- Castles were bastions of power. Yet, what was life like behind their walls? Our documentary follows their development from simple wooden fortifications to the most elaborate strongholds and residences. It takes us into their bed chambers as well as into their latrines, into their kitchens and stables. Archaeologists and historians dispel many of the myths and legends, that surround them even today.

This have to be one of the most honest, informative and balanced documentaries about castles i have ever seen. And i have seen A LOTT.
A wonderful portrait of medieval Life around the power central point:the Castle, really awesome.
I loved the Italian architects who had studied the unusual apertures & design of a certain Italian castle-discovering it to have been Romanesque in its use of engineering (utilizing gravity & unbelievable skill to construct pipes throughout the castle which transported water to every room )….
My IDEAL medieval castle : combining form, function AND comfort ❤
Fabulous. Loved the pieces of film ? play ? that demonstrated the life. Probably a bit romanticized, but absolutely wonderful.
I have been to so many castles. I love each one.
I am Castilian, the country of the castles..in the reconquest, the whole Spain!
I absolutely loved this documentary! Thank you! Now I really NEED to go to Europe to claim a castle lol!
Interesting and well constructed documentary.
Ideally it would have been nice to have seen a wider - stylistically and geographically - selection of examples.
The documentary is about the lives lived within the castles, as mentioned in the title.
Dope ass b-roll
Have some castles been built which had low ceilings (& curtains?) to keep heat down where it's needed?
Is the castle that was suppose to be finished last year finished ?
Does anyone know who the narrator is? It's driving me crazy trying to place his voice!
❤❤

Bathroom? In the Middle Ages castles? Usually there was a tub brought to the Lord’s bedroom
Castles are an offensive tool and a projection of power.
Maybe later ones but if you watched the documentary you would learn that in their early days they were very necessary for safety
They’re symbols of wealth, which is basically synonymous with power. But by definition, castles are defensive structures. NOT offensive. Offense literally means to attack. Castles do not walk about and attack. They’re a place of retreat and safety. Strongholds of feudal lords. But definitely not offensive.
