Works good. He reason they won't fix long cracks is because the newer vehicles use the windshield as a structural member and cracks that are too long would adversely affect the strength in a collision or roll over. Nice little RV. Kinda like my 1985 Class-C Nissan.
iceman22st That makes sense. Yeah, my 87 Toyota Class C has been a fun toy. I try to take it out every year and put a couple thousand miles on it(even up to Canada). I'm taking it out tomorrow to travel the southern US (warmer weather).
We have a crack on our van windshield, I showed it ti a pro shop and they told me if the crack is longer than a dollar bill it can't be fixed, ours is about 8" long and the crack is about 7 years old. Maybe I should have you fix it...LOL
***** That's nice if it isn't growing. This crack came from the tiniest rock chip I got last year. I noticed it had turned into a 3-4" crack late last fall and thought I would handle it come spring time. Well it grew over the winter to what you saw.
sixtyfiveford Winter can do a number on windshields. I once saw a large van windshield crack from the temperature difference because of turning the defrost up too high too fast.
Hey sixtyfiveford I just tried this on my 93 Ranger and I'm wondering if the plastic on the particular brand of mine is defective or maybe even the one batch that I got it from, I couldn't get it to press the glue in at all. I'm able to reach the crack with window down don't have anyone to help. I did it at sundown with a light. Went ahead and put glue all over it does not seem to have entered the crack at all. Covered it too. It was a eBay brand device looks the same. It holds pressure but glue doesn't leave the shaft it just sits in there. I'll read some of the comments right now see if it'll work. Pretty sure the crack is only on the outside. I drilled pretty far so stopped not sure that I drilled far enough too but does seem like my injector is flawed.
I hope you won't get impatient with me. The dash is so wide, and the crack so low on the windshield, that no one can get enough pressure on either side of the crack with their thumbs. Best i might do would be a long candle to press directly on the crack. But would that open it? I am happy that even though I did not make a neat hole at end of crack, the hole I made has stopped the crack from continuing. When I redo the job, spreading the crack is the big challenge. Thanks for any further help.
I just used JB Weld clear silicone sealant for something that long and mixed it a little with sun tan lotion to block UV or it will stain?? Worked fine.
great job - how has it been since you done this? I have a crack about half inch and it extends through 2 chips, i just dont want it to expand and result in a windscreen replacement job. I want to ask how do you make sure that all the crack gets filled with the resin? Many thanks
Brian matty This on was only 3 months ago and still looks great. I have done other large cracks like this that have lasted indefinitely. Drilling the hole through the top layer of glass is crucial to it stopping on large crack. It shouldn't be necessary on a small 1/2" like you describe. On a small crack like yours the tool will inject the resin just fine and you will just have to move it to several locations on the crack to make sure you get a complete fill.
sixtyfiveford thank you so much that is valuable info i will purchase the kit and give it a go and let you know how i got on. I was quoted £35 by a windscreen company and the kit is only £11. all other companies are saying i need to replace the screen, which after seeing your video I know mines is salvageable as the crack is less that a pound coin length. Many thanks
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Wish I had seen it before. I have used the kit to fix the crack in my windshield. it didn't come right. Is it possible to re do it. Can i clean it and fix it. Is there a way to clean it. Thank you! Sam
I'm hoping I can apply this same process to a cracked antique glass . Logically it appears it should work, but going to test it on a different piece glass first...Fingers crossed!
Great video. Tried it and failed. As I tried to use drill bit by hand. Was working but as I got deeper crack progressed. To afraid to use power drill on my windshield. Dremal might have worked better. But do not have access to one. I am taking it in to have it repaired for $60.
Good way of fixing a windshield in a vehicle you probably don't drive that often, so did it pass inspection?? From the video I could not see anything. Thank you for putting the links in your description to the 3 videos that you recommend a lot of people don't do that.

Hey! Did the repair last? If so how long! Thank you.
Haven't needed to touch it since I did the video years ago.
LOL
Sorry for the long winded reply. I'm just really thankful for your video. And hearing it lasted a long time... That makes me feel better that I didn't totally waste my time, knowing damn well I'm not a professional and if I want it fixed fixed I need a professional. Hahaha. Appreciate you!!
I love you're videos so much. Please don't stop with them :)
The BEST glass repair video on YT, thank you!
Very cool way to fix your windshield. Awesome. Rick
***** Hey Thanks Rick.. -Moe
Cool video, whoever thought up using suction cups in grease has got my attention, would love to see what else they came up with.
Robb's Homemade Life Thanks Robb. -Moe
You mentioned about "holding constant pressure and following the crack", as well as "pushing up from inside". It would have been real instructive to see you do it in action.
But alas, that's just where you sped things along making it hard to really see well.
Anyhow, thanks a lot for this; And I do mean a lot!
Maybe grease the inside of windshield,so can easily slide finger along.
Go to settings..slow vid down.
I have 3 inch crack starts right at the edge of windshield. Those suction cups will prevent that professional plastic thingy to get to the edge. How to get around it?
Nice fix, and didn't cost much either!
Ozzstar Cheap fixes are always the best. Thanks Bro.
A rock hit my windshield on the hwy and caused a 3” chip well this morning i noticed its gotten bigger and is not cracked about 7-8” Im going to try this today. PRAYING IT WORKS! Can not afford to fully repair front windshield!!
Great repair job video. I'm going to do this.
Hi 65F, this is a terrific reference for car windows repair, clear and concise. But, I'm wondering if you have posted any follow through. Did it withstand the test of time... after so many years?! If so, please let us know to encouraged people to take a leap of faith applying your method. Thanks for sharing!
Cool , going to try this .
wtbm123 I've had good luck with them.
If you have the option to use chapstick but choose to use axle grease you are a mad man. Thanks for the video
Your freaking amazing.
I watched this guy re-gas the 7 up cooler, I thought he was a fridge mechanic, I just watched him repair this crack, If I had watched this first, I would of thought he was a windscreen dude. Moral here?, you are very clever mate, I will like and subscribe. You also come across with a lot of common-sense,
Thanks Mate. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos.
Nice job! Turned out great!
***** Thanks man.
Great video and results! How much resin are you using? I don't see you putting any additional resin into the tool.
It doesn't take much. You only put in a few drops at a time.
Had a truck toss up a rock and cause a 6 inch curving crack.. gonna try this out sometime in the next couple days and i’ll update. Seems like a great fix if you can do it right vs paying for a new windshield
Very good video explanation and demonstration. Do you think this product & the process would work on Home Glass Doors?????
Hey many thanks from the UK 🇬🇧! This is now my go to video for crack repair, excellent work and explanation 🤩🤩
Glad it helped
I wanted to say thank you for posting this video!! This is the best windshield repair vid on the net/utube !!! I enjoy all your vids, you are one smart fella!!!!!👍
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Would the kit work without drilling to stop the crack from spreading? Or will the crack continue to spread, even if you did the kit?
That's hard to predict. Just adding this will definitely slow the crack down and it may not grow. But drilling gives the crack a dead end to stop at.
It took around 30 minutes to do the entire crack.
I've had a bit of success with the plastic syringe type resin injector. It never completely removed my bulleye's but did the job I wanted them to do, which was stop the crack from growing. Next time I'll try this style. Thanks for the video!!
If you look at professionally done bull-eyes repairs, most are still very visible. I've had better luck with this style vs the syringe.
Im about to do this cause my car got a rock chip then turned into a long crack just like yours. If the crack is old will this still work even if there might be dirt in the crack?
This crack was almost 2 years old.
Just ordered the stuff that you pinned the link to. Hopefully it will take care of the crack in my windshield. I have the exact crack as yours in the video. 🤞🏼 thank you for the video to help us, and thanks for keeping it short and to the point.
Just take your time.
Just found this video. Major thumbs up. I have a star crack I am going to try this on. I may have to move the tool a small amount. My only concern is to make sure the suction of the tool is strong enough to handle this movement. Did you notice any loss of adhesion with the suction cups by using the grease? Thank you.
I can't see it. I wish I had seen this a month ago. I did a rock repair years ago, but I figured it would be a hassle to do a whole crack. Nice work.
did you use a drill or just turned the drill bit with your hand to make a stopping point for the glass crack
I used a drill. A glass drill bit needs speed but virtually no pressure to drill(don't push down on the drill hard).
Very concise and well explained, ordered stuff as shop said 6" crack and half dime size
calls for full replacement of w/shield.
Worried about cleaning grease off but will tackle with thanx from canada.
The grease will wipe right off with any glass cleaner.
just bought the kit through your link, will check home depot for the drill bit.... thank you so much for this awesome video. i think i may end up saving a few hundred dollars!
I honestly didn't think that moving the suction spider unit along the crack would work. But I was wrong! You make a good video- keep up the excellent work sir!
+Brad Perkovich I'm glad you tried it. Thanks.
+sixtyfiveford what does the suction spider do vs just hand filling it?
BoogieDownProduction
Forces the resin into the crack under pressure. This gives you a better chance at getting a completely filled crack.
great information - I'm going to give it a try.
You use it in any standard hand drill.
your reserch and presentation help. Its the best approach for my 20 inches crack. Does your kit come with enough resin for a 20 " inch crack?
for sure man, I'll message you when said and done with the results. and again thank you cause all glass shops around sacramento want to replace the whole window for a 9 inch crack lol
This video definitely gets a thumbs up. The price to have this done "professionally" is $80. I don't care if my doing it looks 10% worse then theirs if it saves me $60.
Thanks. Most shops won't touch a crack like this.
Thought I was gonna have to replace the windshield on my mustang after passing a semi dump driver and a rock made a nice long crack . This is going to be a nice DYI project to fix it and save a lot cash :] thanks
Hi there, great video. Did you fill the hole you created with resin too? Many thanks!
Yes I did
Pass wow, we dont have to have any inspection in Colorado other than emissions. Great video as usual!
5280 Street Dogs Hey Thanks.
How close to the end of the crack should you drill the dot? On top of the crack tip or about 1/8" or 1/4" away from the crack tip?
I assume you fill the drilled holes with the resin as well, is this correct?
Yes, you are correct.
+Elliot Yudenfriend Any object besides your thumb will work.
I just used JB Weld clear silicone sealant for something that long and mixed it a little with sun tan lotion to block UV or it will stain?? Worked fine.
with all these grateful comments I assume this stuff is the real deal and I'll be trying it soon thanks for sharing
+Scotty Perrillioux It won't fix a crack perfectly but it is amazing what it can do.
+sixtyfiveford I figured there might be a small crack visible after but that's not a big deal
Your video just saved me over $500 for a new windshield. thanks,
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
If, I have a need for DIY fix it repairs, I'm coming to the 65Ford Channel. Thanks for all of the great information.
great job - how has it been since you done this?
Thank you! Sam
This will still flow into a previous failed repair.
I'm hoping I can apply this same process to a cracked antique glass . Logically it appears it should work, but going to test it on a different piece glass first...Fingers crossed!
If you're drilling glass use turpentine as a lubricant.
I always knew that was possible with one of those kits. I just never had the chance to try it. Thanks for sharing.
Patrick Leonard Hopefully you never do.
Got my first crack and fixed it following this video, Thanks man appreciate you.
Glad it helped. GREAT JOB
Bestes Video für Reparatur einer gebrochenen Windschutzscheibe!
Danke.
Great video. Tried it and failed. As I tried to use drill bit by hand. Was working but as I got deeper crack progressed. To afraid to use power drill on my windshield. Dremal might have worked better. But do not have access to one. I am taking it in to have it repaired for $60.
Could the windshield repair kit work for window crack as well?
Good way of fixing a windshield in a vehicle you probably don't drive that often, so did it pass inspection??
From the video I could not see anything.
Thank you for putting the links in your description to the 3 videos that you recommend a lot of people don't do that.
redneckbryon Hey Thanks. Yeah, it passed without even a mention!
