- Why revivals? What is the significance of the timing when a show, that has either long closed its doors or appeared on stage in smaller venues, gets a significant reboot on Broadway? The recent revivals of Children of a Lesser God and Once on This Island on Broadway shed light on how the revival of two acclaimed shows can impact new audiences and reflect on the current climate of our country, even though they were written for another time.

People such as yourself and Jennifer Holliday who ignited this fire I had as a little black boy from Texas in undergrad seeking knowledge in music and the theatre. Michael Arden is the unsung genius of theatre. Bare, deaf west SA, and now Once in This Island
He's also a wonderful actor. I just saw him in King Lear on Broadway, taking what was a very minor role and making it important and unforgettable.
I really appreciated how he said that “the power of storytelling needs nothing but the human spirit.” This to me is huge because in the theatre it is all about the story. It’s not about the set or the actors it’s truly about the story.
Michael Arden deserves so much more recognition for the amazing work he does
if this doesn’t make you want to see once on this island more, than i don’t know what will. the heart in this production by every single person is more than i’ve ever seen.
OOTI revival was by far one of the best shows i have ever seen. absolutely incredible
The main characters and a lot of the minor and chorus characters are black in the revival... I don't know what your complaining about AT ALL

This was a really interesting video. I really liked that most of it was about the revival of Once on this Island because I love that show and it was really fun seeing the process they had to go through before it opened. This video also gave me a new show to watch: Children of a Lesser God. Can’t wait!
I really appreciated how hard they worked to create this. They would go and see things and try different things out. I loved how they included people that used sign language it made the story so much better.

There is something so special about doing revivals of shows that are centered around tradition, breaking of tradition, and specifically cultural division. These issues seem to be one of the few common pieces of almost every show whether it was a Shakespeare or Rodgers and Hammerstein. It is so interesting to see how these issues, that seem to evolve on the daily, influence the interpretation of a show written decades ago. Shows like this, truly timeless stories, seem to somehow grow more and more relevant each day.

@@charlottep4222 Don't be so pious; nobody mentioned "the wealthy." But a director's fearful Trump will "pop one off," whatever that means (I assume he thinks we're heading for nuclear war since Trump is unhinged). And COLG keeps saying we need to better listen to one another, at the exact time You Tube and Twitter are silencing conservative voices. Finally, several mentions of the hurricanes overwhelming our southern shores (global warming), when in fact hurricane severity and frequency are way down.
I know there can be no Broadway without gay Jewish men and their concomitant radical leftism, but let's not pretend it doesn't exist. Smug is a very unattractive look.
Lots of cultural appropriation going on in the caribbean show, white men and woman stealing the song-styles and stories of black islanders!
