10 years ago I spent an extremely pleasant, remote and tranquil night in my Transit van parked exactly where Mr Weirdo took his pictures. Hard to believe that until 1968 this gorgeous spot was a site of huge industrial activity. With underground workings stretching out beneath the sea it had been the biggest mine for highly-valuable hematite ore in the world, with exports across the world. beneath the huge lagoon inside the sea wall lie the collapsed tunnels where the ore was dug out of the ground.
Hi Chris, that site was incredible I've since watch a lot about it on RUclips. Incredible engineering!!! I too hope to ha e a good night's sleep there soon
What a lovely day you and Amika had.She is so full of energy and having the best time.It is a pity that man had nothing better to do.What a sado.Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.Best wishes to you both.Lorna😄 .
Hi Christine, thanks for the kind words about Amika 🙌 Glad you liked the video, plenty more of you are enjoying them. Wish you a lovely weekend ahead, Gary
He was definitely reporting your van when he got home no reason to stop take pictures if he was interested in a camper he can look on Internet there's plenty forsale glad you and your daughter had a great time there looks like a nice spot
On a recent holiday to Wales ( staying in a cottage) the gf and l lost count of the number of vans huddled together on the sides of roads and lanes. We even started shouting’VanLife’ every time we saw one but got bored it was so many. My point is that in all those vans- especially given people without previous experience of wild camping and walking have taken it up thanks to the crazy travel restrictions etc over the past two years, there will be some who are a royal pain in the arse to locals and other vanLifers . Maybe this guy was a victim of one of those? Sadly it’s always been the way, small percentage ruin it for the responsible majority- l mean there’s caravan rage on family sites these days, people have got so wound up with life! Wishing you all the best and hope you have much more good memories than bad in the future! 👍
Sadly that's always the way. I tend to try and avoid people for these very reasons. We have a blast together and never really have any issues, anything suspect, we just move on 😊
Fascinating find. Wonder what that chap was up to, it would have played on my mind, lucky you spotted him - some people do the strangest things. Looks like you two had an amazing time - All the best, David & Rachel 👍
It did play on my mind, I knew I was allowed there but wanted to know why he was taking photos of my private vehicle. Unusual behaviour. It was a good day thanks, lots of exploring no tourist areas, always good fun that is. Are you both planning any campervan shows over the next few months? There's a few at Stratford upon Avon...
@@TravelwithGaryandAmikaGreat to explore the non tourist areas. my aunt used to live at Seaton near Workington so got to see some of the area and used to like the visitor centre at Sellafield when I was younger (not sure if it’s still open). We’re off to Scotland in a couple of weeks and starting to plan out the second half. Was contemplating going to the Whitby traction engine rally in August - not van focussed but camping on site and great to explore Whitby too. Will be having a look for some others, also pondering on going to the Lincoln season finale Motorhome and Campervan show.
I'd guess at the cyclist wanting to complain about the van being in his way. Just another 'nosy parker' than society has lots more of int he last couple of years.
Very strange mate. Anyway i hope you are both enjoying your adventures. I show my 8 year old son your videos asked if he wants to hit the road with dad 😁
I live in Whitehaven about 1hr away north of millom, my mum lives there and I know millom well and you were not doing anything wrong with where you parked, perhaps this person thought your van was dumped. The park you visited at Haverigg is very close to the butterflowers Holiday camp site where they have an indoor pool that you can use without camping there and it's very cheap, I used to take my 3 kids there. If you ever want to visit Whitehaven it's very nice place and I could show you around. Nice footage from the drone.
Hi Andrew. Sorry I somehow missed the message... Thanks for backing that up, the guy actually saw is having lunch in the van earlier on and came back, really odd... Anti camper can I think. That pool sounds great, we will check that out next time. And Whitehaven again!!
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika Let me know when you're local to me and I will gladly show you around, still plenty I've not seen myself since I moved here in 2020.
Hi Gary, I live in Millom but I'm originally from the South East of England. You were parked on Hodbarrow RSPB nature reserve. I walk my dog on their most days. Sadly, vans and tourists get the blame for most things but often locals ignore the bleeding obvious in that kids and antisocial tossers cause most of the trouble around there. Millom, at one time, had one of the largest mining and iron industry in the world. The first part of your video shows what I locally known as 'the slaggy'. That whole area is what came out of the ground and furnaces. Try to find some old photos. I still find it hard to believe that there was once such a massive industry, levelled in the late 1960s. ☹️
Hi there, thanks for the great comment. Ihe since seen photos of the area, the buildings towered over the town and the beautiful stream trains littered the area too. Hard to believe as you say, now just a waste land. But at least nature is taking over. Vans always get the blame, I'd love to see a single bit of evidence that a campervan littered. It's absolutely against our nature. I've been to two campervan shows over the last 2 weeks and both the airfield and the racecourse were left IMMACULATE. very few communities have such a reputation, small minded people just like to blame others. I've witnessed many time locals littering in car parks and driving off, later to find out we get the blame. It's how it is, I know my morals are right. If you see me up there please say hello, it's likely we will be back 😊
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika I have a VW T25 that I drive around the Lake District. Its the best way to travel. Sadly, the price of fuel is making it hard to justify using it more often. Now that I live here, every day is a holiday 😁
Honestly some people in Millom need to mind their own business. It is a very nosy town where you get posted on facebook for something totally obscene and ridiculed for it. It’s a horrible toxic town.
That's the sort of sad attitude some folks have on vans here in the UK unfortunately. I know some folk that don't even like it when their neighbours park there own campers on their own drives.
Just watched the vid Gary (love your channel by the way) I'm wondering if Mr Nosey was a well meaning guy looking to protect the local rare bird nesting...you mention later in the vid? I've heard of people who take eggs of rare birds....just thinking out loud here....Anyway the Mrs and I really enjoy your adventures with Amika....also i note you are ex-military, thank you for your service.
Hi mate. Thanks for the kind words, appreciated. The birds are in another place actually, but yeah maybe. I personally think that he didn'tike me being there. Which is a shame as the RSPB clearly state you are allowed there and they own the land. Wish I'd caught him to embarrass him 😂
not necessarily, hes riding through there on a bike,if people who are mindful about nature and know what they're doing, theres no problem.thesecare the type of busy bodies I encounter on my bikes and wild camps. I just do my best to be civil make it known that I'm clued up on aspects of responsibility and this land is ours as long as we respect it. in my opinion its control.
I stayed on the upper costal road at Millom in March of this year. I wonder if it was the same bloke that took a photo of my van. I had a visit off the police. They just asked if I could move my van a little further from the pathway. They were really nice and said they had no problem with me staying there. Later in the day I was walking back to my van and the same chap was there again. I approached him and had a conversation. Recounted my conversation with the police. He was a little taken aback. But I think he was concerned about fly tipping and waste disposal. It was sadly a problem. I had passed a couple of piles of household tipping. Suites. Microwave etc. I did point out that it was probably locals doing the tipping. No-one would drive so far to tip such rubbish. Anyway he seemed happy enough after our talk. Just enjoy you time with your daughter. I wouldn't worry about people like this. They are just probably concerned about the area. 🤗💗🙏
I've taken photos of number plates as I live in a rural area and fly tipping has become a big issue in the last two years. We've had stuff dumped and it's not always locals. Issue is that people pay someone to take the rubbish away and they don't check that the person doing the removal is licensed. I now tend to take a photo of the number plate, then if anything happens I would pass the details onto either the council or forestry commission. But otherwise it gets deleted. So you probably think I am a Karen 😅
Sometimes it's not the vehicle they are photographing it's your number plate. I covered mine over with cloths once in a lay by and thought that if someone wanted to log my number then they would have to remove the cloth or ask me details. In either case you,ll find out why they want it.
Can I ask where yr music is from...generally love the genre but don't know what to search for😁 First track especially. Just happened upon your channel, love it! What a wonderful bond you both have...dads and daughters 😍. All the best on your journeys. Subscribed x
Hi Fiona, thanks for the kind words and feedback about the channel. The first song is called old pen by Cody Francis. I get my music from a few places but mostly epidemic sound ☺️ Have a great Christmas. Gary x
Gary, there are always jobsworths or nosey trouble makers who thing because you are not parked in a car park you are up to no good. Every where you go nowadays people are opposed to people in vans and wild camping in general. We all know wild camping is illegal in England but if you leave no trace what's the problem??, but as I was once a long distance lorry driver there was no problem with vehicles parking in laybys and the HGV scumbags leaving litter and other unmentionables in the hedges . It drove me mad as I hate litter. Keep safe you two.
I was curious so looked up the area on OS Maps. The path you were parked on appears to be classed as a "Byway open to all traffic", and strangely only that side of the path, so technically you were parked in the middle of the road! But there's obviously plenty of room to go round, and it's not exactly the M6 in rush hour, so he was obviously just one of those types 🤣 He was probably filming the drone because of the birds, but the area isn't restricted for drones. Ho hum. Loving watching you two on your travels 👍
We live in Millom and technically it's not in the Lake District. The "road" you were parked up on isn't really a road. It's not fit to be, and has started to suffer from collapse. It's on top of the sea wall. There has been an influx of campers and day vans appearing along the route and the amount of rubbish that has been left has been awful. As your title suggests, it is part of a nature reserve. The part where you go to seascape the on screen title is wrong, it has you in stirling.
It is a road, and it's still publicly accessible therefore anyone with any vehicle is allowed there. I didn't see any rubbish at all, if I did I would have collected it up and binned it (usual practice for me).
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika hi Gary and Amika many thanks for the details yes I'm loving going through all your videos strange situation with cyclist dont let it bother you . I really look forward to hearing from you both on your adventures take care 😁
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika Around about the 9 minute mark, there's a gate with a sign on it and you look over to talk about the birds nesting etc. and you can't go in there. That's what is happening all over the place. Putting people off going into those spaces because of 'rewilding' projects or 'save the bug' (whatever specieis happens to be endangered at the time). There was a time when I used to not be able to walk my dog in fields, because the council had put special entry barriers on the gates, so only those with special disability cards could go into them. The rambling clubs soon made them stop that.
I live in Norfolk where fly tipping is a big problem so if I think a vans parked suspiciously I take a picture on my phone as evidence, if nothing is dumped I delete. Been some lovely spots ruined by fly tipper's.
Didnt watch all of it , only the photographer at the start but I did a very similar thing in our park as there was a lovely van parked up, very similar to ours with the same unusual top and I took a photo to show the hubs. Maybe this chap was wanting to do a similar thing, you know? style of windows or whatever?
It looks to me, that he was complaining about your van being left fully on the road track and not parked to the side to allow others to pass easily, I may be wrong though ?
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika It's simple. You're on the edge if a nature reserve that has problems with fly tippers. Builders rubbish, household rubbish and take away rubbish. He will pass the same spot later. If there's a load of rubbish tipped, the police will have your plate. It's about building a case. He is probably a neighbourhood watch member or warden looking out for repeat offenders.
@@hedgerowsandzeros that's one way of keeping fit and active. He knew we were not fly tipping, he saw us eariler with our door open having lunch 💁♂️ Also, fly tippers don't park up for 2 hours, they are in and out 😂 Pretty sure he is just anti campervan, which when parked exactly where the RSPB state on the Hodbarrow website, isn't going to get him very far.
2 hours?..Some campervans are owned by dossers. They park up overnight and leave their rubbish or empty their toilet cassette. You've done the NC500 right? It's a big problem. Good luck !
@@hedgerowsandzeros it happens yes, however I've never seen a single camper do that, I've seen more park up and tidy up. Just been to two camper festivals and both had no one (employee) litter picking and were left immaculately. Can't say that about many communities. Problem isnt a group, its individuals over all types. For examples fly tippers. Makes no odds to me, I still travel, park up, tidy up if needed and leave no trace, and will keep doing it 👍
It is illegal to drive a motor vehicle on the Iron Works nature reserve. It's clearly signed. The track is for the few authorised vehicles (the guys who own the boats for example). Just because there is a track you can get a van down doesn't mean that it's legal to drive there.
Incorrect. It's a public byway which is open to all traffic, by law. This is clearly stated on all maps and on the RSPB website, who own the land 👍 Their statement reads: The byway open to all traffic also links the car park with the sea wall The land owners invite people like me to use the road 👍 www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/hodbarrow/accessibility/ Signs erected by anyone but the land owner are worth nothing
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika It's odd that I've replied to this comment several times but the comments just disappear . . . Anyway, for the last time, the Ironworks LNR is not the same place as Hodbarrow. The RSPB reserve is not on the Ironworks (unlike your van . . .). You had no right to drive on the Ironworks LNR. End off.
Hey u two Another pucker video, Amika where do u get all your energy from you amaze me 💜 I wouldn't worry about the weirdo bloke just trying to promote himself, some people have nothing better to do that spoil the sunshine ☀ Have fun 😀

I've had people taking photos of my car saying I'm not allowed to camp there as my car was fall of camping stuff. Even though I was at a paid camp site, you just wind them up and say I'll camp where I like and drive off. Do this as leaving as they will probably vandalize your car as they are that delusional.
Haha, it's madness isn't it. I've just watched VISIT LAKE DISTRICTS RUclips channel which shows 2 cars where I was parked, and they are flying a drone there.
I wish people would stop name calling that man maybe he’s not a sad individual in fact if he was he would prop be a home not riding a bike ! For the record when I was saving up for my van I took loads of pics of random peoples vans for inspiration and ideas !! Unless he’s come to you directly moaning about something mind your own business he’s done nothing wrong !!
Its probably because you were parked smack bang on the natural England's coastal pathway, and also this is a s s s i , R S P B nature reserve sight where all camping ,overnight parking and fires are banned, ,and if I'm not mistaken all vehicles who are potentially going to camp or park overnight are photographed for there registration number.
Hi Andrew, thanks for this, this is useful information which I hoped to gain from the gentleman taking the photographs. Thankfully I'm allowed to park there as stated on the RSPB website, visit Cumbria website and also under the road traffic act as its a public byway. Pretty sure there is no law agaisnt camping there, however it's a stupid thing to do in a nature reserve, its also private land so only trespass applies, I had no intention of camping there, we just drove through there for a quick brew and for my daughter to play in the sand. By chance the next day I happened to catch the police during a patrol who told me I have every right to drive and park there, which is reassuring for me and anyone else who wishes to visit the area
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika The exact place you were parked is the new natural England coastal pathway, where its sign posted both ends of the seawall, the road across the seawall is the actual byway, where you are allowed to park,,,,but not over night,,,your not allowed to park overnight or camp or light any fires, the rspb have just put up more signs over the last few weeks, but have been vandalized again ,there are plans to put up more permanent signs,,,because of being a SSSi sight protected by government legislation, the local police are fully aware of people leaving rubbish, human waste, lighting fires, chopping trees down, mattresses, settees in the past, beautiful site ,,campers must respect this site to keep it beautiful.
It's a pity these drones didn't have speakers on them you could have flown it right up to him and said 'exterminate exterminate ' he'd have been off like a shot!! 😆 naughty but nice.
Seascape was built up in Victorian times as a holiday destination and the plant you said was a power plant wasn’t, watch RUclips documentary on it , it will reveal the purpose of the plant !
What do you expect from some cyclists, think they are the only ones allowed anywhere. My right of way. Apart from him, what a lovely video, wonderful time chilling out in a nice location, can't beat it. All the best both, keep up the wonderful adventures 👏
Be very careful of using stereotypes like Clarkson does. I am a racing cyclist with 10 bikes of various types, I also have a 600 cc 100 bhp motorbike, 3 cars and a camper van. There are good and bad in all walks of life my friend.
I find biking lot to be quite strange folks with generally disgusting language and attitudes. We are absolutely sick and tired of their presence in the Peak District. This isn’t just one or two, 90% including the older ones are absolutely deranged; we need cameras setting up to record their attitudes to motorists and the general public, then there may well be a change. They like robots in our countryside trying to control us. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Yes, I live in the peak district and they are so arrogant, riding four side by side taking up the whole road when people in cars and buses are trying to get to work.
@@LaPOLEA which is illegal. Cyclists seem to thing 2 abreast is lawful at all times, yet they don't read the Highway code which states only when it's safe to do so, not on narrow lanes, not on bends, and not when busy. Most of this gets ignored by them which causes driver frustration and even more risk to them cycling.
🚴 🔔 🔚. (In the voice of forest gump…. That’s all I have to say about that) Tell me you found Riva Gelato at the Campsite on the other side of the RSPB place at Millom… had the biggest icecream ever from that place (can personally recommend the Biscoff 😋) after a nice walk round the reserve. Millom isn’t the nicest place but this little spot is ideal for making your own entertainment. Was another cracker Gary. Penny for Amika’s thoughts on the bench ☺️. Run out of videos now, booooo.
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika The question you have to ask is, why on earth he was riding down the track that's full of pot holes on his own, with a camera wrapped in a plastic bag? Maybe he's got a screw loose. That's certainly not the actions of a normal person.
@@ewenb1733 Probably... But before I went there I checked the RSPB website and there is a circular byway which means anyone can use it. Tomorrow's video confirms that 😊
The problem is "van lifers" and "wild campers" or rather the hooligan element of both are leaving rubbish, human excrement, being a fire hazard, and frankly an (expletive deleted,) nuisance in many areas of Britain now, (also when challenged being violent to the point of assaulting members of the public, rangers, and even police officers, people for their own safety are photographing vehicle numbers.) In Cornwall they have no respect for the environment SSSIs or the people who live here. My wife and I do wild camping BUT with the landowners permissions, use bog in a bags, and leave nothing behind when we leave but the imprint of the tent on the grass.
I wasn't filming him, I was filing the scenery and my van, he happened to slam his breaks on and act very suspiciously, I initially though he was going to break in. Like everyone, he's very welcome to take photos of my van, people do it all the time, but wouldn't you agree that having little girl in the van who he saw earlier was concerning, certainly concerned me.
Also, with Madeline McCann tragedy a few years back, sometimes a busybody is a good thing to be aware of! He wasn't to know why you were down there/what you were up to! No harm done really.
Not sure how travelling about with my daughter is comparable to Madaline McCann. As I've said before, no issues at all with him taking photos, just don't get why he didn't speak to me when he saw us the first time having lunch in the van.
You’ve got no chance of trading your daughter in.. I’ve been trying to get rid of mine for years would have traded her for a camel, block of cheese anything still stuck with her 😂😂.. I wouldn’t worry about the guy on the bike there’s whopper’s everywhere you go, have fun with your daughter mate..
I hope you don't mind what I'm about to write, I'm just giving an honest point of view. Some people staying in vans have unfortunately been letting others down by going to the toilet in farmers fields, emptying toilets in hedgerows, filling multiple public bins thus allowing no room whatsoever for people on foot to get rid of their litter. Maybe vanlife people should have a word with one another because campervans, etc don't really want to have a bad name because others act a little inconsiderately towards others. I mean if you're flying a drown above members of the public you can't really complain if one of them is taking photos. I mean you've put one of them here on RUclips! Some people with campervans are getting really annoyed that their long reputation going back decades is being trashed in a matter of 2/3 years by others who all of a sudden are vanlife people! Maybe the person with the camera is one of them or a local who has witnessed some of the things mentioned!
What your writing I have witnessed too and and sadly it's not the #vanlife as you call it community, its people who are hiring vans who have no clue. I've just been to 2 campervan festivals which when closed were left in an absolutely immaculate state, one being an airfield, I didn't even see anyone litter picking over 5 days due to the fact vanlifers are tidy. The effect lockdown has had has affected all sorts of communities and doesn't reflect the majority. Its just dead easy to point the finger. I often stay in the peaks, the car park I arrive at is usually clean at 8pm, then by 8am its filthy, why, kids turn up and blast music and little, then when we wake up and drive off it looks like we have done it. I always have a tidy up, and I know my morals are right. But I'm absolutely sure that's what he was taking photos for, and I don't blame him of that's the case, still would have been nice to have a chat with him 😊
To be fair, the first thing I thought was that a stolen/abandoned van was left there,he was taking photos for police,to help! I probably would have done same as I am cyclist who encounter weird things! So maybe don't jump to conclusions/stories if you can't find out! Cheers.
Could say some strong language about people on bikes but a won’t for the sake of your wee one maybe he’s a van and drone spotter you never no those cyclists are all weirdo’s anyway fecking way they dress and those shades even when it’s dull a weird breed brill vid mate
Brilliant 😂 Pretty sure just anti campervan, his loss, ill be back there again soon as my daughter loves it there 😁 Hope you had a good long weekend matey!!
Chill out! perhaps he liked your van, its no big deal, people get might paranoid about you flying a drone so close to a nature resurve and taking pictures, luckily most people just ignore and carry one.
Why?? Its a nature reserve they are the sort of places people do fly drones to capture the beautiful nature!! And I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate people going round taking pictures of his property.
It is UK I would guess he was looking for something to report you for that seems to be the way of many in our culture, try not to enjoy life to much its just not the done thing.
I believe your 'rant' was misplaced. If it was really about overnight stays then the photo would have been taken later otherwise how do you distinguish between short stay and overnight stay. Maybe, just maybe he was taking your details. Why? In case you left a mess/fly tipping. I only saw one picture taken and then he seemed to be on his way until heard your drone. Remember your previous video where the waste was left by persons unknown. No culprit equals no action.
public photography is not a crime. I dont see what the cyclist did that was wrong? you are in public he took a picture as you were doing with the drone. He didnt touch or damage your van. I dont know if you are on a byway open to all trafic or not but thats up to you. What am I missing here?
No one mentioned a crime or lack of permission. People take photos of me and my van all tue time. You're missing what we all are here, the answer to why he did it, I found it bizzare probably as bizzare as taking a photo and a drone appearing over your head within seconds 😂... He could have had a conversation with me earlier. As you say no crime, but clearly he's upset about something 😁
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika :) Does it matter why he wanted to take a picture? If he wants to then he can. Nothing wrong in taking a picture in public nor is flying a drone or having the freedom to park up and camp out or do many things we all enjoy and are allowed to do. Why do you fly a drone? or do anything? doesn't matter to anyone else why provided its lawful. We all must try to protect our freedoms even if we may find it uncomfortable or dont know why - if its illegal then thats another thing. I love wild camping/climbing etc - I love photograph, I may do things I shouldnt but thats on my head. - perhaps he was concerned you were on a foot path with a vehicle rather than a b.o.a.t.? or a nefarious purpose. (which other posters have suggested may have been his "why") I dont know. As mentioned upto you and on your head if you were legally meant to be there or not - equally its upto the cyclist to take a picture if he thought you had broken the law and wanted to report it. I dont know. What he did do was absolutely lawful, did not damage your van or interferer with you in any way which is how it should be. If he wants to tell tails and report that then that down to him. Not something many of us would get worried over. I dont see why you would get worried over as to "why" he took a picture ? Why do you think he took a picture? Love the exploring/van my young daughter and I go rock climbing in Spain and Italy - adventures are the key to life. :)
@@blimeythatwasclose Honestly, I've not give it that much thought. It's human nature to wonder why people do things, nothing more to it than that. I fly my drone in a remote area, he sees a van in a remote area, we are both wondering why, and we both left that day with unanswered questions :) I couldn't care less who takes photos of my van, it happens every week, i'll be back there in a few weeks and he and anyone else are welcome to take more.
I'm not sure I agree with either the chap taking the images of the van nor the van owner making this video about it from his drone footage. I can see both sides of it however. You are both as bad as each other in many ways by simply recording digital images and not interacting as responsible human beings. You cant stop a member of the public recording and reporting something that looks suspicious or hazardous to the Police no warning an unsuspecting visitor of hazards. We are all encouraged to behave responsibly like this. You cant stop people with stealth camper vans (this was a bit suspicious as it is a disguised van and not a true and honest camper) exploring the countryside. and parking somewhere that is safe and responsible. The countryside is for everyone, or at least it should be! I feel that a simple open and honest human conversation would have cleared this up a lot quicker. Neither of these individuals actually intended to do anything wrong, I believe. I live nearby and there are indeed risks that the van owner wasn't aware of. So yes, he should be protecting his daughter from these risks as well. The most dangerous hazards are those you are unaware of. Its funny though. Why make such a huge fuss on social media about this when a simple human conversation could have seen these two become friends? It makes you start to wonder where all this digital technology is leading us.
Also it's not a disguised camper. It has camper van side windows. A visible roof vent. Visual solar panels. Visable 5g antenna. Off road tyres. A stealth camper is one that looks like a builders van 👍
He is a typical cyclist and is upset your van in is the road he obviously thinks only belongs to him. He will obviously be taking the picture so he can try and get you busted by the local council. Typical cyclist mate
10 years ago I spent an extremely pleasant, remote and tranquil night in my Transit van parked exactly where Mr Weirdo took his pictures.

@@andrewsharpe8804 will do mate. Sounds good 👍👍
Hi Gary, I live in Millom but I'm originally from the South East of England.

This guy saw us earlier having our lunch, it's clear he is anti campervan. Unfortunately for him I'm allowed there so he won't get very far

Gary, there are always jobsworths or nosey trouble makers who thing because you are not parked in a car park you are up to no good. Every where you go nowadays people are opposed to people in vans and wild camping in general. We all know wild camping is illegal in England but if you leave no trace what's the problem??, but as I was once a long distance lorry driver there was no problem with vehicles parking in laybys and the HGV scumbags leaving litter and other unmentionables in the hedges . It drove me mad as I hate litter. Keep safe you two.
The most amazing thing is, this land belongs to the RSPB, and their website says you can drive to and park there 😁
I was curious so looked up the area on OS Maps.
Definitely odd behaviour, possibly innocent but I’d say not. Great video 😊👍👍
Thanks mate, yeah who knows 💁♂️
Maybe the crabs renewed their shells, like spiders change theirs. Great video again and good to see your subscribers are climbing still. X
Yes I think you're right 👍👍
They do
We live in Millom and technically it's not in the Lake District.
Ordnance Survey appears to show it as a Byway open to all traffic.

It looks to me, that he was complaining about your van being left fully on the road track and not parked to the side to allow others to pass easily, I may be wrong though ?
I was pulled off the road and on the grass, as shown on tourist information
It's prone to fly tipping down there. Cars, vans, trailers. 👍
Not sure how taking photos of a campervan is going to achieve much for him
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika It's simple. You're on the edge if a nature reserve that has problems with fly tippers. Builders rubbish, household rubbish and take away rubbish. He will pass the same spot later. If there's a load of rubbish tipped, the police will have your plate. It's about building a case.
This is clearly stated on all maps and on the RSPB website, who own the land 👍
Their statement reads:
The byway open to all traffic also links the car park with the sea wall
The land owners invite people like me to use the road 👍

The problem is "van lifers" and "wild campers" or rather the hooligan element of both are leaving rubbish, human excrement, being a fire hazard, and frankly an (expletive deleted,) nuisance in many areas of Britain now, (also when challenged being violent to the point of assaulting members of the public, rangers, and even police officers, people for their own safety are photographing vehicle numbers.)
In Cornwall they have no respect for the environment SSSIs or the people who live here.
My wife and I do wild camping BUT with the landowners permissions, use bog in a bags, and leave nothing behind when we leave but the imprint of the tent on the grass.

But I'm absolutely sure that's what he was taking photos for, and I don't blame him of that's the case, still would have been nice to have a chat with him 😊
That was a very polite observation, But totally pointless, this man did everything by the book so please leave him alone!
@@franklowe2996 The person is allowed an opinion and their reply isn't in anyway as pointless as your reply is!
To be fair, the first thing I thought was that a stolen/abandoned van was left there,he was taking photos for police,to help! I probably would have done same as I am cyclist who encounter weird things! So maybe don't jump to conclusions/stories if you can't find out! Cheers.
So if you rode past earlier and saw us in it having lunch in it (as he did), you would think its stolen? I find that bizzare
Could say some strong language about people on bikes but a won’t for the sake of your wee one maybe he’s a van and drone spotter you never no those cyclists are all weirdo’s anyway fecking way they dress and those shades even when it’s dull a weird breed brill vid mate
Brilliant 😂
Pretty sure just anti campervan, his loss, ill be back there again soon as my daughter loves it there 😁
Hope you had a good long weekend matey!!
Chill out! perhaps he liked your van, its no big deal, people get might paranoid about you flying a drone so close to a nature resurve and taking pictures, luckily most people just ignore and carry one.
😎
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika much better lol 👌
Why?? Its a nature reserve they are the sort of places people do fly drones to capture the beautiful nature!! And I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate people going round taking pictures of his property.
@@LaPOLEA i think you better check the rules on the drone flying in national parks and the vast if not all nature reserves before you coment!
@@LaPOLEA people with nice cars and houses have pictures taken of then all the time, its quite within their rights to take them to
Mr bicycle karen.
Another one 😂
It is UK I would guess he was looking for something to report you for that seems to be the way of many in our culture, try not to enjoy life to much its just not the done thing.
😂😂😂😂 "goes back to being bland and boring... Fits in to up life*
So🤷♂️
💁♂️
I believe your 'rant' was misplaced. If it was really about overnight stays then the photo would have been taken later otherwise how do you distinguish between short stay and overnight stay. Maybe, just maybe he was taking your details. Why? In case you left a mess/fly tipping. I only saw one picture taken and then he seemed to be on his way until heard your drone. Remember your previous video where the waste was left by persons unknown. No culprit equals no action.
Rant?
Ever think you could be infecting your kid with paranoia ,whether justified or not💁♂️
😂
that's just s a aad
Strange I thought
Just another nosy Parker with nothing else better to do, probably didn't like you obstructing his bike lane.
😂😂😂😂
public photography is not a crime.
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika :)
Does it matter why he wanted to take a picture?
I fly my drone in a remote area, he sees a van in a remote area, we are both wondering why, and we both left that day with unanswered questions :)
I couldn't care less who takes photos of my van, it happens every week, i'll be back there in a few weeks and he and anyone else are welcome to take more.
Haha yeah. Unfortunately for him it's a right or way for all road users and a designated car park on rspbs website ❤️
