Hi new subbie here I'm a spinner and I dye alot of fiber not yarn and for some reason I can dye fiber in all sorts of ways but not by microwave I cant get it to exhaust no matter what I try god knows what I am doing wrong lol so go you well done x
Hi Sadie. Lovely to have you with us 😊 When you say you can’t get it to exhaust, do you mean that the colour doesn’t go into the fibre to the extent that you want it to? What acid source do you use?
@@melbrownecraftingpodcast4771 I mean that I cant get the colour to run clear and I use citric acid as I dont like the smell of vinegar and I use acid dyes not food colouring as I have found food colouring fades over time xx
@@sadiesspincraft6319 Yeah, I use citric acid too, for the same reason. That’s really interesting. I’ve used food colouring plenty and never noticed it fading. But I have the same experience with acid dyes - I could only get the colour to stay in when I left the yarn in the dye bath for a very long time, right until it cooled. Do you spin on a spindle or a wheel?
@@melbrownecraftingpodcast4771 I spin on a wheel Ashford kiwi 2 and a vintage 110 year old one too but she is in semi retirement at the mo until I can get her fully restored as I restored her myself and didnt do a very good job lol I'm no professional restorer. I do have my own channel I also knit and crochet I also sell my combed tops batts and yarns but I only do that with the amount I dye, blend and spin hahah I will be binge watching your channel tonight after my live at 9.30pm xx
Omgosh I am doing this! I'm off to have a go! I've loved this video ❤️ Does fibre act the same? Would I be able to swap the yarn for tops, would you microwave for the same times?
GemmaBeaMakes I’ve not microwave dyed fibre but with the cooker-top dyeing, everything that works for yarn also works for fibre so I doubt this is any different. Can’t wait to see what you make 😍
