In some cases, the voters don't even watch all the movies. This is especially prevalent with the Best Animated Movie award.
A year later your comment still rings true. They did it this year too.
Disney wins by default
The only time any company "beat" Disney in recent years was The Boss Baby by DreamWorks. Poor sense of timing amirite?

So this is why Brave won best picture in 2012 when both wreck it ralph and rise of the guardians are objectively better movies.

interesting how you choice to speak about this specific movie
Because that was film they were asked about. You can google it.
Venom NBK its pretty powerful
That movie was horrible. Straight up. I can't remember ever seeing another Best Picture winner that terrible. I thought it would be good but the editing was choppy, the cinematography was all over the place, the pacing made it so that you never knew how much time was passing (obviously 12 years by the end) and there was absolutely no character development whatsoever. The acting was good but they had no material to work with.
The Lukanator Agreed that movie sucked.
The fact that Gary Oldman is walking around with not one single Oscar to his name taught me this long time ago.
I wonder if he may win the Oscar for Best Actor for Darkest Hour.
Unless Daniel Day Lewis wins again.
#OscatsSoWhite scandal
The Cinematic Mind he just won it today
Lets face it. We all know he's one of the best. The Oscar no longer matters
The man was JAMES MF GORDON, the best one on screen so far, and didn’t walk out with an Oscar for one or the best Batman movies of all time, yeah you right, we learned this a loooong time ago
Shout out to Denzel for always keeping it real
If only more public figures in entertainment would follow his example
Always so well written and you can tell that a lot of effort and thought is put into these videos. There's only one thing I don't want Adam to ruin, and it's this show.

Daniel Walker I actually want him to. I love the show but, I'd bet money this show has either exaggerated somethings, accidently reported false information, or used outdated information. Doing an episode that points out mistakes, corrects or updates itself would give the show more credit and objectivity.
But as some others already suggested, maybe it should be sone of the minor characters in the show who should host it, give them some time in the limelight.
Daniel Walker oh no!!!!! It looks like it's going to happen :)

This explains a lot when it comes to best animated picture. It's probably hard to compete with the amount of money Pixar and Disney have to throw at for your consideration campaigns.
Elizabeth Lennon no dude, Disney don’t give so much money, if they really did that, they would won in every single category, Disney is the second highest grossing company
I wouldn't be surprised if the problem isn't just Disney having the most money to throw - but also because the judges would be narrow minded, and only stick with Disney because that's what they're used to. Like I wouldn't be surprised if they're older, stuck in their ways/rigid, and only ever know of things like Ghibli movies because Disney is attached to them.
If there was a more larger and diverse panel of judges (like the Internet/social media provides the average person to be sometimes), then we'd probably see less slanderings of animation and more praise for it as an art medium.

What I love is how nominees campaign their asses off for months, and then when they win they pretend to be astonished and say, "Oh, I did *not* expect this. I'm overwhelmed and humbled!" Uh-huh.
Amen..🍷👍
This is exactly how Emily in Paris got nominated for Golden Globes!
He forgot to explain Hollywood actors/actresses, directors and producers are the ones choosing the nominee and winners.

More like the people closest to the issues would care while everyone else is either uneducated/out-of-the-loop about it or don't care because they're not personally affected. I've noticed this as an artist whenever I've seen AI get talked about - I care because I, and many other artists, have plenty to loose when AI is misused by other people/corporations, whereas someone with a different vested interest in AI would be more dismissive. Because they're the ones reaping benefits or see benefits for themselves (or project what they think is beneficial to others in a "road to hell paved with good intentions" outlook).
Shows that not only should more people learn to be compassionate/empathetic, but also that more awareness, education, and the means to act on what they've learned should be around way more.
I never understood why people cared about these awards. It's all arbitrary. Awards have always been arbitrary as long as they are decided by voters.
Because while it's arbitrary, it's still a good way to know which are objectively good... there is lots of opinion involved, but if there is enough people with the same opinion, it strengthens the value of the opinion. And if it's an opinion based off of taste, then it's good enough to be viewed as great.
The movie are good and I like bet on which movie or actor win every years. It's funny.
@@TheDeathmail Argumentum ad populum. More people agreeing doesn't necessarily make it "more objectively right." It's still just a subjective consensus, at best. And it isn't even a true popular vote either. It's only among the members of the Academy, which often lean heavily biased in certain similar directions and not necessarily reflective of the views or opinions of the greater movie-going population as a whole.
@@DeathBringer769 It's a subjective consensus about taste, which is subjective to begin with, so... that's how you build objectivity in this case.

Rosa Parks story by the whitemen brothers was simultaneously amusing and sad. Amusing because the thought is ridiculous and sad because that is not far removed from reality.
Allowed? Weird phrasing. It does show that we are still appropriating african american culture and be rewarded more than those who's culture it is.
Kind of like stealing an idea from warner brothers and making more than they ever did off the idea. Just disgusting and wrong.

Stag Beetle the point of your comment is lost somehow.
Really? Is that why Louise Ranier, a German, won the Oscar for Best Actress for portraying a Chinese peasant woman despite the fact that Anna May Wong WAS Chinese AND American born AND was around during that time? Because this country is a "melting pot"? Please explain to me how a Lithuanian (Paul Muni) plays an Italian gangster (Scarface 1932) and in the remake, an Italian (Al Pacino) plays a Cuban national (Tony Montana)? It's not without reason he edged out Al Pacino as my favorite actor to play Satan himself (seen in the TV-series Reaper).
That explains Titanic. 11 Oscars for a movie about a sinking ship.
You do know it was about a real sinking ship, right?
You don't say?
So the fact that it was based on real event actually increases the prouction value?
No. A high studio budget increases the production value. A sappy love story thrown into a real-world event is what hypnotizes a clueless audience into believing it's the best movie ever made. As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of the film.
Conow Yi I wasn't saying it does, it just sounded like he didn't know about the actual event. I personally don't like it as well
that House of Cards reference, though...
ty true tv for posting this
The funniest part of this is are the nominees. Just take a minute to really read their names.
This makes entertainment look like our democracy.
Also, I heard that Oscars aim to make LA the only centre of film, which is why foreign shows rarely win, despite being better quality: Wallace and Gromit from the UK, the various anime films from Japan etc
i love this series!

Really puts into perspective why most Oscar nominated movies are so boring that they have not even been watched by 90% of cinema-going audience.
According to the so-called professional movie critics we have low standard
Not even not just watched by 90% of movie watchers but not even heard of by 90% of people.
"MONEY CAN'T ACT!"
Neither can Adam.
I knew there was something fishy going on, I just couldn't put my finger on it until now. This is why I really wish peoples' choice-type awards would become more popular.
I can't imagine that the Academy, which is full of actors, cinematographers, directors, producers, etc. with deep roots in the industry, legitimately JUST votes for whoever bribed them with the best swag. It's entirely possible to take the gifts and invites and maintain your own opinion. I mean voting is anonymous right?
I'm sure campaigning does sway people's perception of which actors and films deserve to win but I doubt it's as simple as money = undying loyalty and guaranteed votes. These people are already rich.
Oh jeez it's Laura Palmer's dad! And he's really old now!
He was also in God's Not Dead 2
That movie got a sequel? How?!
He's also one of the gang in Robocop.
Really? I remember him as President Michael Dugan from Red Alert 2.
Nathan Eskin Leland!
great you are back, i like your show
And this is why the oscar makes everyone surprised every single time.
I thought awards were won based on how much they blatantly pander to what the Academy likes, not how much they pay them to like it.
A movie based on a true story about a black handicapped Holocaust survivor making a movie seems like it would be perfect Oscar bait.
That also counts. Most of the voters probably don't like the idea that their vote is essentially bought. They want to believe that their choice is also a "correct" one. So, they get these overly sanctimonious, "socially conscious", "world changing stories that need to be told".
Oops rong comment lol
I mean that might work with stuff like the Oscars, but other awards like the Golden Globes or SAG etc. are more commerically focused, at least relatively.
I hope you weren't kidding about the gel and Graphs

This is how everything works. The best films, music, books, art will rarely be seen and never win any awards. Money buys it's own adulation, and humans are the easiest animals to buy off that have ever existed.
So thats why DiCaprio FINALLY got his Oscar 😂

You know what other award show is rigged? The Kids Choice Awards.
Seriously, picking SpongeBob over Gravity Falls? That's a rigged result if I ever saw one. Most kids don't even really like SpongeBob that much.
Totally rigged. I think one year Spongebob had one new episode aired but somehow still won. I wouldnt be shocked if Ubisoft pays Nickelodeon to have Just Dance win best Video Game every time, especially over Breath of the Wild in 2018.
The thing is though, the KCAs are based on user votes, so there's no way they could be rigged. Probably a lot of people vote for Spongebob by default because its what they most recognize. But that doesn't make it "rigged".
idk considering how mickelodeon has had a tendancy to spam spongebob in long ass marathons I wouldn't be shocked if the kids still voted for it.
@@computerkid1416
It's completely possible to rig user votes.
They could have their staff running the polls fudge the numbers, they could use bots to run up whichever show they want to win, or heck, they could just ignore the results entirely and show whatever numbers they want.
I'm not saying they actually do any of this, just using examples to show its possible to rig user voted contests.
geez, it's almost like lobbying damn near makes the world go round... nothing gets done anymore unless you're kissing someone's ass :/

So true! Hell they still act like animated movies are for kids even though many anime movies are better then many Hollywood movies
Let me ruin this "Adam Ruins the Oscars" just a little bit: Yes, actors and showbiz people campaign for Oscars and awards *BUT* they don't do it completely out of ego. As people know, the entertainment industry is a cutthroat business where employment is anything but steady. So if your indie film or prestige film gets good reviews, Oscar buzz/nomination or even a win can get you steady employment and financial stability especially if you're just a newcomer or someone who's struggling to get by. Awards buzz can get you a higher profile which leads to more jobs and bigger paychecks. It's basically networking but other people are watching.
That's what I got from the video - a nom gets more sales
This's so trueeee
Yup. And my dude's in here!!!!
Makes me feel a little better that I don't watch award shows. I always found them to be like dog shows with people. Only thing missing are collars and leashes.
So uhh.. How do i become a voter?
rexpwnzer be rich and make a movie, then give your life savings to other rich people to sway their vote in your nomination.
Become someone who works in the film industry and join that particular guild. For the Oscars specifically, you then have to be sponsored by two current members to have any chance of being admitted. Or, become a movie critic, and join one of those award organizations.
I love that one of the best Devil actors plays the corrupt campaigner...
