In one Czech magazine they mentioned, that reason for failing BXE were two. Bed series of big end bearing, which wears out prematurely and rod bolts (ones holding the rod cap) being over torqued. But it's pretty simple to replace bearing and bolts (always replace bolts too, as they are torque to yield and can not be reused).

My old BXE did the inevitable and kicked it's foot out the bed (conrod went through block). Did a complete engine swap to an ASZ which had only done 67k miles and it's been a dream with zero issues. If you recently purchased a car with the BXE engine, get rid of it as soon as possible. It's not a question of if but when. The damage will cost you a good penny believe me.

Also the bxe, bls etc was made as a lighter build.. less mass to move for eco and emission purposes and takes less energy to spin up.
Same as the saab b205 engines from the older 204 and also the nissan sr20de went with lighter build on there pistons etc...all in the pursuit of using less fuel.

We can put it that way, yes.

@@YooHoostujky don't get me wrong, but... that is definitely wrong.
The crankshaft on a pd100/pd115 (its the same part number) is definitely weaker then the pd130/pd150.
Mainly due to smaller journals, with smaller crankshaft bearings and smaller conrod bearing shells.
Conrods are also weaker on the pd100, although better then the pd115.
Oil pump on the pd100 is not designed to provide as much pressure as the pd130/150 ones, and the oil spray jets are also smaller.
Head bolts on the pd100 are smaller grade then the 10.9 bolts on the pd130 and the 12.9 bolts on the pd150.
Injectors and turbo as we all know are smaller, but easy to replace.
The block on the pd100 and the one from the pd115 (different blocks although they share the same crankshaft journal size) so again, back to the same restriction on crankshafts. This is just from memory, the list goes on.
If you disassemble a pd100 engine along with a vp90/vp110 engine, you will see the pd100 is basically a vp engine with a pd head...
I also have one of my golf's (variant) with a pd100 running past 400.000kms with zero issues besides a dmf at around 350.000, great engines, and they do take mods well, but never as well as a pd130...
