- The title pretty much says it all. Can you use a normal USB-C to USB-C or a USB-C to Lightning cable to play music straight from your iPhone or Android to your Sonos Era-speaker?

Hi, is it possible to play music (with an android phone) via a jack output using the usbc adapter of sonos?
Hi! As long as you use the line-in-adapter from Sonos you should be able to connect any device that can output sound via a normal 3.5 mm-audio-cable. So I´d say that´s definitely possible! // Chris
What happens if you connect via the USB C directly to a PC or a MAC. Is it possible to use the Era 100 as a desktop speaker ?
Hi! Unfortunately I do no longer have the speakers, otherwise I would definitely try! If I am to guess though, I would say that it will probably not work since the functionality seem to require Sonos own AUX-adapter. However you can definitely use that + the speaker to use it as a desktop speaker. Bear in mind though that the latency _might_ be quite large with would make voices and effects play out of sync. // Chris
Just so I’ve got this right….if I want to plug in my turntable to my Sonus 300, I need Sonus’ own jack to usb c adapter, because an aftermarket jack to usb won’t work??
Hi! As far as I´ve tested and been able to read, the only way to use the line-in-function is to use Sonos own USB-C to 3.5-mm-adapter. There seem to be people stating they have gotten it to work with other solutions, like turntables with USB-out straight into the USB-C-port on the Era-speakers. However I haven´t really found any "proof" of that it would work. // Chris
Thank you for the quick reply.
I’ve ordered the Sonos adapter. I’ll let you know how I get on.
@@rhydh5014 Sweet! Let's hope it works as expected! :-) // Chris
Thanks for the test, I assume I can connect any vinul player with that correct?
Hi! Thank you too! Yes, using the official USB-C to line-in adapter you can connect any amplified vinyl player to the speakers :-) // Chris
@@GetThereFaster thank you!
@@GetThereFaster
What other audio sources (beside vinylplayer)can be plugged into the usb-c of the Sonos Era?
Is a tv possible?
@@hansvancauwenbergh Technically any input that is a normal 3.5 mm plug should be able to be played through the speaker using the line-in-adapter. So a TV should work just fine. You will though definitely experience a lag in the sound compared to the picture on the TV since of the processing in the speaker. However if your TV let´s you compensate and adjust for sound being out of sync you most likely can correct it to match the speaker output. // Chris
that's the biggest fail for sonos...
now I am struggling to use any option to use line-in with no result...
and the joke is that Sonos line-in adapter is not available to buy :/
You are completely right. I don´t really know why the line-in-adapters are taking so long to get in stock. The speakers have been out for some time now and you´d think Sonos would have at least stocked up on some of them. Was trying to find any third party stores that sells them, but they seem to be sold out everywhere :-/ // Chris
@@GetThereFaster I was thinking more and came up with conlcusion that thereis just a ZERO sense to have type-c line as as you not able to use any type-c but sonos )))))
with such success they could create own type-X or something )
and instead of 1 cable to connect something through line-in you need 2 cables (sonos adapter + other cable) in 100% cases )
crazy
@@welsewool As far as I know the USB-C-port can also be used for (Sonos own...) network/3.5mm combo adapter ( www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-combo-adapter ). But other than that you are absolutely right that the usage areas of the USB-C-port feels extremely limited :-/
@@GetThereFaster the trick that Sonos adapter is unavailable )
so 0 chance to use wire connection at all
@@welsewool Yup, you´re completely right :-/ Fastes way right now seems to be to get the adapter with the network connection as well, that´s estimated to ship around 18th of June. But with 39 USD that´s double the price of the normal 3.5 adaptor. So not really an option if you ask me :-(
For me, its just a no sense... sonos fail totally with this usbC, i waiting this option since many time... finally i dont buy this speaker due of that, a stupid fail from sonos? WE ARE 2023 WTF wake up Sonos ! Its like the sonos ray with only optical in a product near 300$... a no sense again.
Yeah, I understand the money gain in dongles (oh, hi there Apple). But just equipping the speaker(s) with a 3.5 mm input would have been so much more user friendly. As for the Ray, that I do not understand either. Sure, include an optical option, but HDMI ARC is such a standard solution nowadays that it should be standard on all sounders. At least when in that price category. // Chris
Sonos is a junk. I bought beam2 + two era100. Returning them back to Costco. App is terrible. Sound cuts off, trch support is useless
Yeah the app can be quite sluggish at times actually. Sound should definitely not cut off though!
@GetThereFaster I wanted to use them predominantly as a stereo set up in a group with the Beam, not surround. This option is not supported by Sonos and was a total headache. Whatever, I realized that an old school amplifier with 8-16 Ohm speaks is more convenient. Using an app to adjust the volume is an overkill. They removed 3.5 mm and put this USB-C for what?))) To sell extra $25 connector? 😢
@@jask320 Yeah, unless the system exactly support what you want there usually are not work-arounds :-/ For the adapter I am pretty sure you are correct >_
