It's worth noting also that Roshi doesn't actually HAVE to catch bullets. He can tank them; they hurt him, but he can tank them. Jaraiya lives in a universe where throwing knives are a realistic concern.
It's also worth noting who actually throws the knife. If you're in a tank and I throw a Knive at the tank, you're fine as the tank will protect you. If Superman throws the knife, the fact you're in a tank is probably irrelevant

And we already know that at his base level he's bullet proof, because OG Android 17 was bullet proof, and he's a complete weakling compared to base Goku at this point). We also have no idea how powerful that ray gun was. Ray guns are powerful enough that they remained the primary weapon of Frieza's fighting force, despite many of those soldiers having a power levels in the thousands. Which suggests that the 'common ray guns' are still much more powerful weapons than almost anything in the Naruto universe.

Well obviously, there are so many fights where what would actually happen is ignored, because it's a Death Battle, they have to contrive it so someone ends up dead. There's this one, the more recent Obi Wan vs Kakashi one would have ended with Kenobi cooperating with Kakashi at the start, the Goku vs Superman ones would have actually been Goku asking to spar and so neither goes for a killing blow of course and at the end they shake hands then go out for food...
Granted, Naruto (or should I say Boruto) are onto the gods of their own world now, and, technically, Naruto did defeat the god of his world (Kaguya) with the help of Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sakura I might add.

The only thing Jiraiya has over Roshi is drip.
This, this is by far how most of the death battles with Dragon Ball/Naruto characters should end, them and whoever they fight just becoming best friends and skipping into the sunset.

I think the idea is that, unlike Chi/Chakra "magic" (at least in the DBZ universe) is quoted as coming from outside the body. I fail to see how it's a comedy feat. It was literally used to stop Great Ape Goku from killing anyone, and it impacted the story. The moon was recreated by Kami much later. That is, in no way, played up for laughs

Not sure alot of people know this, but buff roshi isn't a transformation. That's his actual form. He just nearly always suppress his ki, him getting buff is not a power up, it's more like at most given times he's only giving it like 30% and when he gets buff that's him giving it 100%
It's technically a transformation in the same way Friezas final 100% form is. Yes it's their true and full power but it's still a transformation to get there
actually, it's not his default state. He flexes his muscles to their maximum in order to be able to handle the strain of his outputs. A lot of characters do this. Cell and Goku even commented that it's a detriment because your body can't function normally and expends a lot of energy and movement in order to barely function.

One can literally blow up the moon, can fight several alien soldiers at once, and is considered strong enough to contend in a multiversal tournament to the death, while the other one Is the same but cant do those things.
The problem is Roshi's power levels are wacky, Ya he blew up the moon in Dragonball yet couldn't do jack when the very weak Raditz came to Earth. This issue is all over the place in the Dragonball Universe. Vagitta without effort blew up a planet in DBZ Saiyan saga and later at much higher power levels could only blow up mountains and scorch the earth instead of obliterating it. In the Cell saga Vagitta used every ounce of his power to kill Cell and only created a crater instead of vaporizing the planet. Vagitta's power level in the Saiyan saga was 18,000 his power level in the Cell saga was 2,200,000,000. You can't really compare them since DBZ is inconsistent as hell.

Considering they have 3D models in some games (most recent ones being MVC Infinite for Thanos and Injustice 2 for Darkseid), I don’t see many reasons why it wouldn’t be 3D, aside from time and work animating the fight itself.

Ok, while I'm not contesting the results as the moon busting feat far outweighs anything Jiraiya could perform. Someone in the animation team clearly didn't understand how the Toad Confrontation Chant works. The entire point of the Jutsu is that the victim's real body is helpless so Jiraiya can stab them in the real world. He doesn't try to stab them in the Genjutsu! Jiraiya dying because his own Genjutsu rendered him unable to react to what was actually happening around him is literally the exact opposite of what the technique does. (Nevermind the silliness of Roshi being comatose but somehow managing to keep perfect punching posture instead of just slumping over and bowling into Jiraiya harmlessly.) Really the fight would've ended when Jiraiya tried to match the Kamehameha with the Big Ball Rasengan. With Jiraiya being overpowered and destroyed by the moon busting attack.

Without conscious control keeping your body in a position against things like wind and gravity, Roshi would flop into the most aerodynamic shape he can at any given moment while continuing his current direction and speed. In other words he'd ragdoll. And between who's actually aware enough to adjust his posture and the one who's flopping through the air like an inflatable tube man, the most Roshi would accomplish at that point would be bowling Jiraiya over. Again, Roshi would win when the rasengan and kamehameha clashed. Hell, attack struggles like that are even a DBZ staple. The simple fact that he can't fly, doesn't sleep standing in perfect posture, and has fallen over or been blown away by something (which he absolutely has) means he's still subject the same basic physics as a person. If you're trying to show Roshi wins based on might, there are better ways to do it than getting the opponents technique exactly wrong, or ignoring physics entirely for an ending that implies the fighter won by bumbling into it rather than any skill or strength on his part.
@@Animestar21 In the real world yes, they are the same concept. But in these anime worlds they are different. In Dragon Ball everyone has ki. That Ki can be increased with intense training. You can go from a basic human to able to destroy galaxies with enough training. In Naruto only certain people are born with Chakra and whatever amount you are born with is it. No amount training will increase how much you have. The only exceptions to getting more is either have a tailed beast that gives you theirs or have an item that can take from someone else and give it to you.

@@Animestar21 I did forget about the increasing chakra. And as you said it is limited mainly by genetics. For Dragon Ball though mental training doesn't increase Ki. Only gives better control and certain abilities. Like protecting your mind from mental attacks, sensing others Ki, raising and lowering ki at will, and in Goku's case teleporting. You can be dumb as a rock in Dragon Ball and still be one of the most powerful beings in that world.

I think its less about the canonicity, and more about the fact that this fight is already a stomp in Roshi's favor, so they didn't want to make it seem even less probable that Jiraiya would be able to put up a fight.

The only way Naruto characters can win is top level genjutsu or other mental attacks, or curses that cause instant death or something. Any normal combat attack is pretty much worthless due to the sheer power difference.

'Hurt', but not injured. At worst, they get grazed or bruised. And the only time that's happened recently is when they've powered down to almost nil (Goku powered down so he could finger flick those bandits without killing them, and his ki control was compromised so he couldn't raise it back up to base levels quick enough. And we already know that at his base level he's bullet proof, because OG Android 17 was bullet proof, and he's a complete weakling compared to base Goku at this point).
We also have no idea how powerful that ray gun was. Ray guns are powerful enough that they remained the primary weapon of Frieza's fighting force, despite many of those soldiers having a power levels in the thousands. Which suggests that the 'common ray guns' are still much more powerful weapons than almost anything in the Naruto universe.

Chakra may not be straight magic, but even Death Battle admits it's basically Naruto's version of the concept. I think the idea is that, unlike Chi/Chakra "magic" (at least in the DBZ universe) is quoted as coming from outside the body. So the closest thing Naruto would have is Sage Style where the user draws in natural energy for power.

For anyone who's keep thinking and saying "Roshi blowing up the moon is a comedy feat, and thus an outlier," the moon feat is actually fairly consistent after he blew it up
Such as how when Roshi as Jackie Chun fought a Werewolf because he was mad him for blowing up the moon, and Kami using his power to reconstruct the moon are official plot points
And how Roshi in official guides and promotional material is titled as "The warrior that blew up the Moon"
Plus the fact that Roshi being able to hang with planet and Galaxy busters without slowing down (even defeating a bird warrior who Roshi himself said could give Goku and Vegeta trouble if they stayed around longer) further proves this.
I fail to see how it's a comedy feat. It was literally used to stop Great Ape Goku from killing anyone, and it impacted the story. The moon was recreated by Kami much later. That is, in no way, played up for laughs

Not only has there been plenty of gag moments before the moon busting feat (Goku hitting Yamcha so hard he shattered a manga panel, taking the rabbit mob to the moon to make mochi ect ect) but the fight between Jackie Chun and Goku was fairly gag based well, such as the drunken fist part of the fight and Goku using his tail like a propellor
Though again, by the context of the story and impact of the moon being destroyed it's not a one time gag, otherwise there wouldn't be so many moments to keep it consistent (like the Werewolf's goals to why he wants to beat Jackie Chun or Kami being stated to have re constructed the moon for example)

Not sure alot of people know this, but buff roshi isn't a transformation. That's his actual form. He just nearly always suppress his ki, him getting buff is not a power up, it's more like at most given times he's only giving it like 30% and when he gets buff that's him giving it 100%
If it is his ki changing his physical physiology, its a transformation, regardless of if it is to dumb down the muscles, or increase them.
It's technically a transformation in the same way Friezas final 100% form is. Yes it's their true and full power but it's still a transformation to get there
actually, it's not his default state. He flexes his muscles to their maximum in order to be able to handle the strain of his outputs. A lot of characters do this. Cell and Goku even commented that it's a detriment because your body can't function normally and expends a lot of energy and movement in order to barely function.

The problem is Roshi's power levels are wacky, Ya he blew up the moon in Dragonball yet couldn't do jack when the very weak Raditz came to Earth. This issue is all over the place in the Dragonball Universe. Vagitta without effort blew up a planet in DBZ Saiyan saga and later at much higher power levels could only blow up mountains and scorch the earth instead of obliterating it. In the Cell saga Vagitta used every ounce of his power to kill Cell and only created a crater instead of vaporizing the planet. Vagitta's power level in the Saiyan saga was 18,000 his power level in the Cell saga was 2,200,000,000. You can't really compare them since DBZ is inconsistent as hell.

A trick like Jiraiya's would only have saved him if he could also dodge while using it. Disabling the train conductor won't stop the train; you still need to get off the tracks to avoid getting hit.

All dat aside tho, I think a better fight would be Naruto vs Ichigo since that's a fight you make a strong case of Naruto winning unlike him against Goku since realistically speaking Base Goku one taps the verse.

Ok, while I'm not contesting the results as the moon busting feat far outweighs anything Jiraiya could perform. Someone in the animation team clearly didn't understand how the Toad Confrontation Chant works.
The entire point of the Jutsu is that the victim's real body is helpless so Jiraiya can stab them in the real world. He doesn't try to stab them in the Genjutsu! Jiraiya dying because his own Genjutsu rendered him unable to react to what was actually happening around him is literally the exact opposite of what the technique does. (Nevermind the silliness of Roshi being comatose but somehow managing to keep perfect punching posture instead of just slumping over and bowling into Jiraiya harmlessly.)
Really the fight would've ended when Jiraiya tried to match the Kamehameha with the Big Ball Rasengan. With Jiraiya being overpowered and destroyed by the moon busting attack.
Yeah, some people tried arguing why Roshi kept moving, it's basic physics, things in motion stay in motion. I saw someone on Rooserteeth sum it up perfectly "You can't expect a Swinging Wrecking ball to stop swinging when you turn off the engine."
@@MrBda241 yeah but human posture isn't a wrecking ball. Without conscious control keeping your body in a position against things like wind and gravity, Roshi would flop into the most aerodynamic shape he can at any given moment while continuing his current direction and speed.
In other words he'd ragdoll.
And between who's actually aware enough to adjust his posture and the one who's flopping through the air like an inflatable tube man, the most Roshi would accomplish at that point would be bowling Jiraiya over.
Again, Roshi would win when the rasengan and kamehameha clashed. Hell, attack struggles like that are even a DBZ staple. They'd clash, be even for a bit, then Roshi would just pour more power in for the KO.

@@MrBda241 It really doesn't matter that he's super human. The simple fact that he can't fly, doesn't sleep standing in perfect posture, and has fallen over or been blown away by something (which he absolutely has) means he's still subject the same basic physics as a person.
If you're trying to show Roshi wins based on might, there are better ways to do it than getting the opponents technique exactly wrong, or ignoring physics entirely for an ending that implies the fighter won by bumbling into it rather than any skill or strength on his part.

roshi blew up the moon, a feat which is considered god tier in Naruto. Roshi does not hold chakra, so he is unaffected by genjutsu. He wins.

@@Animestar21 In the real world yes, they are the same concept. But in these anime worlds they are different. In Dragon Ball everyone has ki. That Ki can be increased with intense training. You can go from a basic human to able to destroy galaxies with enough training. In Naruto only certain people are born with Chakra and whatever amount you are born with is it. No amount training will increase how much you have. The only exceptions to getting more is either have a tailed beast that gives you theirs or have an item that can take from someone else and give it to you.

For Dragon Ball though mental training doesn't increase Ki. Only gives better control and certain abilities. Like protecting your mind from mental attacks, sensing others Ki, raising and lowering ki at will, and in Goku's case teleporting. You can be dumb as a rock in Dragon Ball and still be one of the most powerful beings in that world.

I think its less about the canonicity, and more about the fact that this fight is already a stomp in Roshi's favor, so they didn't want to make it seem even less probable that Jiraiya would be able to put up a fight.
I think it's tough to beat characters from Dragonball Z/Super in general; the power scaling of that universe is nuts.

I was worried about Roshi losing to the croaking thing but was surprised that it didn't end up as an ace.
The only way Naruto characters can win is top level genjutsu or other mental attacks, or curses that cause instant death or something. Any normal combat attack is pretty much worthless due to the sheer power difference.
