We have a former Hospitala estate is Pembrokeshire, the Slebech estate, it's on the most beautiful land and the church of St John still stands but is in ruins, I've heard there are Templar graves there, I intend to find them
@@heathfairbairn2460 cool ive been to England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. I would like too go back to Edinburgh and drive south where my family names land is. We are Border Reavers. Scott very popular name in Great Britain. I live in Arizona.
What a nice documentary but I was incredibly surprised that the Order of Malta (the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta), the most prominent of the Hospitaller orders, was not mentioned at the end, instead choosing to only mention the Hospitallers Protestant offshoot, the Order of St John. I assume it’s because the documentary was geared toward UK viewers, but I still was expecting a more thorough picture of what the Hospitallers looked like today from so many historians.
Unlike the templars, the hosplitlars existed long before the crusades especially in Scotland. Almafi and Scotland have always had close links inckuding the bones of saint Andrew.
Of the three major factions the Hospitallers are my favorite.Never understood why.Maybe it's cause they was one of the last factions to leave the holy land and there battle of Malta was genius.
That theory about sharpening swords by dragging the edge down a stone wall is the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. The guy doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.
Actually that will “sharpen” a sword.. have you ever fought with one? I can explain- when swords clash they Knick and dent each other- rubbing out the dents to polish them back into the blade is better than not- even a rough soft surface like limestone will remove burrs and restore shape and sharpness
When rhe pope and king of France outlawed the Templers they were welcomed in Scotland 🏴 and fought aginst the Norman French English at Bannock Burn in 1314AD❤
No mention of the next 500 years after Rhodes. The nights battled the Ottermans and saved Europe whilst Europe was busy fighting itself. Not much has changed there then 😂
Rather take the Hospitallers any day than those overrated Templars. They were better in every way - better outfits, more sensible in that they weren’t as rash as the Templars, and as humane as they were bad-assed
My favorite of all the other Orders, most humble, combat medics, and I love their uniforms

@@Blue_Bayou_Hix yes that too! They raided Greek and Turkish ships passing by. The Greeks complained to the Pope about it!
St John’s Ambulance has been in Australia forever in my memory also.
Comes from the same thing they're also known as knights of St john
@ that’s right
It was interesting to learn about two groups of knights! I never knew there about the Knights of Lazarus.

Watching now- but a history of hospitallers is incomplete without Malta..

What reason they did not mention Malta is a mystery .The key to the whole documentary .

Wonderful quote
Well done thanks for sharing
Such a cool series i learned alot about all 3 orders
The fist combat medic..😇🤘🤘
The video mentions Hansen's Disease is incurable. But it's referred to as absolutely curable. Unless they were just saying it was incurable back then.
They literally mention that it’s easily cured today right after having talked about it having no cures at the time!
That's what they were saying. If it wasn't curable, you'd see it all the time.
