Don't get me wrong, I like Bruce, is one of my favourites singers but... technically, Bayley's voice fits better with the album theme (The BB's era, obviously). Depression, anger, madness, fits great with the voice and slow and quiet intros and interludes. His voice has potential, so bad Blaze Bayley work is underrated. But at the end, it's just an opinion.

    • @Antares-dw9iv

      Well on the other hand Bayley doing Dickinsons songs sounds even worse. They're are just two completely different types of vocalists and having them sing each others songs is just a bad idea. It's the same with Osbourne and Dio in Sabbath.

    Even though Bruce is a very different singer from the late great Freddie, the man totally nailed the feel of the song right IMO. He has the powerful round sound that fits rock, metal and classical crossovers, although he does not sound like an opera singer in any way.

    Freddy appeals to falsettos several times in the original. Bruce doesn't do it ONCE here.
    Also, if you want to compare both, imagine Freddy covering an Iron Maiden tune like Where Eagles Dare. God no.

    • @sebastiangreco6482
      @sebastiangreco6482 9 лет назад +8

      fpsqt Freddy use falsetto and full chest voice, you can compare with live and record. Maybe Freddie could sing that, maybe not, we dont know, BUT, Bruce, as big as he is, CANT cover all the diferent styles, the matices, the phrase, or use a falsetto so great as in Excersise in Free Love. That where Mercury is put as one of he best of all time. Not becouse he could do ALL best than enybody. He could do A LOT better than anybody, and he can also do A LOT MORE styles and interpretation than anybody. You can imagin Dickinson singing My Melancholy Blues, then Bring Back That Leroy Brown, then Headlong, then I Want To Break Free, then Cool Cat, Get Down Make Love, then Staying Power, then Man on the Prowl, then Need Your Loving Tonight, then Sheer Heart Attack, then March of the Black Queen, then Funny How Love, then, Rain Must Fall, then Party, then Millionare Waltz, etc, etc, etc.

      Sebastian Greco
      Dude I can totally picture Bruce Dickinson singing some of these songs. What doesn't fit Bruce : stuff like My Melancholy Blues. That is soft falsetto. Falsetto is like cheating. Like that dude from The Darkness, lol. But I guess it's ok to use it when you're singing a soft song in which you don't want to sing in a high volume. Bring Back That Leroy Brown? Come on that song is so full of overdubs Freddie's voice almost never comes out alone. And when it does, oh yeah, Bruce coud TOTALLY sing that. Just like "I want to be free", what are you talking about, of course Bruce could sing that one. I know you think Freddie is above all singers, but come on, don't come up with absurd statements like "Dickinson could never sing I Want to Be free". That is just ridiculous.
      Now there is nothing ridiculous in picturing Freddy failing at singing Where Eagles Dare. He would have gone falsetto all the way and it would sound ridiculous. Freddy couldnt hit high notes screaming like Dickinson, Gillan, Kiske or Halford. I mean, can you picture Freddy Mercury singing "I want out" by Helloween? LOL. But it's OK, Queen's music is not so energetic like heavy metal, he didnt need to have a powerful voice in high octaves. He did however have an amazing mid-range powerful voice, I'll give you that. Very iconic.

    • @fpsqt
      @fpsqt 9 лет назад +4

      Sebastian Greco
      By the way search for Bruce Dickinson singing "Delilah" by Tom Jones on youtube. Talk about versatility :)

    • @sebastiangreco6482
      @sebastiangreco6482 9 лет назад +1

      fpsqt You are confusing Falsetto with Head Voice. And Falsetto is not cheating at all!!! You need A LOT of control to, well, control that falsetto. And even more to pass from Head Voice to Falsetto without notice it (if you really listen, and know what to listen, then yes, but....) like Excersice in Free Love.
      About other song, i dont said that Dickinson couldn hit the note, i talk about sound. Its har for me to try to explain it in english, is not my language haha. For example, listen to this song, and Dickinson hit the right note, BUT lost the sentiment from the first part. There are matice, phrasing, interpretation. Dickinson, like Barilari have great voice, great range, but they are use to sing in a certain way for most of their carrear.
      I dont say Freddie is above all singers. I dont think that of any singer. There are not a single singer that can sing absolute everything. BUT Mercury was one of the most COMPLETE singers: 4 octaves and a rich Falsetto (about a 6 or another octave), great control over chest voice and head voice. Great interpretation and phrasing. And above all that, a great composer and musician. So, one of the most complete.
      Of course there are singers that can scream higher than Mercury (Roger Taylor, for example, could scream higher notes) But could not be as versatil, or have the hability to swich from chest, to head, to falsetto as easy, or sing a soft sweet song with a soft head voice, and then pass to a powerfull deep chest voice.
      Yes, i hear Delilah from Dickinson, now, where is the versatility? Yes, the lirics, yes the music, but his voice? His sound? ITs THE SAME!!. He didnt adapt his voice, he sing in certain way, all that he sing. Hi use more or less power, he use more or less screams, but he didnt change the style, the sound, head/chest/full voice, prhasing, interpretation, emotions.
      Thats why he cant sing, for example i Want to Break Free, as other songs, Not becouse he couldnt hit that notes, ofcourse he can, there not much range in that song for example, BUT he will sing it as he sings everything, will not adapt to the style, phrasing, emotion, interpretation, head/chest passing, etc. He sing everything with the same sound, etc.
      Now, could had Mercury sing Where Eagles Dare? Sure. As Dickinson does? Probably not. He would had use Falsetto? Ofcourse not. He would had reach the note? Yes to almost all, maybe not the highest with the vibrato/tremolo, but the highest full voice (no Falsetto) live from Mercury was an F6, and in several time he also hit E6 (Dickinson highest note is C6) . Examples? Check for example Dragon Attack. Mercury almost never used falsetto on hard/heavy rock songs. He used his full chest or thick head voice, as you can hear both in studio or live performance of Dragon Attack. But, again, not in the style of Heavy-Operatic-Metal as Dickinson did. Or Barilari (if you dont know his work with Rata Blanca, and you like the style, then you MUST, trust me :) ) So, ofcourse theres songs in witch, althoug mercury could hit the right note, i prefered Dickinson. Its the perfect voice for that style. So, Mercury could be good, decent, even great singing some Heavy Metal songs, BUT, all in all, Dickinson take the crown in that music style. BUT, when you see all the different styles Mercury sing, the different way in wich he used his voice, his register, his coloratura, his interpretation, etc, there a lot more Mercury did that Dickinson cant, that Dickinson did and Mercury couldnt.
      I mean, as you said "can imagine Mercury singing X song from X band?" Probably not, maybe yes. BUT can you imagine "that singer from that band" singing all the songs Mercury sing, in all those styles, with all those techniques, wich all those head/chest/full voice/falsetto, etc?
      I put it in another territory. The Panamerican games are goin on these days. Imagen an atlhet that its great in, for example, 7 sports. And he reach 5 golds and 2 silvers. Then, another atlhet win a Gold when the first one win Silver, and compete in 2 more sport but didnt reach the podium. No dubt the first one with 5 Golds and 2 Silvers in 7 different sports is "better" "more complete" that the one that win 1 Gold (in the one the other win plate) and try to more sports i didnt reach the podium.
      I really hope i could explain myself better this time. Its not my language, be patient please :)
