"Hello Class!" Being a teacher myself, you actually are running your channel like a true teacher should. Starting with an "anticipatory set" or attention getter to start. Next, using consistent flow and language, each class being a similar structure, but different content. Next, student participation- using the viewer comments to drive the instruction. And most importantly, engaging and relevant content. Using humor, stories, and other experts in the field to teach ideas. And of course, demonstrating the ideas in context. Thank you teacher.
I completely agree on the Derek Trucks reference. I met him when he was 13 playing at a local bar. His dad was his manager. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. He was born with it. The spirit of Duane lives in him but he took that even further. A stunning musician.
I love how Tom always unconsciously throws a couple strums on his guitar mid sentence! Like he is always connected to his instrument... even when lost in thought!
I met Derek working Crossroads backstage in Chicago 2010. A true gentleman. We talked about music and guitars for about 30 minutes. He graciously took a picture with me. How cool is that? A world class player taking time to visit with a teamster loading trucks on the dock.
Derek Trucks plays notes like he’s reached into the actual soul of the note and asked it if he can expose it’s beauty to world.... and All notes give him permission. It’s absolutely beautiful and amazing to experience Dereks Playing. This Homeskoolin’ student loves what you do, Thank you Tom.....Still waiting for some Elliott Easton!! Come on now!!
Trucks is every thing everyone say about him...that is, awesome. But for me anyway, his tone was very shrill earlier in his career. Those issues have been dealt with, but it still was a turn off for me back in the day.
From the Good Book: "When I was a punk, I spake as a punk, I understood as a punk, I thought as a punk: but when I became a man, I put away punk ass attitudes..." You totally rock, Tom!!!
Hey Tom, seriously you really need to make an album of guitar instrumentals based on the chord progressions used in Homeskoolin". - you could even use Homeskoolin' as the title. And maybe a couple of the tracks could be "featuring Sarah Buxton". I'd buy it!
LOL Thank you for the clarification after the ellipsis. You had me a little nervous there! You do realize that Professor Buk is known to make examples of those who act out in class for attention? ;)
Deal Uncle Larry, Thank you for sharing your skill with us. Thank you for sharing the knowledge only gained from the hard work you’ve done. Thank you for the advice and help avoiding wasteful ambitions in both life and guitar playing. Because of you, while playing guitar, I’m starting to use my pinky, I use the shoulder of the pick when needed. I’m learning to use the “claw”. Im buying less gear and practicing more and noodling less. I’m getting better and I love it. Humbly grateful for your knowledge and honesty, The ReAL Homeskooled kids.

Hi Tom, watching "Kenny Rogers : Biography" doco here on TV in Australia and there's footage of that tribute concert to Kenny Rogers with Kenny Aronoff on drums and Don Was on bass and who do I see on the white telecaster ? our hero Tom Bukovac ! Yeay !
I know you’re super busy now with your studio sessions and raising a family. Thanks for making time for this channel. You’re a hell of a guitar player - completely underrated - and a super cool dude. It’s an honor to learn from you.
Derek. Trucks. Period. It's great to hear someone who knows what they're talking about (you) who agrees with my long-held "best living guitarist" view! Great minds! Keep up the great work!
Fuckn aye about Trucks slide playing, he's definitely holding that down... damn near untouchable!! Huge fan of this channel by the way. Keep home skoolin us!!!
Tom, I don't think I've ever seen someone take a stick in the eye so graciously. Thanks for keeping it positive, I think you've covered an enormous amount of ground.
Hey Tom, I listened on my way to the office this morning as usual and just loved this backing track/progression. I chuckled repeatedly at the multiple F bombs peppered throughout today's class. We all know that Uncle Larry is a sensitive soul...it pains me to hear douchey comments from the viewer comments bin. Thankfully, they don't represent the class. That guy's comment was even more ludicrous than the one early on griping about the Beatles. I appreciate how you share with us, your class. It's like a big ole one room school house where the teacher has to teach all the grades at once and it somehow not only works, it's damn fun! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
From 1:15 to 1:25 , just pure soul. If you can't feel that, you must be dead. Haven't watched the whole video yet, but this is sounding like a good example of how playing less can be much more expressive.
I busted out laughing twice on this one... especially for "this would be my favorite coffee mug even if it said Gildan on it." Dang. Somebody make one and send it to him :)
Hey Tom. You are the definition of a badass. I have watched and learned all the information and that was the first “sorry” mistake. You are the definition of a badass. Thank you for your kindness and knowledge
Derek Trucks and Tommy Emmanuel are two of the best that i never fully got the hype about until I saw them live. My dad grew up going to Allman Bros concerts and said Dwayne was the best he ever heard. When I took him to see Derek a few years ago he flipped out. He can play one note and make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Such a rare gift.
Hi Tom, guitar Yoda! You talk so modestly about your homeskoolin' but with your playing and stories you teach me a lot about making music and how this is intertwined with life in general (follow your heart and use your mind, stand for what you believe in, give all you've got and don't give a f%$# sometimes). Thanks man.

Thanks from an ol' guy trying to learn guitar after the first attempt 50 some years ago. While i can't do much yet, and probably won't have 10,000 hours to catch up, I love what you show, your gracious attitude, and what you share with us . By the way, I still have my 60 something Les Paul Jr, which I bought back then. It still sounds awesome.
"Who's gonna pick up a slide after that guy?" - Brother, I kinda sorta feel that way about guitar in general with guys like you, Tim Pierce and Rhett Shull kicking about. 😂 Oh, well. Still gonna play till my fingers hurt.

Hey Tom, me and some of my buddies here in Cleveland have been digging your videos since this whole Covid-19 thing started. I had been reading your name on album credits for years (I’m a country fan) and always just assumed that you were just a electric rhythm player (which you are fucking awesome at) but never knew how great of an all around picker that you are. Your lead playing is killer. I have been playing acoustic now for the past 2 yrs gigging little bars with my drummer on my ‘87 D35. When the bars around here got shut down (happy to say they have since opened back up and we’re booking shows again) I have been picking the ol’ tele and LP again. Your approach to rhythm/lead playing has really inspired me to fire up the Marshall tubes again and rock out some electric guitar, so thank you for that, I’ve even went as far as to gig with the whole 5 piece band one night. We all love ya here in CLE and please keep cranking out the killer videos and representing Cleveland the way you do. We’re super proud to have you as a CLE school of hard knocks alumni
This thing I love about Tom is that he is an utter Badass, a bone crushing master of guitar domination, and he knows it and still remains matter-of-fact about it. seriously - man I listen cuz i love guitar and Tom's killer on lead but have to jot down all the progressions for home use!
These are like his album. More pure, less produced, raw, just great.
would help us as a class as we'll having some stuff we can jam to!
Agree @zerr0ww. Plus hints on what scale or arpeggios to play with.
