Hello, I have an A framed roof, rectangular shaped rroof that has 2 whirlybird turbines and 2 rectangular shaped screens/vent on both ends of the attic, however it does not have any soffit vents or a ridge vent.. Should I install some I’m also not sure if I have enough or the correct insulation I’m ther. First home and it’s filled with not great surprises. Any help would greatly be appreciated
I wouldn't be concerned with the ventilation on an older roof, it would be way more cost efficient to put soffit vents and ridgevent when it is replaced in the future. There should be some local websites that show the recommended R-value for the area you live and you could convert inches of insulation to R-value. Hope this helps.
Sometimes it might be the best option. Just make sure you have some sort of intake vent like soffit vents, because when the fan cuts on it will pull air from wherever it can. If you don't have fresh air coming in, it can pull from the conditioned living space wherever there are voids in insulation, like around can lights and vents in the ceiling. I also recommend a fan with a humidistat as well. That way even in the winter when the temps are cooler it will remove moisture from the attic.
We had a huge storm come thru our area. A lot of my neighbors are having their roofs replaced. I have a lot of folks knocking on my door it seems like every day trying to replace my roof. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Christy, I'm glad you asked that question because I get that a lot around here. My opinion is if someone isn't invited to your home, I would question if I could trust them. There are plenty of reputable storm companies around the country who go door to door helping people get their roofs replaced due to storm damage, but there are way more of them that are here today during the storm and gone tomorrow. I would recommend calling a local roofing contractor who's been in business for several years and they normally would be glad to come out if you think you have storm damage. It's very important to do your homework!!! Find out how long they've been in business, you should be able to find them on the BBB website. It states when their business was started and what kind of rating they have maintained over that period of time. Also talk to other people they've done work for. It could be a little extra work on your part to have to sit through a few extra appointments, but it is so worth it!!!! Good luck, and let me know if I can help with anything along the way.

What are your thoughts on an attic vent fan? Our second story gets warm in texas summers.
