I just changed mine you just reach up from the bottom not the top. Feel for the 2 little levers either side of the 3 pin plug. Give them a squeeze in and pull at the same time don’t use brute force. Then pull off rubber cover. Then push the looped part of retaining wire in and across which releases the bulb. Note which way the bulb is seated. Then reverse the procedure. There is no need to take anything apart to change the main bulb.
Don't strip the front of the bike to change bulbs..go up from the bottom of the fering either side of the forks..turning the steering from full left then full right..3min bulb change...easy
Very easy job if you use your opposite hand and face toward the back of the bike then you are not bending your hand backwards, makes it a 10 minute job, you can also come up from underneath, not the side bulbs of course. Thanks for the video, I'm dead keen to try the bright blues they look really effective.
I am 190cm tall and don't have small hands and I managed to change the position bulbs in less than 10 min like in 0:42 without even taking the mirror's covers. The right bulb is harder since there is a rigid pipe probably from the front brakes but still no trouble at all.
Thanks for the video, and after seeing it, I changed a lamp on my bike and found the easiest way to do it ...;) That is, there is no need to remove the cover from the dashboard, if we put our hand under the optics, we have more than enough access to change the damn lamp ... I'm a bit confused about the tabs on the bulbs. You said the tabs on the PIAAs were a little smaller than the OE ones and that you were going to flatten (and broaden?) them out, then you snapped off the tabs on the OE bulb. Next thing I see is the PIAA in place and lit up. I feel like I missed something important here.
Hi, sorry I wasn't more clear. The lower tabs had to be cut because they do not index with the holes on the bikes headlight assembly, however the top tab is a little smaller width wise, and you will notice there is a slight curve to the tab looking from the top. you have to flatten the tab to make it wider to better fit the hole in the headlight assembly. You need the top tab to keep the bulb indexed correctly for the bulb to make the right light pattern on the road, so don't cut the top tab. Hope this helps, Cheers
Just changed my left one and found that by turning the steering to the left I could get a great grip on the plastic clip. I pressed both of the sides of the connector in (the widest span so pressing the shortest ends) and pulled and the connector came off. I tried it with the steering to the right but the suspension Stantion was in the way too much for me to grip the connector enough to press in the sides. Hope this is useful as I tried several ways of getting at it before this way worked. Also try reaching in backwards with you hand behind you as this may also work.
I replaced my crappy oem bulbs with hids years ago. I-got tired of cage-drivers pulling out into me, or passing into my face. Now they cant say they didn’t see me. My riding partners always know where i am. My one complaint….i cant see the speedometer, not a problem really, i just installed an old nuvi gps on speed setting up above on my homemade shelf, with lots of plug-ins.
Just got done with my lights, same as yours. The headlights were quick and easy as I could get to them without disassembling anything but the peanut lights were another story. Thanks again for sharing!

I have had this bulb replacement exercise on the drawing board for a while, mostly put off by the restricted space to get my paws in & out the cavity and remove/replace the bulbs. I have a model 06. Changing the main H4 bulb is not "that" difficult if you do it from underneath going up via the front wheel arch. There is way more handroom doing that way and the only drawback is that you work blind, but get the bulb in, the spring and the rubber pad and you are done after hooking up the whire. Now, changing those small ones.. haven't figured that one out yet.
I did try to access from the bottom as others on RUclips have shown, but that didn't work for me. I still think you will need to pull the dash to access the peanut bulbs anyway, but if you managed some other way, please post how you did it, I'm sure other will be interested as well. In the UK we have 60/55W H4 as standard. But, if a bulb blows, it is always the left bulb, always, always! In 100,000 miles on two ST1300's I have changed the left bulb 4 or 5 times, but never the right bulb. I put my hand up from underneath to get the bulb out and replaced.
It's ridiculous that it should be that difficult to change a headlight bulb on the ST1300! Also I saw your comment about the GPI (gear position indicator). Honda really blew it with that, imo. There's a little 'notch' on the speedo display where it would have fit perfectly from the factory! Thank you for the video!
I really want to go LED on headlight and peanut bulb , plus instrument cluster is pretty dimmed, how hard will be to remove the headlight assembly and instrument cluster ? Couldn’t find any videos ….
plenty of good glass bulbs on the market i tried them from phillips to osram but novsight leds blow them all away with a perfect cutoff. the plate unlocks from the bulb and you mount the plate then the rubber boot then put the bulb thriugh push hard twist and lock. The bulbs are easy enough from underneath but the holder is hard to squeeze but if you dont squeeze you have next to no chance in geting the holders off. novsight are around 22 quid on amazon

Did pull the dash on my 06 to change side light bulbs. DONT pull the rubber bulb holders out by the wire cos you risk the wire and bulb terminal being moved or bent. I placed a i smear of Vaseline around the rubber holder to easy refitting the holder and for when next removing them.
Well? You may want to watch the video again...LOL, Yes I did replace the factory bulbs. The LED bulbs are round 60000k-70000k and they will make any filament bulb, even PIAA bulbs look a bit yellow is in comparison. But as I showed in the video, I had one factory bulb and one PIAA bulb in to show the difference, I ride a lot in the dark, so the PIAA bulbs are a great upgrade. Cheers

I did it the same way. Took me 5 minutes.

While I was working on my bike yesterday, my brother just reached up inside from the front without removing anything at all and changed the bulb.

Make sure the led bulbs are directional beam as you will fail mot without it..I failed

in my case , by bending the tabs back flush with the bottom just straight back is better stbility for road
I thought of that too, but flatting the large tab, it holds just as well, never notice any jiggling on our bumpy west coast roads. Cheers

still looking for led headlights for my ST1300. I used these Phillips lights but they burned out pretty fast.
