How to set up my OneDrive 365 not syncing everything
Thank you very much for this great and short explanation - very helpful!
Glad you liked it, Tony!
Thank you for your clarity and explanation.
You are welcome, John!
Thank you for making it concise and easy to understand!
Thanks 😊
Thanks for providing so useful information. Very informative.
You are very welcome, Sanjay!
Lea this is an outstanding Video..... Thank you very much. You speak so clearly and fluent... Thank you !!!!
Hi Alexander, glad you liked the video! All the best, Lea
This was such a clear and proper explanation!! Thank you maam
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Thank you so much! It really helpful.
You are very welcome!
Great explanation. Thanks, for your efforts. Do you have a video you recommend for someone struggling with setup, with making sure folders are selected to sync?
My coworker has files which are not syncing automatically, and I would like to help him simply, and get the most from his OneDrive.
Thank you for sharing. It help me to learn One drive more ❤
You are so welcome!
Viel danke! You make learning easy. Your explanations are to the point. Sie machen gutes arbeit! Gracias! Muy bien echo!
You are very welcome :)
TOP TUTORIAL!!!! Thank you so much...
You are very welcome, Peter!
I Have never used it before but now it's simple, Thank you
Glad to hear that!
Great explanation - loved it! :)
Thanks for your feedback, Kerry!
Very useful. Thank you!
Glad to hear that, Juan!
Thank you. Excellent tutorial! We have Microsoft Office 365 Family. I have one desktop computer sync all files and store locally. That way I can use a cloud backup service as a secondary backup location (IDrive errors out on OneDrive placeholders). My Surface and other devices are set to on-demand file storage, so it doesn't consume too much storage.
Awesome, that sounds great! Thanks for sharing 👍
Very helpful as a new user of OneDrive on my personal computer. I do not sync all files onto the OneDrive. Which is making it difficult to find documents that I saved on my computer only. I hope to find the solution as I watch your other videos.
Thank you Lea for you great advice and tips
You are welcome, Jayjay!
Thank you Look forward to more
WOW! Great video for this Onedrive novice. I will look at your next video and subscribe to your channel. Thanks!
Thanks 🙏
Great info, Lea. And very concise! I had to re-watch a couple segment because I was confused at first, but that's easy enough to do. One question: Does backing up the Public folder cause anything unusual to happen?
You are terrific at explaining things! Thank you for that. It is confusing, however, that you have to blur out so much of your personal files, etc. So that the novice learner can't tell what you're showing. May I suggest that you create a demo user account that doesn't have personal files so that you don't have to blur things out? I would also suggest that the demo account also have the Windows toolbar at the bottom. I understand why you have it on the left, but you lose many newbies with it there. Thanks!!
Hi Bill, thanks for your constructive feedback! Will definitely keep your suggestions in mind for the future. All the best, Lea
❤ agreed
Absolutely brilliant and what a lovely voice too and yes I have some that won’t sync and need them but don’t have a clue
Thank you so much for your feedback! Noted your challenge and will see how to incorporate it into a video...all the best, Lea
Thank you, Lea✨, for all these tips! However, what I struggle to understand is how to change the various synchronization /availability states of files or folders.
Thanks for letting me know, Daniel. I might cover this in another video..
Very helpful tutorial! I make use of a Synology Nas in combination with Onedrive on my PC and Macs and Icloud on PC's and Macs. Onedrive I use for my work at school, while Icloud private and the Nas on both. Thanks again Lea.
Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing. I believe it's always a bit tricky to manage all if you use different OS but sounds like you have come up with a great system that works perfectly fine for you :) Best, Lea
@@LeaDavid That is right. However my school uses windows, where I use Max (I do have a PC, but I use it mainly for entertainment). School uses MS 365, that is why I set it up like that. And school and private is completely seperate. I like that. My Nas I use as a backup and that sort of things.
Wow..... you did tremendously welllllllll Thank you very much indeed Lea.
Hi Nader, thank you so much :) Glad you liked it!
Is there a way to link or sync a Shared One Drive folder (from a client) to a Teams folder so that particular Teams folder is updated automatically as a client adds docs to it? Do you have a video on that?
Lea, I got a new computer and need to save a shared file to access in file explorer, not the browser so I can save documents to it. You mentioned it on this video but didn't explain that part. Maybe you have another video that does? If so, can you send me the link or help me figure out how to. I am SO backed up on some work & working off my old laptop just to get some things done. Thank you!!
Great video Lea!
Thank you, Marie!!
Beautiful work this.
Thank you, Dean!
Thanks 🙏
Thanks!
You are very welcome, Kevin! Thanks for your support, Lea
Great video!!
You are welcome, Kenneth!
Great video 😊
Thank you so much, Vivienne!
Thanks for tutorial do you have one about searching for documents? Some of my files and can search inside for keywords and some are not found. Looking for tutorial on searches (for home use)
Hi Tony, I do not yet have such a video you are looking for but I might consider it for the future. Best, Lea
Hi, thanks for all the great tips. I have a specific problem im hoping you can help me with. i have lots of photos all in folders but only some of them have a thumbnail pic that is a mountain and sun. I cannot view these pictures but i can if i choose to download them. I have cleaned the thumbnail cache and tried a few other fixes but with no luck
Hi Kerwin, thanks for sharing. However, since this is quite a specific problem it's very hard for me to judge remotely. Sorry about that and all the best, Lea
Hi. I have a quick query. I uploaded a folder on my computer desktop onedrive with the option 'always keep on this device'. It is now available to access only on onedrive and is gone from the desktop. Is there a possibility that it stays on the desktop and gets synced to the cloud in background?
You make the process so simple, excellent teaching skills! Do you know if a Dropbox account can be added to one drive and have have Dropbox automatically populate a folder in 1Drive when something is added to it?
Thank you, Ed! That's a very specific question to which I do not have an answer unfortunately. Sorry!
I needed to share a 2gb folder to a friend and it was super easy with one drive with my outlook email. Zero cost.
Now I think I will upgrade to the 20 Euros plan for 100gb..
great video.. Thank you. ONce i sync to ONe drive, can i delete my pictures for example on my PC and they will stay in the cloud with one drive ?
Hi, yes. That's the idea to have them backed up in the cloud to free up space locally. However, I would suggest to try it first with some picture copies to check if you have synced and set up everything correctly. Best, Lea
wow!!!!great Lea Maam
Thank you so much, Sanchita!
Hey Lea, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I loved your videos. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make highly engaging shorts for you?
Hi Muhammad, thanks for your feedback! However, currently I am not looking for a video editor. Thanks and kind regards, Lea
Hi please could you put up a video to fix one drive sync issues?
Noted, Arjun :)
Hi Lea, thank you so much for the video, please let e know what will happen if person from the company creates shared folder in one drive and the his accont will be blocked, persol left the company for example. Will the coomon folder stay?
Hi. Good question I am not entirely sure about. But I assume if the account will only be blocked and stay "alive", the folder will still be there. However, if the account/user will be deleted, all the information will be gone. In your case, I would check with your IT department.
Been using computers/windows for many years. I find this 365 stuff very confusing. It looks nothing like the old versions. I can't figure out how to delete files, click and drag a file to a new folder. I can't do really basic stuff. What am I missing? I have an old computer (5 years) but that shouldn't matter since all of this is on the cloud.
Hi and sorry to hear you struggle with Microsoft. Hope my video could help you at least to some degree. Best, Lea
Yes it did, slow progress. @@LeaDavid
I agree.. why couldn't they just leave it alone? Drives me crazy.
I agree with these comments on confusion. What I need is a description of what is actually happening to the files at the outset and this video did not do this. For instance the term download was used but to where?
The term "in one drive" was used but what does this mean? To me it suggests ypu have to move folders in files into one drive just like you would to another physical drive. But then you talk about syncing existing folders. Definition please.

thank you sir i want to start the one drive but which way i can down-lode the full video for training
You are welcome! Not sure if it's possible to download the video so it might be easier to just re-watch it here.
Very helpful tutorial! Have you created a video explaining the coordination of One Drive and SharePoint?
Hi Don, thanks so much. Not yet but I might consider this topic for another video going forward. All the best, Lea
I’d be interested in this too please 😊
Me too
Excellent One.. Very Informative & very well explained... Thank You !
You are welcome, Chetan!
What a nice video! Im wonder “what kind of content she does? let me see”. Organization stuff, I like it! Nice discover on YT
Thank you so much, Giovanne!
how to delete a single page off of a KDP template? It's the acknowledgements page. It's numbered as 1 but a couple pages later, my book starts and it also is numbered 1. Could confuse the readers. HELP!!!!!
yes please! Permissions and having two one drive accounts accessible at once was at first creating a sync issue. Now we are having issues sharing some of our folders and we are trying to change permissions and access. But stuck.
Hi Lia, sorry to hear about your challenges. Hope I can address some of them in a future video. In the meantime maybe you can fix some by googling?! Best, Lea
Thank you for this. I am not finding the cloud on my taskbar, but it is in my Start bar. Is this what you mean?
Hi, I am not sure what you mean by Start bar. But as long as you have the icon or can access your OneDrive in a different way, everything's fine :)
Informative video. Thanks for the same
Thanks, Ravindra! Appreciate your feedback!
Thanks
You are welcome, Bijay :)
In file explorer, none of the OneDrive documents show the symbols. How do I get these to show
how to I add my full D Drive with my OneDrive Sync?
thanks
Very welcome 😀
I need help with synch issues. Do you have a video on this?
Not yet, sorry!
HI LEA PLEASE I NEED SOME OF YOUR VIDEOS ON ONEDRIVE
Haha, you can always watch them here on RUclips
Thank you for this informative video. Was very helpful. Wish you spoke a bit slower though as I had no time to digest each topic as you spoke.
You can control the playback speed on the video
Yes I know I can control the speed of the video and pause it too. However using slower speed also distorts the audio. Am sure you know this also.
I know, but it may still be helpful:)
Thank you, Lea! You explain things very clearly. I found this because I was looking for the most efficient way to move files to a new Surface Pro. I ended up watching 4 of your videos!
This question may have an obvious answer, but when I reorganize my file and folder structure based on your other excellent video, will OneDrive automatically update to the revised folder structure as I work my way through the reorganization process?
Hi Robert, thank you so much for your support! Not sure what you mean by "OneDrive automatically update". If you are working in OneDrive in the browser that's for sure, because you are changing your OneDrive folder structure. If you are working in your file explorer, where you have synced and mirrored your OneDrive, then as well. However, if you are working on your local drive, for example, that is not synced with OneDrive, OneDrive will not update (only synced files and folders will do so). Hope this answers your question. All the best, Lea
@@LeaDavid Thanks, Lea. Your answer is very complete and accurate. When I asked the question, I was unfamiliar with OneDrive, and needed to work through the process to understand how it worked, so I could predict what it would do. The process of setting up OneDrive and designating the files and folders to sync actually clarified the synchronization mechanism for me. Thanks again for your great videos!
I have disabled the "Files will be deleted from all devices" notification and I dont know how to get it back.
Lea so many thanks. I have in error purchased Microsoft 365 Web based. How can I identify office 365 non Web based with full functionality. Many thanks
Hi, sorry to hear that something is not working but I do not completely understand your question..
Hello Lea, you are a P/C genius in my book. Please tell me how I can add a Title to my photos in One Drive ( I have an annual subscription to 365 ) so that when I put the location into the search box I find the photo really easily. Can you HELP ???, Thank you Manfred
Hello Lea great introduction to One Drive. At the end (9:40) of the video, you tell us how to choose folders to sync with a computer. This option interests me! But I don't get the Account window with the Setting gear. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hi Dominique, thanks! Even though I have never came across this problem, you might want to try the following: reboot your computer. Log in and out of OneDrive. Access OneDrive in the browser and change settings there if possible. Hope one of those options can help. All the best, Lea
My suspicion is that when your one drive is company owned/ controlled you don’t get the gear icon@@LeaDavid
My sincere thanks to you for this video. I found it to be very useful, but I need a information please: how do I provide access to my OneDrive to everyone in my organization without sharing or providing links? Thank you again.
Thanks for the feedback! I believe the only possible way to provide access to other people is to share or provide a link. Do you work with Sharepoint, which might be an alternative. Best, Lea
How do I synch files from onedrive on my computer to onedrive online.
That's it. Please just tell me how to do that.
Thanks for the video. I use one drive to back up all my photos and videos. However when I open up a picture folder, aside from the pictures showing, there are blank jpg files with an icon but says it cannot access the photo. Each file is 4K size and these may be duplicates. Also one drive won’t play any of the camera or iPhone videos I’ve uploaded. Says can’t access right now and to try again later.
Hi Dan, thanks for sharing. That's a good question I cannot answer remotely. Sounds very specific maybe to do with your internet connection or settings. Hope you can figure it out yourself or with the help of google. Best, Lea
How can we integrate one drive with calendar?
I wish one drive could backup like iCloud does for the iphones n ipads. I know creating a system image and uploading it is possible but an incremental save with an option to one click backup n restore (whole system) would have been so much better.
Agree, there are quite a bit of room for improvement..
Hi Lea. I am unable to delete files on One Drive. I’ve watched 100 tutorials and something is going on that I cannot figure out. This is a work computer but these are my files. I’ve asked our IT guy and he is clueless. I go to OneDrive; find a folder or file I want to delete; hit DELETE and I am told cannot delete. Or… SOMETIMES; it says deleted but does not appear in the recycle bin and it’s still there. I want to keep ONE DRIVE but I am over the storage limit and I want to purge… Thank you… Gene
Hi Lea, wonder if you can help here... I am trying to transfer all my iphone photos to the computer. I have de-selected "Pictures" folder in "Setting/Manage Backup" prior to the photo transfer. However, when the photos are being transferred, they are automtically backed up/stored onto OneDrive. Where in the Setting that I change to prevent all my photos from going into OneDrive?
Hi Denis, it might be the case that you enabled backing photos/videos from devices. To disable it, go to your OneDrive settings via the small cloud icon in your taskbar, then to the gear on top right and to syncronizing. There you can disable to save all photos/videos from devices. Hope this helps, Lea
Nice video.
Thanks!
I am so confused about Onedrive - As an older person (81) I find it very hard to understand how it works and my head is spinning. When I take photos on my phone, I understand they will be shared to my tablet and desktop computers. After they have been shared, I then want to delete them from my phone, but if I do does that then delete from other appliances? This may seem like a simple question to you, but technology is not easy for someone my age, and I only need to keep photos on my main computer (i.e.desktop).
thank you for your information. There are times I cannot get to the internet, so I need to keep all my files locally. How do I tell my files to be available locally? Also, will these files always be kept on my computer?
I have another problem with One Drive. I use a software called "Family Tree Maker. There are data files and media files. I had no idea that One Drive identified the media files as pictures. My data files are no longer linked with my media files. How can this be corrected. The media file and data files have to be linked. I no longer sinc my files to One Drive and I was unable to send pictures to someone by using a flash drive. How can I send copies to someone on a flash drive?
Hi! Yes, if you want to use your files when you are offline, you need to keep a local copy or sync just before going offline.
With the software you are mentioning, I can't help because I am not familiar with it, sorry!
nice one Lea, however, I would like to know how I can edit my file from another device
Hi Kenneth, thanks! Once you have synced all your devices with the same windows account details, all documents should appear on all of your devices and you should be able to edit them. Best, Lea
You are the best!
Thanks! :)
I came across a very tiring problem with onedrive. I ran out of space on it and tried to un-sync my files, but when I do it, everything from my desktop disappears, besides icons and files that are not connected to OneDrive for some reason. I can't choose folders, they're unclickable for me.
Also I downloaded my files to the pc and everything has the full green tick, but when I remove it from onedrive it still disappears from my computer. I have no idea what to do anymore. Nothing I find on the internet helps. It feels like 90% of my device files are in absolute connection with OneDrive.
Are there advantages to using the One Drive desktop app vs the browser version?
Hi Alison! In general, there is not big difference. The only advantage I see using the desktop app/OneDrive in file explorer is that it's a lot easier to access and very native to use, just like you would use any other local folder. Eventually, however, it's a matter of personal preference. All the best, Lea
I have huge problems with OneDrive and have uninstalled it on both of my Win 11 computers and my Samsung A54 Android cell. 90% of my "Documents" Folder are missing, but are in OneDrive when I use the Web OneDrive. Trying to download to my Win 11 Computers is nearly impossible as I have 0ver 350GB in OneCloud. Can you offer some help?
It would be helpful to open with the settings section and the importance of configuration of Windows default folders and saving documents locally. My problem has been that users do NOT recognize that they are synching Desktop, Documents and Pictures to OneDrive. Then when they go to Unsync their OneDrive, their files are only on OneDrive and they panic because they think they deleted everything.
I see the challenge there. Hope people can still find their way and get better with OneDrive after having watched my video.
Is it alright to disable onedrive from startup, and open it every now and then so it can upload my files?
Sure, shouldn't be a problem!
Hi, thanks for your video. I am currently trying to move all my files from my old computer to my new one. I have one drive logged in on both computers. I used the File Explorer way to move my files over. I thought everything was going great & I was so happy.... Until I realized that NONE of my PDF files were transfered over. I use Nitro Pro for my PDF creation & editing, in case that's important... I've been searching for answers, but have not been able to figure it out yet! Any ideas?
Hi Eva, sorry to hear that you have experienced these issues. I have never come across this issue but what you might want to check is to have Nitro Pro installed on both devices. Also, instead of moving the PDFs you might want to try to copy and paste them and finally, you could try to use the browser version to move the files if everything else does not work. Hope you find a solution and all the best, Lea
Hi Lea! I am trying to share my document so people "can only review". Since there is no option for that how can I do it? There is only "can edit" and "can view".. Thank you for your time:)
Hi Nicolas! Indeed, I believe there are only those two options. So if you want the other person to comment the document, you need to let them "edit" since only "viewing" permission will not let them edit. Best, Lea
Outlook .pst files will not syncronizie on OneDrive and causing issue, can you show us how to fix this issue
Hi, I have never come across this issue and therefore, cannot comment. Sorry but hope you can find an answer by googling. Best, Lea
I would love some help in transferring many files from my Office One Drive to my Personal One Driver, both on the same PC. For years I've been saving documents and personal photos on the wrong One Drive. e.g. 50,000 photos and videos. I should do this soon. Many thanks. Bob
Hi Bob, helping you remotely is quite tricky. It shouldn’t be too difficult, just drag and drop the files from one to the other?! Best, Lea
Is there a way to link your Download folder to OneDrive? I looked at the folders available and the ones that are available are in the Document Folder. Thanks, Ken
Hi Ken, I have not tried this myself but I believe there is a way to do it:
Open a File explorer window. Right click on "Downloads" on the left and select "properties".
Select "Path", then "move". Then select the folder you would like to move it to. (e.g. %userprofile%\OneDrive\Downloads). Hope this works, Lea
Lea, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I will definitely try this and see how this works out.
nice
👍
How do I download all my files from OneDrive to my external drive to reduce my storage in OneDrive?
You could copy them and then store them on the other drive.
Hi Is it possible to sync files in One Drive cloud with files on my PC documents without putting them in One Drive folder in Explorer? Thesame way as Google Drive=
Yes, that should be possible!
How do I copy a word doc in one drive and copy it to a LibreOffice?
Hi, just move or copy the word doc into your target OneDrive folder. Then, you should be able to open it in LibreOffice as well. Not sure where the problem is if you have all the applications installed? Best, Lea
How do I delete older file versions in history?
Thanks for the video, If my company is paying 6 MS 365 Business Standard, how could we make it possible to share a pool of documents in just OneDrive with access to all staff?
That's a very specific question for which you should probably rather address the MS support.
Hello Lea, I try to print PDF files stored in OneDrive while access them within a browser. However the web-version OneDrive always prompt me to download the PDF to local, which I found very inconvenient. Anyway I can print the PDF without downloading them?
Hi Brian, haven't come across this problem and don't have an answer to this. Sorry! Even though it might be inconvenient maybe just do it like that if it takes more time to find another solution 🙈
I do not want to store my files on a cloud. But I still want to use MS Word. What can I do?
You can still use MS word and the just store your files on your local drive 👍
One drive slows down my computer if I save files on the device. Should I stop syncing all folders or files? or What's your opinion?
Hi. I would only sync those files and folders you need regular access to. But feel free to try it out if this improves performance or not. Maybe it's also a device issue...
Hello. There are different folders that are important to me on different drives on my computer. For example, "My projects", "Software" and so on. I want to upload all these folders to OneDrive. I need this for backup. I also want all changes in these folders to be synchronized with OneDrive. How can I do it?
I found the ability to synchronize “Pictures”, “Desktop”, “Documents” and several more “standard” folders. But I don’t see how I can add the folders I need to synchronization.
This is quite easy to do with Google Drive. What about OneDrive?
Hi, I believe I have explained how to sync specific folders in the video. To chose the folders you want to sync you need to go via the OneDrive settings and then select the ones you want to sync or not. First, however, you need to move/copy the folders or files you want into your OneDrive space via the browser or the file explorer. Hope this helps, Lea
@@LeaDavid Thanks for the answer.
"you need to move/copy the folders or files you want into your OneDrive space via the browser or the file explorer" - this option does not suit me. This is why I immediately wrote: “There are different folders that are important to me on different drives on my computer.”.
I can't move or copy all the folders that are important to me to my OneDrive folder.
When I right-click on any folder, I can add it to the Google Drive sync. What about OneDrive? Is there such a possibility?
I opened the files on Drive. However you dont mention that Microsoft products dont open. I have Microsoft 365 Office. In order to open Microsoft files i have to go to start button open office and than click on drive. However .pdf files do open directly from Drive. I have seen some solutions on default file associations however they dont work. Do you have a solution or i have to first open 365 Office & than open Drive? Many thanks!
Hi, I am sorry to hear that your MS files do not directly open from OneDrive. I do not know this issue since it works perfectly fine for me. I believe this might be due to a number of reasons you might want to check, such as the file persmissions, default file settings, file access settings, OneDrive/MS settings etc. Sorry for such an inconclusive answer but that's really hard to judge remotely. Best, Lea
Hi do you know if I can get the 1TB OneDrive plan without using office 365?
Hi there! I believe it's only possible to get 100GB without purchasing access for additional apps. Please check out their pricing here: www.microsoft.com/en/microsoft-365/onedrive/compare-onedrive-plans-b?market=af
hi , I'm from sri lanka , like to know about full indexing blogger with Microsoft cloud API
Hi Damith, thanks for your questions. However, since that's a very specific question and I am not sure if I will be able to cover this niche topic in one of my videos. Thanks and best, Lea
