The only thing that differentiates a onyx spartan from a black PS spartan is the white printed logo... Personally I wouldn't have changed the scales. At least not on a bnib one. Actually some times ago I bought a very good used one on ebay for cheap with the intention of swapping the scales... But I ended up leaving it alone. 😅

Normally I'd go for the carbon fibre scales. But those ruby scales make it look really special, so I'd go with those. But it's your knife, so you'll do what you want with it. As is right and proper lol. Oh, and I agree with you, I wouldn't pay £70 - £100 for a Spartan either.

There is a reason for the price, the process of making the coating on the tools is quite expensive. The coating isn't just an electroplating it's an electro chemical bonding of the coating to the metal that makes the coating a part of the surface of the metal not just a simple coating like a chrome plating.
