Funny thing about the voice acting, in the development stages of Battlefield 1, they had voice actors lifting weights and doing pushups before and during recordings to bring out the raw energy of combat.
I'd personally dispute the stories. EA and DICE have been bad with making good stories for Battlefield since Bad Company 2. BF1 was a high bar since BC2, but not by that high.
I really missed a short story from the german perspective. Something like "all quiet on the western front" would have been amazing. Especially since the very first mission where the american-and german soldier stop fighting and the moment where the tension releases. It showed there were no "good" or "bad" guys in ww1. Just some young adults trying to do what they think the right thing is. It's tragic.
The most horrifying "battlefield moment" I've ever had was in BF1. It was coincidentally on the same map as the video (I don't remember the name). Someone threw an incendiary grenade through the window of a building full of enemies and you heard the "fwoosh" of the grenade going off followed by muffled screams. Then the door burst open and 3 or 4 guys come running out of the building on fire, still screaming at the top of their lungs. One soldier gets about 2 steps before succumbing to the flames, one dives to the floor because proning puts out fire faster (stop, drop, roll), and the other few guys get turned into mulch by the enemy soldiers waiting outside. The proned guy only got off a shot or two before getting a bullet to the face (I remember his helmet flying off). It was super cinematic, but as I stared at the burning corpses in the sand I was like "Oh my god, what the fuck did I just see."
my horror story in this game is regarding the dreadnaught. The ship was near sinking and so people began bailing, which made them easy pickings. I’m on the shore watching enemies jump Ship and then it explodes in the most gargantuan way possible and assault boats came in and started massacre the people in the water. That’s when I realized this game is fucking serious shit.
As far as I know some voice actors were actually set alight and burned to death while recording to get the authentic feel of war. Their family members like the voice acting so much they allowed the devs to put their last screams in the game
There's something utterly haunting about playing the Somme map. You cant see anything because Smoke and Gas bombs are going off every which way and all you can hear is the screams of dying men muffled by the mist.

While BF1 captures a lot of details the WW1 Series Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo all manage to capture soldiers who weren't killed outright by the bullet that kills them, some of them can scream in pain for 10+ seconds after they get shot

You think that one is wild?? The screams of the men being burned alive, either incendiary grenades or the wex, is still haunting five years later. That pure dedication from each voice actor is part of what made Battlefield 1 such a masterpiece in atmospheric immersion
