Great advice. My box is mounted on the barn. I cut a 110v electrical cord and ran it underground to my fence. It’s decently HOT but will not light up the Dare Electric fence light indicator to flash indicating it’s on. You helped me figure out why when you said the extension cord will not handle the bolts. Thanks man.
Glad it helped
Do you have a link for the wire you bought from Amazon that you used to keep your fence from grounding out to your gate?
I was just speaking to a professional fencing guy about where to place my energizer and he said never on a flammable wall. You should move your unit, just a friendly piece of advice
Nice video. I was wondering y the tape was weak in spots. Now I know
5:48: your no climb fence looks great. I am thinking of using the no climb heavy gauge, small squares style of fence wire for horses.
It will be costly
@@HallsomeFarm I will look into it. I think it would make an excellent fence for horses. All types have some drawbacks. Some more than others. Where I am working horses now, the horses are infrequently getting cut up on the fencing. Too many injuries. Not acceptable for me if I were choosing a type of fence.
What is a safe voltage for livestock and how do you control that?
Love yer wood 'wall', would love that in all my walls.
Ya know most folks never stop & realize just how many things actually run on D.C. even though they plug into an A.C. receptacle! Most of the electronic devices do. Such as vcr's,dvd players, radios, etc
I spoke to someone who runs a ground wire in direct contact with every T post (its a small fence for beekeeping) so that each post is a potential ground. Does that sound like an option for a small fence? I suspect the posts are only a foot deep.
Not sure
Does that work grounding to the electric box
What's the distance between the poles
I would have never thought that using that wire would be a problem. I would thought it would be better. Thanks
@Nigel Cam hmm well let’s just hope those tactics stay overseas
Another thought about grounding your fence to your house. If your fence is hit by lightning as they often are. Will the lightnig overload spill back into your house.
Good question I don’t know.
if lightning strike the fence and that is connected to the house yes it will spill back to the house. Path of least resistance. That's one of the reasons why it's not such a great idea to connect the electric fence to the house. ;-)
@@crpth1 yep , water and electricity are a lot alike - path of least resistance.
We used 20ft of normal wire to connect the fence to the charger and it didn’t work. Just a light shock. Didn’t realize that the insulation is too thin even though it’s 12 gauge wire.
My friend had 1 foot soil over bedrock. He had to dig a trench and put 2 rods on top of the rock. It works
You mean he just laid then down in the trench? That works???
I have The same problem I have 17 gauge fence wire which is single strand as well what would you recommend for running my hot wire from my charger which can run up to 2 miles and is 5000 volts im a newbie and im not sure what gauge wire to get to run from my charger to my single wire fence ! Can you Please advise had help me on what wire type i should get thank you so much !
I need the help with the same problem. Did you find any suitable wire for your application?
Tractor supply sells wire 14 gauge for hot fence
The first wire you used can handle the 8 kV. The insulation on the wire can't
True but I didn’t know that until I tried it
Grounding your electric fence to your mains ground is a very, very bad idea for a multitude of reasons from life safety to ground noise on RF/electronic devices. The fence system charger power cord does not have a ground wire, by design, to ensure the fence system is kept in ISOLATION. Fence ground rods should be ~50ft from any existing mains earthing, utility entrance cabling, etc.
USE A SEPARATE GROUND ROD AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM YOUR ELECTRIC BOX. If you cant go deep use 2 or three shorter rods hooked together. And, take this video down before someone get hurt. thanks!
You realy need a separate earth ground. If you have a neutral fault in your house you can get AC voltage spilling to your fence.
Never thought of that, thanks
David Johnson - Not. A neutral fault will only affect the safely of that particular circuit. The fencer would still be grounded. The biggest reason not to use electrical service ground is HV noise. You'll get a click click click on radios, telephones and such.
What's wrong with the ground connection in the outlet?
Nothing that’s the best way to hook it up, my ground is all limestone I can’t get an 8 foot rod in the ground.
Never ground your fence unit to an earth in an electrical box. Very dangerous
Thanks, I’m going to change it.
I just grounded my wire to a rod in a ground and the hot wire to the first part of my fence the wire is getting bolts but the fence isn’t electricfied
look for something shorting out the fence, weeds etc.

Don't whiz on the electric fence
Learned that from Ren and Stimpy
@@f8thntheos
Yup
Is it because you had the wire on the metal? It wouldn’t short out if you had insulators I wouldn’t think.
I grew up on a farm n still live on one and I’ve run LOTS of electric fences in my life and I’ve used that kinda wire many times and no issues with it BUT to be fair I’ve never run it along pipe like he did. The wire moved the voltage he said that the insulation couldn’t handle the voltage and was shorting out , so I assume that if you’d use an insulator that was far enough from the pipe ( over head ) that would remove the issue.
most fencer instruction manuals say not to use electric panal for ground ..And alsothe best wire to use is the wire designed for nothing but electric fencing..it is actually nylon twine with very fine hair thin steel wire braided into it and its cheap ...cant understand why people feel they are experts every time they do something once.
see s see
Why not take this video down seeing right away you gave bad and dangerous advice?
Did you have more bills to pay?
DON'T DO IT THIS WAY!!
You don't connect fence ground to existing power earth, in fact your fence earth must be at a distance from your power supply earth.
Why can't it be so?
@@kareemokonofua3662 It (the fence) could kill you and/or animals it you get a power fault to earth.
It is legislation that a there is a certain distance between the two.
Who am I 😂😂😂
Thats some poor advice, putting the ground wire into your power box. There are some people that should not be digging around in a power box at all. Crispy critters everywhere.
@im allowed my opinion ok - that wire shouldn’t be in there at all but the wrong ppl digging around in that panel might end up with crispy fingers if they don’t know what they doing .. that 480V main is a sombich
Very poor sound, barely can hear what you are saying.
Sorry I do need to find a mic for the phone
I could hear you just fine 🤙🏻
