    Shadow of Mordor and shadow of war are also good examples of games with massive NPC battle. And let me tell you charging a fort with an army or orcs behind you is a really exciting feeling

    speaking of ai battles, the ones ive found the most satisfying are the battles in sekiro. almost all the ai in that game are equipped to outplay the player through the posture and deflect system instead of face tanking hits like almost any other rpg ai; which in turn instead of making it a slug fest of who has the most hp or the highest dps, it turns into a dance between two opponents trying to deflect and counter, and using their moveset to get the edge while minimizing loss, deciding whether to commit to an attack or block, or maybe dodge out of range and use their ranged weapons or simply out manoeuvre them and chip away.

    For me PvE is just us fighting the Devs. Still a player, but one who foreseen our movements.
    I had enough of people wanting of only PvP games but failed Hard PvE miserably. People who played PvP now are beyond skillful at this point. Honestly, PvP barely gets memorable these days.

    I've loved this in every game I've ever seen it in. when playing RTS games sometimes I've started games with only AI, or even starting a singleplayer skirmish and immediately deleting my HQ to go into spectator mode if that isn't an option. and that isn't even mentioning games like half-life and halo that have occasional fights between various sides. growing up with RTS games made me especially appreciate these when the sides have different enemy/unit types, and behaviors (halo's organized alien military vs the flood who throw themselves into combat in droves with zero self-preservation, for example)

    games like Eximius and urban assault, planetside 2, From the Depths and the likes is what really appealed to me. When you go to battle, you are not doing it alone, the more we get into it, the more we crave an even more massive battle.
    We want games likse battlefield. 64 vs 64? too small, planetside 2 has 200 vs 200, and can have up to 1000 vs 1000 on a single continent.
    Imagine if those 64 players has command over their own AI squad or AI platoon.
    it would turn into 512 vs 512. 3072 vs 3072, infantry, tanks, ships, aircraft, instead of the mockery people call war but you can travel for the map 1-2km and not see a soul. We need an even more massive battle where the players can take part in while controlling a massive army. All the FPS game these day are getting too small for us.

    Your channel is criminally underrated! And you're back with a topic l've never even considered!
    My own impressions of A.I. battles aren't as positive as yours - I always feel a layer of disconnect with what's happening because I know the fighters don't experice any of the emotions I do. This is most obvious in how they approach their own health. When I'm one magic pixel away from death, I'm a mix of panicked and focused. I play slowly, cautiosuly, I don't charge in or make risky advances, because even a tiny scratch and I'm dead! The A.I., on the other hand, doesn't care - they're in a constant, suicidal offensive, and they feel none of the fear, tension or desperation which might put a real player "in the zone". It's hard for me to think "that A.I. made a comeback" when I know that it's behaving exactly as it always has, and the "comeback" only came about due to exceptional luck.
    But I'm incredibly curious now. Has any game dev actually designed enemy A.I. specifically to have it fight with and react to other NPCs? Is there A.I. which can recognize when it's outnumbered or in a disadvantageous position? I think the moment an NPC close-ranged fighter realises that charging directly at an opponent with long distance attacks is a terrible idea and retreats to change their strategy, these fights will become truly captivating to me. To truly appreciate the battle, I'd need to have some kind of "theory of mind" applying to the fighters - I want "what are they thinking?" to be a valid question in these A.I. battles.

      FYI a melee fighters best option is almost always charging directly at a long distance opponent, unless the long distance opponent is rather stationary and it's possibly for you to walk through cover to get closer to them before charging straight at them. If they aren't largely stationary then they'll just move away from the cover concealing the melee dude, and because of the range disadvantage for the melee dude any time spent not closing the distance is time spent loosing health for no benfit to themselves.

    • @Halucygeno
      @Halucygeno 2 года назад

      @@Santisima_Trinidad Fair enough, but I assumed there might be some kind of terrain which could possibly allow them to flank or stay concealed, otherwise they're just a slightly moving target, getting easier and easier to hit as they approach. I wasn't very specific about my hypothetical, which is my fault, but I was hoping you'd be charitable and imagine a situation where what I proposed makes sense, since I was trying to make a point, not debate the validity of a head-on charge as a battle strategy.

    • @Santisima_Trinidad
      @Santisima_Trinidad 2 года назад

      @@Halucygeno i did try to consider your viewpoint, hence the section about thete being cover and a fairly stationary ranged opponent (even in terrain which allows for concealment and flanking, the rangwd guy moving away is still a big problem for the melee guy) but A you werent specific, so i was simply telling you were wrong in general, and B the terrain in these AI battles is typically pretty simple, not complex. Only real exception i can think of is UEBS 1 and 2, and in 2 you do get the AI enacting large flanking manouvers by going around through cover, and the other AI force responding to that organically if in attack mode as well, although that flanking only occurs when you have pretty large armies on the field. Luckily, Its UEBS, the entire point is large armies. If your doing a fight with 100 versus 1000 you're doing it wrong, and need to pump those numbers up.
