To my ears, Ton gets it absolutely right here. I've always enjoyed his performances of chorale-based organ compositions a bit more than his renditions of the free organ works (with the exception of the trio sonatas, for one). I've been listening to this performance a number of times already, and it continues to sound fresh.
Ton Koopman's performances of the Trio Sonatas are, how shall I put it? Sine qua non? I have not heard better, in any case. And I have tried and almost made it once or twice I daresay. He inspired me to learn them all, anyhow. I won't be trying the #2 nor #6 again, though, in any case. :)
Wasn't it Schubert or Schumann who wrote in a letter to Mendelssohn that if they lost all hope in life, this chorale prelude alone could restore it? Thank you once again, NBS and Ton Koopman!
Wonderful! I’ve been waiting for this one! Will you make collections later when all pieces of a certain group have been uploaded (for example all Leipziger Choräle or all of the Orgelbüchlein in one video)?
To sing along with the chorale: Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele Soul, adorn yourself with graces, Lass die dunkle Sündenhöhle, Run away from sin's dark places, Komm ans helle Licht gegangen, Come to where the light is shining; Fange herrlich an zu prangen! In God's royal courts you're dining. Denn der Herr, voll Heil und Gnaden, For the Lord of your salvation Läßt dich iitzt zu Gaste laden; Offers you an invitation; Der den Himmel kann verwalten God of power past all telling Will jetzt Herberg in dir halten. Chooses you to be his dwelling.
Vielen Dank ... one feels how deeply Bach felt every word, and it is lovely to be able to read and sing along! My second language is German, so I actually can do both -- danke schoen, even!
One does feel that Bach, in this piece, is providing the best invitation to Christ that music permits. I remember first hearing it ... life-changing ... I am already a Christian, but it reminded me of the awesome privilege of living every day to prepare the soul for communion with God in Christ ... no matter what else is going on, one may choose love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, patience, meekness, self-control, and faith for the soul, and adorn it for fellowship with God and all those who understand what the Spirit does. One may also NOT CHOOSE ... but this piece makes one seriously question why would one not choose a life so holy and beautiful?
didn't you think that you might turn every mind that reads your comment to think of the joke you promised that you were not making? especially by making note of what the joke would've been about and the particular innuendo you were going to use.
"The highest object and end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the renewal of the soul." - J.S. bach
Thank you! That is a great statement by the greatest composer of music praising the LORD!
@@alpinoalpini3849 Speaking of insufferable…
I think Bach was just being self depreciating when he said that. He knew very well he was the best.
Soli deo gloria
coming from someone who billed his employers when he got drunk

Zeer veel dank!
Wonderful to think Bach heard this exactly as we are hearing it today!
Or even to have played this exactly as we hear it!
A peaceful and very beautiful Bach chorale that touches with its wonderful organ sound thank you🍃
Perfect... JUST PERFECT.
Played with many réflexion and manyyyy years of practice
The résult is there
BRAVO ET MERCI
we must never forget what a gift we receive from Bach, the instrument and the player - so much work to bring it to us!
One of my very favorite hymn tunes. It’s been treated so well by many composers, especially JSB. Thank you.

Can honestly say I never heard this piece, but it's beautiful and sounds amazing.

Those ornaments are expertly, and effortlessly!, performed. Bravo!
Wonderful presentation. The Schoenberg transcription, like this, is also lovely.
Wonderful!
Absolutely wonderful.
Ton Koopman is one of the best, thank you for uploading this!

Awesomely awesome musical masterpiece.

In all fairness, having heard this cantata, Bach is truly considered a kind of a fifth evangelist.

Prachtig
Today, October 22nd, 2024, is the 300th Anniversary.
In English---"Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness", literally: Adorn yourself, O dear soul
❤❤❤
Mike Ermantraut is killer on the organ
waltuh
hemelse muziek
I am so tempted to make a joke about Bach and what he could do with his "big organ", but it seems a shame to demean this wonderful performance.

I heard he could work wonders with his little spinet also.

Nie! Keinen einzigen Ton!
Not great...
Because?
boring
